@Wherenext you are right in thinking that we completed our POAs ourselves. As we don't have an operational printer I requested paper copies from the authorities which duly arrived, and although I did make an error it was soon sorted out and at no additional expense either.

@milliehull we have a clear sky, at the moment, and I can plainly see the supermoon through the front windows, even with a light on in the caravan, but better with it off. We are fortunate with being at the edge of the Galloway Dark Sky Park. That was a beautiful cake that your daughter made, looks much too good to eat, but I guess it soon went down a treat!

Hope that your OH's Sciatica eases up at least before your next trip @KjellNN

Glad to hear that you were able to get your steps in today, @DEBSC I might not quite make my total today but we will see shortly.

Just catching up after coming back from our French trip. Had a great time, weather good, apart from last Saturday and Storm Amy. It was very windy; fortunately we only had about 70 miles to drive to the site near the Tunnel, as we'd pushed on the day before, while there was no storm, so we wouldn't have a great distance to cover during the storm.

@DavidKlyne All the best for Margaret's hip operation tomorrow. It's also good to read that you are making progress. I would imagine you're bound to have some days where you feel you aren't getting anywhere, but from reading your posts you appear to be doing well.

@heddlo I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling that you're making the progress you'd like. But at least the anti-biotics have done their job, so with the infection cleared, it should make you feel better.

@DEBSC I'm sorry to read about the problems your GD had, but she certainly sounds a very strong young lady, and very determined, you must be very proud of her.

The BB scheme applied for by some appears to be somewhat of a postcode lottery from what I've read on here.

I've enjoyed looking at all the lovely photos posted by various people and also reading the various trip outing descriptions. @Wherenext your MiL really looks marvellous for her age, and with a cheeky grin on her face on that photo!

Yesterday's visit to the top end of Hunstanton and then on to afternoon tea at Sandringham. Didn't get chance to go around the house... it was either the house or afternoon tea.... didn't have time to do both. Something to do next time we're up....

    @InaD and others

Thanks for the best wishes for Margaret's operation tomorrow.Having had the other hip done in March you would think it all a bit of a process but I sense a few nerves from all, not just Margaret. Previously she was only in one night but suspect the NHS won't be as quick to discharge although I somehow doubt they will want to keep her in over the weekend but we will see?

Good to hear that your trip "over there" went well, that you missed the worst of Storm Amy, and you are home @InaD

Looks like more good weather @DSB and more grand photos. Have a safe journey back home tomorrow.

Hope all goes well with Margaret's operation tomorrow @DavidKlyne and that she is soon back home.

It has been a dry day, even sunny at times, with a gentle breeze, just right for getting the washing, which OH did before leaving The Brough, dried outside. Had an easy tow down to the CC's Garlieston site, a new one for us, where we used our free night acquired when we stayed at Balbirnie. The total for the 6 nights has worked out at around £22:50 per night, which is not much different from what we have paid on some CLs. The site itself is only about 1/3rd full tonight. There is a bit of concern on the warden's part as it is the night of one of the very highest tides of the year, and he expects that there might be a bit of flooding around 1:00, so he will be out inspecting the vulnerable pitches. Hopefully we are far enough back not to be affected.

From this afternoon' walk, looking across towards the site from the harbour.

@DavidKlyne I feel for Margaret being nervous, I was much more apprehensive about having this second one done than my first. I think knowing what to expect doesn’t always help! I was in for 2 nights with mine, same as last time. I’m sure all will go smoothly and I know she will be relieved to have it over. Best wishes and take care.

@InaD pleased you had a great time in France, we keep hoping to get back there next year sometime but no decision made so far. I’m doing well now thank you, nearly 5 weeks, and hardly need the stick indoors. Wound still slightly problematic but I’m sure it will be ok soon.

    Great pictures @DSB and @nelliethehooker .

A few hours in town yesterday sorting banks etc out and looking, unsuccessfully, for a new display cabinet. Our old china cabinet is dark wood and now looks out of place in our living room. Our son’s solution - chuck it all out! He means my precious china! Our granddaughter is working in a school a couple of miles from us and is living 3 miles in the other direction. It was afternoon as we journeyed home and we were looking out for her to maybe take her home after work. I then saw the bus at the bus stop on the opposite side of the road and her waiting, I thought that she was waiting for the ramp to be put down for her small motorised wheelchair, so we carried on home. Only to find out later that, as there was already a wheelchair passenger on the bus the driver couldn’t take two and had to leave her behind. Rather than wait another 40 mins she went home under her own steam. ‘Why didn’t you ring us for a lift’ I asked. ‘You said you’d be in town’. Not our fault but I did feel rather guilty. Life really isn’t easy for the disabled.

