I think it was designed to be cringeworthy, even thenwink

We have also got a new breadmaker which has been a voyage of discovery!!! Our Panasonic gave up the ghost and I didn't think it would survive me taking it apart a second time. We would have liked another Panasonic but they seem to be short of stock everywhere or only the most expensive available. Having read the reviews we decided on a Russell Hobbs breadmaker, very reasonably priced at £64.50 in Argos. The first loaf was a complete failure. The second and third were a bit better but not as good as the Panasonic. Margaret was all for sending it back but I persuaded her to persevere and after about half a dozen attempts we are getting a pretty good loaf. The ingredient list is greater than required by the Panasonic. You also have to watch the volumes, especially salt. I think we would have been happier with a Panasonic but given the price we paid the RH is not doing too bad once we got used to it.

It might be touch and go for our BM this weekend. It’s thrown out two duds, although in fairness only a couple of those packet all in one mixes, and a couple of days beyond best before dates, so in fairness I am reasonably confident it will be ok with me making something from ingredients. Everything appears to be working fine, paddle rotates, certainly heats up, so fingers crossed. I know it’s over 18 years old, so it owes us little. We used to take it away occasionally, set it up in awning at Marazion, folks used to sniff as they went past in morning😁

Our Prima was over 18yrs old, getting a bit unreliable and then a metal part broke off and although OH offered a fix I didn't fancy finding the part in the middle of a loaf.

I tried to find another breadmaker, lots on offer till you get to the buying bit and they're out of stock. I found the cheaper (ha ha) small Panasonic, not due in till late November via Amazon, then they brought it forward when stock arrived.

Not wishing to be a bread bore but the second attempt brought good results (read instructions more carefully!!) The only thing is the smaller loaves, the Prima produced a nice large one which I cut in half and froze.) Looking forward to using it now, well stocked up with flour, off we go....smile

Piano tuner coming here this morning, must scurry round and tidy up, remove things and clean. Unbelievable that it's the piano tuner who's doing the equivalent of first footing as it's only been the family steeping inside previously. I'm hoping the boiler service brings the next visitor as it's well over a year.

The only failure I had with our Panasonic was when I forgot to fit the paddle, after taking it out to wash.

I also used the Panasonic recipe in our old breadmaker that we had given to DD and it gave a much better loaf than following its own recipes.  I use very slightly less salt than the recipe, which works for me.

Just made a sourdough loaf......smells delicious!

Strange times indeed brue. Only Mum and Sister into our house since March, other than surveyor for new boiler. Fitting is imminent, we are just wrangling over dates due to a couple of hospital visits we don’t want to miss. OH is busy in cellars, he’s fitting a couple of beams that need replacing, then they can get in to do underfloor insulation, which is part of Grant work. I am still pinching myself about this, we don’t get any benefits or state pension, yet have accessed this without any bother. We had expected to spend around £3-4k, so it’s a wonderful early Christmas bonus. I think we are going to avoid seeing Mum and Sis for a couple of weeks after it’s fitted and all work done, to stop any risk to Mum. They are taking lots of precautions, but you just can’t be too careful at the moment.

edit: I can almost smell the loaf here K!😁 Pleased to hear little Callum was ok, and everyone else.

I can testify to the niceness of Kj bread, we've had the privilege of tasting itsmile

I've never made bread, my sister does both by hand and in a bread maker. I must admit I wasn't aware that you could get failures, I thought you just put the ingredients in and that was that.embarassed

Lovely day today sun out, bits of clouds but still nice. Lazy start to the day then we did the washing as its so nice. Most of it dry now. Off out shortly for a nice walk along the prom.

Socially distanced morning from the piano tuner but not the noise! laughing

Sunny day but getting colder, have got some plants and bulbs to put in the garden but can't quite summon up the will to do it...OH keeps pointing out the rose sitting forlornly in a bucket!

Nice to be by the sea TG. Might try and get a glimpse of the cruise ships in Weymouth Bay next week, don't know why really but  people keep asking us if we've seen them?! wink

Lovely morning so we walked, a bit further than we intended but all good for fitness levels.

After lunch we went to pick up our Click and Collect from our local Tesco. What a palaver. Their van broke down. Nobody told us until 20 minutes before the end of our allotted time (by email) by which time we had found out from customer services, Had to drive another8 miles to their big store where we had to collect it from inside the store, which negated the reason for a C&C.😡 Not happy bunnies. I hope the Gov don't give Tesco's the Track and Trace contract.smile

Yeast was why mine failed I suspect. It’s one of the few things that doesn’t work properly beyond “best before”. It’s critical as well what order you put things into a bread maker. The general idea is to keep the yeast away from moisture (water, milk) at first, otherwise it starts to react.

Gardening day for me. The big Autumn clear up has commenced. I shall be doing a lot, but getting Mum’s gardeners in to take a metre off a long hedge. Next door neighbours up for it, we are going Dutch on the hedge, as we paid for the big tree prune in Spring. They are having a couple of Beech trees reduced, so more wood and clippings coming our way🤩

Well we got away decided against Yorkshire in the end so came across to Berwick for a few days instead. Stayed last night at Strathclyde Park club site. Journey over here today turned in to a bit of a nightmare ended up delayed by about an hour and a half in the M8 for a crash and then a breakdown on the Edinburgh bypass. Still we made it so here for a few days to relax and I’m planning on doing a bit of cycling. Moving up to North Berwick next week for a few days there.

Wherenext are you sure Tesco haven't already got the track and trace contract?

