It has been dull here for most of the day. We headed over to Wigtown today, initially stopping off at Kilsture Forest for a walk before lunch. It is an excellent place for finding fungi, with lots of dead and rotting trees. Then we called in at Torhouse Stone Circle before parking at the Martyrs carpark, at Wigtown, for another walk, this time along the old line by the Machar.

@Wherenext Our trip to NI is as well as the family coming over to us in a few weeks - they will be sick to death of the sight of us!
It has been a cloudy, dry but mild day here. We went for a walk with OH and a rollater that son had borrowed. The autumn colours were lovely. The Canada Geese have just arrived but sadly I didnt get a photo of them.
Some photos including the view accross Strangford Lough from their house, a corner of their garden and gathering sloes

Grand photos @milliehull especially of the Lough. Hope you had no problems at the airport on the way over.
It has been mostly cloudy today, although the sun did show its face for a short while, but not for as long as forecast. We left Garlieston at 10:00 and arrived at our current CL just after noon. There is just one other caravan on this site, whereas the section we were on at Garlieston was over 3/4 full. Flyte and I had a few short walks after lunch while OH did a round of washing, most of which is hung around the van at the moment drying off.

What day. Margaret contacted me this morning saying they had said she could come home today. She did the stair test fairly early this morning which is always a prerequisite of being discharged after a hip replacement, It has taking all day to get the discharge letter and she finally arrived home this evening. She seems to be doing really well. One of our son's is staying overnight as he has for the last couple of nights. I know people, including me, like to be in their home environment but we have to be careful.

Hi David ( @DavidKlyne ) - Great news about Margaret. All our good wishes,
David

@DavidKlyne - pleased to hear that Margaret is back home and all went well. Good that you have a son nearby who can help. Just be careful - the pair of you!
@moulesy - surprised we haven't heard from you after Rover's win yesterday - and completing the Treble. Perhaps you're still celebrating??😀

@nelliethehooker Airport Assistance not very good at Belfast International airport as we had to wait for over half an hour ( along with 4 others) to be collected from the aircraft. Most annoying. Ground crew blamed Ryanair. Apparantly they didnt alert them that they were needed
@DavidKlyne good news about Margaret. Good luck and take care.

@DavidKlyne good news about Margaret. Both take your time in your recoveries, but stick with the physio.
@milliehull sorry about assistantance at Belfast airport. It seems disabled get a very rough service with transport, as so many things. The BBC reporter Frank Gardener has much to say on the subject and rightly so! But it doesn't seem to.help.
It's thick fog here this morning. I'm surprised as we have little ground moisture! I can't see the school across the school field next to us!. Just spoken to son and family, he's off to do the Peterborough run, going on the bridge over the A1 they could hardly see the 8 lane plus hard shoulders 🫣. I hope the course is well marked 🤣
2 -
@Bakers2 good luck to your son and everyone else for the Great Eastern run. They go past our house so hope they dont get lost! SIL not doing it this time (not long enough for him apparently 😁) Daughter is doing the 5k.

@DavidKlyne pleased to hear Margaret is home. More restful than the hospital 4 hourly ‘obs’!! Take it slow and get rest, both of you.
@Bakers2 good luck to your son and the run today, hope they can see where they’re going! 😶🌫️@milliehull have a good time with the family. The pictures are lovely.

A bit to late to edit. I must add we are 5 miles, by road, from Holme which is the lowest point above sea level at 9 feet.
It was misty here a few mornings ago, but as I walked out of the village up the hill, it got thicker 🤣.
Good luck to all the runners today, wherever they are running. I know there's one in Chelmsford to today. Apparently the weather is clear there.

Well, we manage to get through the first night at home. I am a bit surprised at how mobile Margaret actually is. I think the next problem will be stopping her being too ambitious! Simon was back at the hospital first thing to pick up some extra medication, he put it in our kitchen whilst we were all still asleep! The hospital Pharmacist phoned this morning to explain about changes in medication over the coming weeks, lets hope its all sunk in.
@milliehull can I ask is the airport in Belfast what used to be called Aldergrove? If so the only flight I have ever had was from Heathrow to Belfast in ,I think, 1966 when I went on an Irish Linen Course, it was an interesting visit!

@DavidKlyne I'm having real problems with using the @ today, have tried umpteen times, it just won't work.
Anyway, I'm so pleased that Margaret came home yesterday and it sounds like she's doing very well. But as you say, be careful that she doesn't overdo it. Very best wishes to both of you.

Yes it was @DavidKlyne! It used to be RAF Aldergrove. Yes I can imagine it was an 'interesting' visit at that time. So pleased to hear all is going well for you both and that you have family help.

Still coming down to earth to be honest. What a season! Had to be glued to the TV yesterday, no easy trip to OT from Wiltshire. To be honest, I thought it might be a game too far. To think just 10 years ago we were relegated from super league and just 5 years ago came rock bottom. Pleased for the star names, what a player Mikey Lewis is, and Jez Litten very underrated. But above all for Elliot, what a leader and he's seen some tough times. Off to Wembley in a couple of weeks for the Ashes opener - going to be a great occasion!

