"OH applied for her Blue Badge on 30th July and it was only granted on 4th September. She sent the requested £20 payment immediately but is still waiting for the paperwork to arrive. Maybe it will be in the letterbox today."
That's what I would have expected in terms of timescale, as well @KjellNN - but it would appear that ERYC have some sort of computerised decision making process, otherwise how could it have been done in such a short space of time. As @DSB says, processes must vary wildly between authorities - and I only had to pay £10! I am told by both the Council and Dept of Transport that if I haven't received it within 10 days - to get back onto them.

@milliehull so sorry to hear about your friend, doubly tragic to hear it was caused by a traffic accident.
OH is waiting for his appointment with his surgeon next week to hear what she has to say before finishing the application for his blue badge. They said there may be walking problems after his previous op and his GP has recently referred him back. Or she may want to see him as a possible issue after his last scan, we just don’t know at the moment. Either way we thought it better to see her before finishing the application form, thinking the more information we had the better. I have heard that Devon is slow in issuing them, probably all the old folk retiring there. Gosh we are a healthy lot on here aren’t we.0 -
....only £10 for us too @richardandros

@milliehull I'm sorry to read the sad news about your friend. Not an easy time for family and friends.
Wow the difference is blue badge applications are amazing, time to process, time to send and price! Not applied for one for OH after his performances 6.5 years ago, but I think it could be on the cards soon. Biggest issue is to be able to open the door wide enough for him to manoeuvre, distance is also an issue, but I have to use every encouragement to get his steps up 😉🙃. I have started a form but bottle it when it asks for information, which we have but has been filed for 6 years and a move.......
Good to read of folks travels and see photos.
Good luck for Margaret's op @DavidKlyne . Good to read you're progressing yourself. Enlist as much help as you can for now and post op. Stock your freezer with homemade meals if you're able to and some ready meals from Waitrose and M,&S for days when they're needed. As my darling late uncle, 96 when he passed, was fond of saying "old age isn't for wimps"......
I hope @heddlo is recovering as expected.
An oral week here, both at the dentist for check ups Monday, all good. Hospital follow up today for OH after lump under the tongue removal in June. As expected a fatty lump, not that unusual, healed extremely well and discharged. Shocked to find a choice of parking spaces on our arrival 🫣, thus we were very early for his appointment. He was seen by a doctor and consultant, same chair without much of a gap inbetween!, and we were leaving the hospital 10 minutes before his appointment time. Delighted we always carry cash and coins as car park machine only taking cash. Only one machine in the main foyer - adjacent cash machine, I watched previous user put a £20 note in for their £3.50 fee. Won't take many of those for change to runout 🤐
Tomorrow is busy, dog has a groom and we have garden help. As well as unexpected appointment with the hygienist at lunchtime. Letter received last week with the appointments. I thought I'd made a mistake in recording but chatting with the receptionist on Monday it wasn't me 🙃, hygienist sends them out. I've made checkup and clean appointment with the dentist for me but he wants OH to see the hygienist for 6 months and it'll all be done in the one visit next time!
I was going on a bat walk around our village tomorrow evening, however it's had to be cancelled as the leader has covid, and she was unable to find a colleague to cover it. Rearranged for 19th, but no good for me.
A another very blustery day here. A shower, we'll that's an insult to the name, then a swift heavy hail shower, which hardly dampen the hard surfaces. Spots of rain hitting the window now. My phone continually shows showers and says rain will stop in the next few hours. We don't have the rain, but the radar images show showers all around. I had to use the hosepipe on some of my plants on Tuesday!

Thanks everyone for your very kind wishes. They are so much appreciated. We are finding it so difficult to realise that we wont see our friend or have Sunday lunch with him again. We now just want to support his partner of over 40 years. I have been friends with her for 50 years or more.and I have already contacted her DIL to tell her to contact us whenever she wants and feels ready.
We decided to cheer ourselves up by going to Sandringham and treated ourselves to lunch in their restaurant and very good it was too. I then left OH to have a coffee while a walked over to the church to have a 'conversation'
@DavidKlyne I am also so pleased your recovery is going well and wish your OH well for her hip operation. I can only reiterate @Bakers2's advice that you get your freezer stocked up with home cooked meals and supplement with ready meals from M&S and Waitrose in readiness.
I also hope that @heddlo's recovery is going well

Really sorry to hear about your good friend @milliehull, such an awful way to lose someone too. I had my hip operation on Monday and came home yesterday. I’ve been in bed most of the day as I feel pretty tired and have a weird upset stomach for some reason. I can’t take any strong medication so I’m just going with paracetamol which is ok, it’s a bit pointless taking anything that makes me feel worse! I will be up and about tomorrow I’m sure when, hopefully, my stomach will have settled down. I have walked around upstairs today but have rested in bed most of the day. 4 hour ‘observations’ in hospital day and night don’t equate to much rest! Many thanks for all your good wishes.

