We had a nice day today weather here was actually quite nice for the time of year so we took a drive out to Lindisfarne and had a good walk the place was very busy but nice to be outside in the fresh air. There was even a guy playing the bagpipes down at the castle. The little village shop seems to have closed permanently which is a shame always enjoyed a walk around there. Popped in to Go Outdoors on the way back to the site for a few bits and pieces. Not sure what we are doing tomorrow will wait and see what the weather is like.

Reflections not quite so good today, a little more breeze rippling the water, but I think the grey view up the lake to Helm Crag looks quite dramatic!

The Lion and The Lamb is one our favourite climbs. Maybe not the satisfaction gained by climbing Helvellyn on the opposite side of the valley but the views from the top looking down Windermere must be one of the best in the Lakes. So I'm jealous but thanks for the photos.

I remember one year walking in the Pyrenees. Baking hot and hard going on a lot of hard solid stone. We stopped for lunch and Mrs WN took off her watch to dangle her hands in the pond and yes, she left the watch there only to find out about a mile up back towards base. I didn't have the luxury of a couple of dogs unlike some folk! I don't think I've ever been so hot on a walk.

Sounds like you are enjoying some decent weather as well.

Another day that turned out better than forecast. Parked up at Muir of Dinnet Nature Reserve and did the waymarked trails around Loch Kinord. After lunch walked up to The Vat. The car park was busier than we've seen in the past with quite a few families out walking but no problem keeping well apart from them. The trees, birch, maple, wild cherry and rowan, are showing lovely colours now and the reflections on the water similar to those of M's yesterday.

We've had similar experiences, leaving bits of equipment behind after a lunch stop, and It's always my fault even when OH was responsible, so me who had to "dash" back to retrieve the item.laughing

We're paying this morning for yesterday's pleasant weather. Storm Barbara is dropping lots of moisture! Dora's not left her bed yet 😴 . It's barely light.

Held our nerve and didn't cancel yesterday's friends visit, we had a lovely catch up in the garden in the sun, no coats or blankets needed 😃. Lifted our spirits no end. Especially the M&S spooky cakes 🤣.

Had the car valeted on the drive, very pleased fabulous job and reasonable cost. Another of those jobs I don't have time for or the energy, and not a favourite of mine anyway. I have taken it through a drive through was ok. Also had them do the inside - good enough but all done drive through and inside in 30 minutes, granted there's more than one. But I have to go stand in 'shelter' and there's usually  dog  ends . But this guy was great everywhere done and on a time basis, for man hours, a very similar price. I'll be booking him again. He's now taking bookings for December 😱

Another positive from the car clean us that my missing keys turned up as I emptied the bits from the boot. They were lying on the lower level with first aid kit. Been missing for months, I gave in and had new key, there was only one that we didn't have a spare of, cut about 4 weeks ago.

Right off to check repeat prescription requirements, naturally not all supplies run out together! Then prepare a casserole before the dog walk.. it might have stopped raining by then but I'm not holding my breath! Then I've te opticians this afternoon - thankfully not cancelled as we're tier 2. Be nice to discuss my cataract operated eye.

Lovely to read others news and see photos. Stay safe folks

It was lovely and warm here yesterday as well, TShirt weather, so I did more in garden. This morning is damp though, so we are off out for a picnic later. Pooch got us up, then promptly went back to bed, the blighter!

    Very very quiet outside.

For sometime now we have been looking for a new vacuum cleaner. Our SEBO X1 is now 20 years old and still working perfectly well but it is heavy especially lugging it up and down stairs. Choosing a new one seems a bit of a mindfield. Our neighbour has one called a Shark! I was rather taken by the ideal of it coming apart to do jobs like stairs or the car. Visited JL yesterday to have a feel but found the Shark far too heavy more like a whale! I have always resisted the idea of rechargeable cleaners but there seems to be a vast array of them. A bit more research when we got home and have decided, for better or worse, to go for a Vax rechargeable which is less than half the weight of the SEBO. It will be interesting to see how it compares?

Hope you find the new cleaner efficient David. I agree choosing them is a minefield, reviews don't necessarily help either!

We had a Dyson cylinder, DC05, which gave stirling service for years and I loved being able to wash the cylinder and all the pipes and tubes. Emptying was a bit messy as it didn't compress, but I did it virtually after every use straight into the wheelie bin liner. I had it serviced earlier this year and had a couple of incidents after, of course nothing to do with the service 😡, where it came apart when I was carrying it, the base landing on my instep causing bruising and pain! I'd had trouble getting those components apart previously 🤬.

I'd been looking for ages but Dyson weren't getting good reviews regardless of type. I bought my late mum's Miele vacuum home, my brother has one and reckons they're good. She'd had hers for a few years, suggested by her then cleaner. Boy does it have some suction 😱, almost impossible to move it on the highest suction! It's quite nice, not light, but it has a bag and I notice that despite using a vacuum bag freshener it does have a slight odour in use. The bags are quite expensive and large so I'm reluctant to change it too often. Anyone have any suggestions to lessen it??

