Some other days.
A worshipping Stone now moved into the Church at Penmon Priory on Angelsey. The stone has been dated to c1000.
The Dovecote at the Priory, reportedly able to hold 930 Pigeons. Amazing scenery inside of all the holes and a stone staircase to enable the Pigeon Master to reach the ones at the top but it didn't photograph easily.
Thinking of downsizing to a smaller Caravan? Very snug.

Fine photos @Wherenext I particularly like the bridge.
@Bakers2 sorry to read that you got caught out in the rain, but it will have done your garden some good. Hope the building work is soon completed to your satisfaction.
We have moved over the Tay to a THS near Crail. Apart from the odd spot of rain near St Andrews it has been another fine day, and this evening the wind has died down too. We were one of the first to arrive and now there are about 20 units on site with a roughly even mix of caravans and M/Hs. There is a footpath opposite the site which leads down onto the Fire Coastal Path, and walking along it northwards I came across Hermit's Well and the Caiplie Coves, which were used for religious worship in the 9th Centuary, and as lodgings for a hermit during WWII.
A view of the Isle of May from the coastal path.

@nelliethehooker my garden is loving the rain. It's raining at the moment and forecast for the day. Again, the liquid is welcome and needed, but I hope the off switch has remembered it will be needed soon 🤔..I'm still awaiting the 4th waterbutt in the chain to be replenished....... which shows how gentle it's been.
I'm delighted you're still enjoying decent weather, thats how it should be enjoy the area. We were generally lucky in the same way when touring. Keep us posted with your tales and photos.
@Wherenext glad you've had a lovely break. Short and refreshing. Take care.
Generally very quiet on herefor a long time but less posts to catch up on these days. Hope folks are OK? A

Lovely photos @Wherenext You sound as though you had a lovely trip with reasonable weather. I hope MIL behaved herself while you were away.
Also more great photos @nelliethehooker. You have had some great weather and visited some very ineresting places.
I did a tour of the Cathedral yesterday morning. It wasnt the best tour I have ever done as 1 member of the group kept wandering off and I had to wait for her to catch up. At one point I lost her completely and had to leave the group to go looking for her. She then said they were pushed for time as their car parking was about to run out so she and her friends left early which her friends werent too happy about. She really disrupted the tour for the other 2 people who were with me. I ended up with a headache.

@nelliethehooker @Wherenext loving all your pictures and hearing about your trips. Such interesting places.
Yes it has been quiet on here lately @Bakers2 I have noticed that too, perhaps everyone is busy. Hope your foot and back are feeling better.
We are just getting the house ready for our 2 weeks of dog sitting, should be fun! Otherwise, apart from decorating most of the upstairs for the last couple of months we haven’t been doing anything exciting. After the dog goes home we are then preparing for our son and family from Macau to visit in July. Looking forward to seeing how much our grandson has changed - he was only just walking when we saw them early last year and they are wondering if he maybe on the Autism spectrum as at nearly 2 and a half he isn’t speaking, just the word a B for ball etc. He’s a happy little lad, sociable and friendly, good motor skills etc. Time will tell perhaps.
How are things going with you @InaD after your hip replacement? Also @DavidKlyne how is Margaret doing? I’m still working out whether or not to go ahead with seeing the consultant again about my second hip job. I know it needs doing as I struggle some days, but it’s just taking that step.
Re lack of Pilchards @richardandros, no we haven’t seen any in evidence either. In Waitrose yesterday the whole Sardine etc shelf was completely empty, it has been the same in other supermarkets as well recently, very odd.Right now breakfast, and more jobs to get done. Have a good weekend everyone.

