We have bitten the bullet today and changed the way we get our prescriptions. Our youngest son has been going onto us about getting them delivered, via an online service rather than collecting them from the Pharmacy. As we seem to be a couple of old crocks now and (hopefully temporaily) without a car we have either had to rely on others to pick our prescriptions up or Margaret would take the bus to get them. Whilst she is making excellent progress after her hip operation she is not ready yet for exploits on a bus! Coupled with the fact that due to a gas main replacement our local bus service is being diverted for many weeks so the stops will be further away. It will be interesting to see how successful the service is. In an emergency we are still able to ask the surgery to provide a script that we can take to the chemist, fingers crossed!

@DavidKlyne that sounds like a very sensible decision. Hopefully it will go very smoothly.
We have our eldest grandson, 4.5 years, for a sleepover and day with us tomorrow. He's great but has a cold and is heavy eyed. I think his younger brother is sharing generously, OH and I both feeling it. We had him Friday and babysat both Saturday.
He's not eaten with his usual gusto! But a comment whilst watching an episode of Bluey (I love the programme - very gentle lots of nice life lessons) we were informed "bogies taste like cheese." How do you answer that??? Followed by "my mummy says so" 😇😇😇. He did admit it was first hand knowledge 😉 🫣
He asked to go to bed before we'd finished a jigsaw - relief from me as despite thick carpet the floor's uncomfortable these days! Lovely to read him a story book that was our daughter's - time goes sooooo fast 😢.
Good to read folks are progressing with recovery"s and others progressing in pre-op procedures. @Takethedogalong sorry you've had covid again, but good your OH avoids it. I don't want to tempt fate but we've been OK so far.
Weather definitely on the turn now. Temperature not too bad but a strong chilly breeze. The sun was lovely behind glass, and under the wind.
Good to read about others travels and admire photos. Keep them coming......

Good to hear that Carol's hospital visit seemed to go well, so I guess it's full steam ahead to her operation @DSB Fingers crossed that all goes well.
After yesterday's rain we have had a fine day, which started off sunny but did become overcast later, and it is looking a bit wet now. OH was able to complete the washing and it all dried outside, while between dog walks I cleaned the car this morning and most of the outside of the caravan after lunch, leaving me just the roof, and the inside, to clean on the next dry day we have.

Because we live out of town we collect our prescriptions from the dispensary at the doctors. So no need to find a chemist. They have been doing this for at least 55 years - since I stopped being a Townie. They also have an electric van that goes round delivering, so we’ve now signed up to that. A very friendly man arrives in a silent car once a month.

@Goldie146 Sadly not an option for us although pharmacy is only a short distance from the surgery. We have tried to ask local pharmacies to deliver without success hence the reason we went for Pharmacy2U. Simon set it up yesterday and we ordered one lot of medication which appears to have been actioned and should be here in a day or two. Had we both been more abled bodied we probably wouldn't have bothered. Early days yet son we need to see how it all works out, will report back just in case anyone else wants to try it?

@DavidKlyne - David - thanks for the heads up - but as long as one of us is able to drive, we'll stick with our present arrangement. Our pharmacy has recently introduced a new system whereby we're notified by text when our scripts are ready for collection. I don't know what else has been put in place, but it's a slick operation now. I ordered our meds, on-line, via "Patient Access" about 0830, yesterday and at 1630, yesterday, I got a text saying they were ready for collection!
All they need to do now is to adopt the same system for making an appt. to see a Doctor!!!! (Some hope!)

We have the same system for prescriptions @richardandros. We usually order prescriptions a week in advance, but quite often get the text the following day. I ordered mine last Thursday morning and got the text on Friday morning. Carol ordered hers Thursday afternoon but hasn't yet got the text, so I expect something has gone a bit wrong with the system.... Patient Access says it's gone through. Oh well - we'll see in due course.....

Our surgery uses something called Systemonline which sounds similar to what others use. The system is fine, its just our ability to get to the pharmacy to collect our prescriptions at the moment which has dictated our change to an online pharmacy. Early days yet but it seems a well organised system, they keep you updated and provide traking information when the medication is despatched. (we had to order one of our medications to get the system up and running so we are still in the experimental stage at the moment.)

