My Mum & Dad spent their honeymoon in a hotel on Princes Street in 1944.

When they passed over I found a receipt for it in their belongings and took it to the hotel, which is still there!

Beautiful day here in North Wales. Plenty done and no injuries to report following use of new staple gun, which if you know my prowess with DIY is a minor miracle. How did I manage it? Got Mrs WN to use it instead.

Breakfast on 5he decking on sun, about 20c, catching up with these posts.

Day to ourselves,  off to pick free blueberries, if there's any left - real saving for daughter as everyone eats at least one handful a day. So far we've picked a couple of buckets and frozen them. Washing and sorting takes as long as picking so done when we don' have little helpers.

Getting in the swing of grandparenting but had both on our own at the park for a couple of hours yesterday after daycare, OH was a wreck trying to have eyes in the back of his head 😂😂😂. I have to say doing things one handed returns very quickly when you have a toddler grasped in the other 😂😂😂.  We have 2 afternoons of early realise from day care while mum doing condensed hours, one day with couple of hours with elder, almost 4, granddughter a real delight 😇,  they'e both great 😇😇 and tomorrow with daughter and the girls.

Interesting post Goldie, I'm a country girl and didn't know about twins either. One learns lots on this thread

Edit I posted because I thought I'd been logged out - turns out I hadn' 😉

Listening to the Tui bird singing from within the campsite daily, our favourite nz bird looks and sounds, do check it out. And to say it's nice to have Daniel Corbett still doing the weather here on TV Z.  Still as dapper as ever, he was doing it when we were over last 18 months ago.

Stay warm folks. Lovely to hear there are signs of spring - I miss that.

Yes brue currently nz 13 hours ahead. Varies over the year 11 in English winter and 12 for a couple of weeks when the clocks change twice a year. I can convert English to nz time without a thought but not so easy the other, rang my mum by mistake late a night about 10pm not a happy bunny 😲

Glad to hear folks are recovering. Enjoy your break Goldie.

Must close now blueberries calling, wherever you want to go in nz needs a car. No rail service to speak of buses are improving but not a service like ours 😉.vehicles all large and fossil fuel plastic used abundantly and freely. Seems odd with the country's promotion of natural ways.

Further edit Oneputt grandchildren are great parachuting in is hard but getting there 😂😂😂

We went back last year and, yes you're right, it's a lot different than when we lived there, although our old house was still there, which was nice, hadn't changed too much.

The Willesborough windmill was still there although the junior school our kids used has closed.

It has been a day of 2 halves. First thing this morning I had a phone call from a very dear friend to tell me that their much adored only grand-daughter  (and only grandchild) died last night. She was anorexic but with the help of wonderful medics and a very supportive and loving family it was hoped she would recover but sadly she got pneumonia and didn't have the physical strength to recover. She was a beautiful girl and a straight A student who was planning to study medicine at Edinburgh university. What a waste of a young life. Absolutely tragic. Then this afternoon our lovely eldest grand-daughter who is doing a post graduate teacher training course rang us to let us know that she had an interview this morning at her first choice of primary school and has been offered the job starting in July. She has battled through a few up and downs to get this far and we are so very proud of her.

Lovely to hear from you Bakers2. We use 'divide and rule' when we have 2 of the younger grandchildren to look after. Mr H watches one and I watch the other. Yours sound good fun. Enjoy.

Such sad news for your friend, millie. I can remember when an excellent student in my last year group died in similar circumstances. Such a tragic waste of a young life.

But good news for your grand daughter - I used to visit our local primary schools as part of my year head role. I had nothing but admiration for the hard work those teachers put in - very much more difficult than secondary teaching. Good luck to her! smile

I  understand  how  you  are  feeling  MillieH,  its  a  time  of  very  mixed  memories  round  here  as  well.

Never  sure  if  I  seem  cheerful  it  will  offend  others  in  the  family  who  are  feeling  down,  but  if  I don't  we  might  all  get  even  lower.

So    its  time  to  look  chipper  even  if  I  don't  feel  it.

    Thanks for the link brue.

Tui is also a beer here but some folks prefer Waikato Draught or cans locally.

Blueberries picked, 2 buckets full. Last week on warm rain this week in rather warm sun 😲. Just rinsing them, while having a cuppa on the decking.

Clothes wash in. Will enjoy a shower very soon.

Been busy catching up friends here too so nice to have a day without calls at set times.

Bought an unberella buggy, for ease, NZ $24 about £13 give or take a bit includes sunshade too. If it wasn't so hard to post photos I'd share with you. Beautiful huge allium in the midde  of most roads.😉

    Plus 1

Milliehull terrible news it's a b***er of affliction.  I know someone who suffered ntil their late 40s, heart attack got her, it weakens so much. Tragic news and devastating for family. Thoughts are with you and them.

Much nicer news for your own granddughter.

All our lives are filled with so many ups and downs.

Surprised to find a hedgehog as we walked to reach the blueberry bushes. Happily routing for grubs but didn't seem perturbed by us. They are imported predators so are being humanely culled in the native bush so I expect its days are numbered,  along with rats, stoats and possums that are eating the eggs of the ground nesting birds as well as other local wildlife.

Released a trush from the netting covering other blueberries whilst picking. We had remarked that the birds don't seem to bother with blueberries and then we spotted it 😲.

We've had a fantail fly into and out of our cabin since our return - it didn't leave a calling card thankfully. Not sure what folklore is about visits into dwellings - will check it out. Seems important news is coming 😉
