Glad you had a nice time with your son and his girlfriend Helen. Lots of standing water in the fields when we went to our daughter's this evening. The fields are awash. I hope we get some dry weather soon.

Sorry Guy's and I realise that this post is really going to get me on the receiving end of some incoming. But is this really the best subject that "General chat' can come up with? Because for me its one of the real reasons that I shipped out for a much more interesting Forum some years ago.
When it was first launched, many years ago now "General Chat' was vibrant, full of interest and controversial. Today it is almost terminally boring. The most used thread appears to be 'What are you all up to?" Are we really saying that that is the most stimulating and interesting thread we can manage? Oh dear, then I can probably understand why so many people find this forum so boring.
OK Ive had my say. I am now donning the battle bowler and descending into the cellar! But really, - am I expected to be excited and motivated by the level of interest engendered by this thread?
And before you all get too tempted to say that I don't know what I'm talking about, Ive been caravanning since 1977 and was an early member of this Forum. It has really lost its Mojo since the early years!

There's a huge turnover of drivers where I work but I don't think it's because of the managers. I think the rate of pay has a lot to do with it. I remember talking to one of the other drivers who was leaving and I remarked to him that it was going to leave us short of closing drivers. So he replied that he would stay if they doubled his rate of pay! I think that comment just about sums it up!

I think that's because we're not allowed to say anything controversial, TF. There are posters on here that insist on keeping topics of conversation on a mundane level. They want the forum to be just an exchange of pleasantries rather than a proper discussion. As soon as a discussion gets more stimulating, they press the report button and ask for the thread to be closed.

It all depends on what people find 'interesting' TF. We have had a range of topics of conversation or discussion on here. But if people don't find it stimulating enough I suggest they don't take part. Also just as a point of interest I don't find it 'stimulating' when people start being rude to or about each other.

Fair point TF except that this particular thread has nothing really to do with how many years one has been in our hobby or how long you have been a member of CT. I remember the early days as well and they were interesting only if you like name calling and the vitriol that accompanied it.
Unfortunately like all forums some threads tend to get taken over by an individual/s pontificating their brand of propaganda and some of the threads in General Chat are just that 'a vehicle for a member'

P.S. I'm not at all interested in other folk political persuasion so thats a non starter for me

Whilst I agree and I stopped using the forum partly because of that for 12 moths. However it seems that there is a tendency for the report button to now be pressed because somebody dislikes the subject content, feels that there is disagreement, whatever.
Knee jerk reaction is to then close a thread in case it might escalate or if there is a poster who oversteps the mark to then close the thread instead of removing the post, editing it etc and addressing the member's behaviour directly. Feels very stifling IMO.

I think TF has mistaken why most of us use this particular thread which is about our daily events and doings etc. Maybe the conversation instigated by TF needs a separate discussion thread?
What am I doing today, just looking in for a friendly chat.

On this thread I regard it as a place for friendly daily chat, not a debating or heavily themed discussion area. I suspect TF could have started the debate elsewhere for a better general response. If TF doesn't like the set up in General Chat area his ideas could be raised in the section separately.
It's if no interest to me on this social thread.
Anyway, have a good day all, ( don't spend it in the cellar TF.

I'd stay to chat but got a few tasks to do then off to meet friend in town for cuppa and catch up - lots of that!

I've got my diabetic clinic appointment with the nurse at 13:30 in which she will want to discuss the results of all the tests done. So I could be in for a right telling off! After all I've been eating hot cross buns and chocolate from an Easter Egg over Easter which is hardly going to meet with approval!

If people have something to say about this forum there is a correct place for it to be posted. I think it fairly obvious what the purpose of this thread is. If people wish to discuss other, more serious, subjects they are perfectly free to start their own discussion providing the subject matter is within the rules. I will look forward to those that complain that this thread is too constricting starting their own threads.

The tests were done two weeks ago, so the results of the Easter Egg and Hot Cross buns won't show up, so as long as I keep quiet, the nurse won't know what I ate for Easter! After all Easter only comes once a year, taffyY, so perhaps a little indulgence might be permissible, don't you think?

I don't have Diabetes and most certainly would do my utmost to keep it that way. From what I have read it can have a terrible outcome if not controlled, I would take it very seriously indeed.
Just look at some of the images of lower limbs etc affected by this disease, eyesight problems etc and think again about the foolishness in ignoring it.

Malcolm, my dear old Mum was diagnosed with Type 2 when she was 65. She eventually lost, 1st her big toe, then her foot, then her leg, below the knee and finally her leg above the knee, all down to Diabetes.
So, if you have such a devil may care attitude,to this disease, just think on.....

David, it is not about this thread but rather the fact that as soon as an interesting topic is fired up and gets invigorated then the heavy hand descends and knocks everything back to the mundane level of our aches and pains etc..
For example I feel that very few folk would wish to hear about a pair of daft Dunetts that are currently fighting their own reflection in my car door mirror. Even I am not that interested in them!

Redface, with all it's ups and downs this is the ultimate mundane thread, aches and pains and all. If it gets dominated by any one person or topic that's when it gets very very boring and personally, I lose interest. Anyway must go, got some things to do today.
