Yes, I have a lightning used with older gear and a USB C I bought for newer devices. I use it for back ups onto memory sticks as well.

Enjoy your days away @Wherenext Shame about you "forgetting" your cards, does that mean that OH will be picking up all the tabs this trip?😁 It looks a very smart cottage.

Did you manage to get your awning down in the dry @richardandros ? Have a safe tow back home tomorrow.

Nice for you to meet up with 3 generations of your family @milliehull over the last couple of days

@nelliethehooker - awning packed away, more or less dry - windows a bit damp but since it's the lightweight Sunncamp 390, I'll just spread it out on the hall floor overnight when we get home and it'll be perfectly dry in the morning.

As you can gather - another change of plan as the forecast changed! Neither today not tomorrow is going to be too windy and since it's pouring down here at the moment - and tomorrow promises to be dry - we're staying until tomorrow as originally planned. Kindle will be out before long!

Cottage looks lovely @Wherenext - enjoy your break.

We expected to wake up to rain this morning but it was dry. Overcast and threatening rain but dry. So we checked on MiL, who was a bit jaded from yesterday and went somewhere she could mooch, shop and find a cuppa, namely Peak Village, a small retail outlet owned by the Duchess of Devonshire apparently.

It fulfilled the criteria admirably. We managed nearly 3 hours there. Just glad she was jaded before we started. Her credit card joined the jaded list by the end. 😁

Didn't start raining until just before we left. Now teeming down.

@nelliethehooker - it wasn't crafty leaving my wallet behind as we have a joint account so I'll still suffer the consequences.🥴

The owner of the property popped in to see if there were any issues. There aren't. Nice of him to do so though.

You can’t be far from Crich Tramway Museum @Wherenext Might be an interesting visit for you all, although your MIL might not be able to do an actual tram journey. Lots to see, and some of it under cover for a wet afternoon. Not a cheap visit though. Cheaper than Chatsworth though😱 I used to take Dad round Bakewell in his wheelchair, nice town with good eateries. Plenty of retail opportunities there🤭Cottage looks lovely, hope you all have a nice stay👍

Well, yesterday was a bit of a dull and showery day. Took the MIL shopping... that is always quite difficult and tiring as it involves loading and unloading the electric scooter iton the car several times. However, managed to take advantage of the 25% off six bottles of wine offer at Sainbury's.

Today looks so much brighter and settled. Had a good service at the Abbey this morning, and the choir sang the anthem really nicely.

Glad to read that several are still out and about in caravans and motorhomes.... Glad you are enjoying Scotland @nelliethehooker.... and the cottage in the Peaks, @Wherenext. Hope you have a safe journey home @richardandros... glad you had a good family catch up @milliehull.

It'll be at least a couple of weeks before we get chance to get out.... I quite fancy Sandringham.... but could 'change direction' before then.... 😀😀 One of the advantages of living in the middle is that we can travel in different directions, and I guess nowhere is too far.... I don't mind a bit of a journey.... managed to drive almost 5400 miles during our summer jaunts!!!

@Wherenext - is that cottage called Apple Tree View? We were thinking of booking it in May as an alternative to our usual place in Little Longstone (although, admittedly it's not within walking distance of The Packhorse!) Do you recommend it? Are there walks direct from the door? Would be interested to know what your impressions of the place are.

Hi @moulesy. Yes it is Apple Tree View. The cottage itself is excellent, one of the best we've been to. Furniture and fittings top notch with a sun deck facing west. I haven't really had a chance to check out walking as we're here to give MiL a holiday but I did read a comment in the guest book about walking in the woods above the cottage and another reference to walking in Holt Woods (might be those) and walking to the garden centre for coffee

"The walks up the back in the forest are great for off the lead walks and the Derwent Heritage Trail riverside walk is really nice from Hathersage" is one of the comments.

Think it will tick all of your boxes. Keith, the owner, did mention it was getting quite full already. Not surprised.

Hope this reply is what you were looking for. Hope you are well

Asked MiL if she had a fancy for today and she said she wanted to go to the Craft fair at Cromford Mill so that's where we ended up.

I left them to it and went for a walk down the canal. Nice sunny day in contrast to yesterday but a bite to the wind.

