It has been quite cloudy at times today, but when the sun did appear it was nearly as warm as yesterday. We had another walk by the Reservoir this morning, and I a second one down to the Wildlife Hide and onto the Dam. Quite a few units have left the site and there are now only 18 here tonight. The nights do seem to be drawing in rather quickly now.
The view around the first part of the dam.
This was the sunset last night.

We may not be away, but weโve still got views! As well as our main farm we have some land up near Killington Service Station on the M6. I believe you can see the lake from there. And maybe our heifers across the other side.
And back down home in the new dairy - a highly complicated piece of kit.

PlPlease send up and over this way when you've had enough @DSB . Seriously that's no fun however novel rain is!
Wow @Goldie146 gone are the days of a 3 legged stool and bucket ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Fabulous photos everyone, thank you.
A lovely start to the day here, slow actually I'm just having breakfast. It's a much cooler day again, so welcome after the heat. Who'd have thought in England we'd welcome 24 as a cool day? It's currently 21 here. Slight breeze and some cloud cover. We had plenty of of cloud yesterday which was welcome ๐คฃ๐คฃ as when the sun broke through the temperature shot up! Luckily that was an odd 10-15 minute blast.

....well, @Bakers2 .... it was a quick 10 -15 minute very heavy downpour. Sun has come out now, so I think I'll cope with the semi-pack-up. (Btw... semi-pack-up, because we're moving up to Putts Corner..... only a couple of hours before we set up again... ๐)

Oh, I'd fogotten St Swithin ๐ฎ. It's son in laws birthday - very apt ๐ค. No thanks, we just need some to refresh things - I'd still like summer to continue. Refilling of water stocks can happen in stages! If only there were no leaks and folk used water sensibly ๐ค. Terrible fires needing loads water to put them. I'll include folk who don't think about the consequences of their actions.

@Bakers2 reminds me of a Summer in the mid 90โs round here. The peat lands around Thorne and Hatfield (North of Doncaster) were on fire, deep underground as well. OH was based in Fire Training Centre at the time, so it literally became โall hands to the pumpsโ. He led a team that collected a good few Green Goddess Fire Engines from an Army base in Uttoxeter, (top speed 30mph as no water baffles, nee naw, nee naw๐คญ), basically a massive pump on wheels. They had all these engines running 24 hours a day for weeks, trying to put out the underground smouldering fires, I never knew what time OH would arrive home. Sometimes he did over 12 hour shifts. However, the overtime was tremendous for us, we were still paying a high rate mortgage at the time, but still managed a full month away on holiday with annual leave and accrued time off.
This area is really interesting, has a very long history of peat extraction, and most keen gardeners of pre 2000 will probably have used a peat product originating from hereโฆโฆ.Miracle Grow!

@Goldie146 thats a very interesting equipment set up. Are you looking to sell your own products at all? Or supplying more to other producers?

lovely day today we were up quite early but stayed around the van relaxing this morning it rained overnight but has been lovely and warm today averaging around 26 degrees. In the afternoon we took a walk in to Cromer what a nice place had a wander around the narrow streets and down to the shore front. Then took a walk along the pier and had a pint from the bar there sitting out overlooking the sea lovely warm day and a good walk lovely town with plenty to see so will probably pay it another visit. Back to the van and cooked some burgers on the Cadac still vey warm here but. Now sitting in the awning having a drink. May head down to the on site bar later for a pint. Not sure of the plan for tomorrow yet

Grand photos, @Francis glad you had a good first day out in Cromer. I'm sure there will be someone else who really appreciates them, won't you millieh?
@Oneputt good to see that you have got away again, enjoy your stay in Bucks.
That is some bit of kit @Goldie146

A bit of mixed weather today, cloudy at first but it brightened up and was still hot in the sunshine. We did have a very short shower this evening and the wind has been blowing over the site all day. We firstly drove to Tissington for a short walk, knowing that the hall was not open but had a walk around the village to view the Wells and the Grade II listed 12C St Mary's church.
The Hall and the Hall Well
The memorial to Francis (d 1619)and John (d 1643) Fitzherbert, in the church.
Then we went onto Ilam for a walk after lunch and another church, which is a site of pilgrimage to the tomb of St Bertram.
The Hall, now a Youth Hostel, the Church of the Holy Cross, the font, the Pike Watts Memorial, and St Bertram's Bridge.
The Norman font, thought to depict the life of St Bertram.

We have always wanted to show where our milk comes from. We've been organic for over 20 years and have sold our milk to organic milk companies - currently to Organic Herd
. But then it becomes part of a generic organic milk pool. We decided to get closer to the customer and show the background of our farm. Not just organic, but produced in a very nature friendly way. SeeSome of our milk will still be going to Organic Herd, but some elsewhere. I can't say too much at the moment. Including local catering businesses. And probably locals. Building up slowly.
The label will include brief details about the milk and us, plus a QR code for more information. All beautifully designed by my daughter-in-law. We have a website and Instagram account which will give updates. Sorry if this is advertising!

