It sounds and looks idyllic @Cornersteady We were also in Norfolk last week and enjoyed the lovely weather. Definite change in the weather here today - wet and very chilly. Strong winds are forecast overnight and for tomorrow. Autumn has definitely arrived.

We've had so much wind lately. Much cooler. We are now having proper rain 😀 and puddles.😀😀😀. Didn't start until.mid afternoon after another false start of window wetting, which is all we've had for several weeks. There's been no wind today a lovely change..means the rain is coming straight down.
Had a lovely dry dog walk this morning. Beautiful across the fields, some winter wheat already coming through. Definitely getting autumnal. But still lots of swallows and the blackberries are beautiful 😋. Met some horses and riders, first for a while. Not seen these folk before.
I looked and saw our water feature was running dry. Dressed fast! Relieved that there was a tiny amount to keep the pump running. Took 18 litres to refill it. We've had it for almost 20 years and this is this year I've needed to replenish it weekly. As its cooled a bit I eased up - too much!

I love the Mini @Francis. I had 2 over the years a long time ago. First a red one and later a white one. I have never seen one in that green colour though.

@milliehull it was lovely very low miles and only 2 family owners from new. We have a mini as our runaround but it’s one of the newer ones and looks a lot bigger compared to the original ones

Well we managed to get 3 weeks away at our caravan and, hopefully we will be doing it again next year as more relaxing than keep packing up. OH wasn’t too bad with the longer than usual stop. Next year I might go on my own before OH joins me so I get an even longer stay. The weather wasn’t too good, rain most days, just a couple of completely dry days. However it must have been much wetter here. I put some of my plants in buckets and found the buckets to be full of water, with the pots swimming, the neighbours said it hasn’t stopped raining all the time we’ve been away. Torrential rain all the way home.
We called into the garden centre for lunch and I had a quick look in the sale area of their shoes and clothes as a couple of months ago I got a nice pair of sandals in their sale. At the beginning of the season I saw a lovely pair of strappy sandals there but at £34 I rejected them. Same pair today £8 in their late season sale. So my bargain of the year. They won’t get worn this year but will be tucked away for next summer. I felt quite sad unpacking and putting all my summer clothes away for this year. First wash load done, only 4 more to go but it might have to wait if forecast correct it will be too wet to dry outside.0 -
They sound just the type of bargain that OH relishes, well done with your purchase @DEBSC Good to hear that your OH wasn't too bad with your 3 week stay at the Caravan, and that you have got home safely.
That Mini brings back memories @Francis as OH's first car was a blue D reg Mini. There are certainly some other lovely looking vehicles in your photos.
From your photos @Cornersteady it is obvious that you picked a near perfect location with matching facilities.
@Bakers2 you appear to have a super crop of blackberries down your way, they are nowhere as abundant up in the north. It takes quite a bit of effort to collect a decent amount.

Thankfully it has been less wet than originally forecast although we have had some heavy showers since 5.00 this evening. We move up from Barnard Castle to Brandon Ford CL at Powburn, with only a short holdup south of Newcastle because of a collision (a rearend shunt really) blocking the middle lane in the restricted section. This is the first time on this site but hopefully won't be our last. I had an hour's walk before our evening meal up onto East Hill, which overlooks the site.
The ford after which the site is named.
The view across to the site from East Hill, with the River Breamish CC Site in the trees behind the lake.

@nelliethehooker I have picked lots of blackberries. Some eaten, some frozen. Dora loves them of the bush! These I saw today and tasted some - delicious 😋. Might pick some more tomorrow, I don't really know why I didn't this morning before this rain! We have an equally good crop of hips and haws and sloes here. Bad winter on it's way???
@DEBSC glad you're home safely and you managed a bit longer away. Hopefully you can build on it. Fantastic bargain on your sandals - I'm never that lucky.

