They said they would phone me when available. I've not heard anything yet! No longer needed now as we have other sites booked.

What is your current site like, have looked at it as a possible site to stay at in the summer, but the reviews are very mixed.

You mean Alderstead Heath, Redhill, cariadon. It's a great site. It has a rural feel to it yet at the same time being close to the M23 and M25 as well as within easy distance of London and of course all the facilities such as toilet block, laundry room etc.

It was a non-stop delivery evening at work yesterday until about 15 minutes before my shift was due to end. Then the orders suddenly stopped. So the manager offered to let me go 15 minutes earlier. An offer that I was glad to take up being tired and mindful of the long commute back to Redhill.

Day off today but back to work tomorrow evening. Never mind! Roll on payday next Friday! It will mean a few hundred quid more in the bank which will do me nicely thank you!

So how many delivery miles and how many drops Malcolm ? It seems to me that the more drops you make the worse the overall reward. The more the business makes the less the employee makes

I should really keep account of the mileage for each shift! The Lancing deliveries are about a mile each way, sometimes less. The Shoreham deliveries are longer distance but I often get two drops in one go to addresses that are close to each other in Shoreham, Lancing and Worthing.

As Malcolm says it's a nice site but, for us, spoiled by the number of "workers" that were using the site when we stayed there last year.

I wrote a review to that effect.

Of course, we may just have been unlucky but we wouldn't go rushing back following our experience.

It's very handy for a lot of places and we did cram a lot in while we were there, but didn't find it particularly "peaceful or relaxing" on site.

Indeed you should Malcolm if you are claiming additional personal allowance/tax relief based on mileage.

Mileage. If the mileage allowance that your employer pays you is less than the HMRC rate, you are able to claim the balance. The first 10,000 business miles, according to HMRC, can be claimed at a rate of 45p per mile. Over 10,000 miles the allowable HMRC rate drops to 25p per mile.

I think my OH must be feeling slightly better today, the fishing rods have appeared in the kitchen! If we can get through today without one of us running up a temperature we'll definitely have turned a corner.

Helen, hope your OH feels better soon, stay in the warm, it seems to be getting colder....I can feel the north wind on our back door!

Having recently had the driveway modified to more easily accommodate the MH, I've just finished painting a white line along the edge of the step outside the front door. Hopefully nocturnal visitors will be less at risk of going base over apex as they exit in the dark.

Hope your OH feels better soon Helen and that you don't get it. Good to hear that your OH feels well enough to get his fishing rods our brue. Two of our grandchildren are 8 this weekend.  Our grand-daughter is 8 today and grandson 8 tomorrow.  It is also Jessie's (the dog) 1st birthday so an action packed weekend!!

You have probably been, but what about Exmoor area? It certainly ticks a lot of boxes, gorgeous moorland, lots of history and mystery, lovely seaside villages and towns on the perimeter, plenty of NT and other places to see, and a decent chance of some warm weather. We stayed in a cottage in Dunster and absolutely loved it around there. Used Burrowhayes Farm Site as Minehead Club Site couldn't do all the nights we needed. Minehead is nice, got a beautiful park, interesting shops. We would have been bored with Dulverton Sites, as although pretty, D is only tiny, and limited.

I haven't mentioned Northumberland or Yorkshire, as sure you have been recently?

Further away, but outside of school holidays, Yellowcraig is superb, especially with a dog. Easy ride into Edinburgh on train, again loads to see and do, and North Berwick is a gem. We know a good CL nearby as well, as an option.laughing

Bored with Dulverton, I have to disagree. Lovely town and dogs are welcome in most places. Tarr Steps up the road, what's not to like. wink

Yes I mean Alderstead Heath, are the toilets clean, as some reviews said that they were old and dirty, does  it still have workers on site leaving early in the morning, another complaint, is the dog area suitable for proper exercise,  is there pavement from the site, trees or open area that's what I wanted to know.

Ttda and Cariadon  thankyou for the ideas smile  We had looked at Exmoor and Dulverton, as we really love the area, our other choice is West Wales, New Quay area, would really love to see the Dolphins. smile It's difficult to choose.

Would love to visit Scotland but only have 7/8 days, so a bit too far .cry

Don't think I could get bored with Dulverton either , as there are so many walks from the village, and as you say very dog friendly. smile

We've woken up the past couple of mornings to the pitter-patter of tiny feet ....yes we've got a mouse (or mice) in the loft! surprised

So Mrs M has decreed that we must have a complete clear out up there, and what a load of rubbish we've stored up there over the years. I'm just back from taking a mountain of paper and  card to Sainsburys for recycling. Amongst it was several years worth of my old worked A level papers. Haven't looked at them since I retired 7 years ago, but it's countless hours of work dumped in just a few seconds. I cried!! wink

Next job is to start on shredding bank and credit card statements dating back well into last century. I think it would have been easier to move house!

We've been vaguely thinking about where to go this year. We can't actually book anything until we see how the year pans out. We aim to be getting our first silage cut early in May (depending on the weather) then 2nd/3rd/4th cuts will follow every six weeks or so. Though last year as the weather went downhill from June we mowed for 4th cut on 5th November.

Then there's shows - either us showing, or my son judging, or visiting as President of The Shorthorn Society.

But maybe, there will be 6/7 days free. I fancy Scotland, but as a change from New England Bay (where we've been going on and off since 1976) - the locations used in Local Hero. But when I looked into it - the beaches were filmed on the west coast and the village on the east!

So, all up in the air.

We visited New Quay last year, very nice, despite the never ending rain. We found a lovely CL not far away, HS, EHU, clean dog walk good for first and last! We had never been into this area before, loved it, will go back. But oh the rain, just our luck! Some other lovely places around there.

(Dulverton is lovely, but we would find a week there a bit too long, would be driving out to other places)

    Goldie,

You  could  always  ask  on  here  for  volunteers  to  go  to  wherever  you  want  to  go.  Then  they  could  report  back,  with  pictures,  on  how  great   a  time  they  had, how  the  sun  always  shone,  it  only  rained  lightly  and  always  at  night.  Oh  yes  and  the  music  in  the  local  inns  ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, ,,undecided

We do get quite a lot of dry sunny days, and a bit of rain. I love the Cardiganshire coast line. My favourite place is Aberaeron followed by Cwntydu.

We loved Dulverton when we stayed there  few years ago. Lovely little town and so much to see and do in the area.  I think they have refurbished the loo/shower block since we went.