I bought a Shark this year, our son's departing gift to us (after his 6 month plus sojourn here) amongst other less useful things was a rechargeable Dyson. It was light and easy and I quite liked it but it had missing bits and the suction wasn't brilliant. So I passed it on to daughter and partner for their car etc and bought a Shark. Our pull along Miele is wasting away in a cupboard but I think I will part company with it soon as the Shark is in use all the time, it isn't as heavy as some of their products but it's a bit heavier than the Dyson.

Guess what David our son now has a rechargeable Vax! wink

PS Bakers, you might need to change the Miele charcoal filter if it has one, that keeps things fresh. I've also bought bags that aren't Miele but are designed to fit, no problems and a lot cheaper so I don't mind throwing them away more often...but as I say, I now enjoy a bagless Shark. smile

Like you David we were unsure of rechargeable vacuum cleaners but we did take the plunge for a rechargeable Dyson V6 about 3 years ago and we love it.  It wouldn’t do a whole house ‘proper clean’ but for everyday tidying up the kitchen, lounge and bedroom it works brilliantly.  I would certainly always have one again, light and easy to use.  It’s an old model now, with a rather small dust capacity, but later models are better in that respect.  We have a small rechargeable Vax for the caravan, but that one was a mistake, along with the really, really heavy and awkward Dyson DC 41 rollerball one, which I particularly hate - wish we had returned it!!!! 🥴

I've just bought a Tineco rechargeable vacuum cleaner.  Not a name I'd heard of before but I have to say it's brilliant.  Bought it on the strength of the rave reviews on Amazon and wasn't disappointed.  It's basically a Dyson copy but with all the niggles of a Dyson sorted out - such as not having to keep one's finger on the trigger all the time, two batteries and it sits in a re-charging dock, so no need to have to look for the charger and plug it in.  Even has an attachment for automatically cleaning the filter.

Wasn't cheap at well over £300 but comes with a vast array of tools and is so light to use.  The previous Vax will be off to the charity shop shortly and the hand-held Dyson now has a permanent home in the van.

Very wet and dull here today. Not that it mattered much as waiting in for a delivery. A new iphone for OH. Her old one had started to fall apart and as it is 6 years old we decided not to repair. DPD delivered it about 12:30. Very easy to set up, just had to lay old one alongside, tell the new one I wanted to copy the old one and input our Apple ID. Took about 10 / 15 minutes. The hardest part was getting the sim out of the old one to put in the new. The old phone had a hard plastic case that seemed to have welded itself to the phone. Once that was off transfer took a couple of minutes. So now OH has Covid app as well.

Back home and all unloaded smile putting away all done time to put the washing on.

Francis was right we were on the pitch in front of themlaughing managed a wee chat this morning before we set off. Hope you have a good time at Yellow Craig when you get there.

Weather was great on the drive up, I love coming up the East coast when its good weather the views are something else. The sun vanished and the grey skies returned around Kinross, back home to hear its done nothing but rain since we left. Trees are all turning lovely colours and also dropping their leaves. Garden doesn't look to bad but very wet under foot.

Had a call from dealer to say they have now got someone to do the repair to the small worktop in the MH. It was agreed at the time of purchase but has been difficult to get organised due to Covid. Now almost there, the chap is mobile so is coming to the house to do it, just need to set a date.

Off tomorrow to collect it from dealer, then a bit of shopping and hairdresser in the afternoon.

Woke up to  a morning of low cloud and mist (or, as Mrs M insisted on calling it, rain yell) so decided on an easyish low level walk from the National Trust's Wray Castle along the shore of Windermere and back.) The castle itself is a curious building,  doesn't seem to have ever served any purpose other than offering free car parking for members (smile) but the walk was very pleasant through the beech woods that line the lake shore. By the time we got back the cloud had lifted enough to give a fine view over to Langdale Pikes.

Was nice to meet TG and OH this morning and had a nice chat. Good to put a face to a name. Glad yous got home ok

Been a nice day here quite warm for the time of year. We took a drive to the Lindisfarne Inn for lunch we have passed it many times and always wanted to go in so today we took our chance and it was well worth it. Lovely meal with big portions and the pub itself was lovely it may have been slightly on the pricey side but well worth it and I highly recommend it to anyone I the area. After that we headed back in to Berwick and had a nice walk along the harbour wall out to the lighthouse the views there are great. Now back at the van may take a wander down to the pub at the bottom of the road for a pint later on.

Good news about your sister Brian

There are a few "stars" that do indeed need shooting Brian but that's another matter.

Had a productive day. Hedge cutting between the showers, sorting out the window order (10 week waiting!!surprised) and a visit to town and tip to drop off rubbish and MiL. One at each end folks but not telling which one.smile

Hope everything went well for Ttda's OH visit to hospital. Fingers crossed.

