@RedKite 😁I used to scour charity shops for semi precious jewellery, and real/cultured pearls, to re use, but the shops are much more savvy nowadays, and it’s rare to find a re use bargain. I really enjoy making over a treasured piece of nice jewellery that someone wants updating, or totally re worked. It’s usually old sets of double or triple strands of pearls that someone has inherited, but find very old fashioned. You can often rework stuff like this into some nice more contemporary pieces that will get more use. A friend of mine stopped one old gent customer (she owns an Italian deli/coffee shop) giving away some of his deceased wife’s jewellery, as she could tell it was worth a lot of money. He did give some to charity, but was able to sell and give himself some treats. In return he gave her a stunning string of beautiful AAA quality real, not cultured, pearls. She asked me to restring them for her, renew the clasps, and she wears them most days now. I have just finished a Pearl necklace for myself, single strand but Chocolate coloured. To go with a wedding hat🀭

We have had oldest grandson here today for several hours to help in the garden, he was working hard so we got quite a bit done as the weather was not bad. He will come again on Friday weather permitting, but right now the forecast is not looking great.

He has not been here for a very, very long time as it is easier for us to visit them, so he was navigating using Google maps and had no idea where he really was. He did say geography is not his best subject !!

He has asked us to save up his wages for him meantime so he does not get tempted to spend anything.

We got a fair bit of the timber that was lying around cleared away, it was too heavy for me to lift alone. Now cut up into sensible pieces , bagged up, and he has taken 4 bags away with him as his dad has a log burner. There is however still plenty more to deal with. And lots of other jobs too, we have been neglecting the garden for a while.

We had thought that, as a student, he would be finding a summer job, but as his parents are paying for his accommodation , and feeding him now he is back home, his dad reckoned that he did not feel the need to earn any money. Hopefully he will soon realise that work pays, money does not grow on trees, etc etc. We needed some garden help so offered to pay him to come here, his dad was not optimistic that he would, but he seems happy enough to come, and it is nice to spend time with him.

St Petroc's looks lovely @milliehull as does Craigievar Castle @nelliethehooker. Here in East Yorkshire it's been a showery day, so we haven't really ventured very far. We drove into Bridlington, but too wet to go down to the beach. The North each looked very wet underfoot, and the tide was a long way out on the South beach. Instead we went on to Eastfield Garden Centre for a hot drink (and cake, of course... 🀣🀣).

What a wonderful 'fairy tale' castle @nelliethehooker. You are certainly finding some wonderful places to visit.

The weather has been pretty foul here today as well @DSB. We did go to Saunton Sands this afternoon when the downpour eased to a drizzle to give Jessie the dog a run on the beach. It was a bit blowy!!

@milliehull and @DSB sorry to hear thst you have had wet weather, as once more it has been mainly sunny, if a bit blowy, here today, with just an odd very short light rain shower. We apparently missed any of the rain on site as OH's latest round of washing dried outside while we were off site. We had intended to have a drive along the south side of the R.Dee today but the road bridge across it at Aboyne is still closed to traffic, as it was last year. Instead we had another couple of walks through the woods and along part of the Deeside Way.

Has poured all day here. At least yesterday's soft rain has loosened the top soil so this lot will sink in.

Had another inoculation today early on and was allocated yet another daily tablet to take. I'm going to start rattling soon. Had a text to call into GP as they also want to see me. Nice to be popularπŸ˜‚. So, yet another blood test.

We went looking for carpet tiles after visiting the Surgery as we don't like the utilitarian carpet in The Van. Quiet afternoon as MiL at craft class for 3 hours enjoying herself.

Well another shower after a showery day yesterday and Monday. Rain very welcome and has been gentle - just what the garden ordered. It's amazing how quickly the grass greens!

A visitor to the garden today. I have no need to feel guilty. It was our male pheasant - just the one tail feather and not quite so handsome. Goes to show they really don't have a brain!

My back is slightly easier, but I still need assistance. My foot has settled down after the last treatment, took longer this time. 🀞. I certainly don't get stabbing pains regardless or rest or activity, which caused gasps......

I'm sorry for those away with wet weather. Hopefully, it will improve. @nelliethehooker is worth following round the country and must have led a very exemplary life for the amount of sunshine that comes his way πŸ˜‰ . Does he recall the real wet stuff? πŸ˜‚. However I'm loving reading the posts and seeing photos.

