@DSB At last good news and hope all goes well for her.

A friend of ours who has been trying to get his knee done at last had news last week it will be done in Toulouse Hospital next Monday 27th and Consultant Surgeon is a knee and hip specialist and he will be going to a rehab place in Gourdon for two weeks after surgery at least that is not far from here compared to Toulouse so hope all goes well for him.

@DavidKlyne Glad to hear you are improving and Margaret also from her hip operation.

On my Volvo we had an ABS fault show up on the dashboard. I booked the car in for a diagnostic check however before we got to the garage it cleared itself. Nevertheless I still took it in, the result came back as a mechanical fault not electrical. The technician thought it was a probably detritus got between the sensor

The guys finish the roof repair, they were just packing up when it poured down

Great to see all the photos

@DSB thats good news, not long to wait. There is some expertise on here now if you have questions? 🫣😳😂 Of course everyone will be different! The first couple of weeks are the hardest, then another month of care so perfect timing for Christmas.

We ccertainly have a fair few Hip Hoppers!!!! Obviously everyone is different but as I mentioned Margaret was up and going to the loo on the actual day of the operation. Having had the other hip done in March she knew what to expect. She was telling me that a couple of ladies in the same ward actually fainted when they got them out of bed for the first time which surprised me a bit, I don't think I have met anyone who has had a hip replacement that doesn't think the results are brilliant compared to what they had to put up with prior to the operation. There will be some short term discomfort for a few days as it all heals. On Friday Margaret goes to the surgery to have her clips out which will probably resolve most of the discomfort she has had.

@Wherenext hope that all gets sorted out at the dentist on Wednesday and you are able to fit in your visit to the Arboretum. You will of course be spending your day around Cheshire Oaks when you're at the Chester site, won't you!

You just can't trust these BBC weather reports, @richardandros when you want them to be wrong, by a few hours at least, they are spot on! Enjoy your time at Sky Barn.

Grand news @DSB and although it is a shame that you have had to cancel your visit to Hawes, it's much more important that Carol gets her operation done as scheduled. There will of course be many more days when you can get to the Hawes site.

Hopefully the removal of the clips will make life a lot more comfortable for Margaret @DavidKlyne

Short afternoon out for us today, a micro brewery then one of Yorkshire’s finest cycling/walking cafes for a late lunch. Iconic bit of cycle mania, painted up for 2014 Tour de France, one of the big screen hubs out on the route was close by with thousands lining the local roads. First visit for me, but OH has been a good few times. Delicious and very varied food, all made on the premises. Close to Langsett Reservoir and Flouch Inn roundabout where you head up across Woodhead Pass, if it isn’t blocked by snow!🤭 It wasn’t today.

We returned to the CL that we stopped at earlier on this trip, at Exelby near Bedale, Melgoats @Wherenext

After about 12hrs of rain we woke to a dry if misty morning. We drove round to Easby Abbey for a walk along the old line into Richmond before lunch and then came back via Tesco and Aldi at Catterick Garrison.

A rather fast flowing River Swale from the railway line bridge.

GGood News @DSB just need to avoid all the germs and viruses - or get rid of them before the date.

Good to hear from you @Takethedogalong .

    Lovely photos @nelliethehooker

Busy Saturday here, family for dinner but I was out with WI for a visit to MAGPAS air ambulance. Very very interesting. They are very protective of their name - Mid Anglian GP Accident Services. Rightly so established by GP's 50 years ago to send doctors directly to accidents so treatment could begin immediately, not by air at that point. They now have their own building with fantastic facilities the helicopter and 4 vehicles. Lots learnt, land ambulances preferred to get to Addenbrooks as the helipad needs to be met by an ambulance for a 10 minute transfer! It takesappro 15 minutes to secure the patient for flying and as long to unsecure so almost half an hour delay. Sadly, by exciting for us the helicopter was called out and we were able to watch. They aim to be in the air within 3.5 minutes of receiving the call. They were very close to that.

