RO, I will speak my mind .... as always smile

I suspect that you have had reports from people who want to prescribe what folks post and wish to proscribe topics of conversation that do not interest them whilst talking about things that do. Not something that I greatly appreciate.

The warning about personal information is fine and is also a topic brought up on here from time to time. I believe that folk decide what info to share.

Not sure what counts as 'off topic chats' given that the title 'What are you all up to' is pretty much a catch all which, for me, also includes 'what is on your mind', 'what are you thinking of doing/buying' etc..

As for 'Be Kind' I feel that comments on this section are far from unkind. Has anybody complained that they personally have been treated unkindly or do they simply feel that somebody might have been?

I presume that 'off topic' does not refer to 'the pointless page' however as that would simply be pointless. wink

On our way to our posh hotel yesterday, we passed a man walking down the road with a swan tucked under each arm.

And there was I thinking, only yesterday, that we never see men walking down the street with swans under their arms anymore.

My word, I wonder what on earth he was doing with them and they are not always the most agreeable birds. I'm assuming they were both still alive, Goldie.

    Enjoy your pampering.

Rowena thank you for your post ,I appreciate that at times post are not what today's "snow flake society"would like to see or read (their choice)

The problem with any forum is with so many posts about what are you having for breakfast and its raining here ,the threads that really should be separated get "lost" and if not read when first posted ,can be taken out of context, thus in some posters eyes are not what was intended

I have just had to look up at the meaning of snowflake society.".lacking resilience and taking easy offence." That has nothing to do with the sentiments expressed in Rowena's post.

As far as I am aware this is just a general social chat thread and I hope it can continue in the friendly manner that brought it here in the first place. As Rowena suggested if you have an ongoing off topic debate or discussion you want to pursue it can be started elsewhere.

As far as I can see Brue it is general social chat and is friendly

Easy T sums up my thoughts pretty much, for what it's worth.

Perhaps the title thread is too broad and covers too wide a subject matter?

"What are you up to" can almost mean anything at all from cutting your toe nails to polishing the cat.

If a new thread needs adopting it's this one, IMHO.

Yertiz, the original thread title, lost when the forum was updated was along the lines of "what are you doing today." It was a simple heading based on peoples daily news and activities...smile

I also agree with ET's sentiments. What are you all up to is just that. As long as what is being discussed is within the forum guidelines, there should not be any enforcement of topics, or how long they can be discussed for.

As for starting another thread, there was one on EV's and it was closed, so presumably if another was started that would be in breach of said guidelines.

That's quite funny, because when I was typing my reply I put "what are you up to today" and then had to check the heading on this one, which obviously says "what are you up to"

So much for the forum update, eh? wink

We have been staying home and keeping warm, dull and misty here too.  OH still  coughing but cold much better, I am pretty much back to normal now.

The cot mattresses we ordered arrived this afternoon, much more quickly than we had expected.

Time now to get out the sewing machine and start making some fitted sheets.......not me......OH does the sewing.  I have made a pattern for the pram ones as the mattress has rounded ends, the cot bed is a more sensible shape.

We have a pile of used but still good flat sheets which belonged to MIL, so these will be up-cycled to make sheets for the  cot  bed and the pram.  Sheets for a cot bed seem to cost more than for a regular single bed!!

Had a lovely walk on the beach, changed our mind and went to Amroth near Tenby, not many there as it was so cold, but it was wonderful to be in sunshine.

I hope you find the new car will be as good a buy for you as you thought your current car would be, and that the fuel allowance remains the same and not reduced because it's an EV.

My son is moving to Brighton to work, he has a job that he can cycle to as he can no longer afford to travel to his current job here,

It sounds so relaxing, we stayed in a post hotel a few years to celebrate an anniversary, we felt like royalty, so nice to order breakfast. Enjoy the rest of your break.

He was heading away from the canal towards either a vaguely farming activity centre or an upmarket development of lodges round a pond. Or maybe just home to roast them

When I had young engineers or trainees working under me I used to say to them 'when I call you a damned fool (not exact words) don't take it too much to heart as I reserve such terms of endearment for people I like - it means that we re still on talking terms' laughing

" We  passed  a  man  with  a  swan  tucked  under  each  arm "