@milliehull I admire your patience, I’d have just left her and carried on, but then I don’t suffer fools gladly, not something I’m proud of but I think it comes of working with the public for 30 years.
Love seeing all the photos and hearing of people’s travels.
The caravan worked out quite well, it was nice and very well equipped. The views of the sea and coast were amazing, very panoramic. We didn’t do anything on site as that was all activities for families, lots of young children there. OH wasn’t so pleased as we had bad almost non existent internet connection. Much easier ride to the hospital though. My appointments are all for early afternoon but we did manage a couple of trips out. I’ve wanted to go to NT La Ronde for ages so we went one afternoon, very interesting with nice grounds but I was a little tired that day so welcomed sitting with a cuppa in the grounds. Another day we visited Teignmouth and Dawlish, We haven’t been to Dawlish for ages but unfortunately found it looking rather tired and not as it used to be.
Hospital treatment ok. The staff are lovely, all very cheerful, lots of them and all very young. Apparently it’s the busiest part of the big hospital with 3 machines running all day, it’s a bit like a conveyer belt. I often saw the same people in one of the 3 waiting rooms, so that was nice and chatty, all been or going on similar journeys, just so sad that there were so many of us, I’m afraid it’s all a bit of an eye opener. The treatment isn’t too bad. They even asked me what music I would like yesterday but as they are all so young I didn’t think they would appreciate Status Quo (or even have it) so I let them choose, surprisingly they chose Irish Country music. I’m very glad to be home and not having to go back for the weekend though, and I’m just over half way through now.3 -
@DEBSC I worked with the general public for years for the NHS and my boss always said that the more I smiled she knew that I was getting more annoyed with people! (it was a 'fixed' grin)I am so pleased that you have another week of your treatment over and done with and that it mostly worked better for you staying nearer to the hospital. Are you staying over next week as well? Yes it is very sad that so many people are needing treatment but wonderful that the NHS can provide it. I wish you all the very best for next week.
@Bakers2 I prefer gentle rain for the garden rather that a deluge. I just hope we don't get the heavy rain and thunder forecast for this afternoon. I fear for all my plants.

🤣 @milliehull @DEBSC I had that glazed eye, fixed grin at work as well. I am afraid I have little tolerance beyond safety nowadays for some fools. I either let them get on with it, ignoring them, or offer a simple bit of please don’t do that. Latest example was someone behind us in theatre last Sunday, playing Candy Crush very loudly. I just turned around and politely told her that I didn’t mind her playing Candy Crush, but perhaps she needed help with the “silent” on her phone. Her husband was less polite to her, took the phone off her and muttered something unrepeatable to her🤭 Fools walk amongst us.
@Wherenext love the photos, that’s the interesting little priory we found on our Wales week when we met up with you. Was the little man in his hut, taking a few pence to go onto the lighthouse, nice cafe along there👍
@nellie the hooker (😡link not working) more great photos@bakers we have had rain as well, garden is green again, alas the weeds are flourishing again🥴

I have also had various run ins with the general public. For a time I worked in the well known High Street chemist, I could never understand why some people thought that shouting and swearing would help their cause! It was same in my last job which was dealing with customers on the telephone, an energy company, if I had a pound for everyone who was ‘ coming to get me to sort this out’ I’d be rich. I do understand how frustrating and annoying problems can be but the person on the end of the phone is a human being and mostly they can only pass the issue onto someone who deals with their particular query, well, at the time I was working there anyway. Of course I’m always calm and patient on such calls.😉😜
@DEBSC glad to hear you are feeling ok after your second week of treatment. When my sister was going through this she also commented on how many people she met every week, she even met a neighbour who was having treatment at the same time as her. My sister ended up giving her lifts to and fro to the hospital for the last couple of weeks, at least she said she felt better that she was helping someone else out.

Sounds like you made the right choice @DEBSC. Glad that things went well and hope it continues that way.
@Takethedogalong - we were walking from Llangoed so didn't get to the lighthouse. Good job we were walking as well as I'm not sure I would paid the £12.50 toll charge from the Priory to it. Motorhomers beware!!
The Public! Yep, they can be a real pain but there are some gems in there. I used to give short shrift to people who told me that they knew my speciality better than me. Better off without them. Bit difficult for you as a guide though @milliehull. Yes, MiL did behave herself. She's quite good when we're away, even refusing to have a tipple until we get home. The hardest bit is trying to get her not to overdo it but old dogs etc….
Had a heavy rain burst just now. I think it's going to be on and off all day. Shame for those that have events lined up for today.