TThey train paramedics and doctors from all over the world. To prove the point the paramedic going out was Australian. A supervising doctor and 'learner' with 10 years experience but not at the actual accident site. Fantastic service that takes £6 million a year to keep it going. Our son has done 2 half marathons this year to raise funds for them.

Today to the opticians for OH. Drops and checks and referred for cataract surgery. Then hair and beard trim..managed to eat out as well 😉

Tomorrow we had one thing on the calender, my move it or lose class. But by 0930 I'd added my emergency dentist appointment. My cracked tooth, getting on for 10 years nurturing it from getting worse, showed itself Saturday. By lunch time the car valeteer had asked to move to tomorrow rather than Thursday because of the forecast. Now 3 things! Early evening, builder asking if he can come after work to do some measuring ready for quoting for fitting the kitchen. 🤣🤣.

Do others have this issue? in theory Thursday becomes a free day....... 🤞🤞🤞

It’s been a busy few days. Flu and Covid jab booked for Saturday but I had a heavy cold, OH went but I thought better of it, the nurse booked me in to have it in early November when OH explained my absence, so that was ok.
Yesterday we travelled to Plymouth, stopping at IKEA on the way as I wanted some spice racks and we need a new loo seat for the caravan. Sunday, raining, it was heaving! We queued for ages to get lunch but we needed to eat. Then on to Plymouth to a Travelodge, not a bad night but goodness their pillows are so hard.
Today was graduation day for our granddaughter. A truly lovely day. She is smiling and looking so happy in every photo. We had met most of her uni friends before so lots of hugs and catching up, all lovely youngsters. Lots of shout outs from family and friends to all the youngsters as they crossed the stage. But I have to say when it was our granddaughters turn and she wheeled across the stage the applause and shouts from her family, especially her sisters, all her uni friends and some of her lecturers was almost deafening. It was lovely to hear. A very touching and proud day for us all.
Afterwards we went for a very nice meal to end the celebrations. She can’t usually eat out as she has so many allergies but a discussion ahead by her Mum and the restaurant catered very well to enable her, and us, to enjoy the meal. We were all tired after a long journey home but such a nice day.
She was told so many times that it wouldn’t be possible for her to stay at uni and achieve this and today she smiled and said, Well I did it!

@DEBSC - What a coincidence - Ros's sister was at the same graduation ceremony, yesterday - to see her grandson get his degree. She travelled from Worcester to Plymouth and since she doesn't get out much these days since her husband died, we haven't heard yet how she got on.

@DSB - great news about Carol's Op - give her our best wishes and I bet she'll be so relieved to get it over and done with. I'm still waiting to see the Consultant to hear what he intends doing about my hips. My biggest concern is that even if I had both done privately, nothing's going to sort out my lower spine - so would I actually be any better off? That's why I need to talk to him!

@Bakers2 - Sounds like you had an interesting and exciting day with the air ambulance. I, too, am full of admiration for what they do across the country. When I worked for St John, one of our volunteers - who left school with no qualifications whatsoever - through a lot of hard work and dedication, eventually became an A&E Consultant for the NHS and now works in Sunderland - and is also a volunteer with the North East Air Ambulance. Don't quite know how he finds the time to do everything.

@nelliethehooker - passed on your greetings to Nicola at Skybarn - and she remembered Flyte very well - especially his fringe!! Lovely photos once more😀

Internet is really poor here, at the moment - both Virgin Media and 3 network.... don't know what's going on...!!

Thanks for all the good wishes and comments about Carol's hip operation news, folks. @RedKite. Hope it will all be firework free, @DavidKlyne. 😀 Too true about CT being the place to get expert advice @heddlo Hip op's seem to be common among CT folk at the moment. Glad to hear that all are doing well... and good to read that folk are still managing to get out and about in RV's... thanks for sharing the photos, once more...and for the good wishes, @nelliethehooker - I'll pass that on. I think she'll be keeping clear of most this next couple of weeks to avoid the germs, @Bakers2. She is in a lot of pain at the moment @richardandros - Hope the consultant manages to sort out a plan of action for you soon too...

