Thanks for posting the photos of Tarn Hows Moulesy, one of my most favourite places.Must be beautiful with the trees all changing colour. Made up just a little for us not being able to get there this year. We always stay at Near Sawrey, next to Beatrice Potters home.

Nice to hear from you Helen and so glad you had a good time in N. Yorks. One of our favourite areas. We have a cottage booked in Staithes next July for a holiday with our N. Ireland family so we have fingers firmly crossed for that. Son rang last night and they are in full lockdown again over there.

Glad to hear your breadmaker is working well brue. I am afraid ours is lurking in the back of a cupboard as we dont eat a lot of bread these days.

Lovely photos of Tarn Hows Moulesy. Beautiful reflections.

Delighted to hear that your first ' Solo Flight ' was an interesting or even Memorable one, Millieh smile.

Indeed I saw a  whole batch of short letters in the Sunday Scandal on the problems aged and/or ailing folks are having  with the lack of toilets available in so many shops / bars and even the Public Toilets being locked as well. Even the letter telling me to report to the surgery for my influenza jab had the same " No Loos Available " warning.  At least those of us with MH or Campervan transport may well have our own facilitieslaughing

Good to hear from all that have posted today.

Pleased that you first solo guided tour went well, millie, even with the added but of entertainment.

Smashing photos, M, such a great place to visit.

Glad to hear that you had a good time up in Yorkshire, even if it was rather wet under foot, Helen. Where did you stay this time?

Sorry to hear about your sister, Brian. Hope that she's soon able to get home and that her daughter can sort out recycling correspondence.

Have a safe trip back north, TG. The two weeks have gone quickly and you've managed to cover a fair amount of ground.

Best get the wooly hat out, WM, you don't want to be catching a head cold, now that you've had your hair cut.

We had an easy enough to down to Banchory, apart from missing the turnoff for the new Aberdeen bypassembarassed Fortunately there's a roundabout less than a mile further on towards the city, so we did a quick about turn and were soon on the right road. The CL is full, which make a change as most up to now have had plenty of empty pitches, although there were not every many LVs on the road. It has been sunny for most of the day too, and is a fair bit warmer here than at the coast.

Back home after five days at Minehead. Had a three mile crawl through Winterbourne Stoke towards Stonehenge. Don't normally travel on a Saturday and hadn't expected such a clog up at this time of year. Cut down the Devizes road through Salisbury. Should have gone via Wilton and would have missed it all. yell

The autumn colours this year seem particularly vivid. Reminds me of last year when we were in New England and Canada at this time.

The Cathedral made the decision a couple of weeks ago that we should have the loos open for visitors.  They are accessed through a back door into the cloisters.  It seems that some of the (or one of the) clergy who access their homes in the precincts via the back door and the cloisters hadn't taken this information on board and when leaving the Cathedral locked the door behind them.  I hope words have been had!

Good job we stocked up with library books this morning bearing in mind the lockdown news from Wales.

Looking at the exemptions it would appear that we are still good to go for Mrs WN's revised, revised, revised (no I don't have a stammer) visit to the dentist on the 2nd.November as we're treating it as Medical Treatment. Same with my flu jab this Saturday. Had to rearrange our visit to the caravan service people to fix a couple of minor points. Just rang them and they have managed to fit us in for beginning of December and that was only because someone cancelled that one this morning, otherwise it would have been January.

I don't think this is going to be the last inconvenience we will see this side of a vaccine.

Good drive up to west Yorkshire, Upper Denby to be exact. We've got the place to ourselves.

It took us just short of 5 hours to do the trip that's including stopping for lunch. Decent dry weather for the journey, we even sunshine for some of it.

Will pop along to see our youngest and his family after 6pm, as they are working. Cant go in their house so it will be a short visit.

Glad you had a good journey to Banchory NTH

Just heard the news WN, hope it has the desired result for you all in as short a time as hoped. Not sure what is going to happen back home yet.

I do wonder TG if we are going to get to the stage of having to quarantine if we return from a visit to England.smile Or maybe people in England in a Tier 3 area can travel to a lower tier but must quarantine for a set period? It's all rather disjointed.

Hope you enjoy the distanced visit tonight.

I see your 1st minister has announced a lockdown WN, it’s a pity the 3 nations aren’t in tandem🤷🏻‍♂️, after the 2 weeks you could have incomers paddling around reinfecting🙁. Politicians eh?, can’t kill em, can’t cryogenically freeze em. . .pity☹️

Heavy rain was forecast for today so we decided on a shorter walk in the morning before coming back to the cottage for lunch. We drove to Elterwater and walked along to Skelwith Bridge. Great views again with mist/cloud shrouding the top of Black Fell and Skelwith Force was quite strong in spite of the recent dry weather.  Then round to Loughrigg Tarn where we stopped off for coffee under the watchful eye of these two locals. Surprisingly neither of the dogs were bothered by them.  smile

As it turned out the rain didn't materialise till much later so I strolled down to the lake with Ralph in the afternoon while the ladies stayed in for a well deserved snooze! 😪

Out this evening for a belated birthday dinner for Mrs M at the Wilson's Arms in Torver (not sure if you know it, nellie) - highly recommended for anyone staying at Park Coppice, though very busy when we left - restaurant was full so make sure you book.

More rain forecast for tomorrow but we'll wait and see.

I agree Rocky but to be honest the infection rates in some places in Wales are just as bad but I think all most people are asking for is some joined up thinking, planning and co-operation between the separate parts of the UK, not forgetting Northern Ireland, where poor Millie is affected by their decisions. In the meantime our regime won't change much. Have to juggle a few appointments but there are worse things.

Take care of yourself and loved ones.

