What are you all up to

Yet again we had rain through the night, but woke to a fine sunny and breezy day perfect for getting the washing done and dried! A late departure lead to us lunching in the carpark before visiting Chillingham Castle. It was not quite as spooky as the last time we were here, then on a rather dull cloudy day. It is well worth going to see, but unfortunately they do not allow dogs in the grounds, not even in the woodland walk! There is just too much inside for a few photos to do it justice, just go see for oneself!!

Some commotion going on in MiLs craft room.
"What are you doing" says I
"Trying to kill that moth on the window with this (fly swat) but the moth is too small"
"That's not the reason why you can't kill it"
"Why not?"
"Because it's on the outside of the window! Go and sit down before you do some real damage to yourself with that thing"
Never a dull moment around here.😁
Waiting on a man to arrive to try to fix the cooker hood extractor unit. Everybody and everything seems to be falling apart here. Stay safe and sane folks.

Lovely photos, once again @nelliethehooker - can't believe you are just using your phone. I bought a new Canon Digital SLR a couple of years ago and have hardly used it after I found it impossible to get it to 'talk' to any of my computers and thereby download my pics - even after spending ages on the phone with Canon UK.
Like you, we had torrential rain overnight but, fortunately, it stopped in time for me taking Meg out so neither of us got wet. Think we're going to have to cut short our stay by a day - 45+ mph winds forecast for Sunday (according to the BBC!). I'm reasonably happy towing in winds up to 30 mph - but 45 is just a bit too much and not worth taking the risk when we don't have to.
Had a good chuckle at your post @Wherenext 😂 - suggest you go and hide somewhere in the peace and quiet until sanity returns🙃

@richardandros re your Canon camera, with both my Canon SLR and my G16 I just take the memory cards out of the cameras and download to the computer storage via the card slot. I think both cameras are WiFi enabled but I have never used that method.

Busy day here today up early as my Mercedes’ was booked in at the specialist over near Edinburgh for a service and MOT it’s a bit of a distance to travel but been using this garage for years and they are Mercedes specialists very good. No issues and no advisories so that was good news going off the road at the end of this month for the winter still can’t complain had fun with it this year visiting some great car shows and making use of the folding roof in the good weather we all enjoyed during the summer. Hoping to get away in the van soon for a weekend just local

@Francis that's good to hear and I hope you get away soon. We will be down your way for 6 days at the end the month.
Our grandson sent us this photo taken on the playground at his school the other day. Have a close look at the number plate, and the houses in the background.

It has been rather wet today and has now turned quite windy. We had a walk from the site this morning around the Branton Lakes Nature reserve and then after lunch around Ingram, with a visit to St Michael and All Saints Church, which has a Norman tower although the remainder of the building dates from the mid 1800s.
During a late afternoon walk, with Flyte, the sun was quite low and showed up these interesting field works, old river terraces, & ridge and furrow.

@richardandros I hope the next forecast for Sunday indicates that the winds won't be as fierce as it previously showed and you can remain for the full extent of your planned stay.

@DavidKlyne @richardandros same here (I have a 5D Mk4), though I have a PC desktop and laptop, and both have SD card slots for exactly this purpose (downloading photos). If your Apple doesn’t have a card slot, or the camera only uses CF cards, then you should be able to use a card reader. Alternatively, connect the camera directly to the computer via the Canon cable supplied with the camera. You might need an adaptor. FYI - written by OH as I know nothing about cameras!!
@nelliethehooker lovely pictures of Chillingham; it’s always been damp and gloomy on our visits (and spooky), nice to see it in the sun.

Mixed day weather wise here as well @nelliethehooker. Had to wait in for a repair man. The extractor fan over the cooker stopped working the other day. He duly arrived mid morning. New board needed. Fortunately he thought that be the problem and had one with him. Then we had to wait in for our new Campervan man. We had a separate non urgent problem with the ill fated cooker but he was in the area and called in. He'll source a replacement but as said it is not urgent.
Afternoon in town catching up with all of the jobs that needed doing, including picking up the balance of MiLs meds from last week. Is it just me or is there a general countrywide problem with accessing meds? Both of our pharmacies seem to be playing catch up.
Enjoyed your photos of the rally the other day @Francis. Good to hear that the servicing etc went well.

@DavidKlyne and @heddlo 's OH - thanks for the suggestions. Using the direct lead connection was the first thing I did - but even then, neither computer 'sees' the camera, which is weird. I have all the correct EOS software installed and I spent an hour on the phone with Canon UK, some time ago trying to sort it out. Even that didn't sort it. One suggestion was that the firmware in the camera needed updating - and I haven't got round to checking that because by then I was losing the will to live! I think that's unlikely though, given that it was new when I bought it not that long ago. My previous camera - a 450D, I think - was fine.
What I haven't done is use a card reader because neither of my Apple machines have them built in so I need to try that. Obvious really, but neither I nor Canon support, thought of that! Thanks.

