What are you all up to

Another fine day, we decided that getting to the top of the Old Man would be too much for the old Lady (the 4 legged one, that is
) but we did walk up Coppermines Valley to Levers Water this morning where we stopped for coffee. Great views back over the lake. Then this afternoon we walked along the old railway line via Little Arrow and Torver, back via the lakeshore path to see what we could have climbed!
Mrs M's birthday tomorrow so I'll be up bright and early to cook breakfast before we set off for whatever walk a lady of such advanced years can manage!

Nellie - we thought of the 3 of you when we walked past the Black Bull this morning. We are on Bank Terrace which is a (very) narrow lane leading off the road up to Walna Scar.

Weather not warm enough to dry the ground now, which is not being helped by the several new livery stables ,and the horses and riders "unable?" to keep to the bridle ways, and are making a mess of some of the areas, as on the new , now well sign posted CentenaryWGC 100yrs this year footpath glad of my "thumb stick" ,one up side on the ancient footpaths is that the "tin hats" can be used less , as the Sweet chestnuts,Horse chestnuts, and Acorns are now nearly all down.

Firstly please wish OH a very happy birthday for tomorrow. It looks as if you had another good day out today, you certainly didn't need to go far to get into the old railway line did you? I guess a round of Tarn Hows is not on the cards for tomorrow, but maybe later in the week?

I agree that it's getting dark early, especially up here, as we had to have the lights on in the van at 6:30 this evening, although I guess the trees round the site don't help.
Woke to a very fine drizzle (Scotch Mist) but didn't get very wet during our early morning walk, and it was dry by about 10:00. Drove up to St Fergus for a walk on the beach where we saw more Grey Seals in the water. What fine stretches of sand they have up here, and at this time of the year nearly empty of people. After lunch went into the RSPB's Loch of Strathbeg reserve for a walk along the only trail that was open to view the Whooper Swans. Still lots of skiens of Geese flying overhead down by the site. Our last night here before we move on down to Royal Deeside.

M. Please wish a happy bday to OH from us
Been a good day here weather not great but we took a drive up to Eyemouth and had a walk around the town then got a bag of chips and ate them overlooking the North Sea drizzly and misty but lovely all the same. After that we took a drive to Wooler nice little town we stayed there in a Static about 14 years ago so we were overdue a visit nice place very scenic drive to the town too. Took a wander down to the pub near the site tonight as usual friendly atmosphere a nice place to spend a couple of hours while SWMBO was in the van watching a film.
hope everyone else has had a nice day

Been a lovely day here today, sat and enjoyed the sun this morning then went out to Great Yarmouth after an early lunch.
Plenty of folk out enjoying the good weather but not crowded like Scarborough or Bridlington. Bought the gkids some rock and candy floss as neither sets have been on holiday this year.
Dropped in to Gorleston on sea on the way back and had a lovely walk along the beach, its a nice beach there. As kids we used to go to GY for a week in a caravan at north denes, my uncle used to go to Gorleston, he rented a beach hut there so we always went to visit them.
Francis, we will be at Berwick on Tuesday night, last night on this trip
we have so far had great weather again. Only been away 2 weeks but it feels much longer, we seem to have seen so much. MillieH, this is a nice quiet area the site is in but the approach to it isn't great. The roads are narrow and can get busy at times. I would however come again, especially in the warmer weather.

Now to more mundane matters ~~ grey skies cool with little breeze but dry { well I am indoors
} I'll be 'tethered' to fones again this week awaiting latest information on how Aged Sister is doing after another night in the tender care of NHS Leighton Hospital. She had a heart attack about 3 hours after I left her on Tuesday and since then she has been moved from Ward to Ward ensuring that we are getting our daily requirement of ' Steps ' in if only on a fone key-pad
. At least she has her mobile which we can ring, avoiding us being a "nuisance family" annoying the nursing staff with all of us ringing with the same questions even if the fone ringing keeps the other patients from enjoying their naps. Now I'm off for the Sunday Scandal Sheet, Keep warm, dry, fit and well
Bye 4 now

I've got four 'Thumb Sticks' JVB, amongst their obvious uses I find them ideal as substitutes for a camera tripod if they are carefully selected. Wide enough for a broad chunky thumb
as well as which ever lens I choose to use, normally a physically short telephoto to save having the big camera bag with the full selection which is getting to be a pain to carry around these days.0 -
Snap muscles, I have quite a few too👍🏻🙂. The beauty of the wood & the different tops with inserts are always an attraction. Country sticks-love em.

