@Bakers2 Regarding charity shops etc in the area: there is a place called Care Zone it is right next door to the recycing centre in Fengate P/B (nothing to do with them) which gratefully takes houshold items, including bedding and distributes to those in need. I haven't used them but my friend who moved recently did. They have limited opening. Both Sue Ryder and the British Heart Foundation in P/B take furniture and will collect. Hope this helps. Goodness your sweet corn is enormous!
Wet and windy here today so not sure what the plan is yet.

PS I too have been wondering about @DavidKlyne I do hope he is doing well and possibly at home.
Someone enquired about Helen and Trevor a while ago. I am in touch with them from time to time and they are both well.

@Francis - you're a very brave man - there's no way you would have got me up there. Felt dizzy just looking at the pics!😯 Pleased you had a good time, though.
Most impressive sweetcorn @Bakers2 - soon be ready for the BBQ! We're very lucky having such nice neighbours - the last lot were dreadful and wouldn't do a thing for anyone other than themselves - totally selfish - and always looking to make a quick buck at someone else's expense. Adam, Becky and the kids are the complete opposite and it's a real delight having them living next door. They've only been here 4 years - indeed Toby was just 5 weeks old when they moved in. Just hope they don't move anytime soon😀.
Also hope @DavidKlyne is doing OK. The husband of a friend of Ros had a stroke about a month ago and he's still in the rehab unit of the hospital. I think it's going to be a long slow process in his case.
Didn't realise you were in our part of the world @Takethedogalong - I can almost see Fraisthorpe from our back garden. I would have popped up to say hello if I'd known. Hope you managed your paddle😀 although the weather isn't too brilliant at the moment.

A rather wet and miserable day here today so we took a run over to Sandringham. We had a (slow) wander, visited the gift shop and had some lunch where the crockery was really beautiful. We also visited the plant shop which is the best I have been to for some while. We bought another floribunder rose bush (it would have been rude not to!). Last day today - home tomorrow. Just a short break this time. It has been most enjoyable.

Well that day didn't go quite as planned. Early start to do some food shopping and call in at the Pharmacy for the balance of MiLs prescription (third visit).
Quick coffee at home and OH wanted to get her mother sorted with a new mobile phone. We have recently been switched over to VOIP system with BT. Basically it's getting rid of old phone lines and relying on the web to run the phones. All well and good except MiL has mobility problems and we've had to move the phone in her room to a spot more convenient for connecting to the internet. This new system only allows a few rings before cutting off, 7 to start with until I complained when it was moved to 10 (max allowed). The last thing we want is her rushing from wherever she is in the bungalow to answer the phone. BTW the system says leave a message but if you don't have the correct phone it will go to the ether. Several villagers have been angry with friends not returning calls, which they know nothing about. Anyway we've decided to try to wean MiL off landline and she has agreed as she can keep her mobile on her Hostess Trolley wherever she goes.
So we went to EE in our biggest retail park to get her a phone she could use. Great, she found one but I asked about getting rid of our BT contract knowing Broadband is going over to EE soon and our contract needs sorting in a couple of months time. Anyway 90 minutes later he'd cancelled the BT and set up cheaper EE minus the landline. Trouble is the phone side for landline stops tomorrow so I'll be responsible for phoning/texting the relevant contact lists of the 3 of us tomorrow.
Did hope to get some gardening done but that disappeared.
Pity your last day was mostly wet @milliehull but at least you seemed to find solace in a Rose bush.😁 You take after OH's Grandfather who was Rose mad. You seemed to have enjoyed the 5 nights. Maybe heading home is just as well as it's supposed to be very hot in East Anglia tomorrow.

Shame about the poor weather for your final day @milliehull but seem to have the best of it.
Looks like a real fun day out @Francis It was very brave of your OH going along for the ride to, I certainly wouldn't be able to persuade Mrs nth to venture onto one of those. Great photos of the view from it.
Good to see that you too are having a grand trip @DSB
Hope that your MIL is soon up to speed with her new phone @Wherenext

It was a dull start to the day yesterday and it didn't brighten up until the late afternoon. We drove up to Llyn Brenig, for a walk and in particular to see their Ospreys, which were all on the nest when I arrived at the observation point, and I saw both the adults take a short flight onto the camera perch. I left before a visit before a party lead by Iolo Willams arrived. The reservoir was nearly full, and not way down like Carsington Water, and being used by lots of Fly Fishermen.
I called in at the Grade 1 listed All Saints Old Parish Church, Langar on the way back, but was disappointed to find it closed, as it has some medieval wall paintings, some dating from the 15C.

It was a similar start to the day as yesterday, dry but with a mist drifting up the valley. We got away as planned and had a good, and interesting, drive along the A5 to the coast and then over onto Anglesey. The mist seemed to follow us but we could see clear skies above it. This is the view as we drove through Snowdonia, with the Carnedds on the right and Tryfan on the left.
We are on a super new site for us, a CL with serviced pitches, near Amlwch, Capel Bach, which OH spotted discounted FB - £18:40 pn. It has stayed hazy here all afternoon but eventually the sun came out and it was very warm this evening and we now have a red sky.