@Goldie146 what a fantastic venture. I wish you all the best with it, the kind of thing we look out for when out and about. Thanks for sharing as well, can fully understand the need to keep things low key at the moment.

I feel like I've gone deaf.
Mrs.WN has finally had a call from the Opticians saying the frames that she asked for 2 months ago are in so both ladies have hightailed it to town even though it's chucking it down at present. Expenses incoming I suspect.
We had to chase the Van painter up at the weekend as he's still not been back. He's supposed to be coming back today but with the rain it might be aborted, again. Rang an Electrical Appliances store yesterday to see if they were open as its a small family run business. Yep. Good. 5 mile trip to nearby town and a sign on window "Back at 3 p.m." This was at 1.30. This type of thing driving me mad. There's worse things going on in life, I know, butโฆ๐ก

@Wherenext oops๐คญ Frustrating though. I have just been watching sentencing of the dimwits that cut down Sycamore Gap tree. What a pair๐คทโโ๏ธRaining here, on and off, so my planting plans were frustrated.

I was up early this morning and off out a nice 10 mile cycle some lovely scenery and it was nice and sunny. Came back to the van and relaxed for a while then we took a drive out to Norwich caravans for a look around and to get a couple of things. Then on way back found a nice little village so spent an hour wandering around there lovely little place. Back at the van now and itโs pouring down at the moment hope this doesnโt last long as we have been enjoying the nice weather here so far. Just getting dinner then might venture down to the bar for a couple of Doom Bars. Not sure of plan for tomorrow yet

We to are having showers from late morning. Like @Takethedogalong frustrating outdoor jobs. Wasn't planning on planting ๐ฎ, ground is to hard and dry, but the odd damp squib has caused growth in the blockpaving. It's been too hot do it recently. So took myself off to our local screwfix for a couple of bits - but lost my momentum on my return!
Had someone out this morning to sort IT issue on my laptop after the dog walk. Saying nothing but walking is slightly easier ๐คand it was a nice cool temperature, so we went a bit further than of late.
@Wherenext how frustrating I hope you succeed in finding the shop open before too long. Good luck with the painter too ๐ค
Lovely photos for lots of folks, please keep sharing.
TThe Midlands have just declared drought conditions - we await the restrictions.... I'm never quite sure if we fall into this area, but I now know for sure we don't fall in the South East ๐คฃ

Good news and bad news. Typical. Good news is that Mrs.WN didn't fancy the frames the second time around so no expenses, yet. Bad news is that painter didn't turn up until nearly 5pm and he's going on his hols for 2 weeks on Friday! More frustrating is that if he'd told me he couldn't get here until late we would have gone back to the Electrics shop. Again, in the grand scheme of things its nothing butโฆ.
Have you got anymore appointments for the feet @Bakers2?
Received 2 appointments for the Kidney Nurse in September and October. Calendar these days filling up with more and more medical appointments. Will have to ring them tomorrow and rearrange September one.

@Bakers2 good news on the feet, long may it last๐ค I managed a day in my Merrell walking sandals a few days ago, without my insoles, and was highly surprised. We had fun yesterday measuring my feet, length and width, as I have decided to try some Birkenstocks, I get fed up of being in shoes all the time. Hoping I can at least manage half a day in them, or if not they can become my โhouse shoesโ. Awaiting delivery now, from Germany.
@Francis you wonโt be lost for something to do in North Norfolk! If you like houses and gardens, then the NTโs Felbrigg and Blickling are both very good. Felbrigg has a fabulous Walled Garden, but Blickling is the more interesting house (IMO). Houghton Hall is good as well. Wells is an interesting place to wander around, as is Holt. Both have nice shops. The beach up at Wells and onto Holkham is absolutely beautiful, backed by a Pinewood Forest with some nice walks. Even a simple drive along the coastal road yields some fabulous scenery, and some of the best churches in the whole of England. One of the best is at Cley, tiny village, but the church is like a Cathedral. Thereโs a lovely visitor centre at Cley Marshes, which is the start of North Norfolk Wildlife Trustโs round walk, you are guaranteed to see plenty of interesting birds all along the walk. Not sure where you are staying, but if itโs Cromer or Incleborough Fields sites, then trains go into Norwich as well.

