Nellie…..we are at Seton Sands again, as it is close to my friend in Haddington. However, a bit of a trek to Aberdour!

DEB You are very lucky that you found obtaining a blue badge was so easy. My son was born with Spina Bifida and is a paraplegic and his condition is obviously never going to improve, but what a carry on these days with our local authority to get his blue badge renewed. It used to be quite easy as you could get it renewed locally but these days there is lots of form filling, letters of authorisation and it takes around 3 weeks for it to arrive. Of course, sods law dictated that he had a hospital appointment in Liverpool and the badge had not come back and you could only park on the ground floor if you had a blue badge! The lift was out of order so I had to push his wheelchair up and down, 3 floors via the car ramp!

A cold and rainy day here and the only excitement was receiving a letter from a religious society with some interesting stamps, I can only assume they had these lying about and used them up?

    stamp1.jpg

This one for four and a half pence is from 1974! In case you're wondering it's worth a max of £1.50 so a 3233% increase. If only I had a time machine.

    stamp 2.jpg

Covid and flu jabs later on to look forward to as well.

Love the stamp usage. Check out how much the old, franked stamps might be worth, you never know! A real mix of old and new. The two Queen’s head ones look very modern, with the digital side bars, but unusual amounts. I used to collect stamps, a hobby encouraged by one of my Primary School teachers. She used to help me send away for stunning, embroidered first day covers, so not only were the stamps of interest, you could get an embroidered keepsake, which I think was the envelope🤔 Must try and find my stamp album…………….

I know I am new at this Blue Badge thing - but now having one, I find myself checking disabled parking bays just to see if they are being used legitimately! Passed one car in a disabled bay in Hornsea this morning and noticed it was just displaying the blue 'parking clock' that comes with your blue badge - no actual badge to be seen. Just out of interest, I checked on Amazon when I got home and - sure enough - there they were - for all of £3.99 - identical to those issued by Dept. of Transport. I don't suppose most other people would have given it a second glance. Why don't you ever see Traffic Wardens anymore (or 'Civil Enforcement Officers' as I believe they are now called!)

I know what you mean @richardandros. Look out for cars in disabled bays with the disabled person staying in the car while the young fit passenger nips to the shops😤

That's pretty disgraceful @vbfg. Could you not have used the existing one with a note explaining renewal delayed by post? Coincidentally I was at the graveside of a sister I never met over the last few days away on the Wirral. She too had Spina Bifida but alas only survived for less than 3 years. My elder brother, who was first born, often relates tales about her when we bring her name up. A bonny child apparently. I promised him I'd call in and see to the grave if it needed it.

On the Blue badge front we seemed to have been treated well when we applied for MiLs last year.

Back home fairly early on today as MiL had visitors due mid morning. She recently gave up going to her craft class as she felt she was unable to contribute due her right arm problems after her Stroke. Some of it is also down to anxiety I think and stress from not being able to do projects. So anyway, the ladies in the craft club donated to a collection and 2 of the members, 2 that used to provide a lift to and from the class, brought a beautiful bunch of flowers for her, a natter and a gee up, trying to impress on her that she could just do whatever she wanted not necessarily the project. We'll see but I think her mind is made up now that its the to hang up her card making.

Enjoyed the break away. Medical appointments loom large.

Sometimes it's not as it seems. The other day I dropped OH and her Disabled mother off at the hospital, then went off to town to do some things. Returned and parked in a disabled bay, went in to see how long they were going to be (another 15 minutes) so went and sat in the car. I did get a furrowed brow look from someone who wanted to park in the bays but I was there to pick up a disabled person. This has also happened at Tesco's.

Of course, some disabilities are not always apparent to the onlooker. Mind you, then you get 2 workmen in hard hats nipping in for their lunch sandwiches and you do want to take a photo but I've heard of people being sacked for such a thing and I don't think I'd want that on my conscience.

There is a lot of misuse of both disabled and parent and child bays in the supermarket car parks near us. Often in the Lidl, Aldi, Tesco, Waitrose and M&S etc ones near us , which are free for a specified time, we see cars with no child seats in the P&C bays, and cars with no disabled badges in the disabled bays. Some people even blatantly just park in them and then go off to other shops nearby. Of course, none of the supermarkets patrol these spaces, so these people know they will get away with it.