At least in Tier 3 you can still travel around.

I strongly suspect that 2 weeks for us may become longer.

Wray Castle is a bit like our local Barrington Court, nothing inside just bare rooms where you can roll around on the floor if you so desire! wink

I quite like these empty places, makes a change from stuffed rooms and "don't touch" signs. smile

Good to hear Francis and TG had a meet up. Francis sounds like you are having a very good holiday, the weather must be a lot better up there. We've had torrential rain all day, very dark and dismal. Daughter's partner spent all day under the dripping trees crushing cider apples, rather him than me!

I'll have a good look and chat to brother, I think his is the same. Dint go looking for other folks vacuums they might expect you to use it in their house!🤣.  I've certainly changed 2 material filters.

Good to hear of other's choices in vacuums. Friend raves about her cordless Dyson, they always were pricey but I'm not sure the quality is what it was!

ABM great news about your sister. Much better at home than hospital, once they've done their job, at the best of times but most certainly in these days.

Good to see photos, and hear of meet up's. Even nice weather days........ it has been persistently raining here most of the day.

Walked to the new to me opticians, changed as the one I'd been using for years was not what it was 😢 and COVID brought redundancies and my optician not back yet - volume of business?! Good recommendation from a friend, very thorough. As I suspected the prescription for my glasses post cataract OP not right, now and I'm not convinced previously but I got them just before lockdown and haven't been able to discuss with that optician since! Long story short, no varifocals, 2 pairs, one for reading and one for distance - each having one eye plain glass. I've to go back to choose frames, I want cheapest I can for now to see if it works, both will only be needed occassionally, but they don't have examples in shop, so back when they do. My last ones were Lindenburg and it will be £120 just to have news lenses 😱, whereas I should be able to get both pairs for a similar price! No not a large chain but self owned opticians.

Was delighted to learn that it's just dry eyes causing the irritation in my post cataract op eye, I was a tad worried after reading KjNelln's post about his wife. I hope she gets sorted quickly. I know milliehull is waiting on having hers done.

Walked out and met someone who OH worked with and caught up, in the pouring rain, but not seen her for more than a year. She only lives a couple of roads away but neither of us knew the others house number - rectified now! She said cant believe not seen you for months and months, they wanted a chat about NZ, but had their month there this time last year 🤣

Hope takethedogalong OH got on OK and her M&S shop was successful 😉

Sorted some of my parents photos today, the pile looks little different but have a lot to send to NZ also marked with names, places and dates since we can't reminisce together 😢😢. I suspect a large postage charge just for photos without adding the bits I've bought for the girls. We don't usually post much out, they get more value buying out there and they get the equivalent of postage as an added extra, but I couldnt resist a few light bits that I've seen.

Im watching inside The Tower of London just as lockdown commences, all very odd. Off to put the bins out - it's about as exciting as it gets!

Great news about your sister ABM👍 Hope she continues a good recovery.

We have had a lovely afternoon, if a little damp. Lovely ride out across Wortley, Green Moor, Strines area (Tour de France territory) then ended up down at Fairholmes car park at Ladybower for our picnic. Wonderful Autumn colours, pooch enjoyed his stroll. A nice easy drive back into Sheffield, free car park at hospital, OH in and out in half an hour, back home, stove lit and dinner served (not M&S😁) by 7pm.

I am Mum sitting tomorrow, she has her annual MOT at Docs tomorrow, then I might treat her to a trip out to local recycle centre, with some garden rubbish😂

    Autumn colours........

I too hope tda's OH's hospital visit went ok. Good to read that mini meet at Berwick happened, that TG got home safe and sound, and that Francis had a fine meal and day out. Great news about your sister getting back home, ABM, much better for her peace of mind than being in hospital I would think. Glad you sorted out which went where during your trip to town today, WN, wink. Sounds as if you've had a busy and interesting day, B2. Wray Castle has had an interesting and varied history, M, even though it is now empty, being associated with Beatrice Potter, housed the offices of the Freshwater Biological Association, and was the training college for Merchant Navy radio officers. Lovely shot of the Langdales. Can't say that I know a lot about vacuum cleaners.smile

Yes, it’s just routine, so fingers crossed🤞always a bit stressful though.

We are assuming boiler work will go ahead, not heard anything different. I shall insist on masks on all the time, and main work is down in cellar, and up in attic, so once they have finished we could actually leave these areas to air for a few days, not venture in there at all. I might do a two week keep away from Mum and Sister period, just to keep them safe. Needs must.

It was wet and 'orrible here yesterday so having updated the iPhones and iPad the previous day, I set about updating the MacBook to the latest op system. That was relatively pain-free but the subsequent back-up took 13 hours. surprised

Disappointing to note that the "translate" app isn't on the laptop unlike the other gadgets. I'll have to revert to pointing and speaking loudly in English.
