Phew it’s hot! We aren’t used to this in Devon. It’s one of our granddaughters birthday today, she’s 20. We planned to go for lunch at a pub with a nice garden, her, her sister and a couple of friends and our daughter. It was just too hot when we got there, we couldn’t go indoors as it’s mostly conservatory. I stayed for a cool drink but I couldn’t take it for longer. I used to sit out and love the heat but I think it’s age and I’ve still got a large rash, which hates the heat, it’s going down but very slowly! I left OH with the girls and went back to pick him up later. Granddaughter is having a bbq this evening with her friends going over, so we said that we would go for a couple of hours when it’s cooler, to make up for me missing lunch, but we won’t stay late. OH bought an air conditioning unit for the caravan and we are using it in the lounge now, I wasn’t sure I’d like it as noisy but I’m glad of it today.0

Our thermometer in the shade saying 33c. But it's humid and no air,we've had breeze most days, so feels worse!
Those poor spectators and Wimbledon let alone the tennis players......
@DEBSC not turning, getting double characters everytume on this post 😢. Happy birthday to your granddaughters. Sensible to head for the cool, I hope it's better this evening.
@wherenext, no double character but still not red..… this weather won't be here for weeks, we just need to.adjust until it cools. I could live with this little activity 🫣🤣 for a bit! But food is needed, could be another scratch offering. Yes still getting warming here tomorrow.......

We are packing….again…….this time for our long planned trip to Islay with DD and family. Very hot here, though not as bad as down south, hopefully it will not last too long.
Will be an early start when we do go, it’s a 2 1/2 hour drive to the ferry, we are allowing 3 1/2 hours to cover any necessary stops.Just been out to Aldi and Waitrose to lay in a few provisions to take with us, supermarket car parks were unusually empty, presumably lots of people already away on holiday.
We have a large fan going in the lounge, which makes it more comfortable to sit there.

We did our Waitrose shopping early this morning. I wish we could have spent all day in there as it was nice and cool. It was like an inferno by the time we walked out to the car. By the time we got home and unpacked all the shopping I had no energy left so a day of doing very little.
Glad you had a nice cool drive home yesterday evening @Wherenext
Happy birthday to your grand-daughter @DEBSC. Shame you had to miss the meal at lunchtime because of the heat. It is our eldest grand-daughter's 30th birthday on Sunday but as she Is 7 months pregnant they are keeping it fairly low key with a family BBQ. OH is not coping desperately well with the heat so I have said we might just just pop over with her present and card and possibly not stay too long. We have organised a pregnancy massage for her at a spa in a rather nice hotel.

We got home about 1pm and OH went straight out to work - rowing up for the forage wagon.
I’ve rummaged in the freezer and found some buns I can use with a tin of corned beef for the workers’ supper. No cakes as we finished them off before we went away. And until the Aga is lit and got up to temperature (tomorrow) there will be no baking.Outside is hot like the rest of the country, but inside our house it’s freezing ! I’m wearing a thick jumper. That’s the advantage/disadvantage of very thick stone walls. And no Aga on since we went away.
Holiday ? What holiday!

our car says 36c here🥵🥵🥵 We had a lovely lunch though today…………
Sis bought us a floating table for the pool, we spent a lovely hour and a half in here. It’s so hot the water is heating up too much, so we are having fun trying to stop it having a “Brazilian Olympic” moment and turning green. We can’t even top up with cool water from today as Yorkshire’s hosepipe ban has kicked in😡

Having a long weekend in London with relatives from Italy. It's not as busy as I had imagined but it is so so hot.
2 -
We are also chilling out inside up to 37.2C today just too hot, did watering very early today and a few chores inside then a quiet pm sorting out a few things, we wind the two canopies over the Bedroom and lounge windows as well as curtains closed and shutters partly open and fans going on in the different rooms.
Off for a cooling shower then watch the Yorkshire show after they do not seem to have those sort of shows here except a big show near Paris
More work being done down the road re renewal of the waterworks so we may get it finished in the next two weeks hopefully but main holiday on Monday so another long weekend.
Have a good weekend folks and stay cool, we have a storm forecast for tomorrow hopefully.

Glad you got home in the cool @Wherenext we wouldn't fancy a 4 hr drive whatever the weather let alone one in these sort of temperatures. I agree with others @milliehull that you did the right thing in cancelling the meet up with your friends, there will be plenty of other times I'm sure. It is a shame that you have had to shorten your well earned break, @Goldie146 but hopefully you will be able to get away in the not too distant future. Grand photos but I don't envy you traipsing the Streets of London Corners. Hope your trip to Islay goes without a hitch, @KjellNN
Your pool looks very inviting @Takethedogalong just the place to cool off.