Managing to get delivery slots still, book mine every 2 weeks, we get priority choice, fixed hour slot or flexi slot available. Charge is now £4.50 for 1st 2 and slightly cheaper for flexi slot. No bag or tray liner option chosen for last couple of delivery's have to have bags by the door.

I complained about items, roast beef slices, which I went to use the day after delivery only to find they were use by the date of delivery. It wasn't the money but the inconvenience of not having sandwich filling. Money refunded and £5 online voucher by way of apology but doesn't help with sandwich filling 😡

Whizzed into town, quite busy lots of folks with filled bags - starting Christmas shop early?? Grabbed couple of cards and a new vegetable peeler, ours broke yesterday. But as I was going in for my boot fitting it was timely.

Boots fitted, new walking socks and wax for said boots purchased. All as socially distanced as possible - great service and I learnt several new ways of lacing them. Very empty wallet, but £100 less the the first figure I thought the guy on the till said 😱😱🤣🤣🤣. Muffled through his mask - no lip reading and the clear screen. Naturally of the three pairs suggested a couple of days ago the best fit were the most expensive! Hanwag Alta bunion if anyone is interested. Interestingly it was the foot without the bunion which was harder to get laced comfortably. Told him I'm always that awkward customer 😉. Now need to wear them indoors for a week or so then start short walks apparently. Looks like a damp left foot for a bit longer then..........

Son is coming this evening to beat the midnight deadline, not playing golf with mates from here in Kent Sunday and Monday - he had already changed to a single room rather than shared a couple of weeks back. The others are being  responsible and not travelling to lower rated area for pleasure.

We had arranged a meet up with son and DIL for OH birthday in a couple of weeks, so fingers crossed we can see them both then.

Been dry here all day - so far, maybe we can get the top off the grass tomorrow? It had its treatment, weed and feed, last week and looks lush and green but boy does it make it grow!

Right off to prepare dinner for the three of us, casserole bubbling away nicely as one never knows if son's finish will be as contracted, plus traffic on M11 etc.

    Stay safe folks.

Bakers2 So glad that you are going to see your son.  Very sensible of him to come this evening and beat the deadline. Also well done to his mates for being sensible. I wish everyone was. I hope you manage to get to your son and Dil's for you OH's birthday.  I am unclear as to the rules - although you can't mix households in your area are you allowed to travel to another area where mixing of households is allowed?  I do hope so.

Brue You should try listening to an organ being tuned surprised. They have to do it fairly regularly in the Cathedral. It is not the happiest of days!

Moulesy Lovely pictures.  Enjoy. You lucky things.

Ha.......I have been adding the odd bag of flour to my regular delivery for months now. All stored in an air tight container, along with lots of dried yeast.

Freezer arrived this morning, still not unwrapped it yet, it’s in garage awaiting attention. Managed a good three hours in garden today, tackling a holly hedge, nasty little beast. We have date for our boiler swop as well, end of month, so another week to finish off some tasks.

    Tired tonight......😴

Lovely view, M. Which road did you have to navigate? As you will no doubt know we're still up in N.East Scotland so won't be able to partake of a pub lunch with you all at the Black Bull this time, unfortunately.frown Hope your trip goes well.

Good to hear that your son is staying with you this weekend, B2, and hope that you are able to get to your OH's birthday meet up with son and DIL.

WN, Glad that you were eventually able to get your C&C. You won't be on a starvation diet this weekend now.

Dull but thankfully dry day here. Parked down at Cruden Bay and walked up to the ruin of New Slaines Castle, the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Castle Dracula, from the novel he started while staying at The Kilmarnock Hotel in the village. Then walked down to Port Errol harbour before lunch, which we had up near Slaines Lodge. Walked to view the cave and natural arch through the stack of Dunbuy, similar to the Bow Fiddle Rock at Buckie before going on to Bullard of Buchan to see another natural arch.

Thanks for your kind comments re son and his mates cancelling their golf and travelling out of area. They're good lads and I'm proud of them all 😇.

Son let Dora out for call of nature, smallish hedgehog frozen on the border edge, Dora very interested. Checked its weight about 350g, noticed all food in hedgehog house eaten but slimey poo in the house. Hedgehog now in basket with food and water in the shed for the night to see if it's this one with the runny bottom. It also has a large tick on it.

    Hever a dull moment here!

Good to read of others news and not at all envious if certain folks photos...........

    Stay safe.

Morning all, anyone know of a way of enticing out a hiding hedgehog? Thought not other than the food trick 🤣.

Got up this morning went to said basket in shed, it had escaped, we used string to loosely, I learnt this morning!, tie the opening side, buckle straps missing. Did a hedgehog hunt with torch in nooks and crannies with dog, no sign except calling cards, it isn't the hedgehog with a runny bottom ! Shed door now wide open with a ramp to aid it's exit. Meanwhile there is another smallish hedgehog in the hedgehog house nicely snuggled in - or it was until I turfed out some hay 😱, didn't think it would be Houdini as it would have to have got itself VERY FLAT, confirmed by lack of tick.

Grey here, rather moist underfoot on the grass walk.

    Enjoy your day folks

    Good afternoon all,

sorry if it’s inappropriate to ask on here but I don’t know how else to get the answer.  The email from the Club this morning ref England mentions ‘medium’ and ‘very high’ areas, we’re in a ‘high’ area and don’t understand what we’re allowed to do regarding touring?

Brue, that is just perfect I really appreciate your help.  I know opinion is very divided on wether we should travel or not but amongst other things I’m desperate to see the sea, and have a walk in the sea air, but we keep to ourselves and if we go somewhere that looks too busy we leave.
