@Wherenext ouch on the fingers😫 burns are awful, so painful.
We have a Mini😁 It’s my “going to Mum’s” car, a nice little Clubman, a two door with the extra half door (or Dog Port as we call it). It’s supposed to be going to make way for the return of our old Jeep Wrangler, but I’m not sure I want to part with it to be honest, brilliant little car. We had an original Mini for a short time as well, not one I was over fond of, but it was getting on when we bought it.

Lovely photo @Takethedogalong - pleased you had a good day yesterday - it's also unbearably hot here as well, although a nice breeze off the sea has recently developed which is helping at bit. It was 26 degrees at 0915 this morning when I took Meg out and we didn't stay long. She has spent most of the day on one of her two cool mats around the house and, for once, seems to be being quite sensible😀.

LLovely Photo takethedogalong, glad you had a lovely day.
It's 31c here, decent breeze and clear blue. Our lounge, blinds and curtains covering the windows for more than a week is 28.5. That's with the windows open pulling the breeze in, causing havoc on the window cills 😮
Car valeter arrived 0730, due 0800, I wasn't surprised. Another great job. So Dora and I set out as soon as he was settled. She wasn't interested in going into the meadow, so we turned around for home after 7 minutes. She's not laying on any of her cool mats, but is indoors in a through draught.
I went to Aldi for a few supplies, I've been running cupboards and freezer down, but I didn't buy much only essentials. Very pleasant in store but I knew the purchases would require attention in the house.......
Moved from the (cool) 🥵 lounge to the back patio now it's in the shade and I intend to stay here. 37 years ago I had to walk back from an antenatal appointment in similar heat. He arrived 0400 the next day - too hot!
Still having issues with whether I'm a robot.... I've tagged Rowena on that thread

That looks a lovely venue @Takethedogalong, glad that you had a nice time. We went to my nephews wedding last September, over 100 there and there was only me and one other lady wearing hats, it doesn’t seem as popular as fascinators these days. We are very glad that we came back from the caravan as it’s 10 degrees cooler here than there and hot here! I was gardening in the shade but even gave up on that. My last appointment with radiotherapy today, by telephone, I explained about my very sore patch of skin and was told not only to keep out of the sun but also out of the heat, which wouldn’t have been possible in the caravan. I’m sitting in our shady lounge by an open window with the patio doors open the other end so a pleasant breeze cooling me. I wouldn’t have wanted to be at Glastonbury or Wimbledon in this heat. Although I very much enjoyed watching Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood on tv - two old geezers, rocking it - brilliant.2
-
Yes we really enjoyed watching Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood at Glastonbury as well @DEBSC . We are now watching Wimbledon in our cool living room with the fan going. Take care of yourself in this heat. Our thermometre is reading 31 degrees outside temperature. I wish we had a cooling sea breeze @richardandros. It is going to cool down as the week goes on according to the weather forecast.
That looks a beautiful wedding venue @Takethedogalong So glad it all went so well.

Day started off fine this morning as we went to town to do various things. MiL was looking a bit peeky when we left so was asked not to go for a walk and just take things easy. Tesco's afterwards. It was a shock moving from a lovely warm outside to Ice Station Zebra inside the store. They're fixing the roof in part of it around the fresh meat area and it literally has you in goosebumps and having your breath taken away. Regulars had brought coats to put just for that area. I kid you not.
We started to pack the Van for a 2 night away on Wednesday but once again the gas supply has failed. Now at the end of my patience, so a final email has gone to the dealer, sort it or be sued. Had to cancel the 2 days. Might have cancelled them anyway as MiL not coping with this heat very well. She voluntarily went and lay down on her bed, something that never happens. Will have to keep an eye on her.
Just the one finger still bandaged. Will give it some air tomorrow.
Hope you are coping a bit better being at home @DEBSC. I asked Mrs.W when her next screening was as Tesco have the screening machine in the Car Park and she thought it might be next year. Got home to an appointment for her for later this month. Strange how often that type of thing happens.

@Takethedogalong Glad you enjoyed the wedding yesterday.
It has been upto 38.6C today and now going down slowly it was nearly 30C by lunchtime phew just too hot and we have all the shutters closed and windows as the air is awful outside and no cool breezes just hot, fans going in every room except bathroom and kitchen and it is still 29.8C inside and this morning it was 25C inside yuck, I get up early 6am and open all windows with insect screens pulled down just to try and get it cooled down also wind the two sun canopies we have on front of the house which helps.
Our friends swimming pool was 33C and she said it was too hot she prefers around 21/22C and theirs is a in ground proper pool and it will be even hotter today she tries to go in early in the morning, they have family coming over 11th July for a few days son and family from South Africa second son from Poole Dorset and his wife is from Thailand and her brother is coming over from Southern Ireland so that will be a busy few days and she hopes it will be cooler to use the pool. Take care folks in this heat and your animals as well.