I may have told this tale before so forgive me its my age. Every time someone mentions Hunstanton on here memories flood back. We lived in Northampton for a while and used to sometimes visit for the day with our young kids. Our son was about 5 and had played on the slot machines, disappointedly without winning. As we were about to get in the car to go home he visited the gents with OH. Apparently as they closed the loo door the penny entry machine fell off the door spilling pennies all over the floor. Our son came out of the gents with his pockets bulging, shouting. I won, I won! He’s 52 now and it still makes us smile.

@DEBSC - Adds a whole new meaning to "Spend a Penny".😂 Don't worry, I've not read it before.

@InaD - lovely to hear from you. Bet you didn't think this year would turn out the way it has. Probably thought/hoped you might get an operation before the end of the year and would buckle through on holidays until then. Glad you had a good time.

@heddlo - Won't be long before you're following suit. Sounds like things settling down now.

Had a nice long lunch yesterday spent in the company of my cousin and her husband. Time went so quickly even though it was the best part of 3 hours. Nice food, lovely setting, fair weather. Mind you OH and self were shattered come 7 o'clock last night.

Shopping this morning, nice and quiet. Got home and ordered a new Induction Hob to replace the gas one. Will have the gas man around next week to disconnect matters. Had to order some extra pans as most of our existing ones are not compatible with Induction. We have ordered a converter for a couple of ones I don't want to get rid of. Tbh some of the other pans needed replacing anyway.

Off later on today to have my 4 monthly appt with Kidney consultant. There shouldn't be any surprises as I now get almost instant access to my blood results and full explanations of any highlighted areas with possible solutions. As I had bloods done last week I know that most things are more or less unaltered. I was put on a new tablet about 12 months ago, one that had been used in a trial for Diabetes 2 sufferers. As a side consequence 47% of participants (40,000+) had shown a slowing down of deterioration of their kidney function so I was offered it. Since then my eGFR, which is basically how well your filtration system in the kidneys are functioning, so really how healthy your kidney are, has remained constant just over the limit for Dialysis. First time in 30 years it has done that for a full year. So maybe the new tablet is working. I hope anyone with Diabetes 2 has been offered it as well as those with kidney problems.

Really busy couple of weeks. Went down to Hampshire to visit family. Left a week last Wednesday, packed the van, then found the motor mover controller, changed batteries, still no joy. Got underway and all good till I got to MK then the start of road closures. 4 sets of closures with a total of over 70 miles of diversions!
Got car serviced and MOT, needed 3 new tyres.

Got a call from my surgery, out of the blue, the last lump I had removed was cancerous so nurse was checking up I was ok and did I need anything, nice to receive the call but all good and have another appointment in November.

Today we both had opticians today so both new new glasses

    Lovely to see everyone’s photos

Where do the says and hours go?

I hope Margaret's op went well @DavidKlyne You're doing well too, it's slow progress after a stroke but slow and steady is the way. I recall my OH being told be persistent improvement happens over the following 6 years plus.

@heddlo I'm glad you're improving, I hope the wound heals speedily now.

@DEBSC you appear to be getting back to your old self with gardening/holidaying away/walking. Well done but don't overdo it!

I have probably omitted lots of folks to comment particularly on 🫣. @nelliethehooker very belated birthday greetings.

Good to read that folks are enjoying their trips and I'm loving the photos.

Not sure what we've been doing to write about but apart from last weekend, Friday/Saturday/Sunday when we both felt under the weather. Achy and temperatures. Ironically we were due our flu jabs on Saturday! Rebooked for this coming Saturday. I didn't dress last Saturday - virtually unheard of.

Collecting grandson after school is going well. Gosh I'd forgotten how early 3pm is 🫣.

Garden help today. I harvested the remaining runner beans, about a washing up bowl full. Never harvested this late, and there was loads of bloom on the plants. Prepared the vegetable area for winter and planted the brassica and broad beans. Actually that was the reason for getting the runner beans out. Was able to erect and use my birthday present. Could have been a bit longer, but don't look a gift horse.... I've had to cover the other raised bed with weed suppressant to stop the neighbourhood cats using it. Firstly I manured it and put the remaining raw sheep's fleece under it to see how it breaks down. The fleece has been great at keeping the slugs off, so I salvaged that too. Only downside I've found is the dig is attracted to it. Hopping up and pulling it off 🤐. Luckily the vegetable garden is in the front of the so not an area she is regularly in.....

