What are you all up to

The day started off looking like rain again but has stayed dry and sunny at times, with quote a strong breeze. Both OH and I had appointments this morning with different hygienists and while my teeth were fine OH requested a filling which her hygienist did following the cleaning, as she is now also a trained dentist. Then it was a walk with Flyte on the old playing fields which are now a wildlife meadow, and there we saw lots of Purple Orchids.
After lunch we took the caravan to the dealers for it's annual service and had a further walk on the local common on the way back home.

Busy last couple of days with a couple of visits to the GP for routine matters. OH has meantime been replacing the Van carpet with the tiles we bought a while ago. She's done a smashing job, not quite finished but we're home tomorrow.Funnily enough she didn't trust with the Stanley knife saying I was just about trustworthy with a Jigsaw. Fair enough. Off to local hospital tomorrow for kidney consultation. They come around every 3 or 4 months now instead of 6 or 12 months. C'est la Vie.
Had a quiet afternoon as MiL at craft class. She was at physio yesterday. Back to herself.
Where are you off to @Bakers2? I must have missed your post about travels. If it's a break then I hope you enjoy yourselves.

What a day, yesterday turned out to be!! We left the C&CC site at Dartmouth at 8am, hoping to miss any traffic - especially on that very narrow bit of the A1322 just outside the town. However, as soon as the caravan TPMS logged on - the alarm sounded showing one of the tyres was at 26psi instead of the required 43. Nowhere to stop so I carried on and fortunately, the tyre situation didn't get any worse. However, when we got to that narrow bit - we met everything coming towards us - including an enormous lorry!! Managed to get through unscathed although I dread to think what my blood pressure was like.
Driving very carefully, with a constant eye on the tyre monitor, we managed to get to Exeter Services where I re-inflated the tyre and, much to my surprise it maintained its pressure, more or less all the way to Broadway - just had to put some air in a couple of times - but I maintained a 50mph speed all the way, just in case.
Because of my mobility problems at the moment, I decided to call Mayday recovery out to change the wheel (see my other post on the outstanding service they provided) although I felt a bit guilty about doing so since it would only be a five minute job. I knew there's be no issues with the underslung carrier having seized up because every year the van has been in for service, I specifically requested that the sliders etc be greased. Ha ha!!
After an hour of struggling to get the totally seized carrier from the van - then having removed it completely only to find that the wheel was not only rusted into the carrier but was totally flat, I suggested we try to get the original tyre repaired. Quick trip across the road to the garage and they mended the puncture in 15 minutes😀
All back on now and ready for the trip home tomorrow.
Not a day I want to repeat anytime soon.
I will be in contact with our dealer in the very near future☹️

Oh dear @richardandros !! Sorry to hear about the tyre problems. To be honest, I wouldn't feel guilty about calling MayDay/ GreenFlag. Personally, I also wouldn't dream of changing a wheel these days, on the car or caravan. As far as I'm concerned, that's part of what I have the MayDay cover for.
I have to say, I've always found MayDay cover very good.... even when we broke down in the Isle of Lewis with Harris (Outer Hebrides) and had to be recovered back to Tamworth!! (Fortunately, we weren't towing). That involved them supplying us with a hire car and recovering the car over a 3 day period (it was a Bank Holiday W/E, and, of course, they have legal restrictions how far a driver can drive without taking a break!)
Good to hear that lots are getting out and about in the caravan/ motorhome. We have not been able to get out because of Carol's mums TIA, and being available for care, plus a round of concerts/practices and various hospital appointments (hopefully leading up to Carol's hip replacement - whenever we get 'the call'.
Anyway, I'm just off out to Sainsbury's..... they have the 25% off wine offer starting today.... Although it's a bit dangerous, I usually "buy in bulk" these days, and last out until the next supermarket has a "25% off when you buy 6 bottles" offer. They all seem to be doing this sort of offer from time to time, these days! 🤣🤣