Loving all the photos, @milliehull, @nelliethehooker, @Francis, @Bakers2, @Wherenext and others... great to hear how everyone is enjoying tbe summer.
Last day of the 'first leg' of our summer in the caravan. Off home tomorrow for a few days, before we venture to the north east. Just had to finish with another visit to Knoll beach Studand... including a stop at the beach cafe.... and we stopped off on the way back to take a photo of the view across to Sandbanks and Poole... not very clear today. It was cloudy whilst on the beach but still fine for sitting out, and the beach was quite crowded....

Great to see everyone’s photos seems like we are all enjoying the summer
We took a drive today along to Wells Next the Sea a place we have always wanted to visit we liked it but not quite as I was expecting may be to do with the weather as it was dull cool and windy so maybe didn’t see it in the best light. After that we stopped off in Sheringham to have a pint at the Crown Inn where we had been last week although this time we didn’t sit in the beer garden. Daughter SIL and Gdaughter last night tonight so they treated us to a meal at the site club house then there was a singer on who was vey good so a good day overall. Weather looking better for tomorrow

Fifty five years ago today -
We’re celebrating tonight with some of the family at our favourite restaurant. Then on Sunday we’re escaping across the border for another attempt at an uninterrupted holiday. New England Bay. We first went there in 1976. Then after a few years of going elsewhere (mainly Wales) we returned. I’ve photos of every year since 2005.

Congratulations @Goldie146. Have a great time.

@Goldie146 Congratulations from us and enjoy your holiday, we are 1 year behind you on September 11th
We are off to B&B on Sunday in the Cantal about 2 hours from here for our birthdays Monday and Tuesday and it looks as if it will be much cooler than last year around 20C to 24C and 2024 37.C on mine and 41.3C on OH's a bit of a difference, only a 3 night break but looking forward to it and meals out for the two days.
Have a good weekend folks.

We had a lovely day at Burton Agnes yesterday, gardens still lovely despite the drought and not being able to water. Possibly not as lush as usual, but the fruit and veg was magnificent. Walled Garden was full of different butterflies, so lovely to see them. Nice ride home via Fraisthorpe (tide in so no paddle), Brandesburton for Fish and Chips, and then a meander through Beverley. Campsite at Fraisthorpe was full, and there were a few on the THS overlooking the beach as well. That will be heaving next week when more schools are off. A few photos…..
Peacock Butterfly
Red Admiral Butterfly
Small Tortoiseshell
Large White
Globe Artichoke, no butterfly!

CCongratulations @Goldie146 . Enjoy your celebrations. Hopefully you can get an uninterrupted break and you can both have a good, well earned rest.
Wonderful photos folks. Keep them coming.
Thank you for the information @milliehull. Could be very useful. Luckily all but 2 items have gone.
I'm trying to garden, gradually getting along the border that's escaped attention since the spring. The bulb leaves are easily cleared 🤣. It's a beautiful day but much warmer than I'd like 🥵. So I've adjourned to the shade with a long drink. The soil, plenty of heavy clay, is perfect for working with. So I'll pace myself. I still have a wheelbarrow full of plants to go in - some were planted last week. Result of taking OH to the garden centre. We still have plenty of space!
I was shocked yesterday, lots of mizzle and lots if showers iver the last few days, the plants I put in last week were desperate for a drink!
HHowever You're spending your day enjoy it.

Same from me @Goldie146. Enjoy your day.
It's been quite a good year for butterflies @Takethedogalong. Nice pics and glad you had a lovely day. We've just booked 3 nights away next week down near Porthmadog/Criccieth area. MiLs favourite carer coming in twice a day.
OH currently going through her new phone with her, I think this is the 5th or 6th. run! Her patience is astounding. Been stuck indoors today doing lots of admin as our landline was promptly disconnected at 9 am sharp by BT. First time they've ever done anything quickly.
Hope you enjoy your birthdays @RedKite. Will you trying the Aligot?
1 -
@Wherenext we love Criccieth, a lovely little place. A castle and Cadwalleder’s ice cream……heaven! Enjoy😁

Many congratulations @Goldie146 and enjoy your birthday celebrations @RedKite .
Lovely photos @Takethedogalong - sound like you had a good day out. I've often thought about that site at Fraisthorpe - would be great for dog walking - being virtually on the beach - wouldn't fancy taking a caravan down that single track road, though😮. We know Burton Agnes quite well. When Susan Cunliffe-Lister was Lord Lieutenant, she used to host an annual reception for St John Ambulance - when I worked for them - and she usually gave us a conducted tour of her house.😀

@Wherenext Have had Aligot before will see what is on the menus when we get there and thanks for birthday wishes will be 75 both of us.
@Takethedogalong Glad you had a good day out and great photos and as WN said it has been a good year for butterflies some I have not seen before.
Just had a couple of short showers but could do with more.
Not had our holiday to UK yet and now looking at next year possibly North Devon somewhere near RHS Rosemoor gardens had a short browse but will look again another day self catering again.