    20251009_172251.jpg

I know the green one looks empty, I put the bulk under the white one on the end 🤣.

Repotted some large shrubs that are on the invasive three cornered leek bed we inherited. Thankfully the 4 layers of weed membrane topped with bark 2 years ago, after digging as much as we could out, seems to be succeeding 🤞. I've decided to have pots on the area rather than run the risk of letting it see the light!

So much of the heavy work is done and I can potter at weeding, chopping back and applying a manure mulch. It is still so dry here. On his next visit it'll be hedge trimming as its ceased to be as noisy lately.

Right off to village heritage society meeting shortly.

Take care folks and keep posting. There's certainly much less activity than there used to be these days. Yes I'm guilty myself.....

🤣🤣🤣🤣 just come on to check postings and find this wasn't posted...... Thank goodness for this new site where it saves as a draft rather than loosing my waffle!

Oh I forgot to add were hemorrhaging money here at the moment. New kitchen purchased in the Howden event. Jolly good saving on everything including appliances and flooring which will help with the cost of refit. The existing kitchen could be painted, but it's beyond me. But it is showing signs of wear, been in 20 years, and isn't brilliantly planned, and would still have been 'old'. Refit not happening until the new year, I suspect my big birthday present, unlike OH who had a hot holiday 🤣🤣. So had to clear one half of the garage to store it. All fine at that point 3 weeks ago......

WWashing Machine made awful noise at the weekend, and a hot rubber smell. Looked back brought 2004, with a 10 year guarantee

Plus it's had a house move. So mustn't complain. New one delivered today. Stuck with the LG make and got a good discount, £150 off on the latest model. Tested with a couple of loads.

Daylight running light failed on o/s of the car. It must be replaced to pass MOT in new year. Shocked to find its not a bulb but a whole unit - wasteful 😡. Cheapest I can find the part £868 🫣🤐, only nissan supply, as the less than £200 doesn't work with our one, Tenka..... Local garage will fit, as Nissan charge £150 per hour and reckon 1.5 hours...... The solicitors I'm using to sort my late aunt's estate only charge £250 per hour......

    Oh well no.pockets in a shroud 😉

Glad to read that Margaret's operation seems to have been a success @DavidKlyne, hope that all goes well from now on and that she is home soon.

Your tale of your son and his "winnings" made me smile @DEBSC

Pleased to hear that you are doing well now @heddlo and that the the wound is slowly getting better. Good photo too.

Hope nothing untoward came from your appointment with your consultant today @Wherenext It sounds as if the new tablets are working well, with no adverse side effects.

Good to read that you got home without any apparent problems @DSB

It doesn't sound as if you it has been an easy time for you lately @Oneputt Glad that you think all is good following the removal of the lump and that all is clear now, hopefully.

@Bakers2 you have certainly been busy in your garden and that all your hard work has paid off with the amount of produce you have been able to harvest. That is a shocking price to have to pay for a replacement part but these companies have us users over a barrel when a working part is essential to pass ones MOT.

@DavidKlyne It's good to hear Margaret's operation is now behind her, it sounds like she's doing well. I was only in for 1 night, so it's possible she may be home tomorrow. I had to show I could walk up and down some stairs with the sticks (even though we live in a bungalow and don't have any stairs), no doubt Margaret had to do the same last time? The physio then said I was fit to go home. Fingers crossed and all the best.

@heddlo Lovely to see you out and about; sounds like you're doing better now. It'll have done you a lot of good today, well done.

@Wherenext You're absolutely right; at the start of the year we were in limbo, not knowing when I'd have my operation. In fact, once I was initially referred by the GP early January, we booked France for June, as I was convinced I'd be lucky to have had a clinic appointment by then, and the operation probably not much before the end of the year! Never dreamt I'd have had the operation 2 months before our June trip. I hope your results are good. We have a friend with kidney problems, her eGFR is very low, hovering around the dialysis level. All the best.

@nelliethehooker Belated birthday wishes and thanks for more lovely photos. We've been to St Ninian's Cave many years ago, also whilst staying at Garlieston. Another time, more recently, in that area we've stayed at Kings Green Campsite in Port William. A community-owned campsite; we enjoyed staying there and one day cycled to Garlieston and back from there.

