@DavidKlyne good to hear from you, frustrating for you, but you will get there in time I am sure. Once you get home, hopefully you will do more, as you think and can do more, so muscles will strengthen, etc……
@DEBSC naughty you🤭 but it must lift the spirits being able to get out and do a little bit, my garden (and Mum’s) has kept me sane these last three frustrating years. The rule for me is “if the sun shines, outside chores. Inside doing other things if it rains” Given our drought, the indoor jobs pile up🤣 We are avid sports fans, but can understand the TV frustration for some. I used to like tennis, but it’s not the game remember, I always enjoyed the finesse of players like Borg and his generation. Very much a power sport now in the main. I can watch women’s football, indeed have been to England games, but I shall drop in around quarter final stages. Cycling is our love, we have toured the World sat watching pelotons ambling, racing, skidding, crashing in all sorts of weather this year. We even sat glued to the Cyclocross in the Winter months. I would happily ditch our TV license and stick to watching Discovery Channel, as I find most of the five main channels so boring. Cannot stand soaps, reality TV, and the endless D list celebrities churned out to dance, ice skate, drive a MH, answer unchallenging quiz questions, etc…. The news channels are simply too horrific to watch, and we just get angry🥲

Great to hear from you David - @DavidKlyne - and that was quite a long post you put on - so well done with that. I can only imagine how frustrated you must feel. I remember, many many years ago - my mum had a stroke and she could no longer knit - which she loved. She kept at her exercises all day long - for ages and was so frustrated- but she finally got the full use of her hand and arm back and could get back to her knitting and she was happy again!
I am sure you will continue to make good progress and be back up and about again before too long. Best wishes from us both.😀

@Oneputt - Hope you enjoy the trip, about time too.😎 Sorry to hear of a recurrence of the health issue. I hope they sort it out soon though.
@DavidKlyne - Just thinking of posting asking about an update so your post was timely. You may well find that your "sense of normality" will be altered. Take heart that improvements in Stroke victims is an ongoing process for quite some time so readjusting time frames may serve you well. You'll start to improve a lot when you finally get out of hospital and start adjusting to the house again if my experience is anything to go by.
@DEBSC - You must be feeling better if you've managed to get yourself sent to the Naughty Step.😂
Our gas engineer returned this afternoon and fitted a new regulator. The hobs and oven fired first time. He found PTFE gel in the old regulator pipe. As he said, parts of it would end up in the pipework and/or gas connector and cause a drop in pressure or no gas getting through. He uses liquid PTFE. So we'll see how we get on but fingers crossed it will have solved the problem. He did say he'd never seen one in a brand new regulator before. Just glad it wasn't our fault.

@DavidKlyne good to hear from you, I was also thinking of a post about your progress. Pleased that all is going well albeit rather slowly for you, it must be frustrating but you can only do what your body allows at times. Fingers crossed that things will improve week on week, thinking of you.

@DavidKlyne good to hear from you hopefully won’t be long until your home
Picked up the caravan from the dealers today after it’s annual service went well no damp chassis everything passed so much for leaky Lunars we’ve had it eight years never had bother with damp. @richardandros after your experience I asked them to check over the spare wheel carrier but when I collected it today they said it was seized and they didn’t have time to look at it which I wasn’t too happy about. Anyway guess what I’ve been doing all afternoon. Rolling around under the van (too old for it) managed to get it off with the help of son but the wheel is jammed on to the carrier the bolts completely rusted tried for an hour to get wheel off no luck. Van has been serviced every year and we’ve never had the carrier out so I suspect it’s not been off since the van was neW and to be honest I always thought that was part of the annual service. Will get it off I’m sure but we’ve decided that we are not putting the cradle back on will just keep the wheel under the fixed bed we have space under there anyway and in the event that we need it it will be so much easier to get out. Anyway overall happy all we need to do now is put everything back in and get ready for the off on our main summer trip at the end of next week

DK…..good to hear you are progressing well, keep it up!
Today is our last day here, planes home tomorrow. My nephew will come to help with transport to the airport. He and his family came and had dinner here with us this evening, so plans were confirmed. Now just have to get on with the packing.