Pleased that all went well for you @DEBSC and that you're getting towards the end of your treatment. I'm sure you'll breathe a sigh of relief when it's all over - but it's all for the best.
As for "not suffering fools gladly", having spent twenty odd years in the Police force - I've met plenty and - no - I don't🙄 'Nuff said!!
Had a busy few days getting things ready for tomorrow when we leave for Broadway and then on to Dartmouth on Tuesday. I know I will be relieved when we get there. However, the weather forecast for the end of next week onwards is looking good😄
2 -
@milliehull I'm completely with you on gentle rain. What we've had has been extremely beneficial and just what the garden ordered.
@Takethedogalong yes we too now have a green garden. It was looking like late August during May.
OH putting the last cosmos in. We've not had time/energy to weed and turn soil whilst planting - that can happen soon or fingers crossed the plants merge and smother them.
I got it wrong again on the dog walk, overdressed this time 😂. I watched the dark clouds miss us. Can't have had much overnight as 3rd waterbutt not yet overspilling into 4th. Beautifully sunny at present. Forecast is heavy rain and thunderstorms, but hopefully, we'll just get a gentle shower?🤞. I hope so, as I have to drive for my next, 4th past the halfway point, on my foot. It's been really painful since Tuesday, not so bad today. Well see later. @heddlo thank.you my back is OK now. Must now make time for core exercises. Anyone have hours for sale?
@DEBSC glad that's another week of treatment behind you. Sounds like a much better journey too. Are you repeating it next week?
@takethedogalong these @'s are acting strange.... sometimes giving me a double letters immediately after it, especially at the start of a paragraph. I often get the initial letter of my second word capitalized too..... the quirks are still with us!
I too did public facing for years, actually I loved it, but like @milliehull had a smile that colleagues knew was not natural. I'm with @heddlo why do folks think being rude, shouting and swearing will aid their cause?
@Wherenext im always amazed by your MiL, long may she continue in a similar vein!
JJust Checked OH's outfit for next Sunday, mine is already sorted 😉. Need to shorten his new trousers, knew that when purchased 3 weeks ago..... but I think he was hoping an improved leg length, he'd grow into them if he waited a bit 😂. New jacket looks fabulous too. Next hurdle is to have him up, dressed and at the church for 1030. Think of me.....

Chucking it down here in Devon. @milliehull no we are not staying next week, I’ve got to the stage where I need my own comfortable bed as a bit sore. Daughter is taking me one day and my brother another so not quite so much driving for us. Thank you all for the good wishes.
Sarcasm was my mode of coping with some of the nastier public at work, people didn’t complain as it was subtle, but I used to train the new staff and my boss once asked me not to train them in sarcasm as well. 😊 Well done at the theatre @Takethedogalong that made me smile.1 -
Well done on your comment to the lady at the theatre @Takethedogalong. So annoying when someone spoils your enjoyment like that. Some years ago we took one of our grand-daughters, who was 3 at the time, to see her 5 year old brother in his school nativity play. It had been impressed on her that she was to be good and quiet while there which she was. However the woman behind us started talking very loudly during the performance and before I could stop her grand-daughter turned round, put her finger to her lips and shushed her. I have never seen anyone look so abashed as that woman in my life!
My friend has finally moved so I have her automatic Kia Picanto at long last. DIL has taken me out for a test drive this morning and all went well (I think). So I just have to practice now.
It is raining here as well @DEBSC but no thunder as forecast so far thank goodness.

@heddlo Thank you for asking; I'm doing very well, saw the consultant last week for my 8 week check-up and was discharged. Physio discharged me the next day too. I'm really pleased with the result, and still can't believe that it all happened so quick. From the day of GP referral to the day of being discharged post-op last week was 4.5 months, I'm really grateful. We're now actually on holiday in France, and I've also been back on my (electric!) bike, which was great! I can understand your dilemma; on the one hand things don't seem that bad and you think you can manage. But then some days things seem worse and you think you're better off going ahead and starting the ball rolling. I'm the type of person to "soldier on", but one thing my GP said when I first went to see him, was not to carry on too long, as by the time an operation was necessary, I may not be fit enough to have surgery; so I took that on board.
@DEBSC I'm pleased that the last week wasn't as difficult travel-wise; you've now got another week over with; best of luck for next week.
@milliehull You're very patient, I'm impressed! But perhaps the "roolz" don't allow you to lose the odd visitor! Know what you mean about working with the general public - I too worked in the NHS for many years and many's the time I had to bite my tongue!
Enjoyed looking at the various photos posted again @nelliethehooker and @Wherenext

I haven't posted much lately for various reasons but have been reading this thread regularly.
Today has been a red letter day in the moulesy household (well 50% of it anyway) because after 45 years of waiting my beloved Hull Kingston Rovers have finally emulated the 1980 boys by winning the rugby league challenge cup. But boy, did they make hard work of it and they only got their noses in front in the dying minutes! Not good for my blood pressure but a real "I was there" event.
Currently sat on a National Express coach heading back to Wiltshire - seem to be the only Robins fan on board!) tired but very, very happy!

