It has been dull for most of the day, with low cloud and just the occasional glimpse of sunshine. We had to get some food in so headed to Holyhead. Stopped off at Penrhos Coastal Park and had a couple of walks, firstly along by Beddmanarch Bay to Gorsedd y Penrhyn headland along the Coastal Path and the through the old estate which is now a woodland, past what remains of the old gardens and follies.
ThIs is a view across the bay to Holyhead Mountain, shrouded in cloud with a Cruise liner docked alongside the Quay.
I spotted this photogenic gateway from the old house's gardens. (Well I thought it worth taking a photo of it!)

@DavidKlyne glad to hear from you and you are now home here’s hoping for some good progress.
Lovely warm sunny day here today I was up early and away out a cycle great views at that time in the morning. Daughter SIL and gdaughter headed home today so been a bit quiet for us and it’s strange seeing someone else on “their” pitch this afternoon. After relaxing around the van this morning we headed off to the Muckleborough collection just up the road what a great place not the cheapest to get in to but a great selection of old military vehicles and military equipment we paid an extra £3 to get a run round the site in an old army truck it was brilliant but a bit bumpy but the views were amazing out to sea and we saw some interesting military anti aircraft guns that were scattered around the site. A nice place and recommended to anyone in this area who is interested in this sort of thing. Came back to the van and cooked chops on the Cadac and sat out for a while before heading down to the club house for a quick drink. Not sure of the plan for tomorrow her will see what the weather is like.@Wherenext enjoy your few days away

It’s ended up a lovely warm day here, 26c, so we had an hour in pool, then retired indoors for home made burgers watching tour this evening. Birthday greetings to those with birthdays👍

We had a wonderful time last night. Celebrated 2 anniversaries (ours 55 years and son's 24). If you're ever up this way, hop over to Sedbergh
We were a table of seven and had the Tasting Menu - a wonderful set of dishes that I've no idea how someone could create them. I'm now stacking stuff in the hall ready to take away and gleefully ticking off thing on the list.

@DavidKlyne so glad to hear that you are home, take it easy and best wishes for a speedy continued recovery. @Goldie146 Congratulations. We are just 18 months behind you. @richardandros so lovely to hear of your little neighbour getting his new bike in time to enjoy it for the school holidays, how kind of you. To others, great to see all the photos of such interesting places.
We haven’t been doing too much while away as OH is struggling to walk with hip pain, probably caused by an op he had some years ago. He did go to the GP with it last year but they found something else and he was rushed in for a scan and the hip was forgotten about. He has finally agreed to go back re this problem. He doesn’t walk out much at home but is really noticing it here. I’m also now in the process of applying for a blue badge for him, I think it’s time.
We did go to the new Cotswold Outlet Centre at Tewksbury but didn’t think much of it really. Didn’t purchase anything. We did go to Moreton Garden Centre and the clothes sale was on so I got a few bits at half price, bargain on a lovely pair of sandals. Then yesterday I popped into M&S in Stratford and guess what.. another half price sale. Actually managed to get a few items in my size, half price. I felt like @Wherenext MIL 😊
Cousin and her OH came over in the week for the afternoon and then we went over to the clubhouse for a lovely meal. Conversation flows so easily whenever we see them.
It’s been grey low clouds a lot of the time here but a lovely sunny day yesterday, grey again today though.1 -
A couple of weeks ago I went to the nurse for a routine blood test. I asked if I could see a GP when the results came as I’m now on lots of medication and concerned the new tablets are causing problems with the existing medication. Especially my thyroid problems as, despite now having very little alcohol and no sweet things and eating very healthily I’m putting on weight. I’m also getting very tired. I’ve been taking these tablets for 30 years so knew there was something amiss. Shock, horror on her part, ‘I don’t think you can see a Dr for that! But maybe the practice pharmacist. Shock, horror again when I asked if I could see them actually in person, rather than a phone call. Anyway after some discussion I got an in person appointment for 3 weeks time. Today I’ve just received my blood results on ‘My Chart’ Just as I knew a few issues that need sorting, and also my thyroid results are off the scale! No wonder I’ve not been feeling right. Now we were discussing this with our good friends from Stratford, who were horrified about us having so many problems getting a GP appointment, they said that they ring and get an appointment on the day, usually seeing a GP of their choice. That only happened 30 years ago for us. It seems healthcare is really down to a lottery postcode. So I just
wondered how it is for others across the country.0 -
@DEBSC I've been on thyroxine for years too. I keep a note of my annual blood results. I need to 'run high' we had a new GP at our last surgery, she was great, trained endocrinologist. I learned so much from her. I can almost instantly tell when my levels are off kilter. Hair, nails, stress levels, weight. I hope you get it sorted.
We moved from your type of GP practice, it went downhill about 10 years ago and worse after to covid. Wed been wiyh them 40 ish years. To a fantastic practice who sort you hopefully on the day one!
I was very surprised that here TSH is only tested for if the lab thinks it's necessary. I'd have to pay to see private GP and for the blood test if I wanted the annual result. GP can't override!. Always a good one for discussion if you got the stock answer - 'it's within guidelines'. If it was high showed my body still looking for T4 and T3..... Fingers crossed at the moment, same dose for several.years 🤞.
Best wishes to your OH. My OH happy to sit and it shows now if he he tries to do 'normal things'. Of course talk of use it or lose it aren't received well 🤐

