Thanks Nellie, I think we will take 9 so not to be too close to the big shed, Linda said all the pitches offered, 7,9 and 10, would be big enough for our 8m van.  Will remember to have our levelling planks with us!  The photo did look like there is a slope from pitch 10 down to pitch 7.

We need to lean the other way if we go nose in, towards our door side for drainage of our shower,  so will make sure we have plenty of levelling blocks with us.

We are not going till next April, the 1st for 5 nights, but sites are booking up fast, so we wanted to book early.

How is the site for wind?  We only have an open canopy porch, so do not always need to put it up, but it is nice to have rain shelter over the door.

    Nothing too narrow!

The site does catch the wind as it is relatively high up. As the prevailing wind would be from the east, by going in nose first the van would generally protect your awning from the wind. Hope you are able to get there and enjoy your stay.

Funny you should say that. After Cruden Bay we are heading to Greenpark CL at Banchory, so I'll be able to give you the full route we'll take next week. Which way are you going to Banchory? Are you going to use the Slug Road off the A90 to avoid Aberdeen ring road?

Millie, thanks for your suggestion for tomorrow we will look at that, it was nice to meet you to. Town was pretty quiet to.

Kj glad to hear Callum is better today.

No, with a large TA , coming from the south,  we will use the Aberdeen bypass and then come off onto the north Deeside road.  We did the other road many years back when we had a smaller van, but in 2019 we used the new road.

The ring road is very good, certainly a bit longer, but an easier drive for us these days!

Looks as if we picked the brightest to go down to the harbour!!

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-54522370

Drove along to Banff and parked at Duff House. Although the house itself was closed we had a walk through the woods before lunch, and one of there occasional showers. Then parked at the seafront and walked along the shore to Inverboyndie, and Flyte had a run on the beach. Stopped off to view a miniature Bow Fiddle rock and the abandoned saltwater swimming pool at Tarfair. Much improved day weather wise thankfully.

Tammygirl I'd echo milliehull about Fotheringay. Glad you managed a meet too!

Oundle is lovely as is Stamford, no idea how busy they'd be. There's Burleigh Gardens, Flag Fen and Rutland water for outside. Issac Newton homecmuseum - cant think of the name at the mo! If you like gardening Barnsdale Gardens the late Geoff Hamilton if gardeners world. Lovely walks around Nene Valley itself. Ely cathedral and Ely itself, great Oliver Cromwell musuem there too, lovely river as well. It's quite a sight approaching the town and seeing the cathedral rising out of the Fens. Again no idea on busyness. Huntingdon also has Oliver Cromwell museum, no idea if such things are open at present. A bit further is Cambridge but would expect that to be rather busy.

Much depends on the weather, and you seem to attract rain when visiting 😉 a bit like trying to get that trip to Spain 😱

What a washout of a day here 😱😱😱

Nice, if wet, first walk. Pottered indoors for an hour or 2, placed a large phone order with the butcher so freezer now full, bank account considerably lighter.

Then into town to collect new jeans from M&S not been inclined to try them on yet. Into John Lewis for new phone charger, it was trailing and too tempting for Dora.

I also checked out new walking boots, when removing my left one this morning my sock and foot were damp 😯. Nothing lasts - they're not 20 years old yet 🤔🤔 I'm not heavy on footwear. Tried Ultimate Outdoors, was Blacks, not impressed on several counts - sign asking you not to touch footwear, fair enough, when I asked to check a label, I had checked my Brashers for size etc, I was told that was fine........  Anyway called in a newish outdoor shop, turns out family owned business since 1930's name escapes me, what a different experience! Measured etc and offered to have a fit today, but time had got away from me so declined, offered ability to book a fitting online or by phone to save a wait 😀. Manager said they'd been really busy and business up on last year with tents, sleeping bags etc flying out, and now folks been in they're returning for other items. Nice to here good news. Learned Brashers aren't the same any more and my new boots of quality will be approximately double the cost my last pair, probably too much for my Christmas list 🤣

Back out to collect meat order, butcher had packed as requested so home and frozen.

OH and Dora came in soaked from short late afternoon walk 🤣🤣.

Our county council trying to get us in the highest tier for COVID - not going down well as far as businesses are concerned. We are having increases but from a lowish start, there are some localised higher areas. Son coming for bed and board on way to golf in Kent saturday and maybe Friday so I'll be greatly saddened if it comes off. But maybe a stitch in time.........

