He looks as though he has made himself completely at home.

The appointment with the nurse seemed to go all right. I didn't get the grilling that I expected! She just said that blood sugar level was a bit high but there is some new medication come out that can be taken in addition to the Metformin that can reduce it because I'm already on maximum dose of Metformin. Also blood pressure too high so the doctor will review the medication for that. I used to be on Ramipril and Amlodopine but the hospital consultant decided to stop the Amlodopine when I was in hospital last year. Not sure why. No problem with feet or toes though.

Look after them AD. This late cold weather is playing havoc with frog and toad breeding. Could be an idea to keep an eye on planter and gently top up to stop it drying up, or put them into pond? We always get lots of frogspawn. I love watching how they develop.

For 21 years weโve been planning to do something with our pantry, and at last weโre making a start. While my husband is up ladders and standing on the freezer etc, filling holes and painting walls, Iโve been sorting out recipe books.
This is from the original recipe book that came with the Aga in 1949. Itโs still our only cooker, but I donโt quite look like the cook in the photo.
Itโs a very big room and time is rushing by, as normal farm work comes first.

I loved those books we used to get with our cookers Goldie. I still have mine from our original gas cooker just over 50 years ago.

Malcolm, Ive just had my annual too. There does seem to be some changes being made! Like you I am now off Amlodopine. My Metformin halved to 1x50 mg tab twice a day instead of 2x50 mg twice a day.
More emphasis on better diet etc. But good news is that Red wine is fine (But not by the bucketful as my wife tactfully reminds me.)

We had roast lamb for lunch. It's our favourite dish and lamb has been on half price offer at Tesco.

Yes that's true, Metheven but nowadays new medications are available that can more effectively control it. Previously, when I worked for dinner2go, there was no time to attend surgery and hospital appointments. Thankfully, I now have a job that gives me a lot of time off as I only to have to work evenings part-time. So this year I was fortunate enough to be able to enrol into diabetic clinic. So now the doctors and nurses are on to my case which hopefully will mean better medical care for this condition.
Incidentally, the nurse did discuss with me about diet and didn't mind me having the occasional treat such as rhubarb crumble for pudding once a month and I mentioned having a chocolate Easter Egg without it causing too much of a stir!

Isn't Glicazide the medication with the downside of advancing the condition by causing the body to over produce insulin, EasyT? I think the nurse discussed this with me two years ago and recommended no change to my medication because of having a driving job. The side effects, such as low blood sugar, could affect my ability to drive.
The nurse did tell me but I can't remember the name of the new medication. However, the prescription is being sent to Tesco in-store pharmacy, so I will know when I collect it in two days time.

The doctor seemed to be concerned that my blood pressure had gone up because of being taken off Amlodopine. It seems that they will review this to see if some other medication might be more suitable. It seems that your condition must be improving, TF.

There are a number of side effects with any drug Malcolm but most are minor and the more common ones are minor inconvenience for most being basically stomach upset. The major possibility is liver damage which can be watched for by yellow eye colour and blood tests.
Yes, if blood sugar is more or less under control then skipped meals can result in hypoglycaemia due to low sugar levels. When I was taking it s part of medication I made sure that I ate something breakfast, lunch and dinner and occasional snacks if active. Breakfast a couple of slices of toast usually, lunch often a round of sandwiches.
I only had a minor problem with Hypoglycaemia once. Totally my fault. I was up at 6am and had some things to sort out and simply forgot breakfast. I had a hygeinist appointment and a dental check up scheduled from nearly mid day. Intended to eat afterwards. There were delays due to an emergency and after a check up about 1pm the dentist was going to do a minor filling but I realised that I did not feel right. Glucose drink and a 30 min sit down instead before driving home.

Fortunately I don't have a sweet tooth. I do like a 'Good' fruit scone and butter though. No time for doughy efforts! large scone is likely to replace the usual lubch.

Excitement, well in my life anyway, for us today!
Our car just been taken off on a low loader truck to our repair garage, first time ever in 50 years of driving OH has ever needed such help. Slightly heartened as the guy taking it away pointed out broken spring bl***y potholes. Hopefully it won't be as expensive or serious as we'd prepared ourselves for ๐.
Received 2 lovely videos of our eldest granddaughter, just 4, riding her bike on the grass without stabilisers. Pretty tight turns to keep her going so jolly steady ๐. Very proud. Shame the return video is our car being placed on the low loader truck ๐. But you have to entertain them with something!
Guy took a photo of the broken spring, easy to spot if you know what you're looking for. Neither of us, both good at DIY and practical things, have any clue when it comes to vehicles. Park safely and leave to those who know and understand.

Only 8 days - that's very good.

I hope you are going to send that photo to your local council bakers2 and get some compensation. If they get enough claims hopefully they will realise that it would be a better option to mend the potholes. Our Nissan has gone in today for a new wheel bearing. It seems to be the week for problems with cars. Well done to your grand-daughter. That's good going for a 4 year old.

It usually is with ours as well for emergencies EasyT but I think there must have been a backlog because of the bank holiday. (either that or OH rang too late in the morning. I went out at 8.30am so wasn't there to 'supervise'
)

Brilliant going since she was only 4 on 10 March ๐.
Apparently may not have been a pothole ๐ฒ
As I tried to type on my reply to EasyT we are awaiting an update on what/howmuch/when etc phone call in due course.
I've been able to type normally on this post, maybe site getting it's own back because I critical about it on another thread ๐ฒ

Back with the land of the living once again, last few days have been pretty awful but today I'm feeling (if not sounding) better.
OH has had the 13 staples removed from his shoulder and its looking very neat and clean. He has been very good at doing his exercises (x 4 times a day) and has a far bit of movement in the arm now. He's taken my little car down into the village to pick up some milk, he was warned he might not be able to drive for 4-6 weeks.
I've caught up with all the post on here and I can say I don't find this thread mundane, I like the idea of it being like a bus stop queue or the tea room at work, maybe that's what draws us back day after day, the chance of a bit of casual conversation rather than a full on debate.
Folks views of what children need are I think often mistaken, children need stimulation of all the senses, and if that means going out in the cold and wet at times so be it, there is a saying up here "I'm not made of sugar" my own children were never put off by bad weather.
In fact I remember when we bought out first ever caravan, it was May 1980 just before the Whit weekend. We took it down to the New Forrest for a few days with the 2 boys, ages 2 and 4. At that time there was no shower block, we had no electrics, no flushing toilet, no fridge, no awning, no heater. Yep it was great, we had sun and showers over the couple of days but the boys had a blast, both had wellies and full waterproof suits to wear and would happily spend hours (it seemed) splashing around in the puddles. A couple of black plastic bags in the boot of the car and all the washing taken home.
Their love of the outdoors still enjoyed today and thankfully they have taught their children the same. Hours of fun sliding down grassy embankments on "Stadt sacks" in Germany when we had snow was another of their favorites, returning to the house blue lips with the cold but rosy checks from all the exercise. Good strong bones and healthy kids is to be cherished, tv is for those days when the little ones are feeling poorly, a couple of hours on the couch watching a good children's film or cartoons to take their minds off feeling poorly is a treat.
