What are you all up to

We have had rain. 10 seconds of it, neither use nor ornament🤭 We had to go up to Royal Hallamshire hospital in Sheffield yesterday morning, an anomaly on OH’s latest scan, which always raises the 😱level. Thankfully, it proved to be nothing, so we took advantage of an early start and headed across to Renishaw Hall and Gardens for lunch and a stroll around the gardens. Nice food, and we took the pooch for a roll in his chariot, but it was a very hot day, we were flagging in the heat mid afternoon. We rejoined HHA a couple of days ago, so hoping to do a few more properties not too far away, until we can get back out touring again. Gardens were looking lovely as usual, although the drought is taking its toll. We were back home for 3.30pm, and glad to be in cool of house with fans going.
Sorry to hear about your friend @milliehull, very sad.
Some more great photos from others having good tours👍
It’s a rather good year for all kinds of Butterflies in our area, always nice to see a lot flittering around. Plenty in the gardens yesterday, and we have had plenty in our own garden, plus some day flying moths. Even had a few Hummingbird Hawk Moths. I have planted lots of Nasturtiums this year, sort of sacrificial, and the Butterflies love them, we have been finding hundreds of little caterpillars munching away. Lots of different bees as well.
Hot Dog in a corner of Renishaw Gardens. He’s got orange socks now to go with his collar🤭

@Takethedogalong Good photo of pooch and glad you enjoyed the gardens and all well with your OH, I did seen the gardeners world programme on the RHS flower show from Wentworth Woodhouse and not far from you a really good show and even had young cyclists going around a small bumpy track. I do miss going around different gardens as not many around here but will do some when in UK in September.
Well we have also had some light rain not enough for the garden but tomorrow a thunderstorm forecast so will see if it happens but as our village fete is on the locals will not want any rain as all entertainment and tomorrow is Petanque competition day and very loud music in the evening even here we can hear it.

@milliehull we took the car in and managed to find a space just next to the railway station had a great day as you say it’s a lovely place.
We have had rain since around 5 this morning I got woken up by it battering off the roof and it’s been steady ever since but I don’t mind a bit of rain as it’s been so hot here since we arrived on Sunday. Not sure of plan for today yet but will likely be something indoors such as a museum we shall see

Well the rain did come @Bakers2 but it has now gone again☹️. Not sure it has done much good but at least it is cooler.
Lovely photo of your pooch @Takethedogalong. I am glad all OK with your OH. I too watched Gardeners World from Wentworth Woodhouse @RedKite I really enjoyed it as it was a bit more 'down to earth'. I loved the story of the miner's cottages and their gardens.

@milliehull it's been easing and getting steady again. Hopefully it'll come your way.
Watching and listening to the garden sighing with relief and greening up. Steadily filling the waterbutts. The air has cooled so much I've had to close the kitchen door as I felt cool 🤣. A very novel experience of late.
Sneaking a break from admin 😉
Slightly damp dog walk. We did go to her favourite immediately offlead bridleway. Back to seriously limiting daily steps again! The farmer keeps it almost as short as a lawn. Great for even damp muddy wet dog walks. But he has the audacity to blame dog walkers for the lack of wildlife and birds! A 15 foot, minimum, from hedgerow to crop start leaves wildlife vunerable. Its the same found every edge of that particular field... Mind you we see hare, deer, stoats and weasels and hear loads of birds including skylarks. I think the meadows the other side of the path and hedge assist with habitat.
LLovely Photos from all. Keep them coming.
Back to grappling with excel. Remembered lots re formulas, wrapping text but can't figure out how to.make the columns deeper so they are easier to.read. only ever did it as a 'sideline' at work and rarely at home. A new laptop isn't helping much either 🙃 .I will preserve and not be beaten..…..... well without a good fight 🤣