@richardandros oh my another horrible tow for you. That's 2 in a very short period of time. Personally I'd break a match before your next journey. Wishing you a safe tow home.
Builder left about noon on Monday, should be back in today for finishing touches. That's plumber, electrician and builder in a small 8ft 6inch square space. I hope they get on well 😀. So when we return I can not only do the holiday washing but decide where to store everything in the, newly fitted out, existing laundry room.!
After the builder had left we had lunch and loaded the car, couldn't get into the cottage until 4pm, and headed to Snettisham. Lovely cottage in a nice, much larger than expected village. I know this cos the dog and I explored this morning. I didn't get 'lost' but had to retrace a bit as I came up to the A149, recognised the buildings, so knew where to head - sadly no footpath either side and long grass verges, 50mph road and most definitely doing that! So we found an alternative route via a footpath among the village streets. Decidedly humid. So I've already exceeded what I should be doing, stepwise at present, with my foot. 🤞fingers crossed on that, at least I can now get my foot to the floor. Still need to be down wind of me. I am going to make the last strapping stay in place as long as possible
Now having a cuppa in the courtyard garden before deciding on the rest of the day. Won't be much, this is defo R&R break. Tried both pubs in the village, one ok, one lovely. Won't be trying the Michelin starred one 😮. But we have to try the cafe - but that's only 9-3, but looks good. We lunched at Sandringham yesterday and had a walk.
@Wherenext yes away for a few days to see how it goes. So far better than expected 😀
Let's hope all those who are caring and waiting with health issues are managing..

@richardandros we used to carry our spare caravan wheel inside van on long journeys. Thankfully only needed it once. It lived under the van when on site. Glad things got sorted for you👍
@Wherenext good to hear MIL back to her usual self, hoping things all ok with you as well.
@bakers, enjoy your holiday!
We had a fabulous night last night, took us back to over 40 years ago, and was just as much fun. Lincoln Castle to watch Sting, he is still a superb performer, full of charisma, and the music was magnificent. Mainly The Police’s huge hits, but plenty of Sting’s solo stuff as well. A wonderful venue, it was all very well organised, we got parked half way up the hill, so just a 10 minute climb up, rather than a lung buster. Nice food as well inside the venue, not overly expensive.

@Takethedogalong - looks like a great night out - and fabulous photos😀
@Bakers2 - hadn't thought about that - but yes - what with yesterday and the trip to Whitby I'm beginning to wonder if someone's trying to tell me something!! Had to smile about your builders. When we 'rebuilt' this house, 12 years ago we had them for 7 weeks while we camped out in what was essentially, a building site. At one point there 12 of them - of various trades there, and all either of us seemed to do was make tea!! Needless to say, the kettle gave up the ghost just after they left🙄

Looks like a good night @Takethedogalong. Glad you had a good time.

Hi @Bakers2 - there's a really good cafe in Dersingham, just down the road. It's by the garden centre so you get two for the price of one! We always call in there when in the area.
Quite a good consultation this morning, insofar as nothings got worse. Consultant cleared up a few questions I had and will liaise with the Stroke consultant about a change of medication. All in all a good result. It looks like at this stage that the new med I was started on in February is having a stabilising effect on the kidney decline.
Hope the B.P. has returned to normal @richardandros. What was the cause, a nail?
Sounds like a super night @Takethedogalong.
1 -
@Wherenext - pleased that things went well with your consultation, this morning. Let's hope the situation continues re your new meds stabilising things. Yes, I think BP is better today - having had a day doing not much. Still mulling over in my head the wording of the letter the MD of our dealership is going to get, once I have got back home and sorted out the 'evidence' of their incompetence.😉 Yes, it was a nail - very small one - looked like a bit of stiff wire poking out through the tread. Explains why it was a very slow puncture. My first instinct was to pull into the first services we came to and call out Mayday - but with what transpired, it's a good job we didn't. There wasn't a garage literally across the road who could have repaired the tyre in 15 minutes!!

It was a great night. Sting said how beautiful Lincoln was, he had never been before, the stage meant he had a fabulous view of the Cathedral, audience had their backs to it. Photos of stage a tad blurred as I zoomed in……….
Cathedral, glowing in the evening sunshine.

@Wherenext glad you had some good news today.
Not much happening here just now weather not been great so far this week got a car show to go to this weekend and also need to empty the caravan out as it’s going in for service next week hoping that won’t throw up any issues as we head off on our main summer trip in a couple of weeks

Refections on Wastwater before climbing three Wainwright's in one day. First Middle Fell at 1908 feet, then across to Seatallen at 2266 feet then to Buckbarrow at 1410. Just under 7 miles with mist and sunshine but just a fantastic day.
Taken from Middle Fell.
Scafell Pike, Mickledoor, and Scafell from near Seatallen.
Coming down from Buckbarrow.