Thanks for all the best wishes for Margaret. She is out of bed although they are a bit concerned about her BP, she has ha issues with low BP in the past. I think the physios are going to work on her today and as Ina says maybe the stair test? She was saying the site of the incision is a bit sore today. Not really sure when she will be home as I don't know if they discharge over a weekend? I expect they will need her bed for next weeks operations? All depends on the physios and the BP I expect? She made a remarkable recovery from the first hip replacement so I suppose in her minds she expects the same to happen with this one?

@Bakers2 gosh you’ve been busy. I’d love to have a vegetable garden after having to give up my two allotments but just no room. I love looking around a kitchen garden. Think I’d rather grow veg than flowers sometimes. We are also contemplating a new kitchen, ours is about the same age as yours. Ours will also come from Howdens, wish I’d realised there was a sale on but I can’t decide on colour.

OH was at the hospital for a CT scan when Granddaughter phoned to say feeling unwell. I went and picked her up from work, her Mum is working away and we are much closer anyway. She went straight to bed and to sleep. This morning even worse so she phoned her Dr, receptionist suggested an ambulance, which GD refused saying not needed. I was totally SHOCKED - they sent a Dr out! I thought that was unheard of in this day and age. Our GP would never do that. So maybe that’s why it seems everyone locally is prepared to travel and is trying to register with her GP. They’ve now closed their books as can’t cope. Anyway he thinks it is tonsillitis and that is making her other conditions worse. I’ve to pick up some antibiotics later. She did a Covid test, which was negative but the kit is 4 years old so fingers crossed it’s right. Dr then went on to tell me what to do as she keeps passing out - her other condition - I nodded and listened, didn’t tell him we’d been coping with it for the last 7 years and probably knew more about it than he did. Nice chap though.

@DEBSC When OH was so poorly a couple of years ago there were at least 2 occasions when I rang the surgery and they sent someone out. So reassuring. Wonderful service. I hope your GD is soon better. She is a wonderful young lady. An inspiration.

@heddlo lovely photo so glad you are feeling better at last.

@DavidKlyne so pleased your OH's operation went well. I hope she makes a good recovery and is soon home.

    @nelliethehooker wonderful photos again.

@Bakers2 I need a lie down after reading about everything you have been doing!

We are off to N Ireland later this afternoon. Daughter is taking us to the airport and we have requested 'special assistance' for OH. Wish us luck!

    LLunch Break here.

CChanged the bed and washed it nothing like a new toy 🤣. Just need all3 loads to dry now....

Walked the dog over the fields. Misty here on waking then as we left the village climbing up the hill - by our county standards 😉, it was thick fog. Bizarre. Brightened up over our walk.

Got milk from the shop, new owners and many changes, ALWAYS busy. Great service including the post office 7am 10pm. They now have 3 Cook Shop freezers 😀 expensive but nice. Great for emergencies. Then added extra steps to buy local honey.

Tackled one of the front borders, 2 to go. Going to mulch, was hoping for damper soil before I applied it but it needs doing. That'll leave 4 borders in the back garden which I hope to get done over the weekend. Like @takethedogalong sort of winter tidying but still lots of colour, some cosmos only started flowering a few weeks ago.

@davidklyne good news from Margaret. Onwards and upwards. @heddlo great you've been out doing normal things 😉. @Wherenext yay working now 😀 @oneputt that didn't last long! Good luck with your ongoing appointments.

@milliehull safe journey and happy times with the family. You'll miss the run this weekend. Our son is taking part.…

@debsc your granddaughter is amazing you must be so proud of her. Apparently Howdens have one 'event' a year. Chance comment alerted us. September and October, so not out of time yet 😉🫣. I had no idea really about colour etc but modern tech, new kitchen in 3D and a visit to store we cracked it pretty swiftly. I wished the refit was as easy as changing "bits' on the tech programme......

    Right must crack on.

Good luck with the flight @milliehull. I thought you were going to have them over to see you rather than t'other way around. Enjoy yourselves anyway.