@DEBSC We know how you feel about the Blue Badge. We would far rather that OH was fit and able as he used to be. As a previously very fit and active person - he was a keen sportsperson and we loved to go for long walks and belonged to a walking group - he is very frustrated but I must say the Blue Badge is a godsend and makes going out and parking so much easier - that is when we can find a spot! When we went to our local hospital last month WWIII practically broke out in the disabled car park and some people were trying to 'jump the queue' and were driving the wrong way round the car park to get to a slot first. There was much waving of arms and some choice language! We beat a hasty retreat and luckily found a spot in the 'normal' car park.

@heddlo I am sorry to hear that your are still uncomfortable after your hip operation. I do hope you feel better soon. I contacted a friend of mine yesterday who had a hip operation 10 days ago and she is finding life very uncomfortable at the moment and can't cope with the crutches. I do feel for her but hopefully it will all be worth it in the long run.

We have just been to our GP surgery for our flu and covid jabs. So much better this year as in the past few years they have done the flu jabs but not the covid and we have had to search the internet for a chemist that is fairly local to us and we have been to come rather 'odd' places. Both now done and dusted and very well organised and quick.

@nelliethehooker Such lovely photos again. You have visited some beautiful places. @Wherenext I love the photo of the sign of the children waving to the train. Glad you had a good few days away.

We must brace ourselves for a very windy and wet weekend.

I applied for my Blue Badge 7/10 days ago and as yet hsve not head anything. They have taken the fee and perhaps more importantly not refunded it, so I assume it is just going through the approval/disapproval process. Interestingly the lady at eye clinic yesterday was very keen to encourage us to apply for Attendance Allownce. It doesn't really cross my mind to apply for such Benefits but of course any disability does bring with it extra expence, so I will think about it. Because I can no longer help Margaret with cleaning the house and with her hip problems we have had to employ a cleaner once a week to help, so that and all the taxi's does add up.

I feel a bit torn when I see all the lovely pictures being posted on here as I just wonder whether we will actually get to see these places in the future. Early days I know and perhaps I should be a bit more positive. Just paid the Club sub for another year in the hope that we might be able to use some of the Experience Freedom units, so will have to see what next year brings before deciding whether to continue with membership? Sorry if this post seems a bit depressing but there are a lot of unknowns at the moment.

@milliehull thank you for your kind words. I do hope your friend starts to improve soon, I do know the first 2/3 weeks are the hardest so fingers crossed for her. I’m doing ok it’s mainly a problem with the wound this time round, I didn’t have any issues last time. Going to the hospital twice a week is getting me down a bit! I am now on antibiotics for a week which I’m not happy about but if it helps that’s all good. I did manage a fairly long (for me) walk earlier today so the actual internal part is working quite well thankfully. Our Flu and Covid are not until end of October, earliest our surgery gave us.

I don’t know if anyone else has had a problem with skin glue to close a long hip wound? All I can say is I would rather have clips or stitches in preference as it seems I have got an allergic reaction to this glue. When they ask ‘are you allergic to anything?’ No, I’m not usually, but as I have never had this before, how am I to know!!!

Just seen the news and weather so take care @nelliethehooker and anyone else in Scotland especially, it looks a bad couple of days coming up.

Thanks @heddlo I just hope that it will not be quite as bad as forecast, as we were in a rather exposed location! It will be a matter of just hanging on in there while it lasts.

We had over 12 hrs of rain from 10:30 last night, and then again more showers through the afternoon. We only managed a couple of dry walks after lunch, one down at Maidens, as well as a couple of short wet ones this morning. It was not an auspicious start to my 81st year!!😆

Hopefully tomorrow will be better and we can get further afield.

We have failed to find a suitable site that is much nearer to Aberdour. It is a 39 mile drive, just over 1 hour.

In the past we have used Balbirnie a couple of times, also Monturpie when it was a CL, and East Fortune, both the CL and Station Park.

At least we are really near my friend in Haddington, and the price here is reasonable for what is on offer, we are paying £27.50.

Plodding on here, with not much newsworthy news. Yesterday- dentist and doctor. But today is the start of winter gigs (8 booked). Tonight we’re at Settle for John Bramwell. Maybe not as well known as he should be. I’ve been a fan since I heard him on the radio driving home from work a long time ago. Have a listen, especially to when he toured as “I am Kloot”. My family think he’s one of those weird things that Mum likes.