@Wherenext almost bought one of those A40s a few years ago but didn’t have anywhere to store it at the time nice little cars

After Saturday's afternoon tea for OH's birthday the celebrations continued with a chinese takeaway with the family on Sunday and then on Monday (his actual birthday) he and I went out to a favourite pub in a nearby village for lunch. Today I went to a meeting of the Cathedral guides. I always enjoy these meetings as we dont often get the chance to all meet up. This morning we had a very interesting talk from the Bell Captain. I took lots of notes as quite a few of our visitors have questions about the bells. It has been a very hot and humid day today with quite a lot of cloud cover.
Enjoy your holiday @Bakers2 We are having a few days in that area next month so I am interested to hear of any nice places to visit that we havent yet been to.
What a wonderful evening out @Takethedogalong . I am a fan of Sting and in such a beautiful setting as well.
I hope you had a good birthday @Wherenext . You have a good few years before you catch up with OH (and me 😁). Pleased to hear that MIL is recovering.
We had some very sad news from youngest son yesterday. The father of one of his oldest and greatest friends has just died. He was a vicar and a canon and was such a kind and compassionate man. He conducted the marriage of our daughter and SIL and christened some of our grandchildren. He also helped us through the deaths and funerals of our parents. He will be much missed.

Pleased to read that you have had a good report from your consultant @Wherenext I must take a weight off your mind.
Grand service from Mayday and the garage opposite the site @richardandros after your harrowing tow up from Dartmouth. You deserve your day of relaxation today.
Looks as if you had a super time at the Sting concert @Takethedogalong and I really like the photo of the cathedral.
It sounds as if you have had a busy and thoroughly enjoyable few days @milliehill (sorry no red). Enjoy your next trip to Norfolk, and although there cannot be many places you have not visited before it is a grand county to explore and find somewhere new.
@Cornersteady More super photos and good to see that most of the rain had passed through.
It has been a mainly dry day, quite hot at times when the sun came out, although we have just had a short shower of drizzle. I spent much of the morning clearing the front of weeds as well as taking Flyte for his walks while OH was baking cakes ready for our next trip. We picked up the caravan, after its service, this lunchtime and thankfully there was nothing untoward found. Managed to get most of the bits back in once it was back on its "pitch" and once we re-cover the seating all that should need doing is giving it an outside wash before the final load-up and then we will be heading off again.

Is there anybody there? It is quiet on here today.

Evening @milliehull. We had a visit from the man sent to repair the scratch on the Van, made if you recall by the dealer when moving it, today. I thought it would be quite a quick visit, about an hour maybe but it ended up taking him 4 hours. The scratch was only about 4" long. He has to come back on Monday as well. At least we're not paying for it. Left OH in charge whilst I nipped to town for a meeting with my GP.
Afternoon spent gardening and food shopping.
It drizzled a bit this morning but got quite warm this afternoon.
Yes, it is rather quiet.

Evening @Wherenext. Good to hear a friendly voice. Hope your GP meeting went well. It was good to hear that your kidney consultation went well the other day. Good job you are not paying for the repair to your van!
It is very hot and humid here.today and forecast to get hotter over the next few days. After a busy week I have been catching up with jobs at home. Youngest grandson's (in N Ireland)15th birthday today. We phoned him this evening and he is coming over here with his Dad for a flying visit next month.
Hope everyone is well.

That was some time for the repair to the scratch @Wherenext hopefully the guy will complete the job on Monday to your satisfaction.
It has been a busy sort of a day not getting an awful lot done. We managed to fit in a dry walk in the park between heavy drizzly showers before OH's visit to the hairdresser and some shopping at Aldi and Tesco this morning. After lunch OH recovered the caravan seating and we loaded more into the caravan. It stayed fine, dry and sunny, at times, this afternoon but it has started to rain again. Hopefully it will be dry sometime tomorrow and I can give the caravan at least a quick clean outside.