Up early to see if the timer had worked on the new bread maker, all OK, pleased with new machine and bread.
ABM sorry to hear about your sister, hope she progresses well.
Happy Birthday to Mrs M.
TG the last time we visited G Yarmouth we met up with friends who had borrowed a static. We went for a swim, six children between us, the north sea was quite warm that day! We rented a NT cottage at Blickling. Glad you've had a good visit.
It sounds nice up Berwick Francis, I like it round Wooler. I am now missing all these places writing this!
Nellie, it's been good to hear about the east coast.
Hope there's less mud around today JVB, I'm off for a walk soon, a darkish start to the day, overcast but no wind. Piles of leaves to sweep up later. 🍁🍂🍁

Hope your sister is doing ok , she is in good hands
I notice how much "kit" that is now carried ,by photographers and some of the lenses are only suitable if you are tall enough to keep them from dragging on the ground

Rosa and i were out just before Dawn (sunrise)0645 this morning, hoping to see a few of the creatures that go to ground as other dog walkers take to the footpaths? not a chance there were more around than at midday , so many mountain bike riders and horse riders as well as us dog walkers

Sorry about your news ABM, best wishes for you all. It must be very difficult being unable to visit, but it keeps everyone, not least your Sister safe. Perhaps a WhatsApp video call at some point, it cheers my Mum up no end seeing rather than hearing. As I say, kind wishes to you all.
Happy Birthday Mrs M! Hope and trust you are spoiled rotten all day!👍

Missed your news Brian so will join everyone else's best wishes for a speedy recovery for your aged sister. Not a good place to be at the moment. Must be worrying for you.
Had a haircut today after almost 8 weeks since the last one. Must be getting balder as the amount Mrs WN took off wouldn't supply a Sparrow with a decent nest but she does like to take her time and to be fair she does an excellent job with some very poor material to work on.
Not sure what the afternoon will bring. Await instructions is usually the best advice I can give myself.
Happy Birthday to Mrs M.

Thank you all for your kind comments, but I think that Sisters daughter might have a few words to say to her when she is back at home and once more grumbling at Alfie her cat ! The girl has checked over the house, meds, TV licence, put cleaners on hold etc etc and unearthed a couple or so of unusual bills, d/debits etc which she cannot sort since no paperwork allowing it but I can imagine her standing in front & wagging a stern finger or so until Power of Attorney is arranged 'cos what I'm hearing reeks of Aged Folks Scammers. Nothing that Yours Truly can do of course since I'm only her brother

Still at least I can feed my birds, order more bird food and work out my own shopping list

Pleased to hear that you are productively loafing away Brue

Oh dear ABM. Hope things get sorted. It’s very very difficult persuading someone to delegate some of their independence, but in this day and age, it’s the lesser of two evils sadly. We have a tussle every day trying to keep Mum safe, mainly from herself, her never give in spirit, her unwillingness to “be a burden”. The irony would be funny if wasn’t so sad. Persuasion, discussion, kindness. Best way forward, but it don’t always work😬 Mum walks for ages, very slowly, in pain sometimes, has to be on my arm while I push her chair, until she finally gets in and easier progress is made, pride only slightly dented. Which is preferable to a broken hip.......😉

Had to smile Ttda. We were out walking the other day and decided to take a different route. We happened upon MiL who takes herself off on a 2 mile jaunt with walking stick after Mrs WN finally persuaded her to take it out every time. What was she doing? Only carrying it in her hand and not using it for balance at all. Merely carrying the blasted thing around.
Sorry to hear of your troubles ABM. I do hope your niece has misconstrued things but wouldn't be surprised if she hasn't. Ask her to go gently though.

