What are you all up to

We live in North Wales RK! I'd like to be able to get a bit warmer please!😂
Busy day. OH decided that we should get straight out of bed and do some gardening while we still had the energy. Didn't even have time for a shave or shower, which came immediately after we finished you'll be glad to hear. 2 hours is at the maximum I can do. OH and her mother were then dropped off about a mile away and walked home along quiet back lanes. MiL said it felt like being on holiday as the fields are awash with wildflowers and Swallows are overhead.
Collected some tiles to replace the carpet in the Van, so that's tomorrows job with OH doing any cutting.

I dont think we have ever been to Biddulph Grange.
@milliehull - One word of warning. The Tearoom in Camellia House can only be accessed by about 6 steps, not by ramp. We went last year and made enquiries about a ramp as we thought MiL would enjoy the garden. We were told that as its a listed building they can't get permission to instal a ramp, even a moveable one! The guide blamed it on the local building officer at the council.
However we also visited Beningbrough Hall in Yorkshire with MiL. That building is also listed and they have a Lift! so that access can be gained to the upper floors of the hall which we all actually used.
So if stairs are a problem then skip Biddulph or take a flask.

@Wherenext Will try and send some warmer weather your way,no gardening here though just a tad to hot so will do a bit next week when cooler.
Just been out to shut the greenhouse greenhouse and noticed there are some light clouds about so perhaps we are getting a change from this heat.
@DEBSC Glad you have got through the first week of your treatment even though a bit of a rush today and now have a rest this weekend and take care for the rest of your treatment.

@DEBSC I am so sorry I think we were part of your traffic jam around Barnstable as we left the cottage around 9 am. The M5 was gridlocked as well partly due to a couple of collisions. Didnt look like there were any injuries thankfully. Stopped once at Gloucester services and got home about 5.30. DIL did the driving and did so well. I have since done the unpacking and one load of washing. Sorry you had such a difficult day but at least you have the weekend off and week one is over and done with. Rest and take care

@milliehull nice to read that you have got home with enough time to do some washing, considering the state of the traffic!
That was quite a journey today, @DEBSC you will certainly be glad that you do not have to do it again over the weekend. At least it is one week less ahead now. Take care.
Have a good weekend away @Francis, at least it has started off well with regards to the weather.
@Bakers2 I blame you for the change in weather :) We have had periods of rain with some quite heavy showers, throughout the day. We drove across to Balgavies Loch for a walk and to see the resident Ospreys. Thankfully the rain held off while we were on the most exposed part of the circuit of the Loch, and we could see the female Osprey on the nest. Below is a view across to its location (indicated) from the hide, and another from the eastern end of the loch.

The trouble with the weather at the moment it that it seems so variable. A nice sunny day here at home but in the shade it's been quite cool.... I started with a pullover on top of a tee shirt and it's been between pullover on/ pullover off all day!!
Glad to hear things are going OK @DEBSC and that other are having a good time away. Stay safe on the roads folks...

@DSB There was maintenance last night..... It seems my @ are intermittent
@nelliethehooker I'm so sorry please forgive me. May your days be warm dry and sunny from now on.
@DEBSC a long exhausting day for you. Try to relax and rest over the weekend. Am I recalling correctly that you're staying more local to the hospital next week?
I'm glad all those travelling to or from home have done so safely.
Sadly Our garden help didn't come today as he's been poorly all week 🥲. So my plants remain in pots. My back has been easier today, I could do my own footwear 😂. As desperate as I am to get them planted, I keep giving myself a stern talking to about not rushing things! 3rd dose of the shockwave treatment tomorrow.

@milliehull no need for apologies glad that you had a nice holiday and a safe journey home. …Oh go on then I probably did say flipping holidaymakers when we were sat in the traffic.😆sorry.
@Bakers2 yes we have a caravan booked about 30 mins from the hospital from Monday to Friday next week. Hope your treatment isn’t too painful tomorrow.0 -
Arrived at Pocklington earlier today. Took us well over 3 hours due to heavy traffic, particularly the M62 and A1(M). Not the most picturesque of sites, but it’s clean and tidy with everything we need. I chose it specifically for its location. We have 3 nights here before moving on to Windermere. The plan is to visit Burnby Hall gardens in the next couple of days, which is just down the road. A fly in the ointment is that I’m having an attack of gout, which precludes any walking 🙁 Upside, the weather looks pretty good for the next few days 🙂 Have a good weekend everyone 👍