Parcel delivery day. Hob arrived with bits of the box torn in places so we have photos before opening it. Can't try it out until gas one removed next Tuesday. I've written to suppliers with photos just in case. We were rather surprised that DPD delivered 2 parcels, one of which was from ProCook. We've ordered a Hob Converter plate from them but they've confirmed that will be deliveedr by Evri, so I was a tad confused. It had our name and order number on it. Anyway I opened it up to find a Pan set! The other order is definitely for a Converter so I rang. Obviously the Warehouse has made an error but the biggest surprise was the reaction of Customer Services who seemed rather taken aback that someone had brought it to their attention and not just kept the pans. But that would be dishonest. Has that gone out of vogue?

Meeting with kidney man went as planned yesterday. No help on the Covid vaccination as guidelines not flexible. It was a bit disappointing to find out he is leaving to return to his home town in South Wales so it might mean the local clinic will stop and a longer journey in future to Wrexham will be needed. Oh well.

I've been trying to get hold of a Vaccine jab locally but the nearest one will entail a 40 minute drive and be on Wednesday next week so that will have to do. All local ones are "waiting for supplies".

@DavidKlyne Glad to read Margaret is still doing well. On the low BP front: after my hip op I was kept in recovery for a bit longer due to very low BP. Next morning it was still low, to the extent that I went very dizzy after they'd walked me to the bathroom to have a wash, and they had to sit me down. Gradually though it went up during the morning and back to normal. I was told that the spinal anaesthesia causes BP to drop (I assume Margaret had the same} and it varies from patient to patient how long it takes to come back up. As I said, I was home the day (afternoon) after my op, so although my BP was low in the morning, it came up sufficiently for them to discharge me later that day after passing the "stair test". Hope Margaret will be discharged today.

@Wherenext Glad the appointment with the kidney consultant went as planned. Shame he's leaving for another area though, you build up a sort of relationship with the same consultant after a while. Frustrating about the elusive Covid jab, and that you have to drive 40 minutes to get one; but at least you'll get it. I would check before you set off that they've got it though, especially as it's a 40 minute drive. I say that, because last year both OH and I were booked in at our local chemist for one, on different days. OH was first, but when he got there, he was told they hadn't got any! We'd had no phonecall to tell us, and when we queried that, were told some tale about how they can't see who's coming on that day🤔 So when it was my turn I rang to ask if they had the vaccine and the answer was NO. So I'd definitely check before setting off.

Wow only managed to mulch 2 beds and not weed the third. Those 2 took 10 bags of farmyard manure. More than I anticipated so need to get more. I reckon at that rate another 20 minimum 🫣. I need more compost too so I will definitely qualify for free delivery. I could probably get a bulk load but not so easy to store or manoeuvre.

RRemembered We have an overnight guest once I started flinging mulch around. 🫣. Just had a phone call, sorry for the late notice but won't be coming tonight. Arrangements for dog swop with son changed as son poorly so ploughing on to Yorkshire. Relieved? moi?

So now we can chill before we shower and eat and don't need to summon the energy for conversation.....

Has been dry, grey and chilly all day. Bedding barely dry..... But great for gardening!

@Wherenext sorry your consultant moving and you'll have a longer journey in future. As to covid, the rules keep changing 🤐. Hopefully, you'll secure one. OH hasn't qualified for the last 2 years, but he's not bothered and doesn't have an added issue other than heart and stroke. I suspect honesty isn't as prevalent as it was. It's a sad world. But company's don't help at times when they say keep as more expense to return.

Oh, I spoke to the local garage. They are happy to fit the car light unit if I purchase it, at a mere £60 + VAT per hour as opposed to Nissan's £150 + VAT. Pension day next week, so I'll wait for that before ordering.

@InaD @heddlo Margaret has a bit of a history of episodes of low BP. They say that had it not been an issue she would have come home today. Simon went in to see her this afternoon and seemed very impressed with her progress and her ability to move around. She seems to have had more pain from the op site than the previous hip but they are giving her something for that. I think if everything is OK overnight and tomorrow morning they may let her home tomorrow. I know that is what she wants. I suppose with everything they pump into you prior and during the operation it is bound to upset your systems?

The Jeep is looking great @Takethedogalong your OH has done a great job on it. Hope you don't loose patients with your knitting, which sounds very complicated to me!

@DEBSC hope your granddaughter soon recovers, she is such a fighter!

Hope the trip to NI went without a hitch, @milliehull and you have a lovely time over there.

You must be pleased with Margaret's progress and that she is allowed home this weekend @DavidKlyne

Best of luck getting the parcels sorted out and the new hob fitted. Fingers crossed that the pharmacy has the required jabs before you take that trip @Wherenext