More goodies bought at the Mill. There was an Indian snack bar there so I had a lovely vegetarian mish-mash of gluten free items. Made a nice change for me. The Wharf cafe was open so the Ladies went there and then visited a monthly Wool Spinning club in the old Wharf building. That was informative and enjoyable as well.

Off home after that as MiL was flagging. The good thing about the cottage is that she really likes the view so that in itself is a holiday for her. Lovely and warm in the conservatory this afternoon.

Thanks for that, @Wherenext - our May Setter walk is through the woods high above Matlock. We've already booked the place at Little Longstone for next year, but always interested in alternatives.

All well here, bit of a hiatus on the getting away front over the past year or so, but just about back to normal now. Off for a walking holiday in the Italian Lakes next week!

A very busy Friday and Saturday, daughter away for a couple of days, first our granddaughter needed collecting from a not local hospital where she’d been taken poorly. Then other granddaughter had to be helped out on a visit to the vets with grand-dog as it had 9 seizures one after another. This sometimes happens but not with such frequency. Now hopefully all settled down with new tablets. But I think that our daughters break away was quite stressful just hearing from her girls.

OHs birthday today, we planned a day and meal at Lynmouth but very wet and chilly morning so change of plan. A brief trip to Westward Ho! for a coffee, then back home to watch a new dvd of Midsummer Nights Dream filmed at the RSC on the night that we had attended. We enjoyed it just as much the second time around I would definitely recommend. Weather looks better tomorrow so our trip to Lynmouth and lunch there now planned again. Requested by the birthday boy, sausage egg and chips planned for dinner in a bit.

Oh dear @DEBSC what a stressful and busy time for you and your daughter. Not quite the relaxing break she was hoping for. Happy birthday to your OH I hope you have an enjoyable time in Lynmouth, we love it there.

Your trip away sounds a success for MIL so far @Wherenext. I had to laugh about her credit card feeling jaded 😁

I know what you mean about dealing with your MIL'S mobility scooter @DSB OH only has a rollator but we found it quite tiring dealing with it when we were away. His mobility means he cant really lift it in and out of the car and I find it difficult as it is quite heavy.

    Great photos again @nelliethehooker

I had a busy time yesterday as local DIL, who loves a good clear out, decided she would come and help me clear out and clean some of my kitchen cupboards. Her and son then took a big box of unwanted crockery to our local Sue Ryder charity shop. A really rewarding morning. I am so grateful to them.. More gardening in the afternoon so I am now feeling a bit jaded today (like @Wherenext's MIL's credit card 😁) Much cooler today. It was quite windy overnight but had died down to a rather fresh chilly breeze by the time we got up. Dry and quite sunny though.

I was going to say that I like a man with simple tastes but having thought about you, @DEBSC, taking umbrage and misinterpreting my meaning I don't think I will.🤣 So a brief Happy Birthday to your OH.

@milliehull - MiLs credit card has been resuscitated and had a gentle bit of exercise today, only coming out to spoil Mrs.WN. Yes, she got a new present that she desperately craved. A hand made Peg Bag.😂😂

Oh, you should have seen her face light up but she'll now have to think of a new present for Christmas.

@Wherenext ha ha no offence would have been taken. Yes he has simple tastes, I like to cook, like cooking varied recipes and to feed us healthily, he on the other hand, and given the chance will choose faggots, fish and chips or sausage and chips, so it was his chosen birthday dinner.

Good to hear that all your hard work with the choir paid off at the service in the Abbey today @DSB

@DavidKlyne you have certainly got me beat there, as I have now forgotten all of the little computing that I once knew!

Happy Birthday to your OH @DEBSC I hope he enjoyed his home made meal, and that you have an enjoyable meal during your day out at Lynmouth tomorrow.

Having someone to help with clearing out always seem to result in getting rid of stuff you should get rid of but are reluctant to part with @milliehull Sounds like a successful day, especially with getting some gardening done too.

Nice to hear from you again @moulesy enjoy your walking holiday next week.

Your ladies certainly know how to enjoy themselves @Wherenext I hope it stays fine for the rest of your stay at Matlock.

It has been another fine sunny day although we have had a stiff and chilly wind for most of it, and just one very short shower in the late afternoon. To keep out of the wind we had a couple of walks through Binning Wood, part of which is now a woodland burial site. It was originally planted in 1707 by the 6th Earl of Haddington. The majority was felled to help the war effort between 1942-45, with much of the timber being used to make the airframes for Mosquito fighter-bombers. It was replanted after the war and now has a fine selection of mixed woodland, with numerous tracks and footpaths.