It has been another very hot day, perfect for getting the washing dried, but not for driving around in the car. It was 39 C in the car in the middle of the afternoon!! We just had a few short walks around by the site before lunch, and then I went for 1 1/2 hr walk up nearly to Robin Hood's Strides, the gritstone outcrop above the site. Canopy down after the sun dropped to the horizon in preparation for our departure in the morning.
The view is down to Youlgreave from above the site.
Robin Hood's Strides
The site's own dolman!!

Lovelty photos @nelliethehooker. Hope you had a good day in London, @Cornersteady with your friends from Italy.... and hope everyone else is 'enjoying the weather'.
We decided it was likely to be too hot for the beach today, so we went up to Healey's Cider Farm. We haven't been fo around 5 years, so thought it was worth another visit.... and, of course, we couldn't possibly leave without a few 'bottles'....

Oh flip, that didn’t work out very well. During granddaughters bbq party last night her sister was taken very unwell, ambulance called and rushed into hospital, straight into resus. As everyone but us had had a drink, not a lot but unable to drive, we offered to collect her and her friend, who was staying with them and had accompanied her in the ambulance, and take them back home when she was discharged. Her Mum had left shortly before this happened for a long shift, she sleeps over at work and is on call all night. So we had to step in. At 1.30 am the Drs decided they were keeping her in until today. This unfortunately is a fairly regular occurrence but usually it’s just a 6 hour stay to regulate her. So at 1.30 we set off and picked her friend up from the hospital and she stayed with us the night. Luckily the spare room is always ready. OH and friend have just gone to collect granddaughter who’s just been discharged and take her home. She just needs rest now. So not much sleep and both rather shattered now. A busy day planned as well.0

Oh @DEBSC what can one say. Heartfelt sympathy for all concerned. She is really lucky by the sound of it to have such a good circle of friends and at least that must be of comfort to you. Best wishes.
Nothing much happening here. Too hot to do anything outside. MiL actually being sensible (for a change😃) and has stayed sitting up in a cool dress in her bedroom.
I hope @nelliethehooker hasn't got far to go moving site today.

@DEBSC so sorry to hear about your grand-daughter. But it sounds as though she has a wonderful support network. Best wishes to all.
We had to go out to fetch OH's prescriptions this morning so while we were out we decided to go to our garden centre for a coffee. We didn't buy any plants this time (but a did buy a dress🤫). There weren't many people about - we presumed they were either at the coast or indoors at home trying to keep cool. We are now in our living room, with the fan going, ready to watch the Women's Singles at Wimbledon. It doesn't seem quite so searingly hot today but it is still very hot.
@Wherenext glad to hear that MIL is being sensible today.

More grand photos @DSB you are really mixing up your visits! @DEBSC, so sorry to hear that your granddaughter was taken in to hospital so suddenly, but pleased that she has been discharged and that she has such support around her.
@Wherenext glad that MIL is taking care of herself during this hot weather.
We were away early from the Bakewell site and had only a short, 20 ml, tow to our latest location, a THS overlooking Carsington Reservoir, arriving around 10:20. Lots of room, on two fields, and about 28 units here tonight. En route we were flagged to slow down by a couple of cars. We suspected a speed check, but it turned out to be a road accident involving a PSV, which was on the wrong side of the road, and at least one other car, which must have just recently occurred as the police hadn't arrived when we passed. It has bern another hot day but thankfully there has been a breeze blowing across the site which make it feel much more comfortable here. We took a walk, after lunch, down from the site to the reservoir, and were surprised just how low the water level is.
Looking towards the dam.
.Looking across the watersport centre, note the Great White Egret to the right front.
This sculpture can be found on the Stone Island Trail.

40 years ago today we moved to Devon. We were so busy unpacking and getting everything sorted so that our kids felt at home - it was a big move away from their schools and their friends - that we didn’t have time to watch Live Aid. Making up for it now, we are sitting finally watching it 40 years later. The Quo, Queen and now Bowie, brilliant. Just so sad that some are no longer with us.3
-
@DEBSC I often dip into watching Live Aid performances. We watched some of it while helping SIL packing to move from their house. They initially only moved a short way away, but are now in Bakewell. Sorry to hear about your GD, and hope she’s on the mend.
Still very hot here, too hot to do much at all to be honest, as it got up to 29c in the (shaded) house yesterday. OH managed a coat of paint on part of MG in garage, I had an extra day at home as Mum too warm to sit out, sleeping a lot, but well watered in between. She perked up later last night, I am off up there this morning. Another SIL lost their lovely little dog yesterday, had to have her put to sleep. Two months off 18 years old, so an incredible age really. A gentle, loving little part Patterdale. Family very upset. Our old lad is doing ok, he’s got a big powerful cycling fan on him 24 hours, spends most of day asleep, but wakes up enough to be a pest when we are watching TdeF in evening🥴 The pool is getting some use, I have had to put a sunshade over it.