So sorry to hear about you friend @milliehull it must be very upsetting for you both, we send you our condolences.
Pleased to read that the operation appears to have gone without a hitch @heddlo best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Good news about the Blue Badge @richardandros and that your OH's operation date is much earlier than you expected @DavidKlyne
Sounds as if you have had a very busy few days @Bakers2 it's a shame that you will miss the rearranged bat walk.

I think we have had your share of the rain as well as our own @Bakers2 as there have been heavy, but thankfully quite short, downpours throughout the day. We had a sheltered walk along by the R.Tees from Abbey Bridge by the Tees Way, past Rokeby Park to Dairy Bridge at the Meetings of the Waters. Then after lunch we paid a short visit to Egglestone Abbey before heading back to the site via Homebargains and Lidl! Tonight I am enjoying a new, for me, drink, Shibuya Rice Lager, and rather pleasant it is too.

Looked at your photo of Barnard Castle @nelliethehooker - looks a nice site and not one we have been to but it might be one I will be using in the future if our new van servicing arrangements work out the way I think they will.
@richardandros It is a nice site, and there is a good flat path directly outside suitable for you to walk Meg, as well as a dog walking area at the far end of the site. It is a 1/2ml, wide single track road up to the site but there are a few passing places on it, so it is nice and quiet.

Yesterday was the Westmorland County Show. We've been showing there since 1875 when the family arrived here at Strickley. At first it was just butter and roots etc. In 1875 we were Commended for our butter. And by the 1920s we were showing our Dairy Shorthorn cows. We've exhinited every year now for 150 years. So this year was always going to be special. Especially as we are now declared free of bTB. The weather was a typical Septemeber day with sun and heavy showers. But that didn't matter. The sun shone on us, and particularly on
Strickley Strawberry 21st, who not only won Champion Dairy Shorthorn but then went on to be awarded Overall Dairy Champion beating all the other breeds! A few photos and a copy of what my son wrote on Instagram about the day.

What absolutely wonderful news @Goldie146 - especially after all you've all gone through recently - what an achievement! Well done to all of you - your hard work over the years has certainly paid off this time😀
Hope you're feeling better today @heddlo - when does the training for next year's London Marathon start?😉
2 -
@Goldie146 congratulations. After all your worry and heartbreak over the past couple of years it’s very well deserved. What a beautiful cow Strickley Strawberry is too!!
@richardandros thank you but I think I’ll pass on that! 🤦🏻♀️😳

Great news @Goldie146 good news at last and great photos.
@heddlo Glad you are back home and all went well and recovering.
@DavidKlyne Good to hear you are improving and Margaret has a date for her second hip operation next month hope all goes well.
A friend of ours has has knee issues and now cannot drive and using 2 arm crutches to get about as in so much pain he has had a CT scan all the results are basically his knee has no cartilage left hence the pain and his doctor has been on maternity leave and the other doctor said he could not issue paperwork to get a Consultant/Surgeon to look at it as he is not registered with him and his own doctor comes back on 15th of this month and she is fully booked until end of October so he has made a booking after that not good our doctors are in a different Cabinet Medical thankfully.
Sorting things out for our trip to UK.
Have a good weekend folks.

I suggest it might be an idea to break out the Gin @Goldie146. Congrats from me as well.
Lovely surprise when we got home at lunchtime today. An Eviscerated Pigeon in the middle of the lawn, feathers everywhere and the Magpies feasting on leftovers. By the time I'd sorted out things from the garage for disposing of it there wasn't much left.
We were supposed to have plenty of rain this afternoon but part from about 10 minutes it has been sunny with a stiff breeze. Hope those away have enjoyed good weather.
Sounds interesting @nelliethehooker. I must try it one day.