Great pictures, once more, @nelliethehooker - glad you are still 'out and about'... It will be a few weeks yet, before we get chance to get out in the caravan.
Tbese days, I'm afraid I just rely on the phone for photos.. it's less kit for me to carry, and tbh, it generally does a fair job. (I still have to resize the photos for CT, btw. For some reason, my phone produces very large files for photos).
It's a vehicle week for us this week... Caravan went in for some minor adjustments this week - including an additional TV aerial point at the front of the caravan - just another option for us (in addition to the bracket on the wall near the door); and bringing the wasre water connection points out further towards the side of the caravan. (The exisring points were quite difficult to get to.)
Car also went in for service and MOT. Thankfully, all was well.
Just off to the caravan to do a bit of cleaning this morning... 🙂

@Wherenext thanks it was a good day out that was the last show of the season which is a shame but there is generally no big shows on during the winter as most people have their classics tucked away in garages over winter (me included)
@nelliethehooker where are you planning on basing yourselves while In our area I don’t think there are many CLs around here although we do have 3 club sites The Ranch Ayr Craigie and Strathclyde Park we use them all on a regular basis as our weekend haunts and all good in their own way

@richardandros OH again! Just another thought. I have an Android phone (Pixel) and it will not connect directly to my computer(s) on the USB cable link. However, I have to tell the phone to use the USB link for file downloads, and then it releases the block on downloading photo files. Perhaps there is something similar that is required on the Apple machine to permit the transfer (in settings). Sorry this must be boring for anyone else! Apologies.

I’m probably teaching granny to suck eggs @richardandros but with a (cheap non-Apple) card reader I can xfr photos from a camera card or memory stick to Files on my iPad or direct into photos on my Mac. I suspect you’ll have the same success if you try a card reader.
1 -
Thanks @heddlo and @Tinwheeler (and @DavidKlyne) - and no you're not teaching granny etc. - I'm kicking myself for not having thought of the card reader solution before - and even more amazed that the techies from Canon didn't suggest it. Just goes to prove the power of this Forum!😋 I've now ordered a card reader from Amazon (their "Choice" recommendation) for the princely sum of £3.99. So - even if it doesn't work - but I'm sure it will - I've lost nothing. I'll find out when we get home on Sunday. Thanks again to all of you.
Had a nice morning out at Filey today. It's one of our favourite places around here. In all the - must be - 70 years I have been going there, it's never changed - still the little genteel, civilised seaside town it always has been. Didn't manage to get on the beach though - and give Meg a romp - parking on the sea front was chocka so we went on the cliff top car park near the Brigg and since I can no longer make the steep climb down/up on the road by the boat club to the beach had to make do with a little walk on the top - after we had a coffee.
Then our treat!!!!😄 Whale and Chips at Harper's at Staxton and - once again - we weren't disappointed😀😀

you’re welcome @richardandros.
Nice pics. What model iPhone have you got? I’ve been reading the specs on the 17 range and thinking about it. My current 14Pro still does very well apart from the usual battery degradation so……🤔

Packing day. Taking MiL for a short cottage break. Hope she manages to keep out of trouble on this one.
We've had a lot of rain in the last few weeks so I've spent a bit of time giving physio to my right hand by completing a new jigsaw. After the first few hours I felt like giving up and admitting defeat but perseverance won out.
Strangely @richardandros I've just had a problem with downloading photos from my old camera, a Panasonic that was put in the cupboard after my Stroke and now just returning to service. I used to have no problems at all but the Image Catcher had somehow disappeared during an update presumably. I just have to make sure I change the photos out of jpeg status. Nice photos from yours btw.

Spent the morning sat in the hospital with OH, both X-ray and surgeon appointments for him were exactly on time, quite impressed, especially as it was so busy and very difficult to park. Surgeon said there is little that can be done about his pain in his hip when walking, it’s a side effect of his aneurism op some years ago. Maybe more regular gentle walking just might help a little (good luck with that, it’s what I keep telling him) She did suggest a blue badge might be appropriate to help. The phlebotomy department had a long queue time, it seems many local GPs are sending patients to the hospital for blood tests, I know last time I needed one there was a five week wait at GP surgery, the next day at the hospital. It’s really no wonder hospitals are busy with difficulties at Drs surgeries.
Police Officer at the door this afternoon, he wanted to check our camera at our front door for a date over a month ago, fortunately what he was looking for, a particular car, seemed to be there. He took lots of details, don’t really know what it was all about or if we will hear anymore. A few of us in the cul de sac have cameras and they were checking all the houses with cameras, so quite intriguing. We are a quiet little road but it’s not the first time all the cameras have been checked. Good job OH was home cos I wouldn’t have a clue how to get the image up.1 -
@richardandros great photos we love Filey we were there again a few months ago when we were at West Ayton great place but a climb back up from the beach to the town as you say we usually have a pint in the Three Tuns when there