Arrived at West Ayton site yesterday - about 1.30 - and I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised. Decent sized pitches and the Warden's had very kindly reserved one for us close to the SP - which together with a serviced pitch, makes for a relaxing stay. Despite the weather, it's looking absolutely pristine with very attractive flower tubs etc all over the place and the layout is far more interesting than the usual rigid row of vans around in a circle!
Despite the site is so close to home, we have avoided coming here because of a neighbour we don't particularly get on with who comes here regularly. What can I say - he's very loud and is a walking illustration of the Argos jewellery catalogue with more gold round his neck than probably the Bank of England has at the moment! I won't say any more🙄.
Anyway, managed to get set up and although I debated about it because of the weather forecast - put the awning up and finished before the rain started. It's now blowing quite hard but we're OK since our spot seems to be very sheltered. Having a lazy day today, catching up on yesterday's papers and no doubt the Kindle will be out later!

@richardandros we like the West Ayton site we spent a week there in April our first fvisit since the refurb. Like you say a good layout and close by to the coast. Recommend the pub at the bottom of the hill they do a lovely meal at a good price
Enjoy

@Francis we had a day out at a Classic Car Show as well yesterday, at York Racecourse. Some very nice stuff, as usual. Glad we got there fairly early though, by 1pm cars were heading home trying to beat the forecast rain. Most did, we had a leisurely drive back via Selby to avoid the A1/M1 mayhem, and it was pouring it down by time we got home at 4.15pm. Even contemplated lighting stove last night, definitely a cooler evening. We both put a jumper on instead🤭

I think we had the same rain as you did @Takethedogalong but through the night. It stayed mainly dry until mid afternoon but we could see, from Corby Crag's car psrk, the showers passing through towards The Cheviots while we had lunch.
We paid a visit to Edlingham Castle, the ruins of a 13/14C fortified Manor House, the main remaining structure being the Solar Tower, which was abandoned in tge mid 17C.
Close by is the medieval, 11th C, St John the Baptist Church which occupies the site of a Saxon church.
After lunch it was essential shopping in Alnwick before a rainy walk around the Brandon Lakes, which abut the CC's R.Breamish site.

@richardandros enjoy your stay at West Ayton, and I hope that the winds are not strong enough to cause any damage to your awning. It is not one of the CC's sites that we have visited yet, although it sounds interesting, being different fro m the norm!😆

Had a day out yesterday - took Carol's mum over to Ludlow for the day. She had chance to test out her new electric scooter!!! Quite a tiring day with her speeding off infront with us "running" (well, walking quickly!! 🤣) behind.. trying to warn all the pedestrians on the footpath.. 🤣🤣 By and large, we escaped the showers. We did drive up to Clee Hill on the way back, with views over towards the Malverns....

@nelliethehooker it looks like you are enjoying Northumberland. Lovely to see the Breamish valley again too. Brandon Ford was one of our favourite CL’s as it had serviced pitches. Does the newer area have them as well? They were just discussing the extension part on our last visit. We are looking at some cottages close by in Branton and hoping to get a few days away later in October. Love the area. Enjoy your trip.
@DSB has Carol heard anything more about her hip surgery yet?

Thanks for asking @heddlo - I'm afraid to say she hasn't. It's all a bit of a nightmare tbh! She rang up the hospital last week, and felt that the secretary wasn't very helpful at all. They don't seem to be able to geive a timescale at all... 😢

Well yesterday was the final day of my post discharge home visits from the Ocupational Therapy and Physio teams. That six weeks seems to have flown by. I can summon more help if I feel I need it but I imagine it won't be as comprehensive. They did bring me a four wheel Rollator a couple of weeks ago (a wheeled walking frame with a seat) trouble is I didn't feel that secure using it compared to my stick. They do have their advantages in that they encourage better posture whilst walking. As I would have had to buy my own I am still thinking about it! The last act of the team was to simulate a fall and getting up from the floor. My recovery from that was pretty good but then I probably have better core strength than many of a similar age? It also depends on where and how you fall, so not a completely foolproof exercise? I had a fall in the re-hab centre but also recovered well from that albeit my bottom was a bit sore! It's mainly down to me now and how much effort I put into my future recovery but by all accounts it can be slow. Currently I am concentrating on getting back into routine, everyday tasks like a bit of light gardening and things like emptying the dishwasher. Margaret is a bit protective of me doing new things so I have to demonstrate that I really can do tasks.

