Lovely day with some sun.  Went to Hanningford Reservoir to the Essex Wildlife Trust centre.  Lots of children around with parents and grandparents having fun an learning a little about wildlife whilst wandering around the wind in the willows trail.  Highlight for us was Great Spotted Woodpecker.  Lowlight was finding a dead bird of prey, difficult to identify so took a snap and reported to Rangers.  Called in at RHS Hyde Hall, had a cuppa and brought some stuff.  Had a last wander around the farm.  Will walk into Burnham in an hour or so for our curry night date.😻

Think I know TDA can I have a gold ⭐️ please?

Spent  a  few  minutes  in  the  company  of  a  very  nice  man  in  Crewe  this  morning,  but  I  might  not  hold  to  that  view  when  he's  in  the  process  of  refurbishing  those  two,  fortunately  adjacent,  fillings  in  10  days  time  surprised.

Then  visited  Aged  Sister,  preparing,  as  women  insist  on  doing,  for  her  trip  to  her  eldest  son's  park  Home  in  N Wales  for   a  few  days.  Silly  girl  was  scampering  as  well  as  she  can,  with  dusters  etc  &  loading  washing 'n drying machines  like  billy-oh  !!  " Well  you  never  know  who'll  come  while  I'm  away  do  you "  But  she'll  have  the  only  keys  apart  from  her  daughter,  who's  visiting  family  in  Jo-burg  !!

Now  for  some  reason,  I've  got  the  urge  to  find  some  C.D.'s    by  Bobby  Darin  undecided,  so  I'm  off  to  my  C.D.  store  for  a  while  --  so  behave  please  &  play  nicely  innocent.

Are you sure you have got rid of the Japanese anemone Tammygirl? I keep thinking that I have eradicated ours and the blessed thing keeps coming back. It is very pretty but also an invasive thug! Glad you are feeling better. Have a nice time with Mr and Mrs Kj.

I went to the funeral of a very dear friend this morning. She was a very special person who dedicated her life to helping others. As well as a wonderful mother and granny she was an excellent community midwife all her working life and then volunteered at our local Sue Ryder hospice for 17 years after she retired. It is a testament to how many lives she touched that there were hundreds at her funeral.

Is it the white jap anemone? I have lots of that, and the pale pink as well. Try the darker pink double variety, doesn't seem so invasive. However, if anyone knows how to eradicate Acanthus, the broadleaf type, not the cut leaf, please let me know. Mine survived a blow torch! Blasted stuff!yell

Sounds awful - is it related to Japanese Knotweed?

We seem to have a problem with that in the south east.

Not related as far as I am aware. Knotweed is horrendous, this is just a pest in comparison, and rather pretty if kept under control....which is not easy!

Got home from work on time today so thought I'd check CT and this thread,  hadn't checked in yesterday as went out after work.

I've just read through all the pages, what a task! Had to have a break half way wink

The DNA  ancestry sounds really interesting,  may have to look into that.

Tammygirl : Pleased to hear you are feeling better now.

Bakers2 : Hope Arbuthnott has found a new home, but still comes back to visit, haven't seen a Hedgehog for a long time.

Huskydog : Sorry to read the news about your parents, all the best.

Oneputt: Hope the scan results are good, glad you've enjoyed your trip away.

Brue: Lovely picture, hope the DIY is progressing well.

Hope I've covered everything there was lots to read.laughing

My day hasn't been very interesting,  still no sunshine frown and muddy dog walks. Sad news at work, Father of 2 of the drivers (brothers) died suddenly last night from a heart attack. On a lighter note sign writer missed a number out of the company phone number when he did the sign writing on the new van, had left a gap where it should be though laughing

Lovely afternoon spent with Mr & Mrs Kj

Millie its the pink variety that I have, bought 1 plant about 15 years ago and been trying to get rid of it for about the last 10 years. It appears to have gone then wam! it pops up again under a bush or in the middle of another plant or group of bulbs. Not convinced I will have got it this time either but I will keep at it I like a challenge

Rain came on about lunchtime and has been going since then.

Cheers H&T much better now thanks.

Today no photo 😢. If you can post I'd be interested to see it.

A leylandii killed off my Japanese anemone. Started off as pale pink turned white 😲. Leylandii planted nearby and it gradualy went. Bit drastic though!

Glad you enjoyed your time with KjellNN  Tammygirl.

I may have said this before but when my Mum's first floor flat was sold one of the legal questions was "have you got Japanese Knotweed?" This raised a few smiles at the time. wink

OP, hope everything is good with the latest scan and results, enjoy your last day at the CL, we know how lovely it is down there.

Brue , I wish that we'd had that sort of temperature, it's been very wet here this morning and quite chilly with it.

Glad that you had a pleasant afternoon with Mr & Mrs Kj, and that you're both feeling much better.

B2 are you still going to put out food for Arbuthnot or will you just hope that he can manage on his own now?

H&T there seems to be the odd post that you've not responded to! I wonder why?wink

Just realised from your photo that this is one of the plants we have!  I can see now why we haven't been able to keep it under control!  laughing   We live very near the sea which makes some plants difficult to grow....no problem with this one though!  laughing

Cuckoo seen at Horsey Mill, Norfolk today. Wonder if the American Bittern will still be at Carlton Marshes when we get home.  If so I will take grandtwins and they can take a look through their little binoculars laughing

They are lovely. You can get quite a few varieties, ranging from pure white, through to almost plum purple, and all the colours come in single and double flowers. The darker ones seem much smaller, but the white (Honorine Jobert, I think) and the pale pink single flowers can sometimes grow to 6ft! I don't seem to have much trouble with my white one, but I am quite ruthless at pulling out suckers before they get too big.

Here's another variety, smaller flowers but double. Think it is called "Party Dress"

My Thursday shopping trips won't be the same!!!! I enjoy my cup of coffee and a scone or pastry before we start shopping. Be interesting to see what difference it makes to the cafe as sometimes it's difficult to get a table. Expect my free newspaper will be next on the hit list.