Left Moffat this morning after an overnight deluge (rain). Arrived at Oban this afternoon after a 4 1/2 hour drive. I decided to take the route via Sterling and was very straight forward. Wonderful scenery on the way. Sunny at the moment but rain forecast for the next few days, at least 🙁Already been bitten by midges, blummin’ things 😐 The good news is that I think I can get back on my feet and walk a bit, gout seems like it’s clearing up. Site is nice and around three quarters full I would estimate. There’s a wall all the way round so I’m guessing it used to be a kitchen garden, back in the day.

-
@Freddy55 That'll be the C&CC site. As I’ve posted several times, it's a haven for midges due to being in an old walled garden. North Ledaig, if you pitch in the open, is virtually free of the beasties. That’s why we only went to the C&CC site once. 🦟😎

Glad to read that your gout seems to be clearing up @Freddy55 and that you havevarrived at the Oban site. We were there about 4 weeks ago, before the midges arrived, sited on the second pitch in on the right hand side from the entrance.
Good to hear that were at the final @moulesy, to see your team's victory and like @Wherenext I too did wonder if you were when I read the match report.
Glad you have made it through your second week of treatment, @DEBSC fingers crossed that all goes well for the remainder of it. Also please to read that you have been discharged by your consultant @InaD and hope you thoroughly enjoy your holiday in France.
@richardandros have a safe journey down to Broadway and onto Devon. Hope the heavy rain has passed through before you set off.
@Bakers2 and @milliehull just to cheer you up we too have had some heavy rain showers today but thankfully they didn't arrive until we had returned to the site following our day out, and it would appear that they have passed over now.
We drove the short distance up to Crail where we took a walk along a bit of the coastal path before heading onto Kingsbarns for lunch and another walk past the golf course. We were surprised to see that each of the golfers on the course were accompanied by their own caddie, but then spotted a pair of helicopters by the clubhouse so guessed they were a select group being taken round the course.

”As I’ve posted several times, it's a haven for midges due to being in an old walled garden.”
I must have missed it 🙄 Ah well, we’re here now, just 3 nights. Next stop Skye.
@nelliethehooker , thanks. My BiL and his wife are on that pitch 🙂
Thanks @milliehull 👍

@InaD so pleased to hear that you are doing so brilliantly. Hope you have a wonderful holiday in France. I’ve taken on board your comments and I will give it some serious thought, thank you.
@nelliethehooker amazing Poppy pictures, how beautiful.

@moulesy nice to hear from you, hope things are ok👍 Recoveries for others sound like they are progressing as well, so good news.
@wherenext (sorry, it’s not working again), I think we only paid a £1 to get to Lighthouse, but it was Winter, and we only had a day on the island.Wedding plans are happening here as well, outfits getting finalised. Posh do at an old Priory. Wedding in the old church in Tickhill.

Excellent day today took my classic Mercedes down to the classic car show at Thirlestane Castle in the borders it’s a 2 hour drive each way but a great show go to it every year lots of great cars. Didn’t manage to get the roof down but the rain stayed off for the day. Back home now and car back in it’s garage another show to go to at the end of the month. Lovely location with a brilliant castle over looking the grounds

Looks as if you have been busy with the wedding preparations @Takethedogalong hope you all have a lovely day.
Some fine looking vehicles there at the show @Francis especially yours. It certainly is a grand place for the show. Hope you tried one of Tunnocks Marshmallows.
We had another fine day, with hazy sunshine. We visited Kellie Castle, with a walk around the grounds and then the garden before taking in the house tour. Met up with my second cousin and her husband for a light lunch in the castle's cafe. They live in Houston, Texas but spend half the year over here in their static caravan during our summer to escape the Texas heat.
Castle and Garden.
Any one for rhubarb?

Gunnera @nelliethehooker 🤣 Now classed as invasive so you can no longer buy plants. There are some magnificent stands of it in gardens throughout the UK. I used to have some in our garden until it got ideas beyond its location🥴 Trebah has the biggest, thickest I have ever seen, although Logan is like Jurassic Park.
Great car photos @Francis We are off to a classic car show next weekend, although only visiting.

Hi @Freddy55. That's the way we usually go from Glencoe up to the to the port at Uig (on Skye), when we go to Lewis with Harris.... however, we don't usually tow when we go to the Outer Hebrides, so never really taken notice from that perspective. Off hand, I can't recall any particular problems other than a few hills especially on the A87. Don't know about the journey from Oban to the junction with the A82....not travelled that way. (I would have said to avoid the bit around Loch Lomond.... but you're not going that way.....)