We're off to York later this morning. No caravan, but a night in a hotel. Its to go to a gig - The Divine Comedy at York Barbican. I booked tickets way back in April and it's (maybe) the highlight on our list of gigs this winter.

Do you use Instagram? If so, have a look at @StrickleyDairy account to see what we're up to. Sorry if this is advertising! And our website which has the videos.

OH had another blood test early am out and done just about 8am also nurse showed him where to put his new blood sugar monitor as she said also type 2 diabetic and yet another gadget although medical one this time and he has read everything about it.

@Goldie146 enjoy your gig tonight sorry to say not heard of them but did look them up on the web, and good luck with your milk venture.

Will sort some photos of our holiday in the UK and post later on with OH's help and seems longer than 2 weeks since we got back home.

Now got the wet and windy weather but garden needs it, also collecting some plants ordered from our local nursery just across the road and a field so they will wait until next week and better weather.

@DEBSC - your post brought a big smile to my face. Just goes to show what can be done with willpower (plus brainpower😁). How many hankies did you go through?😂 The whole family must be floating on air.

Up early this morning to get to hospital for my Inoculation jab but I was thwarted as the nurse wouldn't do it as its too close to after having my COVID jab. So a return visit in a fortnight. She did take some blood so trip not completely wasted. I then had to nip into town to pick up meds. I was in there yesterday and as soon as I got home a text arrived saying meds available. Typical. Anyway, all sorted.

Back home to complete packing the Van with no name as we're off to meet up with some friends on Thursday. Just finished when the heavens opened.

Enjoy your night out @Goldie146. We like The Divine Comedy.

Sounds like a good day out at the Air Ambulance @Bakers2. They do great work, just like the RNLI, only on land.

@richardandros You mention about having hip surgery privately. From what you say you do need to have a conversation with a consultant. What |I would say is that you could have that consultation done privately with no commitment to have the operation done privately. The cost would be in theregion of about £250 plus any scans/x-rays. Margaret had her first hip done privately simply because she was in so much pain and she couldn't even get an appointment to see a consultant let alone get any sort of date for the op. Contrast that with the second hip where the appointment and operation came round so quickly her feet hardly touched the ground!

Interesting decoration on the Face @Takethedogalong pleased to hear that you had a good day out.

What an occasion that must have been for your granddaughter, and the whole family @DEBSC a huge congratulations to her on her achievements. I wonder if she knows @richardandros SIL's grandson.

Have a good time in York @Goldie146 I must have a listen to The Devine Comedy as I am not familiar with them.

A great day out with the MAGPAS by the sounds of it @Bakers2 all those sort of services do a fantastic job. Well done your son in raising money for them.

Enjoy your your days away @Wherenext hopefully it won't be too wet and wild while you are off in The Van.

Looking forward to seeing the photos of your trip to the UK @RedKite

@DEBSC congratulations to your granddaughter 👏👏👏. What an example she shows us all 😃. I'm so pleased you andtge family were there to witness the support and pride from her fellow students. Fabulous that you had a meal afterwards too. Like @nelliethehooker I wonder of she knew @richardandros relation.

I got through my chaotic Tuesday, but forgot to tell the builder I was home from the dentist 🤔 so we'll need to sort that again.

I was dreading the dentist. Not the person, he's absolutely wonderful and gentle, a fantastic find, but I dislike teeth in any shape or form. Luckily I'd no pain and apart from whilst eating my nightguard saved any accidental knocking of cracked tooth. No injection, numbing gel, a good wiggle and tug to get out the cracked part. A strong temporary mend. Sort of rebuilt that edge of the tooth to see how it behaves before next decision as discussed and taken. He showed me the broken part, I looked even though I didn't want to. As he said a perfectly healthy tooth. The nerve appears intact too so fingers crossed. He said he sees lots of cracked teeth with amalgam Fillings, it's too hard and doesn't give. He said IF it comes to removal it'll be oral surgery - it's a wisdom tooth with a slight twist to the root. So let's hope it all settles down.

