Four candles! He needs rear lighting if visibility is bad. wink

In poor visibility you have to be visible from front and behind. The driving lights only operate at the front, you will have no rear lights.

    Beat me to it CY.

Powered by the battery, Yertiz but included in the 99 mile range.

If you use the side lights, the rear red lights will come on to, as bright as if you used dipped headlights and the daylight lights would remain on too, although they might dim slightly to save power.

Do dipped headlights use less power than non dipped Malcolm?

I think full beam and dipped probably use the same amount of power. The side lights would use less, I would think. The daylight lights would certainly be accounted for in the 99 mile range as these cannot be turned off to save power at any time whilst the engine is running.

I think with Electric cars, some sensible compromise on unnecessary use of headlights in the daytime, might be necessary, unless you want the car to suddenly run out of power whilst doing 70 mph on a motorway! At that speed, with headlights on, you'll be lucky to do 45 minutes of driving before running out of power!

So, not only do you want "free" electricity to power your car you want a change in the traffic laws to accommodate you and your Smart car??

    Will it do 70 mph?

There is unlikely to be any compromise that affects safety Malc. The only comprise can be yours in pulling over, parking in a safe place and calling breakdown should you run out of power.

The daylight lights are sufficient to be seen in daylight by anyone with normal eyesight. Anyone who doesn't have the legally required minimum eyesight should not be driving!

Having a lazy day today, first in 2 weeks with having the family to stay. Granddaughter back safely at boarding school yesterday afternoon all happy to be with her mates once again.

Time to catch up with a bit of admin and a few other jobs over the next few days then I think we will go away in the MH for a week or so before half term.

OH is at his men's shed this morning so got the place to myself for a few hours, lovelywink

Weather seems to be picking up a bit, clouds clearing and not so dark, yesterday was a lights on all day.

So when I drove over the top and down into Leek on a September holiday with the caravan and visibility was around 50 feet sidelights would be fine then Malcolm? Also when I was driving at 3pm a few days ago and due to weather conditions it had darkened early I could have left my headlights off.

And there was me thinking that somebody with 20/20 would have problems in seeing me.

Hope you enjoy having some time to yourself TG. I'm just about good for a walk to our local shop today, neither of us are 100% yet but visiting dog is arriving later which will require some extra energy. smile

Won't be able to listen to the in-car entertainment in the winter. The satnav is going to use a little bit of juice as well. All that reprogramming to find the next drop location unless Malcolm has "the knowledge".

Wonder how much juice the screen heater takes? How long can you hold your breath for Malcolm - to the nearest 15mins?

Our 3litre VW Touareg returns better mileage than Malcolm's Smart!

Maybe a combination of a heavy right foot and running the engine to keep warm between deliveries?

We have heated seats in our Smart, lovely in winter, that would presumably be out  of the question in an electric model.

I think we will stick with the one we have for a while yet.

Enjoy your day Tammygirl.  As lovely as it is having family to stay it is also nice when you get the house to yourself again. How lovely that your grand-daughter is so happy to go back to school. It must be awful to have to drop off children to boarding school if they are not keen to go.

So glad you are feeling up to a short walk brue.  It sounds as though you have had a really rough time.

I finally went to the GP about my painful knee this morning and as expected I have to go for an X-ray tomorrow morning and he has given me some exercises.  Back to see him in a month so we can discuss the extent of the arthritis.  We are both hoping I can ward off an operation for a while longer with the anti-inflammatory tablets and the exercises.  We are off to a church visit with our local U3A this afternoon in a little village called Tansor. We haven't been able to go for a few months for various reasons so I am looking forward to catching up with the rest of the group again.

Does that mean that the HSs on the other nearby CL sites are no use, or is it that you have not investigated them?

We would generally avoid sites that have no HSs at all, having a heavy van of a similar size to yours, and would want to be able to book a HS on a CL where it is not all HS.

Facilities are not a problem as we generally use our own.

    Strange things you see:

On our way to our posh hotel yesterday, we passed a man walking down the road with a swan tucked under each arm.

We had a wonderful dinner last and a good sleep in a very comfy bed. And after a sleep in, though I did still wake up at 5:00, a full breakfast (porridge - topped with whatever you wanted including whisky!) - and then cooked choice, not from a help yourself buffet, but cooked to order and brought to our table.

A short walk, then back to the hotel, reading and looking out onto the balcony to sea. When the sun comes round we may wrap up and sit outside.

I could get used to this!