Readng the posts from Cumbria, in particular, we are glad we have chosen the North East for this trip as there are numerous flood warnings for the county and the Keswick Club site has had to be evacuated again!😙😮

Brilliant @DavidKlyne - the famous Windows "get out of jail free" card!

Belated Happy Birthday wishes to your OH @DEBSC - and congratulate him on his excellent culinary tastes😀

Had an uneventful trip back home, yesterday and little Toby, next door was so excited to see Meg again. Spent the afternoon unloading car and van so it's all ready for a good clean today.

Never thought I'd get to the age where I could get excited about my Blue Badge being in the post whilst we were away - together with…….. (thanks to @DavidKlyne , @Wherenext and others) - a card reader for my camera - and it works!!!! I can't believe that all the grief I have gone through and the hours on the phone trying to sort it out - and the answer was a £3.99 bit of plastic!

Some good sunny days recently so have been preparing the caravan for DD’s trip to Pitlochry this weekend. She was here on Saturday to clean inside the van, while OH entertained the boys, van now sparkling inside and ready to be loaded up. She has brought a big bag of stuff, probably bedding and towels, so we can get the bed ready for them , and will pack our stuff to use when we take over occupancy. Water system has been cleaned, today I will check tyre pressures etc as the van has not been used since May.

OH’s Blue Badge arrived last week so we have been able to use it a couple of times when shopping, which was good. Yesterday we visited our son down in Ayrshire and went in past IKEA on our way home to purchase a small trolley that she can use to move dishes around in the kitchen, and between there and the lounge. Carrying anything while using walking sticks is not easy, so she had looked at the tray trolleys on the mobility websites, but decided rather to get something less “hospital like”.

DIL said they had some aids in their garage from when they had to clear out an elderly aunt’s house, no trolleys though, but a foldable wheelchair which aunt had bought, so we took that as it could be useful when away on holiday. OH’s Sciatica is not any better, but fortunately not any worse, it seems it will just take time to settle down.

Very cold here overnight, down to 2 degrees, so some heating needed first thing today.

@KjellNN - MiL uses this for inside the house. It normally has a basket in the middle but we didn't need that for this break we're on. It has brakes and also folds with the 2 bars in the middle folding up. She wouldn't be without it now.

@KjellNN I am so sorry to hear that your OH's sciatica is no better. I can thoroughly recommend a visit to a chiropractor. 4 visits certainly relieved mine. Well worth the money to be rid of the pain. I hope you all have a good trip away in the caravan.

Well done to your MIL on that walk. Great photos. I love the photo of 2 very old people helping each other to the Van 😁. I also love your MIL's outfit. I can see what her 'jaded' credit card was used for.

A very chilly breeze here again but dry and sunny all day so all the bedding was washed and dried outside. Garden help coming tomorrow and it looks like another dry and sunny day.😊

@Wherenext That looks a useful wheeled "trolley" can I ask if its a particular brand and where they can be purchased? I need my good hand for my stick and carrying things in my left hand is a bit hit and miss. I have got round the problem by buying a folding oblong bowl with handles, the sort you use when camping but I couldn't get a dinner plate in it. It looks as if the tray is inset, am I right? Its possible that I may have to fend for myself whilst Margaret has her Hip replacement. So anything that makes like easier would help.

@DavidKlyne - Hi David. She bought it from Ableworld, if no outlets near you then try online. It comes with the tray, which can be taken off, and a basket which fits in the middle section that MiL tends to put things like tissue box and bottle of water in. The 4 wheels are flexible not fixed, brakes are good and easy to use and folds easily to fit in a boot or in our case the Van. She has a larger slightly different one for outside, one that's a bit more robust. I'll put photos up tomorrow if you want a view.

We bought this as MiL fell on our last cottage break because she was carrying a cup and trying to use a stick for support.

If you need more info just ask.

@Wherenext thanks for the info. I will look on their website. The physio team were trying to persuade me to have a four wheel rollator but I am not convinced as it doesn't feel as safe as walking with my three pronged walking aid. I might have to bite the bullet as it would serve a dual purpose?
