Weβre a man down for the next month. Our Grandson went to America yesterdaywith his girlfriend - partly a two week study tour of American dairy farms (with Dairy Shorthorns) and two weeks just touring.
So no days off for us!I canβt help but worry a bit, but then remember when his father was 20 he went to Australia and New Zealand for a year with a friend- with just a couple of contacts and he survived!

Itβs another symptom of overfishing our seas @richardandros. At one time pilchards were the mainstay of our local fishing industry but then along came the big boys and scooped them all up leaving too few to maintain the breeding stock. The same with mackerel. Give it time and they should reappear but I suspect the low prices have gone forever.

@richardandros - will these do ?
Lots of them available in . . . . . . Portugal on my last trip in March - less than 1β¬ a tin. π

@Freddy55 pleased to read your gout is settling down. I sincerely hope that continues. You have my sympathies I've had PF since February, fingers crossed this shockwave treatment works. It's certainly more comfortable. I only know this as it was painful yesterday, result of the last treatment? To add to my woes I tweaked my back over a week ago, so feeling frustrated and im at home!. I do hope you get to see the hall before you head off.
@Goldie146 I hope your grandson has a wonderful time and that whilst he's away everything on the farm goes as smoothly as possible.
ThThis morning started beautifully, I rose early as it was that tempting! I watered the plants, aiming to get them in today. Filled the bird baths, topped up the water feature - it's very breezy and it blows it out if the container. Fed the birds and myself. It started to rain! Damp, cool dog walk and back indoors for a hot chocolate!
Yesterday the plumber arrived, water pipes shifted and still able to use washing machine. Not as clean and tidy as Friday's electrician. Now awaiting ceiling repair and plaster, plus making good. Once dry decorator in, then units in. Units being delivered tomorrow, flat pack. I'm sure the finished product will be worth it, but whilst contemplating such things comfortably in your lounge it seems a few days at most π π.
I need to find some indoor jobs for the morning and fingers crossed I can place and plant this afternoon.
@richardandros I hope you can track down pilchards/sardines for Meg.

Apparently, most of the sardines in UK now come from Moroccan waters, and they have overfishedβΉοΈ Not sure on the state of Mackerel supplies in the shops, but itβs a good alternative for dogs.

Plenty of Sardines in tins here in France as OH has them usually no dressings on as he does not like the flavoured ones I am not keen also plenty of Mackerel in tins.
Well it was cooler here yesterday but upto 27C today and a storm on the way for overnight.
Catching up on a few inside chores and some paperwork.

@Freddy55 - Gout! Picked it up years ago as a direct result of Kidney Disease. I am now on as high a dosage of medication as I'm allowed and, touch wood, haven't had an attack in quite a number of years. I would recommend you see your GP and have him arrange blood tests which will check your Urea levels, the Gout forming substance. Then he might prescribe a suitable medication. Gout is very painful and very restricting, as you know, so I hope you find some solution for it.

Had a super day. Thought the weather was going to interfere with our plans but it played ball and we escaped without a drop of rain falling on us until we were ensconced on site. Quite breezy but warm.
Drove to Llangoed, a small village a few miles East of Beaumaris on Angelsey. Parked the Van and walked via woodlands, road and beach to Penmon Priory. The Priory itself is but a shell but St.Seiriol Church is still there and functioning as well as a magnificent Dovecote, capable of holding 930 Pigeons!! Coo, as they say.
Then drove to a new site CS near Llanberis. Very nice, a bit pricey but it has a Showerr block and WiFi plus public transport within 50 metres and a disused railway line right outside for a walk to Llanberis tomorrow.
Photos to follow when we get home.

@Bakers2 , as Iβve said previously, I used to suffer with PF, lasted for around 9 months I think. So painful , it felt like I had a golf ball under my foot. One of the best things to relieve it was using a gel pack that one puts in the freezer then rest the foot on it. As it was gel it didnβt freeze and moulded to the shape of the foot. I always use insoles now to give a bit of support, but I still get the odd twinge. Iβve never heard of shockwave treatment though. I hope it works for you, as I know how painful and debilitating it is.
@Wherenext , the first time I had gout, I did actually visit the doctor. He told me that I should go in for a blood test when the symptoms had subsided, this was around two years ago. Since then Iβve been meaning go and have it done but have never got round to it, silly, I know π As this is only the third time Iβve had an occurrence, I suppose I havenβt attached enough importance to it, I will now!

Arrived at Windermere C&CC site earlier today, a day later than planned. Took 3+ hours driving from Pocklington. @nelliethehooker , the route you suggested was spot on π I was a bit apprehensive about driving given the gout, but it was fine. Walking is still painful, so not sure what weβre going to do tomorrow, maybe just go out for a drive. On Thursday we head on to Moffat.

@richardandros hope you find a supplier for Meg's pilchards, can't have her going without! I will keep my open when we shop and if I spot any I will let you know.
Good to hear that the weather stayed fine for your journey to your site, @Wherenext and hope it stays that way for the rest of your trip.

Another lovely day spent outdoors. We had to get some food first off so walked the mile there and back to the local Co-op. Then we picked the rucksacks up from the Van and set off to Llanberis. Quite sunny with a fair breeze. Got to the lake (Padarn) that Llanberis sits at the bottom of and found we had to venture up into the hills to get to it as the Lakeside Railway didn't allow a Footpath next to it.
Still it gave us an exhilarating walk eventually arriving in town via a lovely woodland descent. The sun stayed with us all the way. Cup of tea at the station and homeward to the Van. More miles walked than we anticipated so hopefully we'll sleep well tonight. Can't believe how lucky we've been although we are due rain any time now.
The 3 Motorhomes that were here last night left tonight but we have 3 other M/homes arrived plus a tent top. No caravans.
Rain has arrived.

