What are you all up to

agree with all above really like this part of the forum great to see what other are up to and I enjoy posting our updates and pics when we are away. We have visited quite a few places that we wouldn’t otherwise have been to if it hadn’t been for recommendation from this thread

What am I up to today? Unfortunately nothing about caravans or caravanning because we no longer have one but will share today with friends if interested, if not please scroll past!🫣🤪😄.
Like others on here I too am interested in hearing the ups and downs of life as we know it these days! I also regard you as ‘friends’ who we have yet to meet. I do so enjoy the discussion forum as it is, and also like others it’s my first port of call when I drop in. Thank you all for the support, laughs, pictures, and helpful responses we have received over the years.
Have been thinking of you @DSB and @DavidKlyne and hopefully everything is improving for your OH’s.We had another trip to Beningbrough Hall today but this time mainly inside as I was interested to see some willow sculptures done by an artist from Derbyshire, Laura Ellen Bacon. They were really impressive and this one, called Thicket, was enormous I stood OH in picture for scale. I have tried willow work myself, it was a small bowl that soon fell apart! This was amazing work and I can only imagine how long it took. Some very talented people around. Some of the large sculpture will eventually be left to go back to nature in the wilderness garden at the Hall.
A little Autumn colour still around and it would have been lovely if the sun was out!
Had the pleasure of an accompanying pianist too.

We all know there is organising things and organising things! Today within minutes of each other the window cleaner arrived and whilst he was unpacking his kit the man from British Gas also arrived (turned out that he has a Campervan.) Whilst all that was going on Margaret had a phone call from a nurse at the surgery who has been helping with her hip issue, so a busy five minutes, at least we didn't have to go anywhere, they all came to us. Another job for today was to send out the November Meeting Reminder email, the last of the year, to our Pensioner Group. I have been doing for 10 years now!
The Blue Badge arrived yesterday so will have to read up on how and where it can be used.

Goodness @DEBSC that sounds such a nasty and painful experience. I do hope you are now beginning to feel a bit better and also that your OH's ABs are taking effect. Not a good week for you.
@DSB I do hope Carol's BP is beginning to stabilise.
Best wishes to all who have health issues.
Such lovely photos @heddlo. What a beautiful place. Thank you for sharing.
Well we have had quite a week.OH had a phone appt with one of our GPs about his poor and painful mobility. The GP referred him.to the muscular skeletal clinic and 2 weeks later he had an appt which was on Monday. He has now been refered to the consultant about his hip as his 20 year old replacement hip has worn out. He has also been referred back to Addenbrooks about his back. Not looking forward to traipsing back and forth there again. On Tuesday we had 2 new settees delivered which we are very pleased with. We are trying to keep the cat off them - without much success! Son and grand-daughter moved the old settees into the garage before they left for NI so we spent 3 evenings sitting on 2 garden chairs. Hopefully the council will collect the old settees next week. Yesterday I went to the dentist for a check up and ended up having a tooth extraction. I knew it was loose and the dentist decided it needed to come out. She was a bit concerned because I am on blood thinners since my minor stroke 3 years ago but thankfully all was well. The dentist rang in the afternoon to make sure I was OK which was kind of her. Luckily I haven't had the same nasty experience as @DEBSC Today we went for OH's COPD annual check up which thankfully went well. I am now hoping for a nice quiet weekend with a bit of gardening if the weather plays ball.

Well you have had a week of it haven't you @milliehull? Hope everything settles (or even settees) down for you and OH. We were only talking about the Skeletal clinic at Addenbrooks the other day when we met our friends from Norwich. It's where he goes as he has a lot of problems with back and spine issues.
MiL received a strange appointment out of the blue the other day for a Bone Density scan. They said she had been referred but we know not who from. She did have one years ago at the same hospital in Shropshire when being treated for Osteoarthritis but that was at least 12 years ago. In typical fashion it gave her an appointment on a day that already has another appointment elsewhere. OH rang and was given an earlier one! Must have been a cancellation.
Lovely photos @heddlo. We like it there. We were there last year for the Mary Delaney exhibition. MiL really enjoyed that. We were glad they have a lift there.

Grand photos @heddlo We have not been there for a while so another visit is on the cards. Do you know how long the current exhibition is in place?
It has certainly been a busy week for your household @milliehull hope things will quieter down over the weekend and you can get some gardening done.
Not the best of days for me as I seem to have spent much of the time dashing to the bathroom! It has been a long time since I felt so under the weather, so dosing myself up with Imodium and paracetamol. I did manage to get one of our lounge walls painted between getting out for short walks for some fresh air with Flyte. Hope I feel a good bit better in the morning.