@Freddy55 I hope your gout doesn’t prevent you from visiting Burnby Hall. We live quite locally and it’s a lovely place, especially now as I would imagine many of the water lilies will be out (we haven’t been for a few weeks). If you haven’t been before the cafe is quite good too, not always that quick but good when it arrives! Take care and hope things improve soon.
@DEBSC thinking of you and hoping next week will be easier for you with less travelling.
@Bakers2 how frustrating for you with your foot and back, it never rains but it pours as the saying goes. I hope things improve soon for you too. @milliehull good to hear you are home safe and hope you enjoyed your Devon break - even if you do cause issues for locals!🤭😉We are getting ready to do our dog sitting from next weekend while our family are away for a couple of weeks. Barney is a sweet dog, mostly, he is just a barker and pretty lively, he does tire us out!

Thanks @heddlo , most kind. Burnby Hall gardens was the reason I chose this location, I think I saw it on tv (Gardeners World?) and it looked very good. I suppose over the last couple of years I’ve had 3 or 4 bouts of gout, it normally lasts a couple of days. Never had it this bad before though, so it’s fingers crossed 🤞
Incidentally, I haven’t seen @DavidKlyne for quite a while, can anyone shed any light?

catching up again here, some nice tours going on, interesting places being visited. Hope the gout goes away @Freddy55. Enjoy East Yorks, always nice. @DEBSC I hope things are going well, the travel sounds awful, so a good idea to stay closer. The M5 is actually closed most of today due to a dreadful accident, so it will be even worse on the roads in the SW.
It’s simmering to be a really hot day here today, we are walking into town and having a Greek lunch with some friends, then onto a live gig at a local pub. Back mid afternoon, and hopefully it will be hot enough for us to have a dip in pool.
@milliehull from memory, Biddulph Grange has a lot of climbing, and the best parts of the garden are via rockery type paths, lots of uneven surfaces and differing pathway surfaces, although there might be an easier circuit around the lake.🤔
@Bakers2 hope the feet continue to improve.

nice sunny morning here in Ayrshire but quite windy where we are pitched. Looking at the forecast we are due rain later today so not sure what we will end up doing.
I know the M5 gets a really bad reputation but we have used it many many times on our way down to Devon and never had much of an issue and it’s usually July we are down that way we must have just been lucky. Funny enough this summer will be the first year for a while we haven’t ventured down that way as we are going down the other side of the country to Norfolk so will be using A1-M1

We’ve too much on to get away. As soon as we got our silage in the slurry tanker was out - the showers, sunny spells and good organic input will hopefully mean we get a decent 2nd cut.
Work is continuing on our new dairy project, though there’s at least a month to go yet. A few details are on our website and Instagram.0 -
Not had the '@tag' problem at all until yeasterday..... even tbroughout that time when several were having problems. All seems well now @Bakers2.
Just been up to tbe caravan storeage to pop some items back in the 'van. A visit to Costa on the way back.... now sitting in the car writing this whilst Carol has popped in to HomeBargains. 🙂 then it's Curry's to buy a new landline phone - our current phone stopped working a week ago..... not that we use it that much, but tbe MIL will only ring us on the land line... 🤔 otherwise, we'd probably have it taken out.
Glad tbe dairy is coming on well @Goldie146 .
Have a good Saturday, everyone.

@DEBSC Not been on here for a bit, so doing a bit of catching up; I'm really pleased for you that the first week of the treatment is now behind you. Yesterday sounds very tiring, thank goodness it was the final day of the week, at least you had the weekend to look forward to. All the best for next week, and not having to do the driving from home each day should make it more bearable.
@Bakers2 Hope yesterday's treatment went well and you start feeling the benefit before long and hope your backpain starts to ease off as well. If it's not one thing it's another........
Nice to read of the various trips made by others on here, and I always enjoy seeing any accompanying photos, thanks for posting.
I haven't been on here for some days, but also noticed, like others, that @DavidKlyne doesn't appear to have posted for a while now, I hope everything is ok with him and Margaret.

We have had a really nice, different day. The Greek food was absolutely delicious, the live music festival was a good afternoon, and we have just enjoyed our first swim in the pool asit has been a hot sunny day here, if a tad breezy. Just going to catch up with Giro now….🚴♂️🚴♂️🚴♂️

Well it was merely warm over this way and overcast for large portions of the day. A heavy shower about 30 minutes ago, so it looks like an east/west split.
We postponed the tile cutting as we need a new blade. Probably leave the job until we get back from a short trip midweek. Headed instead to our nearest Market town, Mold, for their usual Saturday market. An excellent one as markets go with a lot of variety in stalls. The ladies always enjoy it as they start at the French Bakery stall, run by a true French baker. OH swears the pastries and bread are as good as when we bought them in France. Of course, they're off limits for me now. MiL in keeping with her nature bought clothes (again).😂 Still, she enjoyed the stroll and always finds someone to talk to, so there was the morning gone. I had to go in to collect my new prescription. Think I got the short end of the stick.
Good to hear you and OH had some quality downtime @Takethedogalong.

