@Oneputt - I know someone else that has "feed me" eyes like those😂

Had my third vision test since my stroke today. Unfortunately not as much progress this time compared to last. So I don't think any immediate resumption of being able to drive is likely. I will have another test in six months which will be more or less the anniversary of the stroke. The issue seems to be the upper quadrant vision in my left eye. Central and right vision is fine. Apparently after a year you can ask the DVLA to reconsider and perhaps make an exception but I suspect that won't be without an inperson assessment at a test centre. Unfortunately the DVLA are not that good at keeping you informed of progress, even telling you not to contact them as things are in progress. Obviously need to be safe on the road, not only for my sake but others as well. It does beg the question of what to do with the car as its still quite new and done less than 5000 miles. I am trying to persuade Margaret to have a try getting back into the driving seat and if that was a success perhaps looking for a smaller car?

Oh dear @DavidKlyne how disappointing. I believe you can have a driving test, but i cant recall the time frame. With regard to Margaret starting to drive again, why not find a driving instructor and have some refresher lessons? Always the comfort of dual controls - should the necessity arise. An impartial and 😉 non judgemental person. No fear of damage to your/her car. Routes the instructor would know to be quite etc etc. Try not to be too disappointed- so much easier said than done!

I'm so sorry to hear the disappointing outcome of your eyetest @DavidKlyne even though you probably wouldn't have got your hopes up too much, it's still very disappointing.
I would also suggest some refresher sessions for Margaret, as @Bakers2 has suggested. It would give her the confidence to get behind the wheel again, and then as you suggest, possibly a smaller car, if she's more comfortable with that.

Hi David. ( @DavidKlyne ) So sorry to hear about the eyesight/ driving situation.... I really hope that it will sort itself within the fullness of time. 🤞🤞🤞 Hope that Margaret will be able to drive again, too.
Loving the dog photo @Oneputt .
Carol's panic attacks seem to be subsiding a little now, @milliehull . The physio came to visit yesterday and seemed pleased with Carol's progress. She's still finding it difficult sleeping at night, but seems to be putting les weight on the crutches. By and large, I think we'll be sending back the walking frame very soon - it's served it's purpose, I think.

Margaret used to drive when had our smaller Kia Venga,a much smaller car, that was only three years ago. I think she worries that the Kia Niro is a bit on the large size and she is also worried how busy the roads are now.Funnily enough she used to drive our large 4x4 when we had one.Our car is automatic so easy enough to drive but I suspect its whats happening outside the car that concerns her? Might persuade youngest son to go out with for a trial run as she might prefer someone she knows ( but not me!) Now that we have the Blue Badge at least she wouldn't have to worry about small parking spaces. I will have to sell the benefits!!!

We have had a lovely day out, via trains. Nice easy and fast run to York, via a change at Doncaster, both trains on time, clean, comfy. Walked to Railway Museum, (which is a bit of a longer walk at the moment, as areas around are being re planned, re routed and some new developments happening to Museum itself.) Great looking at all the engines, memorabilia, some decent food, as well. Bonus when we got back to York station in evening to catch trains home, Sir Nigel Gresley was just leaving, heaving a charter train back home.

@DSB David good to hear Carol is making progress. It's surprising how things change in what seems a quite short period. I don't think Margaret used her crutches beyond the day she came home from hospital. Six weeks on she is hardly using her walking stick unless she goes outside.I suppose its the confindence of a second hip replacement in pretty short order. Fortunately the lump on the bottom of the wound is causing her less problems and it doesn't look as angry. BTW she applies Bio Oil to the scare to soften it which in turn makes it more comfortable, obviously only do this once the clips are out and the wound dry.

Your service engineer sounds like a very thorough guy @richardandros hope that he is able to sort out your damp problem. Perhaps the closure of your caravan dealer has done you an unexpected good turn.
Sorry to hear that there has not been sufficient improvement in your eyesight @DavidKlyne I appreciate that having to wait another 6 months before your next examination is quite a while but perhaps by then it will be good enough for you to get your licence back, and you can get out driving again.
@DSB I'm pleased to read that Carol is slowly improving and that her panic attacks are lessening
Grand photos of the twins @Oneputt they are just over 6 months younger than our Flyte.
Glad you had a good day out at York @Takethedogalong and the gods smiled on you with the arrival of the Sir Nigel Gresley. Did you know that it was out on a charter run?
It has been a cold and rather wet day again after a dry one yesterday. I completed the redecorating of the kitchen this morning and then booked the rest of our Xmas trip, with a couple of new for us CLs and 3 club sites. The response to my booking requests from the CL owners has been as prompt as one could ask, unlike a couple of others earlier in the year.

Thanks David ( @DavidKlyne ). Margaret did really well getting free of the crutches so quickly. I guess one of Carol's problems is that she also needs new knees and has problems with some spinal discs too, so it's multiple issues at the moment... Tomorrow is 'staples out day', so we'll know a bit more about what the wound is like. Glad to hear Margaret's wound seems to be getting better..

@DSB I'm pleased to read that Carol is slowly improving and that her panic attacks are lessening... Thank you @nelliethehooker
....anyway, it's my turn this week... a visit to the Drs on Thursday for them to freeze a couple of 'spots' on my head.... sun damage, I think..... nothing sinister fortunately...

@nelliethehooker re Sir Nigel…..no, we were just walking up station ramp and heard the unmistakable hoot a a steam train whistle, then some chuffing, clouds of steam and it was just rolling down platform we were on. Looked up what it had been doing, a Saphos Train Experience to York from Peterborough. There’s a wonderful video of it arriving in York, and leaving Doncaster on YouTube, Crunchy Nut Steam Trains. I will see if I can add a link….