We are lucky with our Docs. Can book appointments online for most things, order repeat meds, including for my Mum who is linked to my NHS account. Pharmacy is next door, soon to be linked internally to the Docs, and they do deliver meds if required. I haven’t actually seen a Doctor in four years now, but get regular blood and health checks, and follow up phone appointments either with a Doc, or a pharmacist. OH’s Cancer care is well organised as well, he gets regular blood checks, and access to his consultant after each blood test or scan. It’s coming up to a year now since his last op in Leeds, so routine checks this coming fortnight. There’s a “stay in your car and a vampire will extract your blood” system at Sheffield’s Northern General we use. Can get busy, but I take some knitting, OH takes a book. The dog usually comes and we take a flask of coffee, sometimes a sandwich if we think it will be busy. Our pooch has had his dinner in back of car in many a hospital car park🤭 The one thing I dread would be A&E without requiring an ambulance☹️

Cornwall system. Order tablets on line from surgery. They send SMS message to say when ready. Can’t get message as no mobile signal out here . Phone surgery to ask if ready. Voice says to fill in on on line triage form. Ignore it and press. 2. Voice says you are number 4 in queue. Swear and wait . Lady eventually answers and says yes they are ready . Drive 7 miles to surgery. Stand in queue for long time at dispensary hatch. Lady says she is sorry but one item missing. Drive 7 miles home and repeat all that two days later .

You live in the wrong part of Cornwall, Euro! No such hassle here.

Sounds a bit of a long process @eurortraveller - I reckon even Mrs Tishell from Portwenn would sort them quicker!! 🙂

Have to say our previous experience has not been as bad as ET's but often, despite ordering well in advance, we have found the prescription not ready when we have arrived at the pharmacy having waiting the suggested number of days. With our new system the medication is sent by tracked mail so we should have a fairly good idea when it will arrive. Time will tell, also keeps the postal sevice busy!

Managed to sort the van water system out this morning after the mysterious 'failure' of both external and internal pumps on Friday when we got home. External (Aquaroll) pump seemed to have sorted itself out so I can only put that down to air in the water (of which there was loads), after the water had been turned off whilst we were away.
The internal one was another matter, though and no end of fiddling about with it would solve the problem - so I changed it. Not an easy job because it means having to work in the onboard tank through the small inspection hatch on the top. Pump seemed OK but then I noticed that the short length of pipe in the tank that connects the pump to the van's system had gone hard and I am guessing that it wasn't sealing properly so the water was escaping from the discharge end of the pump, back into the tank without going anywhere?
Anyway - new pump / pipe installed and all now working properly, thank goodness😀.

There's no consistency with Boots. Things are a little more organised since I've taken on ordering repeat prescriptions for myself. Like some others, I get a text when Boots receive it from GPs (who seem to deal with request on same day) and meds can be ready anytime between 3-6 days later. We just collect them when in town. Boots have made complete messes of it when they did the ordering. I once received 2 lots of Page 1 and None on page 2 once, hence why I do the ordering.
Had to laugh this last time. I have a separate prescription for 1 item recently prescribed to me. It is a monthly repeat whereas my other 5 meds are on 2 monthly (56 days) so I made a request to the GP to make the single one 2 monthly. The message on the app said "Request denied" yet the prescription when picked up showed 2xMonthly.🤷

As we were away last week we decided to take MiL out this morning. We gave her some alternatives to choose from whilst we had a shower and when we had washed and dressed she had risen like Lazarus from her pit and was dressed and ready! She wanted to go to the Grosvenor Garden Centre, I think she wanted to make sure the Duke of Westminster had some extra money for his coffers as he must be down to his last few billions by now. And yes, she did buy some items of clothing amongst other things Christmassy. Still, she enjoyed herself. The Duke will be pleased with her outlay.😂
Back home for a late lunch. Her normal weekly visitor arrived so OH and self went off for a longer than anticipated walk. Quite nice in Autumn sunshine, with a bite to the wind.

We had a lovely day out today. Wasn’t sure where to go but enjoyed a good trip over the North Yorkshire Moors and ended up in Sandsend for a quick lunch. Long walk along the path, got lots of fresh air, if rather too fresh if out for too long! Beautiful day though. Also got a late quick view of Flying Scotsman which is doing a couple of weeks on the NYM railway.
Looking towards Whitby Abbey.