@RedKite the WW show is still on this weekend, it’s been a huge draw, thousands of visitors, and the traffic is a bit chaotic. My Sis lives overlooking the Estate, and she is stopping at Mum’s rather than getting snarled up in things. I was sent some photos yesterday from friends, they had a fabulous if very hot day. I deliberated over tickets, but with the way our pooch is at the moment, decided to give it a miss. I have done big flower shows before, and know that it can be a very long, hot day, and you do need a full day to do it justice. It will be a huge boost for the WWTrust, will entice even more visitors to return for a good look around. Hopefully it will happen again, although….there are still tickets left for tomorrow🤔🤣 Some of my friends photos….
This is the “alternative” Whistlejacket painting🤭 Not as famous as the real one, he was supposed to be very badly behaved🤭
My Grandad would have loved this, he was a Gardener for “The Big House” when quite young.7 -
@milliehull Wentworth Village has a preservation order on it, and there are still some beautiful gardens. My Great Grandad was a Mineworker in a Fitzwilliam pit, they had a tied cottage on the Estate in Fenton Woods. Idyllic above ground, but it was still a hard life, all Grandad’s brothers and sisters either worked in the mines (they owned lots) or in service. Lucky Grandad got a Gardening job! Photo of houses in village…..

@Bakers2 - re your Excel problem - just put your cursor on the boundary between two columns - at the top where the column letters are - and you will get that double arrow as in the pic - between columns E & F. Just drag the boundary either way to make it smaller of larger. Hope that makes sense!😀

@richardandros thank you for your kind post.
I've got the hang of that one, once I'd grimaced much 🤣. It's the depth of the boxes I'm struggling with. Can do as you suggest on each, but then I can't get them uniform. I'd ideally like 1.5 spacing. Hitting return would be the answer in word, but of course in excel it goes to the next horizontal box 🤐😢.
I have a choice between playing with the excel problem now or trying to hang loose blackout linings to the curtains in the back bedrooms. I bet lots of you are jealous at my options 🤣.
Got damp running from the door to the car to drive to an appointment in the village. Managed to park right outside the salon, the devil takes care of his own!, but still got damp as it was dolly dancing. Eased lots now and brightening. Lots of puddles but apart from a few minutes, when I needed to go out, it had been a decent gentle steady rain. Just the sought I'd ordered.

@Bakers2 - I assume you've worked out that you can do the same with the "Y" axis - thus altering the depth. What you can then do - is highlight the line, make it deeper by dragging the boundary to halfway down the next line. Click - and that will set it at that depth. Then, highlight that line and do a 'copy and paste' into the next line and so on. That will then give you 1.5 lines spacing or at least an exact copy of that spacing😀. Bit difficult to put into words!!

@richardandros thank you so much. Yes I'd got the double arrows, but didn't know about highlighting. I'll try again.....
Well I've spent the last 2 and a bit hours adding blackout linings to the 2 back bedroom windows.
Read and followed the instructions. Carefully calculating spacing adding hooks. Step 2 laid linings on existing curtains as instructed. Could immediately see that wasn't going to work 😡🤬. Set about removing hooks - they were badly finished so before I started again, I found a file and rubbed off the tiny sharp pertruding bits. Lay the lining on existing curtain and placed lining on it. Then placed hook in tge lining tape at approximately the centre of the eyelets. Then attached the rings. Then folded the eyelets catching the lining rings with them. them and put them back on the pole. First curtain took longer to do than the following 3 combined.... Actually my method was much easier. Why are instructions so obscure these days? All done in theory? Translated from the foreign? Rant over.
We now have lovely sunshine and almost clear blue skies. My water butt's are full 😃

Lovely flower photos @Takethedogalong including the of the house gardens, and of pooch too. Pleased that there was nothing untoward after all following your OH's scan.
I will keep my eyes open for more interesting trees during our travels for you @milliehull. Pleased that everything went ok at the funeral, and good that you were able to chat to people who you have not met for a while.
Good to hear that some of those that needed the rain have finally had some, but of course It is rather too late for most of the crops.
As no-one has supplied an answer to my photo "quiz" the other day, it was an RAF Bombing tower, actually a Quadrant Tower from the 1940's and 1950's when the valley which now contains Carsington Water was used for bombing practice. This tower, and a sister, now lost under the waters, were used to plot & triangulate the position of the "hits".