@DEBSC - Our GP appointments are hit and miss. You definitely need to fill in an e-consult form first which is assessed by a Triage nurse. Then you may be allocated an appointment according to how quickly they want to see you. I have had a same day appointment a few times in the last year but mostly it's a couple of weeks for non urgent stuff. I think they have a priority list of marker points. If you score high you get in quickly. Hope you get matters sorted quickly. You'd think with your recent history they'd prioritise your concerns.
Talking of being like my dearly beloved MiL, the ladies went into town yesterday to get a phone cover from the market. 2 hours later they reappeared. OH said her mother had gone into 5 different clothes shops, ranging from Off the chart expensive to cheap as chips but failed to find anything that tickled her fancy. I had to lie down, such was the shock.😱🤣
Tackled the Berberis this morning, obviously very carefully. It needed a haircut. Once you start that job you then find others.Mulberry tree needed a bit of a trim at the base as the local cat hiding under it for birds.
Enjoy your weekend folks.

We have a really good GP surgery. OH is well looked after with all his history, I prefer phone consultations for simple stuff (luckily I haven’t seen a Doc face to face for at least 3 years, but do get invited for regular blood tests, med reviews, etc….) They are brilliant with Mum, there for us if we need anything. Easy prescription ordering all online, sent to pharmacy next door. We have made sure we make the most of all the online stuff and links, it works well for us. That said, 🤞 other than OH’s ongoing Cancer monitoring, neither of us has any other issues…..yet🤔 OH has direct contact with a variety of Cancer clinics. Never know what he’s going to throw up on his scans🫣
Next event for us is York Opera House to see Martin Shaw in a Man For All Seasons, next week. Discounted tickets, thank you Yorkshire Post!

For GP appointments, we used to be able to get an emergency appointment on the day by ringing first thing then going down to wait at the suggested time. Appointments for non urgent things could be booked ahead.
Now, if we ring in time, we can get an on the day appointment, but can no longer book ahead, which is a bit annoying. Only the surgery can make appointments for future dates, apparently only available if they reckon they need to see you regularly.
So we now have a situation where, if you ring later in the day, even for something urgent, it is quite likely that you will be told to ring the following morning, while those who rang earlier but do not need to be seen urgently, have been given all the available appointments. This just does not make sense!
We also used to have a very good on line ordering system for repeat prescriptions for many years, but they changed something and we can no longer access it. We were told to re-register, but have so far not been able to do so, and we do not know why. So now we have to phone up to request items, which is not easy if you have several items to remember!

At our GP surgery we need to ring at 8.00am. We can press 1 on our keypad to hold our place in the.queue and eventually someone rings you back and decides who you should speak to/see later that day. It works well but we rarely see a GP it is usually a 'clinician' of some sort. I do have to say that when OH had a number of health scares a couple of years ago I rang the surgery later in the day and they sent someone to the house. They were very good. Some surgeries here are good and some are abismal.
I went to grand—daughter's Baby Shower this afternoon. The first time I have been to one of those. It was very enjoyable. I met the teachers she works with and also her best friend from primary school upwards. I used to meet both of them from school years ago. Also our daughter's best friend from school who is our grand-daughter's godmother. So good to catch up with them. Our daughter arranged it all and made the most amazing cake again.
Lovely photos again @nelliethehooker. Anglesey is a lovely place.
Be careful where you put your 'Hot Lips' @Takethedogalong. They can be a bit of a thug. Ours has taken over the whole bed where I planted it a few years ago despite getting a regular severe haircut

We have a very good service from our doctors' surgery, although thankfully rarely have to use them. If need be we can get a phone consultation with a doctor on the same day if we phone early and am able to re-order OH's prescriptions on line for collection after 3 days of the email, and we get a text from the pharmacy when they are ready for collection.