Not much newsworthy news here, either @Goldie146 . Seem to be ploding on/ catching up with a few things.... all very 'routine!! It has, however, been injection week!! We've both been for our 'flu injection today, and yesterday was my Covid jab.... Today's flu jab was quite sraightforward as it was done by the local GP practice. Yesterday' s jab was a bit of a nightmare.... went to a pharmacy in Tamworth and it was really busy... and not too well organised. They insisted on blood preassure and filling in information on bits of paper! It was an hours job!

Just sitting in the car at Sainsbury's while Carol picks up one or two bits and pieces for her mum.... then we're off over to visit her mum (via the caravan storeage to drop off one or two things. No doubt this afternoon will include a visit to Costa or Starbucks, then it's on to Brewood for tonights practice. Iguess tea will most likely be a meal deal from tbe petrol station on the way.... This is the sort of 'bitty' week we've been having.

Nevermind.… soon time for our few days out in the 'van at Sandringham...

That has been our experience with the covid jabs in the past few years @DSB Finding a fairly local chemist that did them and then finding that they were packed out and it took ages with all the form filling etc. This year our GP practice decided to do them with the flu jabs - hooray! All done and dusted by familiar people - in and out in 15 minutes max.

A very mundane week here as well - not much to report at all. Cheered up by the son in N.Ireland who rang last night to say they fancied coming over here for half term week. Great news.

I seem to recall that you have to send the existing badge back, when you reapply for a new one. I don't mind paying to park but as the car park is used extensively by hospital patients then one would think that they would make a huge effort to repair the lift quickly. I envisage that years ago, many more babies and young children who were born with spina bifida died than they do now, as medical knowledge was far less advanced, although my son is not exactly young!

Granddaughter rushed into hospital again yesterday, straight into resus. I wasn’t with her so went there a short time after but unless one has traveled with her in the ambulance they won’t let you in until they have set up what’s needed. I went for a cuppa. On returning to A&E reception I was behind someone who had taken their Mum in, I thought poor old lady, only to then hear that she was 3 years younger than me. I think I sometimes don’t realise how old Im getting 😁 A&E packed again, (I have to walk through there) many having to stand, not even weekend and middle of the day, I really don’t know how they cope. It’s definitely getting worse. After 7 hours granddaughter allowed home, she stayed with us last night. 7am this morning she was up, ‘Nan, would you mind running me into work, or I could get the bus’ She was adamant that she was going. Many could learn a lot from her, I remember some colleagues of mine who would take a day off with every sniffle.

The day seems to have been filled to this point. Early Blood extraction plus a trip to the GP, both of which didn't take up too much time. Then to Tesco where I had dropped OH off en route to the hospital for bloods. Fortunately, for me at least😁, she'd nearly finished. Back home for a cuppa then off to the recycling centre. Back for lunch. OH has taken her mother to town, principally for her flu jab but a new pair of trousers was mentioned in passing. As they went out 2 hours ago and town is 10 minutes away I think there's a fair likelihood of new trousers appearing any time soon.🤣

Meanwhile I thought I'd do some preparation for tomorrows dinner which includes Bubble and Squeak so the potatoes and cabbage are done. Phoned my younger brother for a chat. We tend to leave it a month or two between calls unless anything urgent crops up.

Enjoy your night @Goldie146. I'll give him a try later on.

Well, you kept that one quiet @nelliethehooker - so belated happy birthday wishes to you. Hope you had a good day, despite the weather.

@DEBSC - sorry to hear about your granddaughter having problems again - but as you say - what a trooper she is. I'll resist saying what I think of others who look for any excuse not to go to work, comfortable in the fact that the State will apparently provide for them!

Both of us been for our Covid and Flu jabs this afternoon - at our local chemist. It was very busy but really well organised and I was actually out before my appointment time. According to the lady 'jabber', she was doing three jabs every five minutes and had been at it since 0830 this morning and wasn't due to finish until 5.30 this afternoon. That's a lot of vaccine!

Thanks @milliehull and @richardandros and yes I've joined the 80+ club now! We no longer really bother celebrating birthdays any more, but obviously try to get out somewhere for the day, weather permitting, as we are usually away in the caravan for the event.

@DEBSC sorry to read of your granddaughter was rushed into hospital again but pleased that she has recovered sufficiently to return to work.....what a very brave and resilient lass.

We have yet to get our jabs, being away, but will attempt tomorrow to fix a date to get them done at our doctor's as soon as possible after we get back home.

It would have been journies of roughly similar length whichever site you had chosen to stop on and I guess you were able to get a serviced pitch at SS at a good price @KjellNN. Safe journey when you head south.