Good to hear recovery's for those who've had upsets - nothing worse @RedKite and mrs @Wherenext , I hope new tablets jabs and blood test go well for Mr @Wherenext. Thinking of @DEBSC too. I hope I've not forgotten anyone on the 'sick list'. Still nothing from @DavidKlyne

Right time to start the routine stuff, all very slow but at least I can today!

II'm delighted to read @KjellNN has some help. Don't overwork him and give him regular hours πŸ˜‚

    Enjoy your day folks

@KjellNN lovely to have some grandchild helpπŸ‘πŸ‘ Great idea to run a wage/savings account for him. Only a suggestion, but as he seems willing, why not open a Premium Bond account for him, and invest his wages in there for him? Chance of winning a bit more, and he can watch his savings grow, which is a great incentive. Our parents did this for me and my sister from a very early age, we had presents but any money we earned/had given went into a PB account, which we could watch grow. Mine gave me a substantial amount to put towards a mortgage when I needed it, the best present I could possibly have had. Learning how to save for the really important things in life is such a valuable life skill.

A frustrating day, particularly for the Ladies. OHs ECCO sandals finally gave up the ghost at the end of our recent break after 6/7 years of sterling summer service so we, rather she, went walking sandal hunting. Go Outdoors, Foot Asylum, Shuh and Mountain W/House all failed miserably. Looks like we'll have to head to her least favourite place The Outlet Village at Ellesmere Port. We dropped into AbleWorld so that MiL could get some new slippers. Apparently slippers aren't worn in Summer! Hence no slippers in stock.

I was fine as I popped into a Supermarket that sells my requirements. Nevertheless I was driving so the morning wiped out.

Did some gardening in the afternoon. Did actually get quite hot out of the breeze. Garden now looking refreshed.

What CL are you staying at @Freddy55?

Hope your trip goes well @Freddy55 and you have as good weather as we have had up here.

Looks like a much better day for you @DSB but a shame you couldn't get a walk on the beach.

@Bakers2 we come from Cumbria so certainly do know what real rain is, there would be no Lakes if we didn't! :) Pleased to hear that you are slowly getting over your sore back.

Glad to hear that you have picked up your caravan @Oneputt and hope you too have a good trip to Hampshire in good weather.

Still the weather holds, with more sunshine and just the odd short shower, but not enough to wet the ground really. We had a walk along the Deeside trail again today, this time from the Cambus of May carpark before a short drive up Glen Tanar. The photos below are the Tower o'Ess, which stands at the entrance to the Glen.

A much better day weatherwise. Bright and breezy and no rain. We visited lots of our old memories today - Combe Martin (and had a cream tea), Ifracombe (for crazy golf for our grandson), Heddons Mouth and Hunters Inn. We even drove down The Sterridge Valley to see the place where we holidayed (called Pink Heather) for many years when our children were young.

I do hope MIL gets her new sandals @Wherenext. Happy holidays @Freddy55 and @Oneputt

I have to say, even though there were some reservations regarding the new forum, I think the image facility is so much better, the pics really come to life, great stuff. @nelliethehooker and @KjellNN , I’ll most likely be wanting to pick your brains regarding routes at some point, I hope you don’t mind πŸ˜‰

@milliehull , fab pics. That cream tea looks very tempting, I must resist! πŸ™‚

Great photos @milliehull you've been about in Devon more than we have this year I’m glad the weather has cheered up for you. I hope that the humans and the dog avoided all the ticks at Heddons mouth, though it is a lovely walk. You even had your cream tea the Devon way… don’t tell anyone in Devon but I prefer the Cornish way, jam first but shhh. Loving everyone else’s photos as well.
What am I doing today, now let me think, ah yes driving to Exeter, again.

A dull but mainly dry day so far so a few outside jobs done. MiL brough home some plants from her craft class the other day so we planted them. A lot easier after the recent rain. Hedges trimmed as we have a garden waste collection on Monday. Must admit I'm getting fed up with my blood thinners. Every time I trim the Berberis or Holly I end up bleeding. Mrs.WN also getting fed up having to sort me out.πŸ˜‚

Typically the sun has made a late appearance.

Lovely photos again folks. Good to see you had a nostalgic day yesterday @milliehull. Hope today has been as good to you.

Oh, it's not just me then @Wherenext ! You can always tell when I've been in the garden - my hands are covered in plasters by the time I have finishedπŸ™„ Tried using gloves but that just frustrates me because you can't pick things up so I end up taking them off!