Good to hear from you @DavidKlyne. I also had been wondering how you were getting on. I know it must seem frustrating but you sound as though you are making such good progress. I hope you are able to go home soon which I am sure will also help with your progress.
Glad to hear your pooch is recovering @Takethedogalong It is so upsetting to see our pets in such distress.
We have spent a lovely summer afternoon on one of our U3A church visits to St Marys church Weldon in Northamptonshire. It is the only inland church that they know of to have a cupula. It is about as far from the sea as you can get! Apparently it was used to guide the huntsmen home from Rockingham Forest. It is still used at night but luckily no-one has to climb up the tower to light a candle these days, it is done automatically.
There is also a window presented to the church at the end of WWII commemorating the missions flown from the Deenethorpe airbase by the USAF 401st bombardment group in memory of those who did not return

Good to hear that you are progressing well @DavidKlyne and hopefully it won't be too long before you are able to get home.
@KjellNN have a safe journey home.
Lovely photos @milliehull the church looks a most interesting one.
It is good to hear that the Pooch is better now that the weather has cooled down somewhat @Takethedogalong
@Wherenext very pleased to read that the gas system seems to be working now and you will be able to get away soon. It will still be interesting to hear what the dealer has to say or what they will do following your emails.
Hope that your next visit to hospital is the last one @Oneputt Enjoy your trips away.
@RedKite it is good that your OH was happy with his checkup and has been given a prescription to see him through during your trip to the UK.
Your dealer has come up trumps @richardandros which will put your mind at rest when the cradle is refitted and you can get away again.

It has been another fine day, not too hot with a gentle breeze. We drove over to Hest Bank for a walk along the shore before lunch, and on the way back to the site had another in the Heritage Wild Life Meadow by the Crook of Lune. We did have an odd spot of rain this evening but not sufficient to damped the ground.
The view across Morecambe Bay to Grange with the Coniston Fells behind.
A couple of views up the R.Lune from the Wildflower Meadow

@Francis - I should get back onto your dealer - checking the carrier IS part of the service - as confirmed by my dealer - and here is the service check sheet from our last service - it's a generic NCC Approved Workshop form - so your dealer should be working to that standard - just like mine was (ha ha!).

Lovely photos again @nelliethehooker Such wonderful views.
I am sorry to hear that you have to have another lump removed @Oneputt I hope all goes well. Enjoy your trip away.
I hope your problem with your camper is now resolved @Wherenext How has your dealer reacted to the latest development?
Safe journey home @KjellNN
It's a pleasant morning here so far. Sunny, pleasantly warm and with a light breeze.

Today is the start of our caravan packing ready for our summer jaunt - Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Northumberland (etc), the Outer Hebrides... and Pembrokeshre! Well that's the plan... punctuated with visit back home.... and all dependent on whether Carol get's 'the call' for her hip replacement operation, which means things could change. Meanwhile our son and family moves in to the house - I'll be leaving him a list of jobs!! 😀😀
Then.... today is our Abbey Choir BBQ, tomorrow is the Brewood Singers Concert, so still plenty to do.... things never seem to stop!!
Thanks for all the photos, @nelliethehooker - enjoy your travels... and everyone else who is out and about. Still keeping @DavidKlyne and @Oneputt in our thoughts. Safe journey @KjellNN. It's probably a bit far, but should you ever want to come and visit us at Polesworth Abbey @milliehull, you and the U3A would be most welcome. (The website could do with an update - the choir page has gone missing... 😢

I hope your problem with your camper is now resolved @Wherenext How has your dealer reacted to the latest development?
I haven't tried it today @milliehull but we also hope it's now fixed. We've been out since early this morning getting some "us" time at our local nature reserve. It's blowing a bit of a hoolie out there at present so I'll test the gas tomorrow. I don't want to contact our dealer until I'm absolutely convinced that the problem has been rectified. Your church outing sounded good.
It was quite pleasant at Burton Reserve this morning. We were pleasantly surprised at the variety of both birds and insect life to keep us occupied, the best of which was a wonderfully named beetle, "The Hogwood Bonking Beetle"🤣 I kid you not. More commonly known as the Red Soldier Beetle. Photo attached. There was also a "Footballer Hoverfly", so called as it brings a bit of bling to the insect world. Wouldn't stay still enough for a photo. I bet you didn't know Entomology could be such fun?😂 Most people just pass the greenery by but we find it interesting. Maybe it us that's weird?😅Answers on a postcard please.

