WN, just watching the news. I had no idea that the Wales lockdown was going to be so severe. The news showed them emptying the shelves in the supermarket of non essential items
that didn't even happen back in March. Take care of yourself, Mrs WN and of course MIL.
Thanks Nellie, yes I think it was the right decision not to go. Already planning our next trip in the van.
Hope the new vacuum proves to be a good buy DK.

Some Police forces , I seem to recall, threatened to do checks on supermarkets early on in "Lockdown" but I think they were told it was not in their province TG, even tho on reflection it would seem to be fair towards the smaller Non-Essential shops which must close.
Tomorrow I will do the Annual Battery check / change for the clocks so they can keep up with the loss of Summer-time. At least the one in the Ducky will be right since I never change it at all

Get all your planning done now while the forecast is poor so you can get up, up and away when the Winter sun shines.
Take care everybody, please, and Good Night

‘Emptying the shelves of non essential items’, how does that help control virus spread🤷🏻♂️. That just seems to be hurting the supply chain that supermarkets support, even vindictive. I’d love to know the thinking behind that decision. Sweets, alcohol, clothes, fragrances etc, are they too on the non essential list?🤔

Perhaps they are just trying to be fair to the shops that only sell "non essential products" that have to close for the circuit break. I don't suppose 2 weeks is that long to wait and then those shops will have an equal chance of selling the item, rather than the supermarket being the only source of supply.

Quite agree, SteveL, I was trying to say that but it was vairy close to Brian's bed time so I might have been a little off target.

So long as the point was made for TG's information then I'm happy

Any way Good Morning Everybody, well as good as it can be on this grey cloudy windy Saturday morning. I'll have to hope that all your smiles will lift this gloom & drag out the Sun to do it's job

Well we did it but no thanks to the weather forecast. 110 feet of old guttering taken down at the Mountain Rescue Team's garage and replacement put up in continuous drizzle. Not easy when having to use some mains powered tools. The forecast said dry until the afternoon when there was just a 22% chance of rain. Just as we finished, mid afternoon, the rain stopped, the sky brightened and we saw glimpses of blue sky. Sod's law.

Well done JohnM20 great to hear folks helping out where they can. Our weather can be perverse!
I thought supermarkets selling non essential items was to level up the playing field a little for the non essential shops that have to close. That seems only fair to me. Down here shops allowed to open were selling everything. I'll use bedding plants as an example, these were flying off the shelves in supermarkets whilst the poor growers and nurseries were not allowed to trade. Locally they set too and established fb or online presence and deliveries which helped but it all cost whilst the big stores just added to their sales and boosted their own profits and dividends. If it comes to a full lockdown again hopefully they'll be able to continue in remote sales but the fact that the supermarket has them there and then when you are out shopping might be too tempting! Likewise other smaller businesses. We were loosing independent suppliers before all this and lockdown sent a few more to the wall, not good practice......
Tammygirl sorry your abroad trip is off but seems a very sensible decision. Supply and demand sort of illustrates non essential sales 😉
Grey here not raining - yet. Need to do dog walk she's still in her bed. OH hasn't shifted either not good........ Going to make vegetable soup on my return.
enjoy hour day folks

Carpet tile samples ordered. The decision to redo all the hall and staircase woodwork has been made. I need to get busy on eBay as well.

Had to chuckle to myself. I watched a film that I didn’t know much about last night. All about a Britain under a severe controlling government, who had taken control following some sort of horrible mismanaged virus programme. A few nasties in charge of everything, then lo, a lone crusader turns up, starts to right the wrongs, until finally an apathetic, downtrodden population sees the light, and some form of order is restored. What made me chuckle was that although quite an old film, it was set in the year 2020. Someone could glimpse into the future...........scary😂

I've just been catching a glimpse on TV of the new children's story museum in Oxford ..looks great. Last night I saw that Trebah and Abbotsbury gardens had played a part in filming "The Secret Garden", some good things around. I've still got a ticket for Trebah, couldn't go when the van broke down, I like it all year round in these gardens. Will have to make do til after half term and hope to visit soon. 🌳

I see The Secret Garden has only just made it onto the screen. We came across them filming on the North York Moors, must be three years ago now. We were very miffed as they had closed off our favourite picnic spot and walk, and it’s a bit of a diversion to head off anywhere else. Julie Walters had been in Pickering doing a bit of shopping as well. If you haven’t been Brue, put Helmsley Walled Garden on your “must visit” list. It’s lovely, right underneath the castle walls as well. A good day out.👍
We love Trebah as well. One of our favourites.

PAH does some good discounts JV, we shop there as well. What was the delivery charge like?

The reason given, Rocky, by the FM was that the whole point of the lockdown was to get people to spend as little time as possible in situations around other people outside of your immediate bubble and this includes Shopping. The rationale seems to be that perusing aisles for socks or clothes, pans, phones, stationery etc. is not essential to living so those shops that specialise in these items have been forced to close.
The FM considers it unfair that Tesco, for example, can carry on selling these items whilst "Beths Children Clothing" shop in the High Street cannot.
As pointed out a lot of this trade is not going to hang around until Beth opens up again but will go online to Goliaths like Amazon.
Anyway this is probably best dealt with under the "Covid Madness" thread than on here.
We'll put up with it as we don't have much choice.

Off to get my flu jab this morning. Very well organised and in fact I was stabbed and back in the car before my allotted time.
Just stopped raining so may have to go and do some work outside.
Edit - Oh good it's just started raining again.

Just back from a trip to a local farmers market, only bought a couple, of things this time.
Our youngest son's girlfriend is now isolating as her work colleague had test results back and it was positive, she hasn't any symptoms at the moment.
Its our wedding anniversary today, 28 years,

we didnt fancy going out for a meal so a takeaway and a bottle of wine tonight. Have also been given a rather nice bottle of Blackberry Gin.

Best Wishes Helen and Trevor.
The rain didn't stop Mrs WN insisting on replanting some Black Eyed Susies that a neighbour had gifted so I was called into action.
Sad news. A friend has just found out that a close relative has Covid and is on a ventilator. The relative is in a Tier 3 region. A feeling of helplessness has descended on our friend.

Where is the sense in that?
The stated purpose is to reduce people mingling.
One person's essential items.......parts for repairing things for example.........may be things they always buy on line, why should they be prevented from buying in their normal manner?

Had my flu jab last week, organised by our local surgery, very efficient in and out in 4 minutes, wish I could say the same for my left arm, took 4 days for it to come back to normal. Pouring down here at the moment, at least it's washing the mud off the front of the caravan after our pre-lockdown journey home from Freshwater East yesterday. Hopefully we can be back out later in November with our new van (if Covid allows us to collect from the dealer).

OH swept the chimney this morning, fire lit, bread made, another covid banana loaf out of the oven, dog feeling a lot better (rice and chicken diet.) Strong winds will hopefully take the leaves to someone else's patch, spoke to elderly neighbour who was hoping the same, maybe we'll just swap leaves?
Other elderly neighbour in bed, don't think the family know and as they're in locked down Wales not much chance of finding out.Todays very low key entertainment looks like the Club AGM if I can partake of Zoom. At least I don't have to worry about what's in the picture behind me or whether I look like the dog as it's viewing only for the watchers.

Thanks Nellie, I will take a look.