@DavidKlyne - that's sounds like you are making excellent progress - plus you sound very positive and determined about it all - which I suspect must be half the battle. Keep it up and good luck! Sadly, a friend of ours who had a stroke not so long after you has more or less given up and we are concerned as to his future.
Well - what a difference a day makes. After yesterdays strong winds and the rain lashing down for most of the day, we woke up to sunshine and it was actually quite warm. Went to North Bay in Scarborough (we hate the other end!) and had a little stroll on the prom and I sat on a seat while Ros took Meg on the beach. But - Princess Meg was having none of it - Dad wasn't there - so she wasn't going anywhere! She just dug her paws into the sand and sat there and stared back at me - no doubt wondering why I wasn't coming down to play🤔
After a coffee, we had a drive up to the moors to see what devastation the fires had done and it was horrendous - but I couldn't take any photos because the restrictions were still in force and no stopping was allowed. Couldn't believe just how close the fire had got to the NYM site and (as reported on here) found it impossible to believe that some of them on site - when they were told to evacuate immediately - were delaying everyone's departure by pestering the Warden's for a refund!🙄

The mindset of some Members does beggar belief at times @richardandros 🤨

@DavidKlyne Good to hear that you are slowly getting there, you sound determined which is good. Your fall procedure reminded me of when I was looking after my old Dad I kept worrying he would trip over his fireside mat that he refused to let me pick up, he was rather stubborn. He then reminded me that he had, when younger, a black belt in judo and used to teach the sport, and that he knew how to fall. He was 90 but I then worried a little less.
OH is very grumpy today, he has a bad back, not sleeping well and is resting. He is the worst patient and my patience is rapidly running out. I’ve been tidying up the garden it is looking very autumnal out there.1 -
Apart from a brief shower, it has been a lovely sunny day here. Work in DD’s garden is progressing well, all old stuff removed, new topsoil ready to distribute, hardcore for beneath new patio area in place and compacted, small retaining walls now constructed.
We were at her house to meet with the guys who will fit some new guttering for her, she had to be on line for her job, so now waiting to hear how much it will cost. It is only a 5.5 m piece, but has to be a fancy shape to fit in with what is there at present……an Ogee shape apparently.
OH is still very poorly with this Sciatica, a lot of pain, especially getting out of bed. Painkillers are having little effect.
0 -
Good to hear of your continued progress @DavidKlyne Fingers crossed that the OH's sciatica will see some improvement @KjellNN - Carol is in a similar state with her hip.... the painkellers seem to be having little effect - and she seems to be on every painkiller known to man!! ☹️

We had visitors today. Brian, who lives in Hampshire, and I, along with others, established the Southampton Canal Society over 50 years ago (now disbanded) We used to organise working parties on the Kennet and Avon Canal. Brian, like me, has not had the best of health recently with one hip replced under normal circumstances and he othe due to a fall. He now seems to be getting on ok. He was staying with his son who lives at Tring who kindly drove them over to see us with his daughter. She has spent much of her working life working as a joyrnalist in Hong Kong. It was good to catch up.

@heddlo both the CLs are fully serviced with their own set of waste facilities, and both of the sites are full tonight! Hope you are able to get away, and that the weather is kind when you are up here.
1 -
Good to read that you are progressing well @DavidKlyne keep it up.
I hope that your OH's Sciatica eases up @KjellNN and she is soon able to get around pain free, and the same applies to both Carol @DSB and your OH @DEBSC
I am amazed that members did not immediately evacuate the NYM site when instructed to do so, @richardandros for I know that I would want to get as far away as possible from the danger, regardless of any loss of fees. They would be insignificant compared to the cost of replacing a burnt out unit, as I think one's insurance company would not look favourably on any claim should you have i ignored an instruction to leave.