It has been threatening to rain all day, but apart from an odd spot, it never materialised. We were late rising and then had to go and do a bit of shopping, with frozen food which had to be back in the freezer as soon as possible, so we only managed a few walks from the van afterwards. We had no wind and It was stifeling at times, not appreciate by either OH or Flyte. The site is the quietest we have ever seen, and looking at the CC's web site's Late Availability there are very few sites across the whole country where one cannot find a pitch for the whole of next week and weekend.
Managed to book another site on our current tour, after seeing a FB post offering a discount during the period we were looking for.😁

Glad you are still enjoying your tour, @nelliethehooker and all the photo's - @Takethedogalong. Good to read what everyone is up to....
Weather still good for our visit to Knoll Beach (National Trust), Studland, today. Beach was quite crowded, but no problem parking. This beach also has a beach cafe. Views across to Poole...
...and across in the direction towards Old Harry Rocks (on the skyline), and Swanage (around the corner).
You can even see the Isle of Wight....

Good day yesterday we went out in the afternoon and headed to Norwich camping and leisure what a great place massive shop with lots of accessories and a cafe and farm shop. Bought a new welcome mat for the entrance to caravan and also got a new pizza stone for the Cadac as our previous one was 12 years old and worn out the surface was almost completely black so got a new one will give that a try later tonight. Then we took a drive along the front at Great Yarmouth it was really busy so we couldn’t get parked but we plan to go a day during the week for a wander round the shore front area it looked good and worth a visit. They had entertainment on in the club house last night so went to that which was enjoyable. Very warm here again this morning but just planning a day on site today May go to the pool then watch the Tour de France in the afternoon

@Francis ITV’s rest day TdeF programme (from last Tuesday) is well worth a watch if you haven’t seen it, the wonderful Phil Liggett provides some of his great memories. Only an hour long, via ITVX.
Well, we had some proper rain yesterday. Not torrential, but it did come down for a good few hours, and my garden is sighing with relief. Bit sad for all the folks who were visiting the WWFlower show though, although a good bit of it is undercover. There’s been lots in the press about traffic congestion, and some issues with the P&R. It’s via tiny roads though, and the village itself is only tiny. But the good news is, it’s will be coming back again in 2028. We will be on look out for Red Arrows today, they are due to fly over around 3pm on their way up to Aberdeen.
Great to see some more interesting photos from folks on tour👍

We had quite a lot of rain yesterday, as well. Not the predicted thunderstorms and flooding - but enough to give the garden a good soaking. Well - it was bound to rain this weekend because it's Hornsea Carnival and it always rains for that🙄
Spent most of the day setting up my new iPhone and then doing the same with my old one so Ros could have it. She wasn't bothered about having the latest bells and whistles - just something physically bigger than her old one.
During the process, unbeknown to me, my old phone was upgraded to the latest version of iOS which includes AI. I didn't realise the phone supported it. Then she got a call from the Opticians - didn't answer it in time so they left a voicemail. AI, apparently now turns the voicemail into a instant text message so that you can read it without having to 'ring' the answerphone. Only trouble was, was that the text message was the complete opposite of what had been left in the voicemail!!
Needless to say - having found out that this wonderful new feature is called "Live Voicemail" and there is a way to turn it off - it's now well and truly off on both phones!! Progress, eh?