@nelliethehooker that is very low for Carsington, but then we were amazed how low the Derwent Valley reservoirs were a month ago. Since February it has been very dry in this South Yorks/North Derbyshire area. The last reservoir built in Yorkshire was finished in 1936, and Yorkshire Water has a dismal record in terms of fixing leaks and sewage discharges. So clap trap from YW about investment is met with scorn around here. I won’t go into what the head honcho earns, and the divi’s to shareholders😡

Money admin day. Switching a bank account but the old account did have some extras in that needed new places or a thorough discussion with OH. Not very exciting but our circumstances has obviously changed in the last 18 months so some of those extras are no longer needed.
Too hot for a walk but did make sure everything got a good watering first thing.
Hope everyone being sensible in this heat.

A cooler day after a few hot ones, did have a storm yesterday pm and about 4mm of rain which is good for the water butts.
Had friends pop around this morning as he was having a few issues with sorting out a new french driving license and his UK has run out heyho anyway OH sorted the issue now got to wait until Tuesday to see what happens next as Fete Nationale tomorrow so a quiet day here although there is a huge firework display tonight over and around the Pont Valentre in Cahors have been in the past a couple of times in the past.
The rivers around here are fairly full at present but some departments are on drought alerts so far ok here although the ground is dry but have seen worse in the last few years.

Well we have arrived in Norfolk. Left home late on Friday afternoon and stayed at our regular CL at Longtown very warm but had the air con on in the car so not too bad just a bit warm for setting up. Left there yesterday morning again roasting but once in the car the air con done it’s job and we had a comfortable 2 and a half hour drive down to the club site at poolsbrook country park a site we had never been to before but it seems there is a lot to do in the area and the site seems nice so we may return only slight negative was when leaving there this morning caught out jockey wheel on the large speed bump on the way out and it has pushed a hole in the plastic casing over the hitch on the van it’s a large bump and as we went over (very slowly) we heard a crunch and that’s what it was anyway wouldn’t let it stop us going back. Left there this morning and came in to Norfolk which all in took us just over 3 hours to site. We have never been to Norfolk before probably the only part of the UK we haven’t been to so I was a bit worried about the road in but it was fine not as good as the motorways but still not too bad just a bit slower than what we are used to. Arrive here just before two and got everything set up including the awning as we are here for a couple of weeks. Very warm but a bit cloudy so after setting up we headed down to the on site bar and had a drink then decided to stay for a meal which was excellent. Back at the van now planning what to do when we are here looks like there is plenty to do
Hope everyone else has had a nice weekend

Oddly enough @Francis I've just had a pint of Doom Bar here at Globe Vale Holiday Park, Redruth. Thought I'd better have a pint before
moving on to Putfs Corner CAMC site tomorrow.
We've had some cloud here today and one or two little spots of rain 'in the air'.... I don't think enough to worry about though.
We've been across to the Roseland Peninsular today and have been to the beach at Porthluney neat Caerhays. The roads are a bit narrow getting there, but we usually have no trouble at all parking, and there's a beach cafe too... fine for a drink and a pastie....
Carsington is looking a bit low @nelliethehooker.... thanks for the photos.. lovely.... the last time we went up to Derbyshire, before Christmas, we stopped at the recently aquired Lickpenny CAMC site, which we really liked. Enjoy your travels, Nellie and others too.

@Francis are you at Seacroft by any chance? We stayed there many times when we had our caravan.
More great photos @DSB Looks like you are having a lovely time.
We had a wonderful time at our eldest grand-daughter's birthday BBQ. It was a pleasant afternoon for being outside in the garden - hazy cloud and a bit of a breeze. Her partner used to live in Australia so he is an expert at BBQs! Our daughter made a wonderful birthday cake for her 'big girl'

Glad you had a great time, @milliehull. The cake looks great…👍👍

@milliehull yeah Seacroft first time here we have had it on our list for years for a visit and this is the first time we have managed to get here. First impressions are really good nice site and the on site bar is a bonus. Looks like there will be lots for us to do in the area.
@wherenext will give those beers a try while here. @DSB great pics

Lovely looking came @milliehull and the perfect weather for a birthday bbq! Glad you had a wonderful day with your family.
More super photos @DSB The sight of that pastie has made my mouth water!! Hope you have as good a time at Putts Corner.
There are plenty of places to visit in Norfolk, @Francis so you should easily fill in your time there. Enjoy your stay, we always do in that part of the country.
II remember you saying just how low the level was in the Derwent Reservoir tda and it will be lower still now with so little rain in your area.
This has appeared by error and I am unable to delete it!!, @milliehull
