@Takethedogalong sincere condolences on the loss of your beautiful dog 😢😢😢. I have no doubt that he couldn't have had a better life than one you gave him. Heartbreaking, even if not unexpected. Take time to mourn the end of this part of your story ❤️

Yes, life has changed for many of us in the last decade 😢. I'm so glad we had a motorhome and explored, plus regular visits to our daughter in NZ while we could. There really is truth in the saying enjoy today, do it while you can. Tomorrow is promised to no one and health should never be taken for granted.

@DSB hope things go well for Carol this week. Always a bit of apprehension before, but if she does as well after as 'our' recent new hippers, it'll be a job well done and no looking back by Christmas.

Interesting how others get on with prescriptions. We have ours sent to the village pharmacy and collect once a month. Most of the time, they are ready 🫣 and depending on the assistant its a friendly transaction 🤐. It's a branch of a family run pharmacy and it's good to have in the village, so we do our best to support it. We used to be able to request repeat prescriptions by phone when the, generally 6 month, limit, was about to expire, but that was changed last year. It's now online, or the repeat request dropped into the surgery in the next but one village. The online system hates me! It always denies me access, saying username/password is incorrect even though they are saved on the computer. I'm usually capable of most websites.

I'm off with said laptop to their next tech session on 17th. I thought I'd resolved it by creating a new email address as you can't apparently have 2 on the same email.... OH now not capable/ interested to sort himself. We cope with one mobile number, but sometimes I have to query who the message was directed to. Tech is great if each individual can use it. Not so easy when you're the carer... and surprise surprise time to mess around is less......

On the up side they have a new phone system which offers the opportunity to choose a call back when your place in the queue is reached. Been very successful on both ocassions I've tried it. Phone calls actually received when they're closed at lunchtime. I am very impressed with our surgery, although the vast amount of new build, without provision for basic services 🤐, some 5K in total eventually..... means that demands on their services are being stretched, compared to our old practice, the pharmacy side is not a wonderful as our previous.

It's been a rather pleasant day weatherwise. Dried our bedding outside and it smells wonderful.

So sorry to read this - sorry for your loss @Takethedogalong. There are no words.....! 😢😢 I remember how we felt when we had to say goodbye to Lizzie in March this year. We're still lost without a dog - perhaps we might consider it again when Carol is a bit better. We just spend time saying hello to other dogs for the present.

Thanks for your good wishes for Carol's op, @RedKite and @Bakers2 ....

@Bakers2 As I mentioned our main reason for changing to how we got our prescriptions was mainly down to our ability to get to the pharmacy to pick them up, This was made worse by them re-routing our local bus service which goes on to early next year. Our sons would pick them up for us but we are asking them to do so much at the moment we don't want to overload them. On the plus side we have now had several deliveries, Royal Mail email us with delivery information, so well organised. Even Margaret's insulin came packed in an ice jacket. We have growing confidence in the system.

@DavidKlyne I'm really pleased that the Royal Mail deliveries are working well. Hopefully, we can continue collecting ours in the village. They also offer a delivery service - at the moment, should we need it.

I know exactly what you mean about asking family. It's great that we can, but because they lead busy lives and we want to stay/prove we're still independent, it's good to find alternatives and save their help for other bits.

This change in your bus route proves the point about how hard it is to be independent without being able to drive or have access to a car - regardless of where you live. Even if you can afford taxis. I believe we have access to community cars.

My dear late uncle, just a year since he left us at 96, used to say getting old is not for wimps....... Years ago I thought well! Now it's becoming clearer. I will add I'm nowhere near his great age - yet 😃🤣

That sounded nasty @nelliethehooker. Good job it wasn't more serious and that you were so restrained. Some others may not have been so kind on both the dog and owner. Hope you get a quick appointment for the hospital visit. You do seem to if past experience anything to go by.

Thanks @Wherenext and as you say they have been very efficient at our local hospital, so hopefully it will be the same time. Thankfully the bite does appear to be healing quickly @RedKite, cheers

We have had another decent day, good enough to get the washing dried outside, like you @Bakers2 . I finished off the cleaning of the caravan today so all ready for the off, whenever that might be although that may be a while yet.

@Takethedogalong - only just read about your sad news - you must be devastated and the fact that it was expected won't make any difference. Just concentrate on everything you have all shared together. Meg - our first dog - is 12 on Saturday - and although she still bounces around like a puppy, one day we too, will have to go through what you are - and I'm not sure how I'll cope - such is the impact she's had on our lives. Just think of all the happy times you have shared and the good life you gave him. Take care.