Warm here but not as warm as the rest of you seem to have it it’s been about 19degrees today.
We also have a little Mini it’s a convertible one 15 years old but decent condition and didn’t cost a lot we got it from a friend of second oldest son just use it as a run about rather than using the Volvo all the time. Had a few of the old minis over the years great little things but the new shape ones do have more room

@RedKite 33c is not cooling. Ours is tepid at the moment, so it’s easy to get in, but it’s not cooling enough. That’s very warm for a proper pool as well. Our pooch has had a couple of cooling showers, much to his disgust……clean water🤣
@Wherenext its hard for the older folks, saps any energy. I hope MIL has a decent night. And you must be absolutely fed up with your vehicle, it’s let you down so many times now. Good luck with it, however things go.

Like the photo of the Priory @Takethedogalong and it sounds as if you had a super day at the wedding.
Sorry to hear that you are having more problems with the Van, @Wherenext and had to cancel another trip away. Has the guy been to complete the work on the scratch? Hope that you are soon able to get the bandage off your finger, it must have been a painful experience.
It has been hot here today, but nowhere as high as you have had @RedKite . We had a walk along by the canal again today, this time from the Ings Road car park at Bradley near Skipton, visiting the Polish Airmen's Memorial.
I took a walk through Garstang during the afternoon and came across this sculpture on the banks of the R.Aire.
We are now down to 15 units tonight, 2 of which arrived today just for the night.

Like many, we’ve had to endure high temperatures, around 30c here today. As the sun went down, it turned very clammy, going to be a restless night tonight 🙁 Was thinking of having a BBQ this weekend. Looked at the forecast, 20c and rain, wouldn’t you know it. No plans as yet for this coming month. We’re away with our daughter and grandchildren early August, 9 nights, just outside Newton Abbot, looking forward to that 🙂

Sorry to hear you're still having problems with the van @Wherenext - I know how frustrating it can be. Let's hope they can get it sorted once and for all.
I've made some progress regarding the seized Alko spare wheel carrier etc (see my post re "Mayday - Outstanding Service"). I sent a very 'curt' letter to the MD of ALV on Friday - he was actually at their annual rally all weekend and managed to speak to the relevant members of his staff over the weekend. I got a response on Sunday where he admitted liability and said that someone would contact me the following day to organise them coming to collect it. In actual fact, at 1030 yesterday, I got a phone call from a caravan transport company who were due to deliver two vans to ALV from this area. The guy arrived 30 minutes later, removed said offending carrier and wheel and set off with it up to Cumbria. Although ALV clearly are at fault, I can't criticise them at all regarding their response and hopefully, it should be back on the van by the end of the week.

Thanks for all the lovely comments. Back home now but a few holidays in the next few weeks and months.

Waiting on a door fitter to come. We need a new side door and ordered it a few weeks ago.
Had an appointment with the Kidney nurse this morning, supposedly to have the final inoculation jab against Hepatitis B but her assistant didn't arrange for the vial to be at the hospital for her to do it, so I'll have to make a return visit next Tuesday. The visit wasn't wasted though as she topped my Iron up intravenously. Yippee.
Had an interesting reply to my email to dealers. To paraphrase "it's end user error". My, and I've been doing it for 35 years as well!😂 I have an independent engineer calling tomorrow, someone we've used before.
2 -
@richardandros pleased to hear that you have had a very positive response from your caravan dealer. Have you any plans for getting away once the carrier is back and fitted?
Hope your door fitted arrived @Wherenext You do seem to be having ongoing problems with your medical services, but at least you did get your iron top-up! It will be interesting to find out what your independent engineer has to say, then whether your dealers takes any notice of his report. Hope you get it all sorted out soon.
We were nearly the last off the rally field this morning, as we only had a short drive down to our current site,v a non-facility CL near The Crook of Lune. It has been a little cooler today, with next to no sunshine and a few short sharp showers, which hopefully have cleared the with a bit.