There’s the rub WN, they live their lives intermingled with ours then up crops a rampant pandemic & the idyll is no longer🤷🏻‍♂️. I’m just hoping Santa gets a vaccine sorted because I’d hate him to get unwell😢

Grand photos again, M. Hope that the weather isn't as bad as forecast for you tomorrow. I know the pub, but have only had a drink in there well before it has been done up. Will keep it in mind for a future visit.

Glad to hear that you've fixed up the visit for the van to be sorted, WN. Fingers crossed that there isn't a further extension of the lockdown into December. Pleased that your OH has finally got her visit to the dentist finally arranged. We were able to book an appointment for each of us at our dentist on our return home from this trip.

TG, hope that your visit to see your son went well this evening. Is it Holly Tree Cottage your stopping on tonight? Have a safe trip up to Berwick tomorrow.

More rain through the night but, although it's been grey and cloudy all day it stayed dry. Drove down into Banchory and walked along the Deeside Way as far as the present terminus of the Deeside Railway. After lunch went up to Scolty Woods and did one of the waymarked trails. Didn't bother heading up to the tower as it was threatening rain and didn't want I get caught out in the open up there, and we've done the walk a couple of times, at least, in the past. Rain finally arrived this evening.

By initiating a lock down will automatically trigger further support.  I believe that is all he has requested and will receive from the UK Government.

Had a good drive up from Upper Denby,  yes NTH Holly Tree Cottage.

Weather was windy and heavy rain last night but this morning was nice and dry. Got even better on the drive up and we've had a good bit of sun here late afternoon.

We had a nice visit with the family, not that we were able to go inside. Our DIL works as a dental nurse in a Sheffield hospital so was very keen to keep us at a distance. Part of her journey to work is on public transport so she has lots of possible exposure.

Don't think we will see the skies tonight as its getting cloudy so no meteor shower for us.

Glad you made it home TG.

Trying to arrange matters before next week's lockdown. Have someone coming tomorrow to firm up the window order. Mrs WN managed to rearrange MiL hair appointment for tomorrow, I think more to spare me than anything else.smile

Very sad news today.frown Our coffee filter machine gave up the ghost after a mere 16 years of thrice daily service. Can't even ask for refund as we bought it at BHS. Picking up replacement from Argos tomorrow when we have to take someone for haircut. Plus have to get to recycling centre (remember when they were called Tips?) as they'll be closed next week. Hope I get those drop offs the right way around.

A lot to do WN, hope the restrictions go smoothly for everyone, not a good time for the uk just now.

Our lawn mower conked out at the weekend, part way through a cut. OH managed to get our old ride on going but he always hits his head on the tree branches which is why he likes the self propelled mower. It's easy to dodge the overhead obstructions! Couldn't get any spare parts to mend it so he made a bid on ebay and goes to collect the new secondhand one tomorrow...fingers crossed it's ok, cash on collection.

Pleased you saw the family TammyG, it makes a difference even if it's at a distance.

Got some bulbs planted in pots today...noticed one lot needed planting at a depth of 50cm!! Never heard that before (some alliums) OH not pleased as I've delegated the task....🌱🌱

Its been a busy couple of days at work, playing catch up as usual after a week off.

Today though we found time to empty, clean and winterise the caravan, we usually use it during the winter months but have decided that as the coronavirus situation isn't looking good we would pack it away for now.  cry

Glad you made it home safely Tammygirl, and pleased you managed to see family.  As Manchester has now been put into the top tier it could be a while before we see our youngest son.undecided

Nellie, we stayed at the clubs north Yorkshire moors site, we like the site and with the vat reduction cheaper than some CL'S.

Thanks WN but not quite home yet, overnighting at Berwick that way we get home midday rather than tea time. It gives us time to unload in daylight and turn the house heating up so its nice and cosy for when we are ready to settle down. wink

TTDA, yes it was nice to see them even if it was a brief visit. No hugs though frown but the kids got rock and candy floss so were more than happylaughing they are on half term next week, would have been nice if they could have come up for a few days, our son certainly could do with a break away. As he's working from home he hasn't taken any leave this year.

Finally retrieved our Smart car at 17.45 on Friday.  Half hearted apology, but no explanation, for all the delays.  No shortage of staff when we were there, at least 7 people customer-facing in the dealership, parking area packed, difficult to find a spot.

Totally different experience at the VW place we had the brakes fixed at. They initially said 2 days needed, dropped off car at 9am yesterday and it was ready by 16.30.  Very helpful staff, kept us informed on progress. They can also service the Smart as they have the Mercedes software etc, so they will be servicing both our vehicles next year.

Meantime we have been keeping busy looking after Callum and getting DD's place ready for the arrival of the builders who are renovating a bedroom, a bathroom, and putting a new shower and toilet in another bathroom.  They started today and have already stripped out one bathroom and taken down the ceiling in the bedroom.

Finding more poor workmanship and cut corners in the work previously done, so may be more to sort out than at first thought.

My part in all this seems to be increasing  too as she has decided to have more oak woodwork!

Another day when the threatened rain failed to materialise! smile

We drove to Rydal to walk to Grasmere along the old "coffin route" and then around the two lakes (Grasmere and Rydal Water). A very steep descent into Grasmere and suddenly Mrs M realised she'd left her stick up by a seat where she'd stopped to take her coat off. If I was any sort of gentleman I'd have offered to "pop back up" to retrieve it, but she insisted I stay where we were and take care of the dogs! surprised

Grasmere village, home of William Wordsworth and, more importantly, Grasmere Gingerbread, was heaving so we passed through very quickly. Lots of folk, family groups and couples doing the same walk,  but all very sensibly social distancing when passing each other.

Reflections not quite so good today, a little more breeze rippling the water,  but I think the grey view up the lake to Helm Crag looks quite dramatic! smile