We are at the caravan at present. We had a day all planned but then saw the forecast of heavy rain in this area, and our planned day involved being outside, so quick change of said plan. We decided at the last minute to go again to Burford Garden Centre, as mostly indoors, OH treated me to a lovely lunch there, the place was packed, never seen it so busy, we did manage to get a table though and had a leisurely lunch. Made all the better when two young women sitting near to us finished and left, why on earth do some people insist on speaking so very loudly. I know some people may have hearing problems but this didnโt appear to be the case with them. We, and everyone else in the vicinity were treated to their whole conversation, they could be heard over everyone. I was good today and left with only one plant! However, I also purchased some olives, special cheese and crackers and treated myself to a jar of garlic jam.
As we were so close, 2 miles, we thought that we would call into Clarksonโs pub, The Farmers Dog for a quick drink, maybe in the garden as we knew the pub would be busy. We pulled into the overflow car park and it looked like it was the parking for a County Show or the like, just a very large field full of cars. So we changed our minds and gave it a miss. Glad we did as a short time later the heavens opened again, weโd have got soaked if sitting in the garden. We called in at Moreton on the way home to a tea shop we like and had a milkshake, probably much more enjoyable than the busy
pub. The family and all the grandchildren have been phoning and texting all day with birthday wishes, so itโs been lovely.4 -
@Takethedogalong I hope your birkenstock are successful. Please let me know. I don't do hot feet and have to have sandals. I've had vionic toe posts, flip-flops, a bit 'dressy' as they are wedges with built in arch support, for the last 7 years.. I've not found their sandals suit my bunion ๐ฅฒ. My current wear, continually, several pairs over the last couple of years have been Hotter walk sandals. The podiatrist was quite happy with the support they offered. Thank goodness! I've also had Joesf Seibel sandals, that have 3 straps all adjustable. Also approved with the proviso not continual wear.
@Wherenext I've a follow up appointment 11 August, 8 weeks after the last treatment.
I have gone back to doing the ball rolling, spiky one from the physio, as advised a good week after the last treatment. It's certainly not pain-free but more comfortable. I realise that it was niggling long before Christmas, but I didn't take any real notice. Oh hindsight is a great thing and I wouldn't have soldiered on if I'd known! He said it was chronic in the extreme.....

@Bakers2 - OH has Birkenstocks, actually bought at a Birkenstock shop inn Bavaria, so about 10 years old now, and still in great condition. She doesn't have problems with her feet though apart from a recalcitrant Big Toe but does swear by the shoes/sandals. Mind you she only wears them in Summer.
@DEBSC - Happy birthday to either you or OH, don't know which one of you your mention applies to. Share it by all means.๐

Yes indeed @nelliethehooker I did appreciate the photos from @Francis . All places I know and love. @Takethedogalong has beaten me to it with recommendations. So much to see and do in the area. If you have a head for heights and your knees are in good health I would recommend a climb up the tower of Cromer church and also a visit to the Cromer Pier Show if that is your sort of thing. Many moons ago I spent a lot of time in The Jetty Coffee Bar. It is still there but is now called The Jetty Cafe. The layout is still the same as it is a listed building. Sadly the juke box is no longer there. We also like a trip on The Poppy Line steam railway from Sheringham.
Such a frustrating few days for you @Wherenext I hope you get everything sorted soon
Happy Birthday @DEBSC ๐๐๐. It sounds as though you have had a good day.
We had an absolute downpour yesterday late afternoon. I was in the garden and got absolutely soaked. It only lasted about 10 minutes and was very localised. Today we have had intermitant light rain. I am not sure it has done the garden a lot of good but has hopefully freshened things up a bit.
I am glad your foot seems to be improving @Bakers2
1 -
Good to hear that your foot problem is getting less painful @Bakers2
All my best wishes @DEBSC it certainly sounds as if you had a lovely day.
@Wherenext I hope that you get what you want from the Electric store and the paint job can be completed before the weekend. Have you had any communications from your M/H dealer about your, now solved, gas problem?
It has rained here on and off for most of the day and at one stage tonight it look as if the gods were trying to refill the reservoir all in one go!๐ it is much darker tonight than of late and quite chilly too. We did manage to get a few short walks done in the dry, including a pleasant one around Ashbourne Park this morning, and then did a bit of shopping at Aldi, but we were quite disappointed with the number of items now not available there. It appears to no longer carry the number or variety of products that it once did.

@Takethedogalong and @milliehull thank you for the recommendations willl look them up we did have a pint Millie at the bar at the end of the pier yesterday sat outside looking out to sea lovely view we are planning on another visit there later in the week.
@wherenext took your advice today and got a bottle of ghost ship very nice had that in the van tonight although did notice that they have it on draught at the on site bar so will get another one tomorrow if we are in there3 -
We travelled from Cornwall up to Putts Corner (Sidmouth) on Monday. Met up with our youngest daughter and boyfriend yesterday ans after a bite to eat at the little cafe near Ness/ Shaldon, we thought we'd travel on a bit further and visit Paignton. Managed to get parked on the front, but a little too windy to sit on the beach. Instead we went for a walk on the pier - I don't remember the last time I even went near an amusement arcade..... ๐คฃ๐คฃ
......and can't believe who we met....