@Wherenext you must have been steaming after that email😡 Give ‘em hell.
We had a terrible night last night. Our poor hound was really struggling with the heat, and just couldn’t settle. He had us up every couple of hours yipping with distress poor old lad. OH gave up at 7.30 and stayed with him downstairs. He has a fan cooling room, and had had plenty to drink, but he seemed to be struggling to breathe. Appetite fine though, and bodily functions ok, but it took while around 12.30pm until he finally fell asleep. Being a Labrador, he woke up for his tea, on the dot, but he’s fast asleep again now. Just hoping for a better night, it is much cooler thankfully. Fingers crossed he stays ok now🤞🤞🤞Mum thankfully is doing fine, Sis does a superb job of looking after her, and wanted me to stay at home.

We’ve not had the very hot weather, and I expect it will be cold and wet next week when we go away. It usually is. We’re making a start on getting the caravan ready. It as last used in July 2024. We meant to get away again but never managed it. I’ve got my checklist out - just so I can tick some things off. OH has charged the battery (used for something agricultural) and got a new gas bottle (used for the bird scarer).
Hopefully everything else we need will be in the caravan and I just have to sort out food and clothes. And drink.

Sorry to read of Pooch's distress last night @Takethedogalong. Just as distressing I should imagine for the both of you. Hope you had some cooler weather today. There was a cooler NW wind, quite strong, today to take the edge off it here.
The Independent Engineer duly arrived this morning. He agrees we are doing nothing wrong. We've had both Propane and Butane cylinders and connectors not working this morning and then all of a sudden one of them worked. He thinks its the regulator as not many other moving parts and a short run from bottle to oven. No visible kinks in pipes that were visible. He's seeing if he can get a new one for tomorrow. In the meantime a short but sweet (not) email sent to dealer.
@nelliethehooker - Doorman arrived mid afternoon yesterday. Here for just the 30 minutes, all done.
This morning taken up with the engineer. MiL had a lunch date with some of her friends at a regular haunt of theirs so we went Invention hob and cooker hunting. Exciting eh?😃Just need to find someone competent and qualified enough to take the gas hob out and replace it with an electric one. The existing electric ovens/grill are 20 years old and in need of replacing. We've tried 2 local recommended companies but they're both too busy. At least we roughly know what is out there and what we want doing. I'm beginning to hate cookers!😂

@Takethedogalong Hope pooch has recovered from the heat, it was very cloudy here today only 25C lovely.
Managed a few outside chores today after yesterday when it got to 40.2C and a busy morning with OH's car in for service and me in the other car and did some shopping as well very early 9am and busy in LeClerc but car ok except it will need another small job plus OH asked the garage re a small ding repair oh no problem we do all our own repairs so booked in for 4th August for 3 days as we are away end of this month for a short birthday break, was glad to get home yesterday and we both felt quite weary even though we had plenty of cold drinks etc so once shopping put away a quiet afternoon inside and I slept for nearly 8 and half hours last night.
@Wherenext Hope you get the van sorted and sort the new cooking arrangements out as well and glad MiL is ok after her fall and still enjoying her days out with friends.
@Goldie146 Hope you have a good break away next week.
Hopefully our heatwave is over as we have a few more chores to do outside garden work for me and car and caravan chores for OH but he has 3 month check up with doctors am Thursday and sounds like a locum this time but he has everything prepared blood pressure checks etc.

@Takethedogalong very sad to hear that the Pooch has been struggling so much with the heat, which in turn makes it very hard for you both too. Hope that he feels somewhat better now that you have cooler weather.
Enjoy your trip away @Goldie146 and fingers crossed that you don't have to come home earlier than planned, as has happened before.
Good to read that it has started to cool down somewhat @RedKite and that you have managed to get some outside jobs done and to get out and about in more comfort. Hope there are no unpleasant surprises following your OH's check up.
That was swift work by your "doorman" @Wherenext and that your I E is able to source a replacement regulator and so can get the cooker in The Van working properly. Hope you are able to find a local firm who can replace your home cooker, although it will have to be a very special one who are up with the very latest inventions!!😁😁
It has been cooler here today too, dull this morning after rain over night but it brighten up after lunch. We did a few walks from the caravan along old track instead of heading out in the car. It was warm enough to sit outside this evening for a while even with a steady breeze blowing.