Dad used a stick, although just how much it helped was debatable. Mum wouldn’t be seen dead with one. She thinks everyone is staring at her and judging when she uses a wheel chair. (It’s a generation thing, growing up her generation didn’t see too many folks in wheelchairs) Doesn’t need it often, only if we are out on a long walk and she gets tired. We do encourage her to walk as much as she can, around the house she is fine, up and down stairs, only extra aid is two banisters. But she does over balance occasionally, usually when she leaps up too quickly. Not safe outdoors on her own though, too many trip hazards. Getting her to look in direction she is walking is a bonus!😉 Norfolk cottage was gorgeous, but a trip hazard nightmare. Thresholds across every door, cobbled and bricked paving, then the one we haven’t come across before, floors so old in bedrooms you rolled downhill, then uphill, just like being on a boat! But we all survived trip free🤞

So sorry to hear about your sister ABM. I do hope she makes a good recovery and is soon back home.
Happy birthday to Mrs M Moulesy. I hope you are both having a good day.
I did my first solo guided tour of the Cathedral yesterday. I had a lovely group to show around who were very interested. However. half way round a lady came hurrying up to me with her mobile phone in her hand to say that her DIL had got locked in the loo. I had to leave my group with profuse apologies and go and speak to and calm the poor woman through the door who was locked in (or out as it happened) and alert the Welcomers who have all the keys and they quickly released her. It appears that one of the clergy had gone out of the back door on the way to her home and locked the door behind her which meant the poor woman who had been to the loo was then locked out of the Cathedral and did not have the key to the back gate. I think my group will remember that as the most 'interesting' part of the their tour

.TG thank you for the information about the site at Lowestoft. We might put it on our list. I have a cousin who lives in Wymondham near Norwich and they love to go to Gorleston. I think that is where Mr and Mrs OP live.

Today started off nice again but we did get a sharp shower late morning.
Took a walk out locally this morning then after lunch drove down to Southwold. What a lovely place it is, town oldy worldy. Nice independent shops not part of a chain. Sea front nice and natural with just a pier.
We've enjoyed our trip away especially East Anglia. Shame we have to head home but those flu jabs have to be got. We've had some good sunny days with very little rain and what rain we have had has been mostly overnight or just short showers.
Got a call from the MH dealer to say its ready to collect, they have tried everything to find the leak we had but can't find anything. It's been under a hose and also left out in the rain for days. Dry as a bone no sign of any wet. We will just have to keep our eye on it, they have taken a note of it as its still under warranty so if we experience it again it will still be covered. Once we get home and have our jabs we might just take it away for a few days, provided we can.
Happy birthday to Mrs M.
Sorry to hear your news ABM, hope your sister is back home soon.
Millie I had an idea that OP was from around Gorleston. Good you've had your first solo guide even if there were other problems, I'm sure your group enjoyed it and that you did a grand job.

Mrs M says thank you for all the birthday wishes and wants you to know she has been spoiled rotten all day (to be honest, I made up that last bit!
)A dry but cloudy day, we walked from the cottage up to Tarn Hows - the reflections were stunning today, something to do with the calm conditions and white sky I think.
Not a bad spot to stop for a picnic lunch, spoiled only by a rather aggressive woman with two retrievers, off the lead (despite all the "please keep your dog on a lead" signs) who stood staring at us and then wondered why Ralph barked at her. Although she was rather rude I maintained an excellent polite countenance (and if you believe that you'll believe anything!
) Why do some folk think the world revolves around them?

We arrived home this afternoon after a week in North Yorkshire, excellent journey home very little traffic
Apologies but I Haven't been keeping up to date, but will try to catch up. We weren't sure about heading away, but glad we did in the end. Weather was a bit mixed and everywhere was very wet underfoot so walks ended up with a very filthy dog at the end! The area was busier than usual especially at weekends, but we found some quieter places to walk. Did venture into Whitby mid week for some fish and chips, I just couldn't go home without having some.
A couple of the local shops were closed due to cases of Covid, one of which closed during the week, it made it a bit close for comfort.

Spoke to our neighbour while emptying the caravan and apparently there has been a fox visiting the gardens in our road.
Tammygirl I like Southwold too, the town was really busy though when we were there in September so we didnt stay long.

Nice spot Moulesy, the dogs look very well behaved!
Millie, a day to remember, possibly for the wrong reasons, talk about being prepared for all eventualties.
Do hope Oneputt (as mentioned in dispatches on here) and family are doing well, a nice part of the world in E Anglia.
And now, I'm "snookered" for the evening, OH will be glued to the TV. I wil probably go to bed early and read the dreadful but entertaining political diary I've been enjoying on my Kindle, it contains both DCs the Brexit one and the Barnard Castle one, neither appear in a very good light....

Millie really pleased your first solo guided tour went well and glad you were able to release the lady from the loo with no harm done.