Still here @milliehull, and reading all the posts. It does seem quite quiet at the moment - perhaps folk are busy. Just about to ring the Drs about holiday repeat prescriptions and then off to get some food for our U3A Choir 'picnic' this afternoon....

fab afternoon yesterday as we went to school to watch the grandtwins perform in the concert Wizard of Oz. What a great musical production, will be remembered for a long time.
Mrs One is camping this weekend with her cub group, the weather looks fine for her.
The downside of this weekend is I’ve had to cancel my trip away do to an emergency hospital appointment. Fingers crossed that all ok.
Have a good weekend all

I’m still here as well😁 We had a pool maintenance day and a bit more garden DIY yesterday, routine check on pool water quality, needed a bit of adjusting, but sorted quickly, then OH decided he was going to build a proper composting area, from some old pallets, so that kept him out of mischief for a couple of hours while I cut grass and did some more planting up. Shop at Aldi, then more gardening. We are sort of in event limbo at the moment following Sting, but our big family wedding is this coming Sunday, so today will be checking our outfits.
This is mine, rocking a bit of a vintage look, my Sis made me the gorgeous silk velvet shrug and I have a nice hat, shoes and handbag plus some nice jewellery to finish. The shrug has taken some making, but Sis and me got there in the end. OH has gone for a lovely Italian designed three piece suit in an unusual, but not OTT berry colour, so we come as a matching unit🤣
We booked a Winter music event as well last night, another trip down Memory Lane, Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells. The man himself won’t be there this time, but the musicians have got very good reviews, so it will be something to enjoy in February at Sheffield City Hall, where we first saw MO many years ago.Pondering on tickets to see Simple Minds at Halifax Piece Hall, but it’s difficult because of our pooch🥴

Hope your appointment isn't for something serious @Oneputt. Fingers crossed for you
@Takethedogalong - The ladies approve, says it will go very nice with "The" Hat.
Decided that as MiL had a couple of days doing not much on her holiday after her fall that we would take her out for a shopping spree and lunch. We went to one of her favourite places for clothes, The Tweedmill near Denbigh. A 2 storey former cotton mill with franchise clothes such as Klass, Pavers etc. A favourite destination for coach parties on short breaks at seaside towns along the Welsh coast. It should really be sponsored by Ableworld.😂
I disappear for a long coffee and a read of a newspaper. Trouble is finding them again. No point asking an assistant if they've seen a little Grey haired elderly lady pushing a Rollater. There's usually dozens of them wandering around.🤣 Still, she really enjoyed it, although how you can spend 45 minutes just in the shoe department beats me.
Lunch on the way home at a pub with spectacular views over the Clwydian Hills was extremely good. The day made up for the time lost.
It looks like being a grand weekend weather wise so I wish everyone an enjoyable one whatever they are doing.

That sounds like a wonderful afternoon watching your grand twins in The Wizard of Oz @Oneputt. You must have been very proud. All the best for your hospital appt tomorrow. I do hope all goes well.
What a lovely outfit @Takethedogalong. I absolutely love the shrug. You will be the Belle of the Ball. I hope you have a lovely day.
Sounds like a grand day out for MIL @Wherenext. Dare I ask how much she bought? 😁.
Not done a lot of interest today. Just some supermarket shopping this morning and some 'light gardening' this afternoon.
2 -
@milliehull - "Just" the 3 pair of shoes, some delights from the Farm shop area, a new Scarf and almost another Gilet but was talked out of that by OH. She's disappointed that Tesco have stopped stocking her favourite light tipple, Edinburgh Mixed Gin and Rhubarb, they come in 25cl cans. So I've just had to order them in bulk from Edinburgh Gin themselves. I might need one myself soon!😀
So, all in all, a typical day at the Stores.

Sounds as if it was a super afternoon watching the twins @Oneputt and I hope it was nothing too serious for you to visit your doctor.
Looks as if you and especially the ladies had a super day out @Wherenext I guess MIL has gotten over her fall now.
OH thinks your outfit looks lovely, @Takethedogalong I am sure both of you will look very smart, fingers crossed for good weather on Sunday and that you all have a great day.
We had mixed weather this morning with periods of rain but it has been drier this afternoon and evening although rather windy. We managed to get more stuff into the caravan between showers and after lunch I cleaned the outside of it, Bobby Dazzling it after our evening meal. We have been home for a week now and all appointments done so it is nearly time to head off once again!😁