@heddlo as you can see it was bright and sunny for our visit this time and it was not nearly as spooky as the first time, but we knew what to expect. I would suggest for a first visit to pick a dull gloomy day to get the full atmosphere of the place!😁
@Francis we are stopping on a CS near Maybole, opposite Culzean Castle, a new one for us. Did you manage to suss out, roughly, where the photo of the Mini was take?
Nice photos again @richardandros, glad it was much drier for your trip to Filey, and that looks a fine if rather difficult jigsaw @Wherenext, well done, & we hope MIL enjoys the cottage break and that nothing untoward happens.
Good to read that the car past it's MOT without any problems @DSB. Have you any idea where you will be going on your next trip?

A bright start to the day so OH was able to get another round of washing done before we left Brandon Ford. It was a bit of a windy tow but no problem, and even windier on site, so washing dried well!!. The site is fairly busy with an roughly even mix of caravans and M/Hs, with a few tents too.
This is a view of Barns Ness lighthouse from White Sands from my afternoon walk.

@Tinwheeler - it's a 16 - only had it a few weeks and still getting my head round the camera bit. It's unusual for me to have a current phone - I usually go for something a few models back because of the cost. However, Ros was complaining that her old SE was too small and wanted something bigger - so, seeing the opportunity, I generously offered her my previous 11 and said I would have to get a 16!! Once having done that, she complained that the 11 was too big and complicated and reverted back to her SE!! I see that the 16 has now been reduced by £100 after the 17 came out and I don't think there's that much difference between the two.
@DEBSC - I'm very interested in what the surgeon said about your OH's hip. I'm convinced that most of my hip / knee / back problems seem to start - or at least got much worse - after my by-pass on the aneurysm behind my left knee about 5 years ago. I mentioned this to my consultant and he didn't dismiss it. Although, in itself, it doesn't explain the severe osteoarthritis I have in those joints, I do think the limp the op left me with has put more strain on those other joints.
Although the threat of strong winds on Sunday has abated, I still think we'll leave a day early - weather forecast for the weekend is pretty rubbish. At least, we should be able to pack the awning away dry today.
Well done with the jigsaw @Wherenext - very impressed. Don't think I would have the patience to do that🙄

I knew I shouldn't have typed that - as in my penultimate paragraph above. It's now piddling down!😥 Thank you - BBC - for another accurate forecast🤔.

Thanks @richardandros. I found the camera zoom on my 14Pro amazingly good and I see the 17 can do even more. I suspect I’ll end up keeping the 14 a bit longer yet…..probably.

@richardandros when OH had his op 6 years ago the surgeon and his nurse warned him that this could happen. No option but to have the op. His nurse, who says it how it is, I’ve great respect for her, said he should try to walk through the pain but it may get worse with time. Now for someone who loves to walk this may have partially worked. But for someone who has always hated to walk anywhere it was just too easy to give up. He had two ops in two days. The blockage now is called caldification.0

Leisurely start to the day, finishing packing before setting off to the Peak District to a cottage for a few nights for MiL. We broke the journey twice, firstly at a garden centre just off the A555 near Poynton/High Street. This is when I found id forgotten my bank card holder 🤒. Fortunately OH had remembered hers. We also left the Blue Badge in the runaround. OH stated that a list will be reintroduced forthwith. Who can blame her?
From there we headed over the hills to Chatsworth Farm Shop for our second break and a decent meal plus some goodies for later.
Arrived at a lovely cottage, new to us, and really well set out to accommodate MiLs mobility issues. Views from one side on the hill to the other across the dales, not far from Matlock.
Weather forecast for tomorrow doesn't look good but we enjoyed warm hazy sun today and the rest of the stay looks like mostly dry with showers.

That looks a really lovely cottage @Wherenext. Pity about the Blue Badge. We have done that as well 🙄. I hope you have a good few days with no mishaps.
We met up with daughter yesterday for a snack lunch and to have a catch up and today grand-daughter came to ours this morning with new great grandson - such a dear little soul - he is definitely taking shape now. This afternoon I took advantage of the lovely weather and spent a couple of hours in the garden giving it a good cut back and tidy. The brown bin which was emptied yesterday is now full again!
I hope you have a good and safe trip home @richardandros

It has been a dry day, cloudy at times, but still warm. We paid a visit to Haddington for a short walk, a look at the remains of the 12th C St Martin's Church, of which only the Nave remains, and then some shopping before returning to the site, which appears to be about 1/2 full. We did have spectacular sky around 7:00 this evening, and I am now enjoying bottle of Wainwright's Amber, as it says on the label "Worth the Walk"!
The view from the van this evening.
