It’s been there a few days now, but no one else had mentioned it. On home page, at the top….

@DSB we visited Sandringham house during the summer when we were staying at Cromer had a great day out it was great to see inside the house and have a nice walk around the gardens. We used the fast check in for the first time last week when we stayed at Strathclyde Park they have recently installed it there. It was very easy to use but like you we found it a bit strange not going in to the office

Had my two-yearly visit to Specsavers in Beverley, this morning and got some really good news. I'd been putting it off but thought that with all the fuss on the media about older drivers and eyesight, I ought to go and get it checked. Delighted that my eyes haven't altered at all in two years - are both perfectly healthy (I had the extra OCT test) - and - that the beginnings of cataracts that were first discovered last time, have changed so little in two years that the optometrist considered that it would be probably another 10 years before anything would need doing. Plus, she told me that with my reading glasses I had much better than 20/20 vision. Add into that I was able to park virtually outside the shop in a DD bay and it was an excellent start to the day😀.

@DavidKlyne I think I remember you saying that Margaret has her hip operation this week. Wishing her all the best and hope all goes well. 4 weeks post op myself today and thankfully after antibiotics my wound is looking good and I’m managing to get around indoors a lot more. I know she has been through it all more recently than me but, as the physio said to me, just trust the process. Please look after yourself too David, my OH has found looking after me pretty exhausting. Fortunately for you, your family are close by, so hopefully you will be able to get them to help out, I’m sure they will. All our best wishes.

@DSB (won’t go red!) love the pictures in Norfolk, beautiful weather.

@DavidKlyne if Margaret's hip operation is this week I wish you both well and hope you get plenty of help.

@DSB Lovely photos. Like @Francis we also had a wonderful day going round Sandringham House and gardens when we were staying in the area a few weeks ago. The church is also worth a visit.

It is the 18th birthday of one of our grandsons today and we had a lovely family meal out on Saturday evening to an Indian restaurant in town. We decided to get a taxi to save the hassle of trying to park the car in town. It was quite an adventure for all us grandparents to be out in town on a Saturday night!

    Beautiful weather here today.

@heddlo Thanks, Yes, well remembered. Her operation is on Thursday (she has to be there for 7.15am!) Not so straight forward as March because of my issues with having the stroke, I just hope I can look after her, will get some help from the boys as well. Being on a Thursday we are not sure when they will let her out. When she had the other one done at the Saxon Clinic she was only in one night! At least she knows what to expect. We also have extra rails on the stairs which should help. I think she is more concerned this time round and a bit shocked how quickly the operation as arranged!

Ended up being a busy day. Dropped the ladies off at Tesco. MiL decided that she didn't want to go out scruffy so we had to wait a while. This is what the Sartorial Savvy Nonegerians are wearing this Autumn.😂👍️

    Elma Oct 25.jpg

I nipped into town to pick up Meds and return books to the library. Went back to pick up the ladies and where did I find MiL? In the clothes section! Is it too late for retraining?

This afternoon we've been trying to sort out a new online banking account and called into Solicitors to begin sorting out Power of Attorneys for ourselves as well as getting a copy of the certificate in force for MiL. A few other admin things to sort out with regard to Care services.

Good luck to both the Klynes. Just think of it as Physio @DavidKlyne.

I generally don't need to open the front page so I assume Ttda is referring to Club Together appearing on the top line strap. Otherwise I'm at a loss as to what has changed. Is this right?

Glad you survived @nelliethehooker , close call with the tree🫣 I think you are on a site we like, in D&G? Hope it’s stays better weatherwise for rest of this trip for you, I will be in touch.

Yes you are correct @Takethedogalong we are back at The Brough, but unfortunately the weather hasn't improved very much yet! By the looks of the weather forecast it will be better for us up here from Wednesday, although we did see the sun for a short while in the late afternoon.

This was the view around lunchtime, after our morning walk along part of the Raider's Road, looking across a driech Clatteringshaw Loch.

    20251006_130602.jpg

I did manage an afternoon walk down onto the village and here is it's War Memorial with flooded fields behind.

Grand photos again @DSB, it looks a lovely day at Sherringham. Enjoy your stay down in Norfolk.

Good news about your eyesight @richardandros I hope I get a similar result when I go to Specsavers after this trip, but I can't "see" it being so!😁

@Wherenext please tell your MIL is looking very smart in her "County" outfit.

Hope all goes well with Margaret's operation on Thursday @DavidKlyne and that you both are able to manage when she gets back home.

I received a message from our next door neighbours this morning informing us that their house had been broken into while they were away at their static caravan this weekend. 😯 The thieves had accessed their garden from our's over the dividing fence, and then smashed a glass to gain entry when they couldn't force the patio doors. Both he and the police have had a look around our house but thankfully nothing appears amiss. We will find out more tomorrow when the key holder gets in and has a look around, fingers crossed that all is well.

@nelliethehooker I do hope that everything is ok with your house.
@DavidKlyne wishing Margaret well with the op and that you manage when she’s home.
@Wherenext MIL looks very smart and fashionable from top to toe - especially for a 90 year old. She does have a lovely cheeky grin.
A quick drive down to the beach for a walk this afternoon, it came over very grey and there was a chilly wind. Nice walk though. OH decided to come to make use of his blue bade which arrived today. I think that he was just a little disappointed that there were parking spaces available outside of the disabled area 😊 He sat on a bench while I got my steps in.

@Wherenext your MIL looks very stylish.

This is a photo of the cake our daughter made for our grandson's 18th. There is some cake somewhere under all that chocolate!

Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better and able to get around a bit more @heddlo . Hope all goes well for Margaret on Thursday @DavidKlyne - I'm sure it will and you sound as if you're improving steadily day by day. I have to agree with @DEBSC , @Wherenext your Mil does have a cheeky grin and she looks extremely sprightly for someone of her age. Just out of interest, is there any room for your clothes in your house?😀. I had a count up of drawers in both bedrooms and the so-called "ironing room" and the spilt was about 80/20 - but I won't say in whose favour🙄. At least the study is all "mine"!

Lovely sunny day here, yesterday although still quite windy but it looks a bit calmer this morning. Waiting for plumber to arrive this morning to fit another kitchen tap - this time at the utility end and then will be taking Ros into Beverley to the dentist this afternoon since she's getting in a tissy about where's she's going to park mid afternoon since it's always a nightmare at that time of day.

Thanks for the good wishes for our Norfolk trip, everyone. Might have a visit to Sandringham House @Francis - I'll see what Carol thinks.... We went to Strathclyde before the days of automatic check-in. Enjoyed our visit there, although my lasting memory was of the road noise... 🙂

Now that's what I call a cake, @milliehull 👍👍 I'm sure he will enjoy it!! I was going to say 'Thanks for sharing....' 🤣🤣🤣

@DSB we use Strathclyde as one of our regular weekend haunts as it’s only an hour from home. We like it nice spacious site and right next to the park which has a lovely walk around the lake. You are right there can be road noise but it doesn’t really bother us but there is no denying you can hear the road but it’s in a great location for travelling on somewhere else as the Motorway is literally at the site exit. Enjoy the rest of your stay in Norfolk

@Francis : The road noise at Strathclyde didn't really upset us, as such.... it was just memorable... 😀 If I remember correctly, we stopped there on our way up to Grantown-on-Spey.... 🙂 Whenever we go that way - usually on the way up to Lewis with Harris (without the caravan) - I always feel guilty adding to the road noise.... 🤣🤣🤣

@richardandros - Wardrobe Space = 20% OH, 20% Me, 60% MiL.😏. Not kidding either. Still, it's good to see that a spark still glowing in her. She's been through a lot but still trying (in so many ways🤣).

    @milliehull - that's not a cake, that's a Government Health Warning against Diabetes.😀

@nelliethehooker - very worrying. Hope you get good news from key holder.

Taxi service this afternoon plus visit to Solicitor.

@Wherenext bless her heart, MIL looks a lovely lady, very smart too! I don’t know how complicated your POA would be but we did our own, and paid the required fee, it was much cheaper than using the Solicitor but ours was pretty simple. Had to laugh over the wardrobe space!!

Thanks @heddlo, we've been thinking along those lines since speaking to them late yesterday afternoon. I think @nelliethehooker did his and his OH online as well. Solicitors did mention fees going up soon.

We had to pick up a copy of the certificate for MiL's POA whilst she was at the Chiropodist.

@Wherenext I did both mine and OHs POA. It wasn’t difficult, as long as you get all the signatures in the right order. I found printing the paperwork off and filling it in in pen and at my own pace easier. Having said that our neighbour happened to be having his done by a solicitor at the same time, (I only know because he asked us to witness his signature), by the time he’d got all his signatures done ours was returned completed before his.

@wherenext just a thought. If you have a copy of MILs it will act as a guide for you and make the filling in much easier.

Better here this afternoon than it was in the morning, even some blue sky and sun, I have been in the garage working on a present for the in-laws for their golden wedding anniversary, a hopefully useful Sweet Chestnut fruit bowl .

Yesterday OH captured me to do my tax return, which resulted in the bad news that she reckons the bill will be much larger than usual due to me only just going into a higher tax band 😟.

Allowances up here are much less than in England, and tax % higher too. I used to be able to get some of OH’s unused allowance, but no longer it seems, plus my bank interest allowance has been cut, so a triple whammy!

A “cliff edge” has been reached apparently, so despite only a small increase in income the tax will be much more. Will be able to put more into my ISA next April, which should help in future.

We have quite a few things that need to be done in the house and garden in the next 12 months, so the bank balance will soon be much less anyway!

Some bad news from DD today, one of their budgies is going to have to be put to sleep. He has been a bit poorly for a while now, made a couple of good recoveries originally, but is now just going downhill, the vet says there is now no hope of a further recovery, so they are all very sad. We will bury him up in our garden, where all the previous ones have gone over the last 25 years.

OH is not making much progress with this Sciatica, that is at least 6/7 weeks she has been suffering now. There have been a couple of days when the pain was almost gone, but next day it was back. Painkillers are not helping much.

We are off on the next part of our last break of the year soon, 10 days visiting the Lakes and my friend in Wales, so had been hoping she would be better by then.

Thank you @DEBSC but we only have MiLs certificate. Hers and FiL were made in 2007 along with our Wills by the same Solicitor so we thought it best to leave our POAs for a little while. I think 18 years might be enough of a gap.😀 especially as we know that Health problems can kick in at any time.

I've downloaded the forms so will take my time filling them in. I have no choice anyway as my right hand writing is a slow process.

@KjellNN - sorry to hear of your OHs continuing problems. Is her GP sure it isn't a trapped nerve somewhere?

Just a thought about your OH's sciatica @KjellNN - might it be worth your OH trying to get an appointment with the physio at your GP surgery? They might be able to suggest some exercises which could help.

Cathedral shop duty this morning where a large number of children from schools in the diocese where rehearsing for a concert this afternoon. It was so lovely to hear them. A trip to M&S this afternoon to take 2 items back and pick up another 2 items. Hopefully these 2 will be a success 🤔

A grey day here today - no sign of the sun. I don't think there is much chance of seeing the super moon this evening.