Thanks for the kind wishes about pooch, he’s still with us, a lot better now it’s cooler here.
@Goldie146 have a good break, even if the weather isn’t brilliant.
@Wherenext I blame the chef for your cooking travails, he needs sorting🤣 Seriously, hope your van gets sorted quickly.
@nellie (it’s always the third tag that never works…..spooky😈)loving the photos from your latest tour.@RedKite we are gearing up for TdeF watching here, just hope the temps don’t spoil things. Looks like most of Europe is having heatwave problems. Our honeymooners (wedding last weekend) are currently in Florence, think they had power cuts yesterday.
I had a an hour or so cleaning our pool yesterday, the heat means it needs a bit more maintenance. I am back to Mum’s today, see how she is faring in this heat. We have a nice but breezy day thankfully. Tiny bit of rain yesterday, it barely made the ground look damp.

@Takethedogalong All geared up here sorry for the pun for the TdeF and as you said it is going to be hot in some areas.
It still is cooler at the moment and we might get some rain Sunday evening through Monday lunchtime which will be good but we have got water butts (cuves) and nearly all full as I have cut down on plants in pots and will cut down again this Autumn also a some of the larger planters will be gutted and replace with drought tolerant plants and others moved but need a lot cooler weather for that just hope nursery across the field will have the plants I want and the planters have a water storage area in them which helps only the snails get in them heyho.
@nelliethehooker OH all ok with 3 month check a very nice young male doctor and he has given him a 4 month prescription as we will be in UK for when he should be seeing the doctor again. Great to see your photos again now you are away enjoyed the wooden sculptures photos.

Sorry @milliehull and @Takethedogalong as you’ve said you like watching your sports. But, I’m glad that I have, 3 now, good books to read, because with Wimbledon, ladies football and Tdef all on the tv there is nothing for me, who hates watching sport, to watch! Sorry again @milliehull but I just don’t get watching tennis, they hit it or they don’t, sorry. It’s a good job that we are all different.
I crept out into the garden yesterday and scraped off the top layer of earth and grass ready to make a flower border much bigger as it’s so congested. I was working in the shade. It says it will rain on Saturday, after which I’ll turn it over when the earth is softer. OH was napping when I went out. The area is behind some taller plants and I was kneeling down, OH finally found me at my chore and I was ordered in like a 3 year old, then a book was placed in my hand 🤭 He then reminded me that the area I intend to dig in holds the long ago buried bodies of many and various Guinea pigs, rabbits, and hamsters, I’m going to have to dig with caution. Our resident woodpecker is at present having a good wash in our bird bath, never seen him doing that before.2 -
Yesterday - it poured down here - nearly all day - and was actually quite chilly. Today, however the sun is back out again and it's a pleasant 19 degrees. At least the pond is looking a bit better😀
Good job you're not here @DEBSC - TV is permanently tuned to Wimbledon since Ros is a tennis fanatic and I just get used to it, every July🙄.
Good news from the dealer - they're replacing the spare wheel carrier with a new one and Jon (their Chief Tech) has kindly wired-brushed the spare wheel and resprayed it. He'll be bringing it back to refit it next week. Although I'm still extremely annoyed that they hadn't done the job properly in the first place - they have held their hands up and done everything possible to put things right - unlike some dealerships, it seems.

Just a bit o an update, although not a lot has changed. Still here in re-hab and receiving a lot of physio. Progress is being made.i can walk with the aid of a tri legged walking stick, initially with someone in attendance but I am free to look after myself in my room i can now manage stairs both up and down. Next week they are going to assess the home environment in terms of what extra equipment might be needed and once that is in place its possible I could go home (can't come soon enough for me!) But of course we do have to consider the impact on others, particularly Margaret. Still an open question about driving, currently in discussions with the DVLA so that could be some time away. Not even sure I would be comfortable driving at the moment? Physio's even talkingabout me walking unaided, not quite so sure about that! So things do seem to be moving I'm the right direction I am inclined to want to rush things but I am not sure that is helpfull?so we are a long way from normal but positive progress is being made,I image its going to take a while before any sense of normality returns?

So pleased to hear that you are making good progress @DavidKlyne. Things do sound positive but I understand you wanting to get there faster, it can be frustrating. I’ll pass on what a Dr recently told me that, ‘one day you will think, actually I do feel better, almost back to normal, just give it time’. Her comments did help. I hope that you continue to improve and soon return home.1

Finally getting 2 trips away over the next 2 weeks, excitement rising. First trip to Hampshire to visit family and second tip to Buckinghamshire.
Hospital appointment yesterday determined I need yet another lump removed, 3 years since the last operation, so just never know
1 -
@DavidKlyne Really pleased to hear from you and it sounds like you're making good progress. It must be extremely frustrating for you, hopefully the necessary adaptations, if necessary, can be carried out soon and you'll be able to go home.
All the best for your continuing recovery.