hope the issue is finally sorted @wherenext
Finally got the spare wheel off the cradle so the wheel is now stored under the bed in the van and the cradle in the garage won’t be putting it back on until we come to trade the van in. Been raining and windy here all day so we have spent most of it putting things back in the van that we had taken out. Will give it a wash tomorrow but weather not looking promising for the weekend.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend

Thank you for the invite @DSB I am sure we would all love to come and visit Polesworth Abbey but it is a bit far for us sadly. We all have to make our own way to the designated church so about 25 miles is our limit. I hope you enjoy all your travels and that they all go without mishap this year.

We have always called those beetles “Love Bugs”🤣 But your name is funnier.
Cannon Hall for us today, a walk, a picnic in the grounds, some horticultural therapy. Pooch enjoyed his roll as well…… ver6 windy though, but nice and warm.
Two beasties!

@Francis pleased to see that you managed to separate the parts. We have just had our caravan serviced and looking at the check list there is no mention of a check on the carrier so I will have to investigate the situation when we get home. Fingers crossed that I don't have to remove the spare before then. Should anything officially just have to contact Mayday and get them to fix the problem.
Canon Hall is not elsewhere we have visited, @Takethedogalong I will have to check it out for the future. Like the photo of the "two beasties"!
It looks as if you are going to fully occupied during the summer @DSB Hope all your trips for to plan, but I am sure you will relieved if Carol gets the call and you have to cancel some if not all of the sites you have booked.
Glad to read that you were able to have a good day out at the Reserve @Wherenext you certainly did see lots of interesting wild life. I hope that everything in the The Van works well when you try it out.
It was fine all morning and for much of the afternoon although it has been rather breezey, but we have had rain from around 5:30 this evening. We moved down from near Lancaster to near Blackburn, to another of our favourite CLs where we will meet up with our daughter tomorrow.

Hiya @DavidKlyne . It sounds like you’re making significant progress, I can certainly see a difference between your first post (following the stroke) and now. Keep up the good work 👍
@DSB , that sounds like a great trip you’ve got coming up, enjoy 👍
@Wherenext , I hope your gas issue (ooh er) is resolved, it’s a right pain when things don’t work as they should, worse still when one has made several attempts to get it sorted. At the end of our last trip, the grill in our cooker fell down. Unusually, I couldn’t find the securing screw. That’s rare, normally there are at least one or two screws lying around 🙄 As a result I have plenty of spares, but of course, none of those fitted, Sod’s Law.

I'm actually thinking of putting it on my car roof rack @Francis - along with the car spare wheel that's already there. Like you, I think the best place for that rack is in the garage!
0 -
@nelliethehooker yes give it a look over when your home ours was seized took hours and a lot of hard work to get the carrier off then get the wheel off it.
@richardandros when we got our current Volvo I discovered it didn’t come with a spare wheel just that glue stuff which is useless especially when towing a caravan around. Ended up buying a full sized wheel and tyre and now keep it in the boot which takes up a bit of space obviously but better than being stuck at the side of the road with no spare. How manufacturers think it’s a good idea to not provide a spare wheel is madness in my opinion

@nelliethehooker you would enjoy Cannon Hall. Some nice walks, lovely Walled Garden area, Hall to visit, there’s Cannon Hall Farm, with its farm shop, farm animals adjacent, and a big Garden Centre as well, plus numerous eatery options. It’s managed by Barnsley MBC in the main, so it’s just a car park fee to visit most of the things of interest. We paid £5 for over 4 hours, up to 2 hours s just £1. It’s rural, not close to Barnsley town, not far from Wentworth Castle (NT) and Pot Hamlet, another little gem.
I am on Mum duties today, she’s fast asleep at the moment, so I am busy watering and putting in more plants. It’s very warm here, despite a stiff breeze. First stage of TdeF on catch up tonight👍

@Takethedogalong - the highlight programme isn’t on till 11 tonight! I blame the darts on before it. I’ve set it to record but may have to forgo it as we’re off holiday tomorrow and it’s too late to stay up.