We went to a posh Afternoon Tea today for my sister in law’s 80th Birthday. The photo doesn’t reflect all the age range - just six of our generation - as her children/grandchildren/great grand child were there.
P.S. mine’s the short one!

Love it!!

Sorry to hear that all was not what you hoped for at Belfast Airport @milliehull I think a very strongly worded email to the management there and to Ryanair is called for. It might not result in any compensation for yourself but perhaps it might result in a better service in the future.
It has certainly been an extra-special year for your team @moulesy. Enjoy your trip to the Ashes opener at Wembley. I wonder how many of the HKR side will now figure in the England squad.
Good to hear that Margaret is managing so well already @DavidKlyne it should make things a bit easier for you going forward.

Like you @Bakers2 it started off misty here, obviously coming in from the Solway. We decided to head inland and drove up to Lochmaben and thankfully it cleared up on the way. We had a pleasant walk around part of Castle Loch, as far as the ruins of Bruce's Castle. After lunch drove back towards Lockerbie, stopping off to pay our respects at the Garden of Remembrance for the victims of Lockerbie Disaster, before getting some food shopping done in the town. The sun had been out much of the afternoon but the mist came in again this evening.
Looking across the loch from our lunchtime seat.
The castle is surrounded by fencing to stop access, so these are the best views of part of it that I could manage

Not good service at all @milliehull but am I surprised? No. Lovely photos.
Nothing much going on here apart from everything going on here, if you get my meaning. One small thing begets a bigger thing etc. Gas engineer tomorrow morning, then Covid jab Wednesday. 2 weeks ago OH mentioned that the calendar was free this week, maybe a couple of walks/outings? Might get a walk in when coming back from Covid jab. Otherwise week is full.
Wonderful work @Bakers2. Well done, you've put a lot of effort in. I know, still more to come but I'm sure you'll do it.
Hope those gallivanting elsewhere are enjoying themselves.

A bit of a turn up.for the books today - by our recent standards...
Went to a different optician in a different town for OH as I've noticed him squinting when shown things. He's also suggesting a new TV 50inch 🫣🙄. He even said to our son recently, want a TV? Purchased shortly before we moved. Granted we have a larger lounge now. Apparently he even told son I'd suggested it 🤣🤐. Son somewhat sceptical.
We both had our eyes tested for a 2nd year at the same practice but different optician. I felt he was very impatient - especially noticeable with OH who is much slower to respond since his stroke.
Good news his prescription hasn't changed. The glasses he was wearing are 18 months old, tester in January suggested a slight tweak - we declined. But he has cataracts bad enough to be referred immediately and borderline for driving. First weve heard of them. I know tgey can develop quickly..…He's not been driving since his stroke 6.5 years ago perception issues not visual. Back next week for optician to do more tests before referral.
@Wherenext I completely understand your description of time and free space. I thought it was just us!
I haven't done any more gardening since tackling 2 large flowerbeds on Friday. OH was threatening to do the remaining front bed but it didn't materialise yesterday
Thick fog which didn't clear to mist until gone noon didn't inspire him
Son managed PB for Great Eastern Run so he was very pleased. Good conditions for running. Driving unbelievable folk with no lights except daylight running 😡😡
We woke to a murky wet morning. Very fine rain at times.. I even felt spots on my face dog walking. A novel experience. Continued ocassionally throughout the day. The sort that does the garden good.

@Bakers2 I hope that the further tests on your OH's eyes lead to quick resolution on where or not he needs an eye operation. Well done to your son on his Grest Eastern Run time.
Sounds like a busy week for you @Wherenext hope you are able to fit in a walk on Wednesday.
It was another grey, misty start to the day and it didn't clear much around the site until this evening, but funnily enough it was clearer down at the coast, the opposite from yesterday. We did a circular walk at Powfoot before lunch and a second one down by the "harbour" at Annan before completing this week's shopping.
ThIs fine vessel was tied up, high and dry, in the offshoot from Annan Water at the wharfe that forms the harbour!

Dull but at least dry here all day yesterday, looks like it will be similar today. Fed the budgies and posted a couple of items for DD. They are now settled in their static at Duinrell until Saturday, but the forecast for the area is poor. They had a good trip down to Hull, traffic very light, and a smooth crossing to Rotterdam. The boys were very excited to be going on a boat overnight!
OH spent some time on the phone yesterday afternoon, telling our insurers that the car insurance was too expensive, and managed to haggle them down to less than we paid this year, so a good result.