Thank you @richardandros The old lad struck again this morning, Postie has just delivered this months vet meds. We are getting organised around a few things, meds won’t be wasted as we are contacting others in family who have dogs on same stuff, and although our vets and online vets cannot take back tablets etc….. we know some rescue centres will gratefully make good use of them. My cousin who works closely with lots of animal charities is going to have a lot of clean bedding, toys etc…. Food and treats off to a niece who has two lovely big dogs of her own.

Very strange though. We have sort of been living our day times in two hour slots these past couple of months, around his needs, and Mum’s, so we are sort of at a loss of what to do with ourselves at the moment. Boiler service today, we are both getting out walking already, and ironically, we got a text about a holiday cottage yesterday, vacant for period covering OHs birthday, so checked Mum will be ok and we have booked it. Up on Hadrian’s Wall. MH is in for MOT on Friday, so get that out of the way and hopefully get back into having a couple of nights away, maybe more if I can commute for Mum’s care.

@DSB Best wishes for Carol's hip operation. As one of many on here who had it done earlier this year, I can understand how she feels. I was really worried, but it all went very well, the surgeon, anaesthetist and nurses were so kind and put me at ease. I'm sure it'll be the same for Carol, I hope everything goes well for her.

@Takethedogalong So sorry to read of your dog's passing. It's a horrible thing to go through, no words can express how you feel. We've only had the one dog, but always have had cats, and each one has left a terrible gap. Memories do help, looking at photos too; at least for me it did/does. Wishing you all the best.

Such sad news TTDA, even though you were expecting it. You will I am sure have many happy memories to help you through the sadness, and keeping busy will help.

Best wishes too to all those recovering from or waiting for operations. My younger sister has had 2 hips replaced and the difference it has made for her is remarkable.

It is miserable weather here today, lots of rain, and we were supposed to be having our new patio door fitted, but a big problem has arisen, the new door is the wrong colour. It is an aluminium door, was to be dark brown both inside and outside, but when it was unwrapped today it was white on the inside, so we now have another 2-3 weeks to wait for a replacement.

Fortunately we have an e mail record of the colour that we requested, but it is unclear where things went wrong, so there will be some discussion as to who has to pay for the error. Could have been our builder, or his supplier, or the manufacturer. The door costs £2k, so a very expensive mistake by someone. We do not have any white windows or woodwork in the house, so we were totally clear when we accepted the quote that it had to be brown both inside and outside.

It was delivered on Friday and has been sitting on our balcony since then, but as it was all wrapped up, we could not see that the colour was wrong. OH noticed it immediately it was unwrapped. Fortunately most of the work is being done from inside the house, so although a lot of bits of the original internal mahogany trim had already been removed, the old door was still in place, and the outside woodwork undisturbed, so still water tight.

T-Cross has gone for service, all seems to be fine with it, so we should get it back later today.

On Saturday we had a visit from DD and the boys, one of them was at a birthday party nearby so the other one stayed here with us, and then they all came here afterwards for lunch. Yesterday we were at their house all day so DD and I could continue putting up her temporary fence again.

Lots to do here, still have to bring in some more stuff from the caravan for winter.

It never rains but it pours! Poor Margaret has a promblem with her wound which has a swelling at the base of the incision. Her own dctor has given her antibiotics but the hospital want to see her so two appointments in a number of days. Not quite sure what they plan to do? Quite naturally she is contrasting how the private operation went, which seemed seamless to the NHS. Probably unfair to compare as one used clips and the other used staples? I think she is feeling pretty fed up.

@DavidKlyne that’s a real nuisance for Margaret, although I had a similar issue with my wound (bad reaction to glue!) I think you will, hopefully, find the antibiotics will clear it up quite quickly. Has she been given Flucloxacillin? Mine were huge tablets! Unfortunately I couldn’t finish the whole 7 days as they made me unwell but I managed 5 and a half. Fingers crossed all improves soon.

@heddlo off hand I am not sure what ones they are but it does seem quite a high dose? It was quite interesting as to how the hospital got involved. I think I may have mentioned that the recovery exercises are done via a App on her phone. They send you new ones every day which they obviously monitor as yesterday she mentioned on the app that she had not done because of the problem. Out of the blue this morning she had a phone call saying they needed to see her and suggested they couldn't leave to our surgery to sort it out. They could be covering themselves but good to see they are on the ball.

I had a telephone consultation with the stroke consultant, he wants to see me in the new year in person. Not so good news was that despite an improvement over the original eyesight test its still not good enough to drive. I have another test later in November so hopefully that shows another improvement. I should add that my eyesight appears perfectly normal to me but what do I know?

@DavidKlyne I had to go to the hospital with my problem, I went back every week for 5 weeks for them to check on it. Yes the antibiotics (assuming it’s the same one) was a high dose, 2 large tablets 4 times a day for 7 days (ideally!). Yes, as you say, it’s good to see they are wanting to check it out as I feel they take infections pretty seriously these days. Re the difference between private operations to NHS ones, mine was done in a private hospital!