We had a relatively uneventful trip home yesterday, and have spent today recovering. We had to be ready to leave where we were staying at 11.00 as my nephew had an appointment in town at 13.00, so we were rather early at the airport, found some seats, checked in our big cases, then ate our lunch sandwiches.
The plane was a little late in leaving, and on arrival we were all bussed to some other arrival point, for some unknown reason, and had to then rush to the international departure gates. We were OK as we had booked “special assistance” so had our own bus, a wheelchair for OH, priority at passport control, and taken via the staff shortcuts.
DD and the boys however had to make their own way, and encountered a big queue at passport control. They arrived at the gate with 5 minutes to spare, hot and flustered. Then the next plane turned out to be delayed anyway. Bumpy approach and landing at Edinburgh due to strong winds, some delays at passport control, but eventually made it to where DD had left the car. Quiet on the M way to Glasgow, so were at DD’s house just after 21.00, dropped them off and were home by 21.45. Straight to bed and slept till after 10.00 today. Nice to be back in our own bed.
Supposed to be visiting our son tomorrow, dentist on Monday, then need some shopping, and more packing, before we and DD & co all go to Islay on Saturday.
DD arrived home to a broken washing machine. As it is 20 years old it will be replaced rather than repaired. Just as well she has not returned with a lot of dirty clothes as the new one will not arrive until Thursday.

Raining here, thank goodness as the water barrels were empty and looks like I’ll need water again next week if the forecast is correct. OH has put his foot down and ordered an air conditioning unit, a portable one for our caravan and maybe to use here occasionally as he says he needs it.
Reading about caravan spare wheels reminds me of a trip we once took to Longleat site. We were returning home towing an Elddis caravan we had for a short time (it was nothing but problems and trouble) two of our granddaughters, who were quite young at the time, were with us in the car. Suddenly the spare wheel, which was under the caravan on the carrier, came bouncing along the road beside us! Thank goodness it finally came to a stop without causing any damage, so dangerous. From that point on they always travelled in the caravan.
We are painting today. The small passageway that leads to the downstairs loo and our garage. I bought a tester which said cream, it was white! So yesterday we went to B&Q and, because we wanted to get on with it I chanced it and bought a full tin, which looked perfect from the colour square on the front. Opened it up - bright yellow! We found a tin with some white emulsion left over from something and mixed it all in but it’s still much more yellow than we wanted. Our Homebase has closed, they were always so good for paint, not keen on B&Q. So I’m repainting the white doors and OH the walls. I have Status Quo on cos it helps me paint faster. 😆1 -
seems like everyone is busy today @DEBSC that was something I’ve often worried about no chance of that happening to ours though it was seized solid lol
NIce warm day here today so I have been out cleaning the caravan including the roof ready for the off near the end of next week. The roof wasn’t actually that dirty as I had cleaned it just after Christmas and we don’t tend to pitch under trees. Still warm so thinking of cooking a couple of burgers on the BBQ for dinner tonight

We subscribe to Discovery Channel and watch it via TNT Sports, so we can watch the whole days racing at a time(s) that suit us. Sadly, this year is the final year this wonderful race is going to be free to air, it’s all going behind a paywall from now on. It’s cost effective for us, as since before Xmas, just about all we watch has been cycling in one form or another plus some other sports. We had already got cycling via GCN cast from our iPads, but managed to secure a reasonable monthly fee before TNT took over. We watched the team presentation last night, from Lille. I shall miss Ned and David Millar though, they are both interesting presenters. Big money in cycling nowadays, it’s going the way of far too many other popular sports, sadly. We watched British Cycling’s coverage of the National Road Race Championships, last week. Absolutely dire to be honest, poor commentary, poor on screen information, the coverage didn’t give any information about riders, area of route. A boring watch. French and Italian coverage of their Nationals was far better.

@Francis - my Touareg didn't have a spare either - just that stupid glue stuff. It's a Euro 6 engine and the Adblue tank is in the wheel well in the boot - hence no spare. Since the small print in the Mayday contract says that you must have a serviceable spare, I did the same as you and bought a full sized wheel and tyre - and then spent a small fortune on the roof rack to carry it. At least, if I get a flat on a Bank Holiday Sunday afternoon - when it's most likely to happen🙄 - I won't be stuck.
Edit - just realised - hit the 3k mark (still a long way to go to catch up with @Takethedogalong !🤣