@nelliethehooker if I understand it correctly I think the current one is there until April, so no rush. Also, as with many NT places, winter opening is only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. As pleased as I was to see it there are only the 3 items to view and it’s a half hour journey for us so I don’t think it would be worth any detailed planning unless you are near the area anyway. The Mary Delaney exhibition was much more interesting and impressive.
I’m soon off to man a stall or two at my Art and Craft Club Christmas Fair where I think I’m mainly on selling Raffle tickets as I wanted a sitting job!!! A least the weather looks dry later.1 -
Thanks for the continuing thoughts and messages folks. I do pass them on. Carol is still in hospital, but BP seems a bit more stable so they have sat her in a chair this morning. The physio will try some walkingcwith her today, but I suspect she will be in hospital untill Mondsy now.
When her BP was so low they sent her up from the ward to ITU on Wednesday night. She went back to the ward on Thursday afternoon. In spite of the pain killers she was still in lots of pain, but I think the oromorph(sp?) has helped sort that out.
Heading off down in a mo.
Thank you for all the support and continued good wishes.
David

Very best wishes to you and Carol @DSB I hope she is soon well and back home.

@DSB best wishes hope all goes well over the weekend
Spent the morning getting the caravan insurance sorted out got the renewal letter through during the week and felt it was quite high so SWMBO has been online this morning and managed to get Us what looks like a good deal and £60 cheaper so it does pay to shop around. Weather not great here today so won’t be doing much.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend

Best wishes to you both @DSB and I hope Carol is soon back home. I remember my blood pressure was very low after my aneurysm by-pass and the nurse put it down to the post-op morphine injections I had been given.
On a lighter note - we had a bit of a celebration, this morning - Meg's 12th birthday………
The plate was specially chosen!
And the boys from next door came round with a card for her (she's very good at reading😉)
Not suggesting she's spoilt, or anything!!
The cake was more like a biscuit than cake but she liked it (well a small piece anyway). Left to her own devices, she would have wolfed the lot down in 10 seconds!
Neither of us can claim any credit for the cake - it was a doggy special from Pets At Home.🙄

I noticed an article for the Standing with Giants yesterday and mentioned that it was the sort of "sculpture" we would enjoy seeing. Alas too far to go. You give it a good showing on the photos @Oneputt so thanks for that.
Quite a good day weather wise up here today after some early morning rain. Plenty of tidying up in the garden to do, lots of fallen leaves and cutting back. Came in when hands got too sore.

Quick post tonight from me………..we are away in MH, first time for 18 months so having to relearn things🤭. Lovely little private site near Helmsley/ Pickering, it’s where we stayed first time out in MH. Will do some photos tomorrow, kind regards and good wishes to all. And Happy Birthday Meg 🎂😁

Pleased to read that you are getting out in the M/H @Takethedogalong I guess that that prevailed through it's MOT. Enjoy your trip away.
Grand photos @Oneputt I too especially like those of the Standing with Giants. Hope all is as well as can be with your family.
Happy birthday to Meg. Lovely to see her waiting patiently for her cake @richardandros
Fingers crossed that Carol is allowed home on Monday @DSB it will be a relief for you both.
After a rather disturbed night/early morning I gradually began to feel better as the day went on, so hopefully I have managed to fix myself of whatever bug caused the stomach upset. I felt fit enough to get a second, larger, wall painted during the afternoon.

@Oneputt - wonderful photos - must have been very moving. I would love to see it myself but think that's unlikely given the distance we are away.
@Takethedogalong - thank you for Meg's birthday wishes - that was most kind. I did hesitate about posting the photos, after what you've been through recently.
Got to make sure the van is all ready for tomorrow - I have a mobile MCEA engineer coming to do the service - my only real option since the demise of ALV. It was either that or taking it to another (unknown) Knaus dealer somewhere. Not sure if he will be able to do it tomorrow, though - given how the weather forecast is looking.

Great photos @Oneputt especially The Standing Giants. Are they permanent or just for Remembrance Day?
It is a misty start here today. I think it will be more clearing of leaves today. I did quite a lot yesterday but there a still a lot more. I also cleared the last of the pots of summer plants and planted the last of the bulbs and also a salvia that I had bought at Eastern Walled Garden. This one is called Lavender Lips. Got a phone call from son in NI to say grand-daughter had passed her driving test so I expect my little old Clio will be going out and about a lot!
Hope you are fully recovered @nelliethehooker and belated happy birthday to Meg @richardandros. Hope you enjoy your trip away in your MH @Takethedogalong