Good to hear from you @DavidKlyne, and of your continuing progress. Good wishes to yourself and Margaret.
Arrived home yesterday from the '1st leg' of our summer travels..... what an aweful journey - so much traffic on the road all the way. It took us over 6 hours to do a 185 mile journey.
Today: a visit to see the MIL; Tomorrow: church; Monday: the car is booked in for some pre-arranged work + to repack the caravan, before we start the '2nd leg' of our holiday on Tuesday. Also, pretty busy here as our son is still here 'house sitting'!!
Had a quick look through the posts on here and everyone seems to be having a good time.

Love the cake, @milliehull - glad you had a good time.

We can usually get a telephone appointment after 'triage', but at our last Patients Participation Meeting, we discussed the option of filling in an on-line 'triage form'. This may may cut down phone calls... so I think the practice may give this a go - at least as an option!!

The cake looks too good to eat @milliehull , but I guess it was a lovely eat too! Thanks for the comments on the photos.
Glad you got home safe and sound @DSB even if it was a long tiring journey. You look to be busy for the next few days before heading off again.
A fine day here, cloudy at first but it slowly cleared and the sun eventually came out. We spent the morning walking around the lunar landscape of Parys Mountain, the huge opencast Copper mine.
We then had a walk along the Coastal Path from Amlwch Port, with views across Porth Eilian to Point Lynas lighthouse.
On my late afternoon walk I came across "Ivy Cottage", which is for sale, cheap, as it needs a bit of TLC!

Finished off the long border and the big square one that it ends with and planted all the new plants bought last week. OH managed to help a bit too. Was hard going but I'm satisfactorily tired.
Got damp several times, on was on my 4th set of clothes by 6pm 🤣. Really heavy shower I watched come over the fields whilst out with the dog. Any shelter I could have availed myself of was tge wrong side of the fence/hedge. A novel experience but at least it was warm. Mizzle once we'd started gardening,I was damper than I thought when my lunch was ready, so 2nd change. Mizzle continued for another couple of hours before we coukd start again. You've guessed it it started again but we worked on. Then the sun came out and anx I got a different sort of damp 🤣🤣. I scattered chicken pellets all over the border and bed, checked the forecast - no rain expected in the coming days so I suppose it'll be watering tomorrow 🤣
Both tired, so ordered a pizza delivery, lovely pizza place in the next village, before jumping in the shower.
Glad others have had a decent day. Beautiful cake @milliehull sounds like a lovely catch up day all round. I did my first, and only I reckon, baby shower last year with daughter in law, arranged by her friend since they were 4, as it wasn't possible to have one for her first born. I didn't realise they are only for your first child........
I'll pass on the house sale thanks @nelliethehooker - ours looked really good and we found loads to do 😉🤐. At least you'd go in with your eyes open for that one

Cottage looks an interesting project @nelliethehooker 😮!
Not relishing the thought of having to wait almost another three weeks before we go away again - I've booked Brid for three nights from next weekend. Even managed to get a serviced pitch although I won't comment on the prices🙄. I think the car should be able to drive itself there😀

@nelliethehooker 🤭 we once looked at a wreck like that in Cornwall, as a do-er upper. Decided that it would be too far to travel each weekend🤣 Interesting looking walk👍
@milliehull thank you for the warning😱 OH has been wanting one for ages, they are not my favourite plants, so I would have been cursing him had it taken over, I was trying to find a spot in the long bed yesterday. It’s going in a pot now🤣
Huge dilemma here. Do we watch the football live, or the last day of Tour🤔 Think it will have to be the footie, as someone will drop the result of that to us, whereas not as many family watch the Tour.