Hi Everyone
About time i gave you an update. I actually came home from the Re-Hab Centre on Tuesday this week having been there for about 7 weeks. I was delayed leaving a little due to some work needed to be done in the house, more stair rails in the main. The Physio Team at the Centre were excellent. They taught me how to climb stairs and develop my walking skills, albeit with the aid of a three pronged stick. We may need further changes to the house depending on the progress I make. Both Paul and Simon have made other adaptions to make life a little easier. Now I am home poor Margaret is taking on the task of looking after me. Still have to be careful when walking around as its easy to loose balance so being ultra cautious. Left arm still pretty weird, its just a question of forcing it to do thing in the hope the brain will learn accept the changes. I am pretty exhausted but I was warned when I left the Centre that I would sleep a lot! Nice to be eating home food again. Since this has happened I have lost abut two stone in weight which is probably no bad thing? I think its now just a case of working on the leg strength to improve the walking and maybe in time not needing a walking aid, even if that was just around the house
Thanks to those who have asked after my progress. Would love to be able to drive but suspect that is a little way off but will be working towards that. I have an appointment at MK Hospital in early August so hopefully that will point the way forward. I am still to get more physio at home but that is yet to be arranged. I think its a case of battling on and hoping for small improvements as time goes by?
David

@richardandros yes we really like Burton Agnes. It’s a lovely interesting house as well, plus the old Hall. I was 16 when I first visited, had gone on holiday with my best friend and her family. Auburn Farm Campsite is a great location, and extras now it has the nice Cafe. There’s another site we love just down the road at Barmston, Rectory Farm. We drove up yesterday and it’s still there, no longer a CL though, so both the ex CL and the private site are probably run together now. That will be two sets of showers and loos. We are not keen on Brid itself, but the countryside, villages around are really lovely, and there are plenty of very different good value sites to choose from, including CLs.
I didn’t manage to leave BA without buying more plants🤭 OH wanted a Salvia Hotlips, and I choose a couple of rich deep pink Carnations. Just got to find some space now🤭
Gorgeous day here, hot and sunny. Hoping for a dip when I get home, meantime pottering in Mum’s garden.
mum’s very tall Hollyhocks, I planted them from my seeds last year, after building a little plot to tidy up a newly fenced bit of garden. They must be 10ft tall.
Today’s take home goodies, tomatoes from greenhouse, and some rhubarb.

Heading in the right direction thankfully @DavidKlyne . Do as you body wants, if it's sleep do so. It's been a really traumatic time. Small steps and practicing exercises. Make sure Margaret rests too.
Happy birthday's to the @r@redkite - thats a new one.
I'm back in the shade, misjudged the amount of shade on the border. Still small steps making improvements.

@DavidKlyne It's really good to hear from you, I'm very pleased to hear you're back home. It must have been a bit scary at the same time perhaps, going from being in the Rehab centre with all the physios and other staff, to being without all that at home. But no doubt Margaret will be watching you like a hawk and taking good care of you. I think you've done very well so far, and hope that you continue to improve.
All the best to both you and Margaret and do keep us informed from time to time.
1 -
@DavidKlyne so pleased to hear you are home. I can well imagine how frustrating things will be for a while but small steps lead to bigger steps in time so try not to rush things. Sleep and eat sounds like a great plan so go with it. Take care, and keep us posted when you can.

Should have mentioned that Margaret has been referred to the NHS for her other hip! The Private Consultant mentioned when she had her first one done that the other would also need doing and suggested getting in early. She is ,of yet, not in a lot of pain so the operation could be some way off but at least its in the system,
David

Good to hear you are home @DavidKlyne. You should start to come on now. No distractions if you want an unscripted sleep, and you should, as others have said, do what your body wants. I was still falling asleep mid afternoon months after the Stroke. Wish I could get my Mother-in-Law to do it. She just nods off in her chair. It's her age that prevents her taking herself off to lie on her bed when its needed. Plenty of spare time to get a jigsaw going, good physio for your hand.😁
Good to hear Margaret is in the system.

So good to hear from you @DavidKlyne and also to hear that you are now home. Dont try to rush things (as much as you might want to) and take it easy. Margaret needs to rest as well. So pleased to hear that she is in the system.
Congratulations @Goldie146 and OH. Hope you have had a good day. Enjoy your birthdays @RedKite and OH.
Well wouldnt you know it after a fairly miserable day yesterday we woke to lovely sunshine today - the day we came home! Luckily we left early so it was a pleasant journey home. Very hot this afternoon. We left our cat in the care of local son and daughter who regularly popped round to feed and water her. However she is very vocally telling us that she is starving and hasn't been fed all week!
I hope you enjoy your trip away this week @Wherenext and that MIL gets the hang of her new phone.

@DavidKlyne I can only reiterate what all the others have said. It is good to read your update and I hope your steady improvement continues. All the best.We
@Takethedogalong good to read that you had a grand day at Burton Agnes, and by the seaside. Super photos and well done with the produce from your mum's.
More lovely photos, thanks for sharing @Francis and @DSB
Congratulations to both you and your OH @Goldie146. Hope you all have a great time celebrating it. Happy birthday to both you and your OH @RedKite. Belated best wishes for your anniversary, which I think I missed, @heddlo