Belated birthday greetings to Meg @richardandros . Shes very good to wait for her cake. A very lucky girl to get a cake too. We just say happy birthday to our dog 😲. I love that the young boys nextdoor came in too. I trust they are enjoying their ?bikes?
@milliehull congratulations to your granddaughter on passing her driving test. Is she one of the cousin twins? I expect your little Clio will start it's new adventures!
Fabulous photos @Oneputt , very moving. Wasn't that where cyberyacht is based
@nelliethehooker I hope you're feeling some improvement this morning.
@Takethedogalong so glad you managed to get away. Piogniant 😢. I expect you've got the hang of all the equipment now - just sidelined, not forgotten.
LLittle of interest to report here. The misty start has cleared to brightness. Maybe some gardening later. Last big garden project sorted last week 😃 when the garden help came. Our hedges got a reprieve, as I told the help he could choose between jobs it was a damp murky day.
When we moved here just one wall was not covered in growing things - to the roof level, beyond my and the previous owners capabilities to keep restrained! I will.add tgat they had all been tidied nicely prior to completion of the sale. So the very last wall with growth, Virginia Creeper, on the garage was dug out. We'd previously trimmed it each each to ground level to try, unsuccessfully, to keep the colour as more of a shrub. Poor guy - I looked at it recently and thought let's start, but no, let's have the colour one more year now it's almost time. I love to see it on others walls - just not mine!, I'm so glad I didn't. He's a great worker and it took him 5 hours and an empty green bin. Roots like branches going out into the grass. It looks good now as 'we' mixed in 2 bags of farm manure and some compost before planting yellow daffodils and crocus. We have hundreds of daffs in the garden, I deadheaded over 600 our first year 🫣, but they are all very pale ones. So now I'll have some proper daffs! I supplied tea and 🎂.
When he finished he said I'm going to run out of daylight if I start the hedges now! Some pottered together on 'bits'. I'm now awaiting his next visit....
I hope to do some cutting back in the back garden. Still plenty of colour there, including some cosmos - just on the turn, which were blind all summer. The grass could use another cut, that should gather some leaves too.
SStill Got the dog to walk so must get a wiggle on.
Best wishes to all those still a 'bit off' and those recovering.
Ps this is my first thread read on here. Feel I know folks as friends.

Here is a coincidence, Mrs One knitted over 150 poppies for our church display. Whilst we were away the church was decorated with them. On the remembrance board there are over 200 hundred names. The coincidence is that on the board, the fourth King down was her grandfather and it was one of her poppies against his name. He was torpedoed on board HMS Aboukir in September 1914.

Thanks again for the good wishes. @nelliethehooker yes, the MH passed its MOT with flying colours, it always does. We don’t think it has done more than 200 miles in last 12 months. Everything working ok in terms of habitation as well, so bless her, an oldie but so reliable. We had a very good night, nothing blocking the bathroom door🥲 We were asking ourselves this morning just how did we manage with two Labradors in here with us al those years🤣 Testament to just how well behaved and laid back they were.❤️
I will catch up with news from others soon. Meantime, we are off to view the Flying Scotsman in all its glory today.

Since MiLs Stroke OH has been sleeping in the spare bedroom which is a bit nearer to her mothers, just in case she was needed. She has been occasionally over the last 2 years and last night she heard a bang just gone 1.30 a.m. So she arose and went to investigate:
"Are you alright mum?"
"Yes, sorry the cupboard door slipped"
"What are you doing?"
"I woke up and realised I still had my teeth in so I'm taking them out" 🤣🤣
Obviously OH had trouble getting back to sleep.

Our village postbox topper
It's in front of the school and opposite the church almost visible from the war memorial.
However I was stunned by the one in the village of Holme, lowest place above sea level in England, where our grandson goes to school. A fabulous display!
All the 'planted' poppies are knitted too. Worth enlarging to see the smaller white crosses

Just catching up on posts, @DSB I hope Carol's BP has been sorted out annd she will be home tomorrow, @richardandros what a delicious looking doggie cake 🐕 she's a a lucky dog, @nelliethehooker I hope you're feeling better again; we've both had a cold, and still not shaken it off completely, it's very persistent and lingering.... @Takethedogalong enjoy your break, it must be very poignant, first time in MH without the faithful pooch.
Enjoyed seeing the various photos, thanks for posting.

What a lovely display @Bakers2

We have had a lovely day. Not only did we see the Flying Scotsman up (very) close, but Locomotion was puffing away as well in and out of Pickering Station. There’s still something utterly magical about seen and hearing steam trains, raises the spirits fantastically. We then drove up onto the NY Moors, parked up, had a picnic then walked across Fen Bog to stand right next to the line to see FS come puffing up the top of Goathland Summit. Managed not to fall into the Bog, walked back to MH for a cuppa, and then back to site. Pickering was very busy as you might imagine, hundreds there to see trains, plus Remembrance Parade through town.
Nice photos from others, postbox topper from me as well……we drove through Thirsk on way here Saturday, Knit Bomb Central as far as North York goes, fabulous decor all over town for Remembrance Day.
Locomotion.
Flying Scotsman at Pickering.
Goathland Summit, Fen Bog is where the tracks “float” of wood piles, and wattle and sheepskin hurdles.
Postbox topper in Pickering, just one of lots of knitted stuff.

Great photos @Takethedogalong So glad you have had a good day. We saw The Flying Scotsman in Peterborough some years ago. She is quite a sight isn't she?

Just wondered how many of you use EBay? Have to say that due to difficulty in both of us getting out and about I have found it a godsend. There seems almost nothing that is not available and most of the sellers don't charge postage. We do use other online retailers but for small things I find Ebay hard to beat.

I do exactly the same thing @DavidKlyne especially as these days I'm trying to steer clear of Amazon, or at least source elsewhere first. Ironically OH has just received a voucher for Amazon! Dare say she'll use it to buy something arty from an independent selling on that platform.
Lovely photos @Takethedogalong. Good to see you both out and about.
I like all the photos of Poppy memorials etc. Having been a service child it's something close to me.