@DSB Pleased to read that Carol is doing better and the panic attacks are subsiding. All the best to yourself for tomorrow too.
@Takethedogalong Same as our experience when the Flying Scotsman came into York, we had no idea, but a fantastic surprise!
@richardandros We've had a mobile engineer for a number of years, compared to having vans serviced at dealers in the past, he also seems more thorough. Since changing back from a caravan to a MH he's done a hab service on that as well. Plus of course the convenience of not having to take the van to a dealer and pick it up again. Sounds like it's a good thing for you that ALV closed down!

Anyone got proper, lying on the ground snow yet? I looked out at 4.30am, and could see a bit of sleet here, but nothing likely to lay and stick around. I think Woodhead has a warning on it, and further NE on moors is covered🤔

It was snowing quite hard here about 6.00am but think it turned to rain now so you can only see it on a few cars. Quite early for snow this far south. Also not ideal for a couple of old duffers with mobility issues!!!

A slight dusting of snow this morning, and temperatures just above freezing, nothing too bad at all but a great day for staying in.

I am keeping an eye on the weather in the Hexham/Haltwhistle area at the moment, as it’s where we are booked into a cottage in a few weeks time. Last time we were booked into same cottage, we had to choose our route up there carefully. We like to zip up to Scotch Corner, and then prefer to go over the moors via Barnard Castle, Stanhope, possibly Alston, but it was thick snow last time, and we went via Tow Law instead, still a nice journey.

@Oneputt love the birthday dogs, they look a grand pair❤️

Cold here, -1.6 degrees overnight, so frost still on the areas the sun has not reached yet, but no snow.
OH saw our GP on Monday and is now to have blood tests and blood pressure monitoring. He has not as yet decided it is Sciatica, but did say that if it is then it could take many months to resolve. He prescribed different pain killers to take at bedtime, still to see if they work any better.

Hope she gets sorted @KjellNN , and that others are recovering steadily as well. I am having a wool sort out here this morning, there have been mutterings🤣
Sorry to hear about your eyes @DavidKlyne , hope you do get something sorted. I can understand your wife’s reluctance to get behind the wheel again if she hasn’t driven a lot lately, but I would be going for the larger vehicle, rather than smaller. Much as I loved my Mini, I found other drivers gave it no respect, and didn’t think twice about pulling out in front of me, etc…. The difference when I use the Jeeps is very marked and I find the higher driving position much easier in terms of spotting potential problems. We do have some appallingly aggressive drivers locally, it seems quite marked on returning from trips elsewhere, even my OH comments, so don’t think it’s just me. Good luck with it.

A friend sent a photo of their snow covered garden this morning. She's in Northumberland, not far from Morpeth/Rothbury/Craigside. Looks pretty.
None here but bitter wind, HEAVY rain about 0600, stopped like a tap turning off about 0645. Lovely and bright now

@DavidKlyne So sorry to hear about your eye test. I do hope you get the OK to drive next time. I also hope that your OH can be persuaded to take up driving again, even if only locally. It would make such a difference to you both. I used to drive all over the country and enjoyed it but slowly lost my courage for driving. However when OH was told he mustn't drive for about 6 months a couple of years ago I bit the bullet. I still only drive locally but it makes such a difference to be independent.
You are certainly having some lovely days out @Takethedogalong, especially your train trip to York. Lovely photo.
Good to hear that you are organising your next trip away @nelliethehooker.
I was back on duty at the Cathedral shop yesterday where they are now in full swing gearing up for Christmas. They have a Christmas tree festival this year where local groups, schools, charities etc. have all decorated a tree and it is beginning to look lovely. It is at the far end of the building beyond the crossing and people are being asked for a donation to go and see them so we are all gearing ourselves up for the odd 'awkward' customer who doesn't want to pay a donation 🙄.
No snow here just rain overnight but a bitterly cold wind.

@DavidKlyne - you must be so disappointed about your eye test - let's hope things improve in the next six months. I know I would be so frustrated if I couldn't drive. I also agree with @Takethedogalong about cars. I find some drivers so intimidating when I drive Ros's Corsa - whereas I certainly don't in mine and you certainly get a far better viewpoint sitting in a big 4x4 rather than a road-hugging 'shopping trolley'!
Weather is diabolical here - the northeasterly is coming straight off the sea and hammering the back of our house and it seems far stronger than when we supposedly had that latest storm. Heavy rain on and off all night and this morning and it seems to be on the verge of turning to snow. Since Driffield (12 miles away) is forecast to get heavy snow, I wouldn't be surprised to see some soon.

@richardandros we used to call the Mini “shopping trolley”🤣 It’s living a good life now, out on the Isle of Axholme, where main danger is from a tractor or combine rather than the school run, delivery drivers or anyone high as a kite on a less than legal substance☹️That bitter East wind is hitting North and East Yorks indeed.

@milliehull nice to see all Xmas trees. The little church in Castleton always has some small but unusually decorated Christmas trees, all done by lots of the local businesses, charities, etc.. in and around the village. The Club usually does one. We are pondering on Peterborough/Ely as a possible train ride out next, but no dates yet. Think we might be able to do a couple of nights in Norwich as well via Peterborough, it’s not the easiest place for us to get to, and we have long had Norwich Cathedral on our list of “must visit”. Need to explore train times more. We were tired out yesterday, on our feet most of day, and easily cleared 10,000 steps apiece, so would need at least a night over.

No snow over here but a bitterly cold wind coming in off the Irish Sea as we found out when we nipped into town this afternoon. Been nice at home when the sun was out as we're South facing for the living rooms.
Admin day, one of the jobs being sorting out the Household insurance.
Lovely photos from @Oneputt, @Takethedogalong and @milliehull.
Promises to be colder tomorrow. Good luck to those affected.
Hope your wife gets some respite soon @KjellNN as it seems to have been going on for quite a while now.