Lovely photos, @milliehull your day out yesterday will certainly have brought back memories for you. Have a lovely meal tonight and a safe journey home tomorrow.

@Freddy55 you too appear from you grand photos to have a grand day. I will help all I can with routes, just let me know which way you intend heading.

Pleased to hear that you got home safely @DSB and had a pleasant stay away, even if the weather wasn't perfect.

Lovely photos @Freddy55 . I dont think we have ever been to Biddulph Grange. It looks a lovely place.

We have been to Arlington Court today. We used to go many years ago and it was just as enjoyable today. We took it in turns to go round the house while someone looked after the dog. We then went to Mortehoe. Meal out tonight. Home tomorrow.

@Bakers2 just to put your mind to rest we had quite heavy rain through the night and a little more this morning, but we were able to get packed up dry. There were a few short light showers as we drove south, with thick cloud on the hills but it has been fine and sunny since we arrived at the THS, but with a strong wind. The temperature rose steadily through the afternoon and got to above 20C, and we now have a red sky.

    20250529_214526.jpg

This is the last weekend of the meet so not many units on the site.

    20250529_160519.jpg

We have a huge area behind the rally area which is great for walking Flyte. This photo shows less than half of the available space for walking.

@nelliethehooker I didn't mean to wish rain on you! And yes I know you have a house where you check in ocassionally πŸ˜‰, in Cumbria πŸ˜‚

Shock horror I heard on the ITV teatime news that there are thinking of announcing a drought in the NW....... I rest my case your honour 🀣

Lovely photos folks, keep 'em coming.

@DEBSC just tomorrow and that's the 1st week done 😘. Thinking of you.

Electrician in today, as is 'normal with this house, a hiccup. Sockets moved, ceiling light - wasn't over keen on it anyway, needed to be lowered for ceiling to be fixed and replastered, had to be drilled out above in the 'loft area' so new one to be fitted. Builder surprised to find a breeze block wall up in the loft area too - means he can't get the pipes hidden in the trunking housing the soil pipe. Insulation up there, contained carpet pieces! (This area was for the 1st 2 years tandem garage joining the house, so it has a loft area where I presume it was once void.

Very breezy again here but nice and bright, with some sun, and quite warm. Managed to get purple sprouting plants in. Didn't realise I'd need the raised beds so young 🀣.

Also collected a sheep fleece from a local farm. Last year I used, and already brought some more this year sheep wool pellets again this year as a slug deterrent. Got to work out how to use the fleece. Jolly sight cheaper, too. It's a female one and 'clicked' with the green ram πŸ˜‰..I was offered a choice of fleeces as well. I thought the green would go better with the plants πŸ˜‰

The forecast for Friday has improved a bit, so we will be having GS over to assist me in the garden. After tomorrow we are not sure when he will come again. Saturday is to be the better weather day this weekend, but DD has booked me for Saturday to come and do some woodwork for her, and Sunday looks to be pretty wet at the moment.

We will be here on Monday and Tuesday, but his dad is off to the USA on Sunday for a 2 week business trip and wants GS to be at home to keep an eye on his Nanna. She has Alzheimers and needs a fair bit of supervision , and Mondays and Tuesdays are the days that DIL is at work, so we will find other jobs to do until the next time he can come.

Today we were looking after the boys, and I had a check up at the hospital in the afternoon. X-rays first to check the state of my lungs and ribs, then a chat with the lung specialist, so now I have been declared fully mended and discharged from their care. While away on holiday in April, I had a telephone appointment with the surgeon who removed my rogue parathyroid gland, and she has also discharged me, following the results of my blood tests, so things are going well, meantime anyway!

Left here at 10am for 12.15 appointment in Exeter. Took an hour just to get to the other side of Barnstaple due to roadworks and traffic jams. Holidaymakers heading home after the school holidays, lots of top boxes, caravans, etc. The Link road crammed so we took the back road, 3 tractors one after the other. As soon as we got on the motorway I phoned the hospital to say I’d be late. We got there at 12.40. I went straight in, then out again in 15 minutes. The treatment is fine so far, it’s just the journey, but worse than ever today. We had decided to go afterwards to John Lewis for lunch then OH wanted to get something in shops in Exeter. Our usual very large car park was full, not usually even like that at Christmas, tried 2 others but the same, half term I suppose, so we just drove back home. Tired now, not the best of days. At least I’ve got two days off now. @milliehull I hope your journey home was ok and pleased that you got to visit memorable places again.