Well for those who have no rain you can certainly have some of ours, it’s been raining since Friday night. We did manage an evening sitting outside the caravan having some drinks with friends who came over but then the rain. We travelled to our Sons yesterday and the rain on the journey was torrential. It’s barely stopped since. OHs fault as he said he didn’t want it to be too hot. Out for a meal last night with Son and family to celebrate his birthday and granddaughters graduation, which was lovely. Then back to theirs to watch old dvds of our five grandchildren when very young (we have six but the youngest wasn’t born then) gosh I’d almost forgotten how hectic it was in our house as there is hardly any age between them all, but they were all so cute. Apart from the youngest who’s 12 they are all in their 20s and very late teens now. A very lazy day today, nothing for me to do, granddaughter is making lunch, apparently no help is needed. We will return to the caravan this evening. Just hope that the weather settles down.3

We too have had rain!
It rained through the night but was dry for most of the morning and thankfully it was quite refreshing, although warm still. Another walk from the van before lunch as we were waiting for son and DIL to arrive after lunch, Had a heavy shower just before they arrived but it stayed dry during their visit, so managed a dry walk with the dogs. Great to see them again and we had a good catchup. They headed home just before we had a prolonged thunderstorm and a heavy downpour, and then another shower half an hour ago, but it doesn't look as if has had much effect on the land.
The thunderclouds before the rain came.

Heavy rain here during the afternoon was bouncing off the ground there were a lot of vans came in at 1 and the people setting up must have got soaked. We spent the day at the van I watched the Tour de France then we cooked dinner on the Cadac as the sun came out around 6ish. Wandered down to club house and had a pint in the beer garden as it brightened up and was still 22 degrees. @nelliethehooker glad you had a good meet up with son and DIL
Hope everyone else had a nice weekend
Below is a pic of my pint on the beer garden the club house had ran out of Doom Bar (I must have drank it all over the past week lol)

We had rain overnight too, @Francis and @nelliethehooker. Glad you had a good family meet up, Nellie.
For us, a drive out to Portland today. A little on the dull side at Wareham after the rain overnight, but the weather brightened up for our visit. A nice hot drink and 'cream tea' in the cafe at Portland Bill, and as well as a good look around.

Nearly 9 weeks with wall to wall sunshine and just before school break up for summer we have days of rain to look forward to!
Went to hospital to have a lump removed from my face, op went well just have to wait for the pathology report.Going to take the van to dealer on Thursday to have the gas system checked and get a new jockey wheel fitted. 3 times recently the wheel dropped down whilst travelling on the M25, that’s quite stressful
Great to see everyone’s photographs

@Oneputt glad the op went well
pouring here this morning the rain is so loud on the roof we can’t hear the tv. Will be somewhere indoors for us today will likely visit a museum. Not sure if it shows up well in the pic but the rain is pouring like a waterfall down the side window of the van0 -
@Francis we got a WhatsApp message from a friend in Norwich showing a video of the rain in her garden. I can well believe the ferocity of it from your window pic.
It's been threatening here on and off all day but we seem to have been spared. Plenty to do in town this morning. Popped into CAB first thing to make an appointment but didn't get out for an hour! Popped into Pharmacy to pick up second half of MiLs prescription that they didn't have last week. Didn't get out for half an hour as they've lost it! Urgent request being sent by them to GP but we won't have it for at least 3 days.
Had to return to town this afternoon as OH had a Mammogram screening appointment. I tend to drive to these as she has been known to pass out during procedure but fine today.
Fingers crossed the results are good @Oneputt.

Well due to the weather this morning we decided that we would do an indoor attraction today so headed off to the Thursford steam museum about 15 miles from Cromer. What a great place lots of old steam engines and fair ground rides as well as the big musical organs and they all played songs they also had a person playing the organ up on stage he was brilliant how he can memories all those tunes and what keys to press is amazing. Great place to spend a couple of hours and reasonably priced too they were advertising their Christmas events already :( which SWMBO loved but a bit too soon for my liking we are still of summer. We had a go on the hobby horse ride many years since been on one of them. On way back the sun came back out so we decided to do pizza on the Cadac tonight which was lovely. Now just sitting out in the awning.