Had an email from Tesco Pharmacy the Wirral to remind me about my COVID appointment this morning. So set off with enough time to get there. Arrived and met with a confused member of staff. "Am I sure it was COVID not flu?" didn't inspire a lot of confidence. Showed them the emails etc. Pharmacist will be back in a moment so waited and sure enough he came back and thankfully confirmed appointment. I can see why Assistant was worried as Pharmacist confirmed he only had 2 shots of vaccine left, 1 after mine, and staff wanted to make sure all boxes ticked.
No ill effects whatsoever so we went for a walk for a few hours afterwards. First day this Autumn for hat and gloves. Overcast here all day but no wind.
Stressful day yesterday with the fitting of the new hob. The gas engineer did a good job taking the redundant piping away but there was some woodwork to be done before fitting finally made.
2 -
@Wherenext same here with the hat although we forgot the gloves! We had a trip out to Flamborough Head today and it was breezy and chilly up there but great to get some fresh air, and believe it or not some rare (lately) sunshine! Our Covid and Flu jabs next week.
@DavidKlyne hopefully all going well with Margaret, nearly one week down so fingers crossed.
I saw my hip replacement surgeon on Monday after having had so much trouble with the wound for 5 weeks. It has now healed and he was happy with it now but he said it didn’t quite look as he thought it should after 5 weeks and agreed that, unfortunately, I had a bad reaction to the glue he used instead of stitches or clips. One comment he made was ‘I wonder if I should not use it’, thank you for that, as it’s been a right nuisance! It did seem strange to me to use glue on such a large wound and one that is constantly being disturbed and distorted - sitting on it for a start - and I’ve only heard of skin glue being used on smaller wounds. I will see him again in about a month when, hopefully, everything will look better. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤦🏻♀️2 -
@heddlo Thanks for asking, yes she is making very good progress. Lots of bruising now whis is probably to be expected and her operated leg is a bit swallon which again is not unexpected. Fortunately she has followed my advice and is having an afternoon lay down which may help. She is getting around really well and not always with her stick. We have not yet ventured out but if we do I suspect it will be with crutches. Clips are out a week on Friday. Thus far I would say recovery is even better than last time but of course early days and normal life is often a bit different from the initial recovery period? Hope you are getting on ok with yours?

It was very misty and dull for most of yesterday, although the sky cleared very late on. We didn't do much, just a few relatively short walks from the caravan. It was a better start to the day this morning, but still cloudy with very little wind. We packed up and were away by 10:30, after OH had done another round of washing, moving onto a CL near Hexham that we had used earlier in the year, as there are a couple of places we wanted to visit that we didn't have time last time. The sun came out for a short while this afternoon and hopefully it will be fine tomorrow. Sorted out our car tax online tonight without any problems, apart from having to pay it!!
Good to read that you got out for a walk today @heddlo and that your wound has now healed.

@heddlo I'm pleased to read your wound is healing. It does seem to be a very large vunerable area to be glued rather than stitched/clipped. Let's hope it continues to heal nicely.
@DavidKlyne good to hear Margaret is progressing well - and resting..I trust you are too.
First non murky day here since Friday, pleasant change. I'm still in shorts but suspect I won't be for much longer.
Lovely walk, across the fields, lots of bird life. However, my PF is very uncomfortable again. That'll teach me to say it's improved when asked. I spent some time planting up a pit of hyacinths for beside the front door in the spring. Then I sowed 2 packets of sweetpeas into toilet rolls, which I've stood in plastic muffin boxes with lids, and put in our south facing greenhouse with the lids closed. Never started them myself. Why 2 packets? Couldn't decide between the varieties 🫣.
Swift lunch and then school run. Grandson set up some track track, a great fb find 😃 soon after we moved, we still have, in its original boxes, our sons Brio so he's able to go large! Then he and grandadcrack the Hazel.nuts we were given from nextdoors bush. He didn't like them. He then swept the floor and pushed all the bits of shells down to sweep. I think the long handled set were novel 😉. He stood them by the wall to carry on shelling - muttering I don't suppose anyone will notice what I do 🤣🤣🤣.
He then asked if he could help me dish up dinner! Which he did - decent work ethic for a 4.5 year old.
Then we packed up and took him home for his bath and bed. Having made plans for his sleepover and day with us in half term 🫣

Weirdly David I had hardly any bruising this time and the consultant said that may have been part of the issue with the wound as, apparently, the bruising helps the healing. I have had the swelling but as you say it’s not unusual in the early days. Glad all going well. Keep resting both of you.

Just got back from filling up both Safefill bottles at a little independent garage about 10 miles away - in readiness for our trip to Lincoln on Sunday - staying at @Skybarn Farm CL again. Filled the car up at the same time and saved 7p per litre on diesel compared with our local Tesco's! (9p, based on yesterday's prices!!) Just goes to show how much profit these big organisations are making.
I also have a confession to make!! Since it hasn't been cleaned for months - since the hosepipe ban was introduced - the van was looking a bit sorry for itself - so I decided to wash it……using the hosepipe. I invoked our registration on the 'Priority Services Register' which exempts us from the ban. Probably used less water than trying to carry bucket after bucket of water onto the drive - and since Tesco's car wash and the 'Polish' one in town are doing a roaring trade simply because they are commercial, I felt I could justify it just this once.
Don't get me started on water companies, charges and dividends paid to shareholders🤨
