No TV in the home were my grandkids live. There are some interactive learning programs that they use regularly and like and that we have played with from time to time when they want to show me what they can do. On a wet day at home when I visit a pack of balloons seems favourite and maybe a bubble wand.

There is a lovely cherry tree in bloom at the bottom of our road and I noticed a couple more when we went to the Cathedral yesterday.  I just wish they could get some sun and warmth. I think the weather is supposed to be improving by next weekend so we need to hang on in there.  We went to a talk recently by a lady who has lived on the salt fens in Lincolnshire all her life - a real Fenlander. She said it would be cold until the middle to end of May and then we would get a scorching summer.

This photo was taken on Christmas day, think the rose was really confused by the weather. The Daffodils were also out by the Church. The cold snap is not doing my rose buds any good.

So true, A good boss, should encourage and praise and be a good leader, then he will get the best from his staff. A bad boss who's only interest is in profits will have a huge turnover of staff.

The flowers are putting on their usual heartwarming show, it's just a pity they don't have the sun, we haven't here, to really show their display it its stunning best.

I too think this weather will linger but when it turns it will be quick and hot - hopefully long too 😉

I'am sure you would like Stowe Brue, beautiful gardens, does get very busy at weekends, although plenty of walks away from the crowds.  I remember it from before the NT took over, we only lived a few miles away as a child.

Only managed one visit,  promised ourselves we will return. What I now need us 3 months touring UK, might just do that when the weather warms slightly.  At the mo the garden needs Licking into shape for spring, it's pretty good at looking after itself, but we like to ensure weeds are suppressed.  1 years seeds 7 years weeds, so get them out before they seed 😉. I agree a weed is just a plant in the wrong situation 😆.

I wonder if that will be possible? Mustn't dream too much 😂😂

I don't think any of the parents or grandparents on this site would want their children or grandchildren playing outside on a day like this. It's tipping down with rain! It's cold, wet and muddy and if they played outside they would very quickly get covered in mud and that means MORE work! Do you really want to spend your whole day cleaning them up and washing their clothes? Come on folks GET REAL. Childrens programmes on the tv are good, CLEAN entertainment for them and it's safe! They're not going to trip and fall and break bones watching tv are they?

    H&T

We really must go to Stowe Gardens, we only live a few miles away but I suppose the things closest to us are the things we are least likely to visit!  Have you been to Wrest Park, in Bedfordshire, which was restored a few years ago?

Hope you are not "children should be seen and not heard" person. My son was a rugby mad child, and he and his friends would play/ train in all weathers, he would often come home dripping in mud. I often watched him on wet, and cold days without complaining. Rather that than an unhealthy couch potato who never played outside.

All this talk of children, we had the family round for dinner yesterday which included Joss who is 12 years old so perhaps a bit more than a child. Her Mum wanted me to organise an Easter Egg hunt, in the house as it was wet outside. Given her age I thought we could go for some cryptic clues as to where the eggs were hidden. It's at this point you realise what the 60 year gap in our age really means! One of the clues I came up with was to hide an egg amongst some decorative Fir Cones on a table in the hall. She was having trouble with this so I helped a bit until she actually got the clue only for me to be told rather indignantly  they were Pine Cones not Fir Cones!!! I think next year I will let her set the clues and I will find the eggs!!!

As to TV, I don't think a lot of older children actually watch TV these days they much prefer to use tablets or phones watching YouTube. Despite always seemingly having her nose in her tablet she seemed perfectly comfortable having a rudimentary conversation in Spanish with Paul and Marisa. So different from when I was 12!!!

    No, absolutely not!

you might get short term gains that way and yes there are times when maximum effort is needed in short bursts but to do this continuously can't be sustained.

People will get tired, resentful, won't enjoy their work, and start to make mistakes, they will 'work to rule' and when you really need maximum effort you won't get it and you'll be the one to face the music from your boss.

Treat people decently and you'll get far more back, that's what I've found anyway.

Went for a circular walk that included getting milk. Pleasantly surprised at the 'warmth'. Had to remove my gloves and undo my jacket 😲 . Checked the outdoor thermometer on our return 9.8c heady days! Not only warm, not as much as I'd like for this time if the year 😉 but it was DRY just a few spots as we approached home again, which turned into a heavy shower and it' still raining. Seen puddle, lakes?, in places I've never seen them in 30 years of living here 😲😲.

I was also pleasantly surprised the hawthorn is very green and several magnolia trees are in full bud. Let' hope that know something we don't - fingers crossed.

I'm now off to sit comfortably on the sofa will a cuppa and the book downloaded after Helenandtrevor recommendation. I hope to loose myself for several hours 😃😇.

Wow there appears to be some brightness in the sky - not actual sun but not as grey as it's been 😆

Yesterday was sunny, but cool. But today it’s appalling - wet, windy and very cold. But we’re doing that most ppopular Bank Holiday thing - DIY.

But first a bit of light vacuuming by OH in the pantry, while I check the wine stocks.

Just arrived at work a few minutes early so a little spare time to catch up on here. Not much traffic on the road so an easy commute from the site turning right on to Titnore Lane to join the A27 through Worthing and on to Lancing.

I have just completed the 2 modules of the online Safeguarding course required for my volunteering role,  It has taken most of the afternoon but very interesting.  I think everyone should do it as we can come across vulnerable children and adults in all walks of life. I now have a certificate to prove it.smile.  We are off shortly to daughter and SIL's for a meal.  8 year old grand-daughter won't be there unfortunately as she has gone ice-skating with her friend's family and then they are having what is laughingly called a 'sleepover' at her friend's house laughing

I wonder whether we will all wake up to blue skies and sunshine tomorrow now that the bank holiday break is over?

We haven't visited Wrest Park yet David.

You must visit Stowe sometime, but I know what you mean about not getting around to visit local attractions.

Oh Cariadon I also remember our youngest playing rugby, pouring rain, pitch like a mud bath!  The boys thoroughly enjoying the game, the kit just went in the washing machine, son in the shower laughing

Once he came home, could only see the white of his eyes, so I hosed him down outside, luckily it wasn't that cold, then kit had to be washed in a bucket before I could even think about putting it into the machine. We often laugh about it even now,