Pleased to hear that you are taking advantage of getting away for your OH's birthday @Takethedogalong Fingers crossed that the M/H passes its MOT and you are able to spend some nights away in it too.

Sorry to read that Margaret is having problems with the wound following her operation, @DavidKlyne Hopefully the medication will soon clear up the problem, also that when you next have your eyesight test the results show sufficient improvement to enable you to get your license to drive back.

That is a shame about the patio door, @KjellNN but at least you have proof of what you requested and that you do not have any trips away booked which you would have to cancel.

We had a warning "check" symbol come up on the car's dash while we were away so I took it into the dealer to get it seen to. It turned out to be a blocked, sooted up, Emap sensor which required cleaning, so that resulted in a quite pricey afternoon and 4 hours I won't get back what with driving there and back along with the wait. I have had some good news though as i received a couple of text from the surgery and hospital with questionnaires to fill in before any appointment so things seem to be progressing quite rapidly.

@Takethedogalong so sorry to hear about your dog passing, they leave such a huge gap in your lives as such a much loved and integral part of the family.
@DavidKlyne I hope that Margaret recovers from this setback very soon and that your eyesight soon improves.
Visit to the dentist yesterday, he came to our dentist from the hospital to remove a back tooth. It was filled when I was about 19 and due to tablets I have to take my dentist couldn’t take it out. Nothing done for 50 years so OH reassuringly said, things have changed, it will be fine. The blessed thing cracked in half as he was pulling it out, leaving most of it under the gum. He then had to drill out the roots. So an hour later and with 6 stitches I left, paying the £300 bill. A very bad nights sleep and this morning I resemble a bruised hamster. He was a really lovely chap though trying to reassure me all the way through. I remember the days when Drs and dentists were all very brisk but everyone I’ve seen this year has been lovely, are they training them differently.

Oh @DEBSC that sounds extremely uncomfortable. Hopefully it'll heal quickly. Unintended consequences left you with £300 bill 🫣, hospital would have been free at the point of delivery. On the bright side, no journey to hospital, fighting for a space to park etc.

@DavidKlyne best wishes to Margaret, hopefully strong antibiotics will sort it quickly. It's good they're keeping a close watch. Thinking of you with your eyesight and driving. I can't offer any help but have you asked what the actual issue is? Are there exercises you can do? Sadly my OH wasn't allowed to drive after his stroke. A huge blow to him, and he never tried again after a year because the disappointment was so great. I ask about exercises as our daughters eyes stopped working well together when she was 8 or 9. Exercises helped.

@richardand ros hope your mobility scooter test proves successful. A neighbour has bought a foldable one, make etc unknown, but it's made a huge difference.

@DavidKlyne I'm very sorry to hear about Margaret's infection. Not what she needs at this stage, she was doing so well. But the ABs should clear it up pretty soon, and full marks to the hospital for being on the ball with it. Best wishes to her. A disappointment for you too with your eye test. It must be so frustrating, I hope that the next one will have a more positive result and that you'll be able to get behind the wheel again before long.

@DEBSC Ouch!!!! That sounds very painful. Soup and ice cream for a few days for you then? Good to hear the chap was kind and reassuring. I’m not sure about having different training as our (female) dentist hardly speaks, so she must have missed the bedside manners course! Take care and fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

I’m feeling a bit off colour today, I had my Covid vaccine yesterday, I don’t usually get any reaction apart from a sore arm, so I’m blaming the jab. Anyway I had my first drive yesterday after my operation and that went well so that’s a relief, being my right hip and having an automatic car I did wonder, but all good. I have finished with the Physio now so it’s up to me how much or little I do apparently. I found it unusual when he said I shouldn’t worry too much about the exercises, as even if I do nothing I will get back to normal with just my day to day stuff - last time they were very insistent on doing them.

@DEBSC That doesn't sound nice hope heals quickly and the pain goes.

@Bakers2 From what I have been told its the left side peripheral which is an issue. As I mentioned I am not aware of a problem which makes it even more frustrating. They suggest doing things with the eyes like searching for things like a word search puzzle I am getting back into the jigsaws but that is slow progress, the rate ar which I am finding pieces a 1000 piece jigsaw could take me a year😊 I have another test later this month so I am hoping I make the same amount of progress as between the last two tests. It will be a shame if I can't drive again as I see it as the gateway to getting back to normal. Margaret can drive but she has chosen not to in recent years as she finds the roads a bit mad. I think we would also have to change to a smaller car if she were to resume driving?

@InaD She is at the hospital now, not quite sure why it is taking so long as it was only meant to be blood tests and perhaps an x-ray with a further appointment with the consultant in a few days time.

    David