Good to read others news. @Freddy55 hope the weather stays fine for your visit to Burnby Hall. Enjoy the rest of your stay
@Francis and that the weather clears up.
Sound like a very busy, interesting and enjoyable afternoon tda (can't make your @ work!!).
The work on your new dairy appears to be going well @Goldie146 and that it is soon in full operation.
@Bakers2 you have no need to apologies, we have had more rain but even more sunshine and the chill wind has gone for the time being. Hope all your aches and pains grow less by the day.

After more rain through the night it was dry for this morning's walk unlike yesterday when I got caught out and got rather "damp!" We visited House of Duns for a couple of walks, the first one along by the stream and the second one through the House's garden. Came across a very unusual memorial too.
"Big Foot?" William Henry Kennedy-Erskine (1828-1870) 18th of Dun.
There is one of a line of 14 very impressive Redwoods behind the house
A view up the narrow Glen, part of the woodland walk.

jHome after a good weekend at The Ranch AS site in Maybole excellent as always site quite busy considering the weather wasn’t great. Didn’t do much yesterday just took a drive in to Ayr later in the afternoon for a walk around but apart from that just relaxed at the van. Easy 35 min tow home today gave the van a clean when we got back as it hadn’t been done since before our trip down to Yorkshire in April.
Good to read all the news and see the lovey pics especially @milliehull as we love Devon it’s our favourite area for taking the van

We were able to get packed up and away in the dry, ran through a heavy rain shower but it was dry when we arrived at the site, a CS that is new to us. It has showered on and off during the afternoon but we hsve not got wet. This is one of the best 5 van sites we have ever stopped on, with large HS pitches, grand view, good information room complete with a drying room, a wood adjacent with 1.5 mls of cut paths and very peaceful, apart from the call of the resident peacocks.
ThIs is the sight that greeted us when we arrived.
When out for my afternoon walk I came across this, sited next to a cottage in deep grass and surrounded by agricultural land. It appears to be a VARGA 2150A KACHINA, built in 1980 & registered in Mar 2018 and it is De-registered and withdrawn from use.
@Francis pleased to read that you were able to get your van cleaned after your enjoyable few days away.

A quiet day at home and, it seems, on here as well. Got the Van ready for a 3 night outing from tomorrow, did some food shopping for us and MiL and that was it.
Looks like we'll be having some mixed weather but it might be the only chance we have to get away this month apart from using it to take MiL away to a cottage in a fortnight.

Hope it stays fine for your trip away, @Wherenext and you have an enjoyable stay. When does The Van go in for its habitation check.
We had another dry day with periods of sunshine and a stiff breeze, just perfect for getting the washing dry outside. We went into Forfar later in the morning and had a walk along by the Loch, past the Club site which appeared about 1/3rd full of units and a couple of tents. After lunch more shopping done before heading back to the side and my afternoon walk, this time to view the church at Fern, but unfortunately it was all locked up. It was built in 1883 but is sited on a Medieval burial ground.

Next week @nelliethehooker. Nice, different Church.

Nothing much to report as I’ve been stuck in the van for the last couple of days, still suffering with gout. We were supposed to leave for Windermere this morning, but have had to stay here for another day. The reason for staying here was to visit Burnby Hall gardens, which hasn’t happened 🙁 Anyway, the gout seems to be easing now, so most likely will be settling off for Windermere tomorrow 🤞

In answer to the question posed by this thread - I have spent the last few days looking for………………………………Pilchards!!!! Where have they all gone???????
Just to explain my apparent obsession with Pilchards - they're for Meg - not that's she's spoilt or anything. She virtually lives on oily fish and that's why I think that, at nearly 12 years old, she is still able to bound about like a little puppy😀 Her main kibble is salmon and potato and, every lunchtime, she has half a pilchard (in tomato sauce, of course). I'm convinced that's what keeps her joints supple and our vet is inclined to agree with me.
However - they seem to have disappeared. All the supermarkets are suddenly out of stock - including some of the 'stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap' variety. After much searching, I've finally managed to get some on-line - but at an extortionate price (£3.50 per can!)
Just can't understand what's suddenly happened!