Great photos @heddlo We love Sandsend.
Regarding prescriptions we order ours online direct with the surgery and they send them electronically to the chemist next door who text us when they are ready usually within 5 days We have to fetch them ourselves though
Sorry to hear that you have had covid @Takethedogalong but good to hear that your OH didn't get it. Hope you are fully recovered.
I also loved @nelliethehooker and @Wherenext's photos. We used to spend a lot of time at Belton House but usually with the grandchildren in their huge play area. We did get told off one time for letting 2 of our grand-daughter's paddle in the fountain one hot day! Well actually it was OH who let them as I had gone off to the ladies.

We are the same as you @milliehull I order OH's repeat prescription on line and we than receive a text from the chemist when it is ready for collection, which we do when we go into town. They do have a free home delivery service but not tried it yet.
Grand photos @Oneputt and @heddlo trains were obviously the order of the day!
Pleased to read that you have sorted out the problems with your caravan's water system @richardandros Do you have any more trips planned?
It has been a better day than forecast with periods of sunshine, with a cool breeze, so I was able to complete the cleaning and the Bobby Dazzling of the caravan. We did have a couple of rain showers this evening when we were out shopping but managed to dodge them, and it appears dry now.

@eurortraveller get your Docs to send you an email when meds ready rather than an SMS? Hard to do much about missing meds though, unless you wait longer to collect after notification? It’s not uncommon for pharmacies to run short of something as they can only stock so much. We get duplicate messages in the NHS app if our Docs send us a message. Sometimes we get SMS, email and an NHS app message.

Lovely photos @heddlo Flying Scotsman is hauling a good few carriages there! We are going to make our first outing when we can train themed. Depends on time of year of course, but want to do Welsh Highland and Ffestiniog.
Almost over Covid thanks @milliehull just a lingering cough in the morning, and still gasping for breath if I do anything too strenuous, but that’s not so bad now.
We enjoyed the gardens and grounds at Belton House a couple of years ago as well. Nice place, we stopped off coming home from a nice CL near Belvior. Didn't have time to do House itself, but will go back.Belton.

Unfortunately very little progress with emptying car and caravan as we have been mainly down at DD’s house so I could start putting her temporary fencing back up now all the landscaping is completed. Cannot have the back garden all open to the street for too long as kids (presumably) and dog walkers are already chucking in bottles and other rubbish.
She has decided to apply for planning permission to erect a permanent 2m high fence. She is thinking to go for a composite fence to reduce maintenance, so does not want to risk just putting one up and then the council insisting she removes it. All her garden borders the street so without a decent fence, having removed the old ivy infested hedge, they will have no privacy. Replanting a hedge will be the last resort. There are no traffic sight lines issues as the garden ends at an “internal 90 degree corner” on the street, so she is hopeful a fence will be permitted.
Meantime there is plenty to be going on with…….weed suppressant fabric to be laid , gate to be made for her new bin store, planning and installing a new balustrade on the terrace, etc etc.
Waiting to hear when the installation of our new patio door can start, weather far from ideal now, covid vaccinations on Thursday, T- Cross for service next week, dental appointments to be made, and OH is still suffering with this Sciatica. I think another visit to our GP is going to be required.
Going out now to start emptying van as rain has stopped.

We both had our Covid and Flu jabs yesterday. Surprisingly few people at the Open University Vacination Centre given that its quite a large operation. Don't think either of us have had any ill effects, just a lttle discomfort in both upper arms, covid in one arm and flu in th other!
On the prescription front we have both had emails from Royal Mail saying that our first deliveries will be tomorrow, so we will see how that goes.