Thanks Rowenna, it appears to be fixed now, fingers crossed. I see that the post I tried to write has last night has appeared this afternoon. I will now attempt to complete it and do a separate post for today. Cheers
I am still having trouble accessing some of the @ profiles but can usually work my around them.

So sorry to hear that you have gout @Freddy55 OH has suffered from it from time to time and I know how painful and debilitating it can be. Such a shame when you are away in your van.
You certainly sound as though you are having an excellent trip away @Wherenext with good weather.
We have had a busy time since we got home from N Devon. I have finished the washing and ironing. Why is there so much when you think you have only taken the basics?! Our SIL is on a school trip to Spain and daughter, who is an accountant, is working at clients all week so we are helping out collecting the grandchildren from the school bus and I also took grand-daughter to the dentist yesterday. We also have quite a bit to do in the garden. Our garden help arrived yesterday morning and gamely worked in a heavy drizzle with his wet weather gear on. Just after he left just before lunch the heavens opened and it was a deluge. We certainly didnt need to do any watering last night! It has been a much better weather today but the rest of the week doesn't look too good. Our grand-daughter is doing her DofE this weekend so I think she might get a bit soggy.
I wonder how @DEBSC is getting on with her treatment this week. I hope she is having a better week staying near the hospital.

@milliehull please send rain my way. Just finished putting in 40 plants - ground like concrete! Ran out of steam, but feel less stressed about what needs doing. About the same for tomorrow but bulk are bedding plants for the gaps.
Was at it about 1130 after clearing space in the garage for utility room units, forgot until the reminder of delivery for 0900 popped up on my phone. Sorted before they arrived. Walked the dog over the fields. Finished about 1830 then produced a quick dinner.
Good to read others news. Just collapsed on the sofa.

Goodness @Bakers2 did you not get that absolute deluge yesterday around lunchtime? I am amazed as you are only a few miles from me. I will do my best if we get some tomorrow. π¨

Continued from yesterday!
@Freddy55 glad to hear that you thought the route was fine, and I hope you got up to Moffat without any problems either. Hope you are feeling less pain from the gout and that it doesn't resurface during the rest of your trip.
We had a very pleasant day at Glamis Castle, with a walk around the Kitchen Garden, the woodland and along the Macbeth trail. After lunch we took in the tour of the Castle. We were surprised just how many visitors were about as most of the other castles we have visited this trip have been relatively quiet. Back at the site we were given a guided tour of the walled garden that site owners live in and are slowly bringing back to life after years of neglect.
Another day another bridge!
Carving on the trail.

@milliehull the air changed around lunchtime, we'll we were late 1400. But nothing at all. Hosepipe has been on for hours as I planted. My brother is Essex has had a wet afternoon π₯². Our forecast for tomorrow is showers π€from 0500, it was 0200. I'll be like your garden help if it comes π

After more rain through the night today was fine for most of the day again, with just the odd short rain shower. We took a lovely walk through the woods along by the River South Esk from Cortachy up to the Sawmill Bridge, where we had lunch and watch a Red Squirrel crossing on the balustrade, before returning. Then we drove on to see the Scott Watson Monument and I walked up to the Airlie Tower.

Grand photos @nelliethehooker. You've had a super trip this time.
We had some rain during the night but it cleared early this morning so ventured into Caernarfon using our bus passes. There's a Spanish Galleon moored there which came as a bit of a surprise. Photos tomorrow.
Full house tonight. Enjoyed the 3 night break enormously. Home tomorrow.

Thanks @Wherenext we certainly have had a good trip, helped of course by the great weather so far. Glad you have had a very enjoyable time away. Have a safe drive home.
We continued our gorge walks today, this time from the Blue Door, at Edzell, upstream along the East side of the River North Esk. We would have visited the Edzell Castle but it is only open at the weekends, so instead we stop stopped off to view the 2 hillforts, White and Brown Caterthuns where I walked up to the former. The day has stayed mostly fine but still with a cool wind.
A couple of photos of the river gorge
Firstly showing the Fish Ladder at the top of the gorge.
The one below is from the road bridge about 1/2 down the gorge.

Thanks @milliehull and as far as the rain is concerned could you please keep it down your way for a while yet!ππ

@milliehull @nelliethehooker yes we got rain..slow start, but planted in the showers, hosepipe on too - that's how bad it is! Steadyish showers this afternoon and evening. I'm more than happy with the forecast. Still got 18 cosmos to go in, but had the grandson's this afternoon and WI tonight. Builders are back tomorrow..........
I had an earnest discussion with our just 4 year old grandson about the need for rain. He arrived wanting to look at the veg garden. Then later we discussed crops, grandma you've got crops ππ€£, needing the water.

A real day of sunshine and showers.
I got caught in the middle of the fields in a sharp passing shower on the dog walk. Naturally I wasn't dressed for it. A refreshing change and novelty π
Builder in π . Hopefully the ceiling repair and replaster will meet his standards, he's not sure. Might need to be recorded after all..... A

Ah, warm rain @heddlo. I remember being 5 y.o. and standing out in a "shower" in Singapore for the first time. Never experienced warm rain before. 10 minutes later after rain had stopped I was bone dry. Wouldn't attempt it now in North Wales!
Home in the dry for lunchtime. Stopped off at Conwy RSPB to stretch the legs and get a coffee. We had to be let in as they had the height barrier in place. Apparently they heard that were Travellers in the area and have had problems in the past with the RSPB having to get court orders and bailiffs in to move them. We told them we were the Posh Travellers on a scouting mission.π
Some photos follow of our recent brief stay at a CS near Llanberis.
The view from our lunch bench on our walk to Llanberis through a lovely but steep woodland.
The bridge in its entirety