@heddlo Glad the operation seems to have been a success and you are up and about. I seem to recall having similar regards the tummy problem although mild compared to you. When I spoke to the doctor he just said that it was probably what they pump into you to block the pain during the operation, fortunately it didn't last long. I think the only painkilers I was on was a fairly low dose Codeine. Anyway I hope your recovery continues to go well and probably in a couple of weeks you will be back to near normal.
@RedKite I have to say I think your Friend's doctor was giving him a pretty lame excuse with regards to his knee? Perhaps things work differently in France?
David

Sounds interesting @nelliethehooker. I must try it one day.
It was a pleasant drink, but unfortunately for you @Wherenext if has wheat in the ingredients!😶 The rain that you avoided has reach us with a vengeance within the last 1/2 hr!😫

A super result for all your family especially after the trauma of the last couple of years, @Goldie146 Congratulation to all involved, and I hope that the rest of the two days were as enjoyable.
These wonderful looking animals took quite an interest in Flyte as we walked past them this afternoon at Raby Castle. Have you ever considered breeding other breeds of cattle instead of Dairy Shorthorns?

We had a good day out at Raby Castle today. They have done a huge amount of work on the reception area and in the Walled Garden since our last visit. We walked through the gardens and out onto the Deer Park before returning to the car for lunch, when we had a short shower, and then went around the Castle itself.
Reception area.
Access into the Walled Garden from the Deer Park
A view across a little of the WG.
The Entrance and Guardhouse to the Castle.
The Gateway to the Castle itself

Lovely Photos @nelliethehooker somewhere that we've not visited. We really must!
Can I ask about your camera please? If you use your phone, what do you have?

Great photos @nelliethehooker - a looks as is the weather stayed good for you too. Looks like a good place to visit... .must remember it the next time we're up towards the Barnard's Castle area.

@Wherenext English Fizz first - then Gin.
@nelliethehooker I think Dairy Shorthorns are part of our DNA. They’ve been at the farm as long as us. The farm was originally owned by Underley Estate, and they used to lend tenants young bulls to test them out. And it grew from there. Underley sold off a lot of farms in the1940s (death duties) and we were able to buy.

Envy you your Raby visit @nelliethehooker quite a while since our last visit, and the gardens look different.
Your family day at the show certainly went well @Goldie146 fantastic results, and coming hard on the heels of your other great news.

Wonderful photos @nelliethehooker We love Raby Castle as it is OH's home area. We used to drive past with the children many years ago to see the deer when we were staying with FIL. OH's aunt and uncle are both buried nearby with a view of the castle. I envy you your visit.
Congratulations on such a successful day at the show @Goldie146 Well deserved. Great photos.
We arrived home from the coast yesterday. That road gets busier and busier! What used to be a journey of about an hour can now take up to 2 hours on a bad day.
Sorry about the above post. It suddenly froze and wouldn't let me carry on or delete it for some reason ☹️
Moderator edit: Manged to delete the post above @milliehull 👍👍 - David (DSB)

I am trying out a recipe for Greek Lemon Roast potatoes……..😋 Home grown spuds as well👍

Thanks @Bakers2 I just use my phone, nothing special just a Samsung Galaxy A12. I do use the edit facility both to size, and straighten, the photos and adjust the contrast and sharpness etc if I think the basic shot needs it. Raby Is certainly worth a visit, although it is not cheap. There are acres of Deer Park where one is allowed to walk with your dog, as well as the Walled Garden and the Castle too. I would think the ideal time to visit would be around July/August when the gardens would be at their most colourful.
@Takethedogalong there has been a huge amount of work done in the Walled Garden and around the entrance and Reception area.
@DSB there a fine cafe situated in the Vinery, the glass-fronted building to the left of the Reception in the first of my photos, which can be accessed without having to pay to get into the estate.

Pleased to read that you are home safely after your Norfolk trip millie (no red, sorry) we too have kept a look out for the deer whenever we have past Castle grounds.
We have had frequent showers this afternoon and evening but did manage a dry walk from the Site down into Deepdale Nature Reserve this morning, and I managed to dodge them on my afternoon walk after the NZ/S.A. game.
Hope your Greek spuds turned out a success @Takethedogalong 😉

Thanks for all the replies. Home safely after a wonderful week in Norfolk with such brilliant weather. It was significantly higher than home and for the first few days at around 24C with the last part being 21C with only rain on late Wednesday evening.
Sitting by the River Ant with a glass or two watching the boats go by was awaming, equally amazing was having our own boat and we made daily use of that even for a short trip out. Cromer was excellent as always.
This was my view from my favourite spot for sitting out and an early morning coffee and 'our' boat, the 'cottage' was to the right up along the grass.