Good thinking @Takethedogalong. I wish I had planted mine in a pot 😟

We left Seacroft club site in Cromer this morning after a wonderful two weeks. Site was excellent nice pool and a club house which was great for a meal and a pint after a day out also had entertainment on. It was an area we had never visited before so we had plenty to do a highlight being a visit to sandringham also the weather was excellent for most of our stay there which made it even better. Took the awning down on Friday as it was dry glad we did as yesterday it rained most of the day. Moved on now up to Knaersborough easy enough 4 hour tow up here. Had a pint in the bar here which was busy with people watching the football. Not going to bother putting the awning up as we are only here a few days.
Hope everyone else has had a nice weekend

You certainly have found lots to see from Cromer @Francis glad the start of your journey home has gone without a hitch.
Enjoy your short break at Brid, @richardandros it must be a very short tow for you.
@Takethedogalong I think that it would be less expensive to bulldoze the whole building and the land, and build a new property on the plot, than trying to renovate what is left of the cottage.

We had a little rain overnight but it had been dry for nearly all of the day, with just a very light shower this evening. As with previous ones it has cleared up as the day progessed, with the sun coming out around lunchtime. We found a carpark at Llaneilian and had a walk up to the lighthouse at Point Lynas, where we came across a survey of alone mammals going on by the Sea Watch Foundation, and spotted a Grey Seal as we were talking to them!
Looking down into Porth Eilian, with the headland of Graig Ddu on the right.
After a picnic lunch we drove round to Traeth Dynion for another short walk on the Wales Coastal Path. There is an unusual jetty tucked into the cliff below the path, which juts out into Porth Llechog (Bull Bay).

I quite like the Brid site, @richardandros, but for a change, we've decided to drop off at Cayton Bay this time, on our way up to Northumberland. Just taken the car in for the new runningboards/side steps to be fitted, so all should be good for our journey tomorrow.
Interesting restoration project there, @nelliethehooker 😀. Enjoy your Anglesey visit.... great photos, as usual. Glad you enjoyed Cromer @Francis - it's been a few years since we've been to Seacroft.

Our journey up to New England Bay took longer than usual. We got on the M6 at J36 and from there up to Tebay services it was a stop/start crawl. It turned out the police were looking for an escaped convict and had stopped both north and southbound and closed down Tebay services.
Lots of mentions of Norman Stanley Fletcher and Slade Prison on family and friends texts.

We did think about Cayton Bay, @DSB - especially as, believe it or not - we haven't been there. However, since we're due at our usual CS near Malton and we tend to gravitate towards Scarborough / Filey, when we're there, we decided against it.

Getting over the shock of our lives, we were traveling south along the M5 towing our caravan when the lorry in front had a nearside trailer tyre explode with a hell of a bang and what was left of the tyre lay in the inside lane luckily the traffic was light and the good lady was able move to the middle lane and the lorry driver pulled over to hard shoulder and we were traveling at a safe distance behind the lorry.

@richardandros I know you got a stock, but today in Lidl they had a full shelf of sardines in tomato sauce. I got a couple of tins to try our pooch with. Enjoy Brid.
@armesford that sounds horrendous. Shows the need for staying a safe distance behind and hardshoulder......
@goldie happy holidays. Did they catch the escaped convict?
Trouble with the @ posts again. Especially if you have fat finger syndrome. .....
trip to local Dunelm The Range and Lidl - we know how to live! Seems to have been very successful - proof of the pudding will be if said items, not Lidl ones, fit where they've been purchased for.....

I assume it was on a part of the Motorway that hadn't been converted to "Smart". Hate travelling on those parts of the system that are Smart.
Packing the Van for a few days away by the seaside. OH has taken MiL to our local hospital for her physio appointment. We think it will be her last as there's not much more the physio can do.
1 -
Sounds horrendous @Amesford - I wonder why TPMS isn't compulsory on artic trailers as it now is with cars? That would have allowed the driver to pull over before it got to that stage.
@Bakers2 - I'm sure pooch will love them😀. Yes, I now have a few months supply but it's good to hear that they may be reappearing again. As an aside - did you know that the tomato sauce also stops the grass going yellow when they go for a wee on the lawn!! Don't ask me why - but my dear departed friend told me that years ago and it's certainly true. (I'm full of bits of useless information like that🙄).