I think the total relief caused my memory loss about the builder. Mind you i syspect he didn't finish as early as he'd hoped.

The forecast says we're in line for a grotty day weather wise tomorrow, so I must make the most of today! @Wherenext I hope you manage a decent outing inspite of the forecast. A change of scenery is always welcome....... Just find a sheltered spot and take your waterproof gear.

Many, many congratulations to your wonderful grand-daughter @DEBSC What an inspiration she is. You must all be so very proud of her.

Such great news about Carol's hip operation @DSB You must both be very relieved to have a date at long last. All best wishes.

I would love to know which dentist you go to in our area @Bakers2 as I am not desperately keen on the lady that took over when our wonderful dentist retired a couple of years ago. I hope all goes well with your tooth from now on. Your visit to MAGPAS sounds wonderful. Such an amazing organisation. When I worked at a health centre about 40 years ago and MAGPAS was in it's infancy one of our GPs was a MAGPAS doctor and every so often in the middle of surgery he would get the call and have to rush off. It did rather throw the appointments into disarray but everyone understood.

More great photos @nelliethehooker Richmond and Easby Abbey are OH's home patch. We spent a lot of time there when FIL was still alive. No-one left there now unfortunately. I particularly like the photo of the River Swale. The photos brought back some very happy memories.

Now on our usual CL in North Wales, 3 units on site.

Easy run yesterday down M6 from the Lakes, just over 2 hours, despite a fair bit of lashing rain. Sunny when we arrived and not bad today either. Had lunch on arrival then went over to see my old friend near Ruthin. Will go over there again this afternoon, and likely every day till we head home on Sunday.

Having lost his wife, after a short illness, just over a year back, I reckon he is very lonely. He does have a lot of good friends locally, but says he finds the evenings very long.

DD and family had a good holiday in Holland, no doubt we will hear all about it next week. They arrived home around 2pm on Sunday, good run from Hull, and no doubt the washing machine would have been put straight to work!

They are very pleased with the finished garden paving and turfing project, so we now need to get their temporary fencing back in place while they make a plan for a permanent screen. Still the terrace balustrade to be measured up and ordered, plus cladding for their damaged brickwork, and a gate made for the new bin store…….all that will be down to me to do, with their help, though some of it may have to wait till next spring.

@richardandros sounds like a great day. I wanted to get there for the poppy display, but I didn't manage it 😢.

Those Merlin engines are so distinctive and give me goosebumps. I was born in the 50"s so not any direct memories. We often have them over us. I think there may be one based at Connington airfield. The old USAF Glatton. Named to avoid confusion with RAF Coningsby.

You were very lucky to be there for the fly past @richardandros, the gods must have been smiling on you. Super shots too.

Your garden is looking grand @milliehull with the lovely Autumn colours. Glad I have been able to bring back good memories for you.

Good to read that you had an easy, if rsther wet run down to N.Wales @KjellNN Safe journey back home on Sunday.

Hope that you get sorted out at the Dentist @Bakers2 and you don't have to go through oral surgery in the near future.

@richardandros yes there were three presentations that day. The first one was leaving as we arrived and the last one arrived as we left. I think they were for different studies. Our GDs was Education. Of her group, apart from the Masters degrees, there was only one lad and we know him well. At the primary school GD is presently training at there is only one male teacher. Maybe most men prefer to teach at upper schools.

@DEBSC late congratulations for your grand-daughter.

@DSB Thought you might like the 1st sets of photos as I included a picture of local church organ near where were staying.

A very wet day here 25.1mm of rain and strong winds but did ease off before we went to Cahors for OH's Cardiology appointment all good Cardio doctor very pleased with him, we got there early so we could park as it does get busy, then shopping for some diy bits and food shopping seemed a long afternoon as it was nearly 6pm when we got home.