Lovely photos from everyone, please keep them coming, great to see where everyone has been.
A couple of months ago I took a prescription into Drs ‘box’.They send it to the Boots chemist a few hundred yards away, two weeks later I went to collect my tablets, told, ‘we only received it yesterday, it’s not ready. You need to give it over 2 weeks’. I didn’t believe that they had only just received it as Drs usually on the ball with prescriptions, unlike our chemist. Anyway this time I gave it even more time, only to receive a text 1 day after I took prescription to the Dr, saying pharmacy had received it. 2 days later another text to say it was ready. I think someone must have had a word with the pharmacy, but no complaints this time about the service.
We have been a few days at the caravan packing it up for winter. Outside furniture on the decking all moved and covered up. Store cupboard food all bagged up ready to go home, not sure how I’ll get it all into our pantry. Cushions and throws all in suck down bags. None of this is our favourite jobs. Big drain down to do before we leave, that certainly isn’t my favourite, I always seem to need the loo just as it’s all finished 😊.
A meal at my favourite place last night, the Broadway Hotel, as I’ve said before in the summer it’s my favourite place to sit outside with a drink and people watch, too cold for that now. As it’s rather, expensive to eat there we don’t but they were doing a special offer so we went last night. With the offer it was very reasonable and we had an excellent meal in lovely surroundings, very enjoyable.
Pouring with rain now, we did try to plan outside packing up jobs around the weather and it looks like that worked. Lots of appointments when we get home, I’ve just had a dental reminder come through. I have a tooth which is fairly healthy but has previously been filled, apparently from as X-ray it’s going to need work in the future. As I’m on tablets to do with the cancer it’s better that it is done now rather than later and also due to this they would rather extract it than refill it. Again due to these tablets this can affect the jaw badly so my dentist doesn’t want to do it, so they have booked a dentist from the hospital to come and do it. I’ve not had anything done, apart from cleaning, for 50 years so I’m not looking forward to that next week, or the price.0 -
@DSB David Ithought all prescriptions were sent to pharmacies electronically these days unless you pick up a script direct from the doctors and take it in person?
Good news is that our first lot of meds have arrived safely via the online service, just as quick as using local pharmacy.

Hi David.... ( @DavidKlyne ). I think they do unless you request otherwise. We order our repeat prescriptions on Patient Access and the practice send them straight 'next door'... our local pharmacy is actually in the same building as the practice, with it's own seperate outdoor entrance. I think the building is actually 'owned' by the practice - the pharmacy lease/rent it from them. This makes it really convenient.
Apologies if I gave the wrong impression....
The practice also has it's own 'internal pharmacy', but I'm not really sure how you qualify to use this - all as I know is that we don't qualify.... I think it's something to do with where you live.... I must find out.... 🙂

@DEBSC - I had a similar conversation with my dentist last week insofar as I have a bit of a root sticking in an upper gum, which I call Arthur. The tooth was extracted a number of years ago but the root doesn't cause me any problems. However the dentist mentioned that when I start Dialysis it's going to be more dangerous to extract the root. She used to be a Dentist in a Hospital and has had experience with Dialysis patients so she recommends that Arthur and me part ways. I'll arrange it next time I see her.
OH and self went to do MiLs shopping today. She normally goes with OH but is having an off day. Anyway on the way out I noticed an elderly lady having difficulty pushing a trolley, she was smaller than MiL, so about 4'9" or so. I offered her a hand, she accepted but the problem then started. She couldn't remember where she had left her car. I felt for her. We finally determined that it was Red and probably a Fiat. She thought it was quite a way down the car park. It was actually very close to the entrance when we retraced our steps. Still it sounded like she hadn't spoke to anyone all week. I hope she was just having a bad day, memory wise There's an awful lot of that around. OH had a 10 minute conversation with another elderly lady when handing over her trolley the other day. The lady admitted she hadn't spoke to anyone and apologised. No need to. We're often mention it to MiL when she gets a bit grumpy on rare occasions about visitors, saying she should be grateful people want to speak to her.

We have had a few quite heavy showers again through the day but have managed to avoid getting caught outside in any of them. We too had our Flu and Covid injections this morning and like @DavidKlyne the only effects we each are experiencing so far are a slight aching of one arm, the one where we had the Flu jab. Our appointments had been made for noon but we arrived early, booked in using their automatic system where one selects the month, and date of birth, & first letter of surname, and that showed a time of 12:13 so we prepared to wait, however within 5 minutes we were having the injections done, and we were on our way out of the surgery before 12:00.

We have had a damp but very enjoyable visit to Easton Walled Gardens today with both sons and a grand-daughter. The worst of the rain had stopped by the time we arrived so was just light drizzle and by the time we had a coffee it had stopped completely.