Appointment tomorrow cancelled, their childcare issues, so may go out and buy lots of veg to prepare and roast then freeze, just about enough room! To be ahead of potential problems.

Stay safe and enjoy your travels if you're lucky enough to be away.

Another recommendation for Fotheringhay, although I would check that you can get into the church before going. There’s only a tiny bit of the castle left, I think Richard III was born there as well as being the execution place of Mary Queen of Scots. It’s the Church that is the gem. Inside are the tombs of Duke of York brother of Henry V, killed at Agincourt, and the tomb of Richard Duke of York, father to Edward IV and Richard III. Full of history. I think there has been some work going on to keep it safe, so cannot recall if it is open yet.

An alternative we did from FM was a run out to Ely. Cathedral is superb, and a nice little town as well. I think there might be Oliver Cromwell’s house there as well, can’t remember🤔

Flag Fen is closed at the moment.  Burghley grounds and gardens are open but the house is closed. I think you have to book  tickets online for Ely Cathedral (quite expensive!) at the moment. Oliver Cromwell Museum in Huntingdon is open but it would be worth looking them up online as I presume you would need to book as it is quite small - but very interesting. Run by a wonderful guy called Stuart Orme.

Our Museum Society is running their talks on Zoom for this season. Eldest son came round this evening and set it all up for us to watch this evening's lecture on our TV. It worked amazingly well and before the lecture we could all see and wave to each other which was great. Very interesting talk on Longthorpe Tower.

Never thought Flag Fen would be closed. Yes should have said only gardens at Burlghley.

Oh yes forgot Ely cathedral expensive- we cheated and visited the stained glass musuem housed upstairs - chaper I recall, and looked down on the interior of the cathedral.

Do you know I moved into a parallel world and forgot about COVID when making my suggestions 🤣🤣

Sounds like a lovely evening and a son visit 😀. I used to know how to hook my laptop to our old TV, but no idea if I could with a tablet? Miss the young brains being around these days.

    OH's parents had a camping/outdoor shop back in the 50s to 80s.

When they wanted to retire, early 80s, they sold out to Blacks.  FIL was contracted to stay on for a year.

Blacks put in a manager, who turned out to have his hand in the till, so that did not go well.

FIL did his contracted year, but not long after he left, the place was closed down.  Such a pity, and after 30+ years in business FIL  and MIL were heartbroken.

The locals valued the small business approach and did not like the big chain taking over.

OH was keen to take part in the family business, as was I, but FIL was astute and said that as I was qualified to be an engineer, I should do that , as it would be a much better life and much less hassle.

    He was of course correct.

Yes, Ely Cathedral is an expensive visit. I was rather annoyed when we visited, as we paid to go in, then found that parts of the Cathedral couldn’t be viewed, but no mention at the pay point😡

Bakers, be wary of new Brashers. I always had Brashers, superb. But when I went to replace my last pair, I found some shops no longer stocked them as they had sold the name and the quality of the new Brasher boots were so poor, that a number of shops had stopped stocking them due to amount of returns. Took me ages to find an alternative, nothing like as good as the originals. I have some trainer type fell walking shoes, Brashers, but the comfort just isn’t there.

Yes I understand Brasher no way as good, guessed as much when I saw the price. Not much more than I paid all those years ago!

I have the names of 3 boots ready to try on, one brand actually accommodates bunions 👍. List is downstairs so I can't name them now. I feel rather confident with the shop.

That’s sounds a really good shop. The kind of attention to detail you seldom see nowadays. I still have my very old Brasher Hillwalkers, they are no longer waterproof, but I use them for gardening.

Some of the cubicles are closed off same as showers and toilets, usually every second one. Same as urinals in mens side.

In all the other sites we've been on the 2 little hand wash sinks have had 1 in use and 1 not. This allows for a bit of distancing.

The block here is the same layout as in others (that part of it) so cannot see why they have taped them both off.

There is a big Covid poster on the wall above the taped off sinks that reminds you to wash your hands for 20 seconds, ironic or what.

One of the cubicles could be used but the soap dispensers are above the little sinks so you would have to walk backward and forward to do this which causes more traffic in that area. The crazy thing is you can quite easily walk into someone when leaving the block as it has a double door. To be honest there is no way any of the blocks can social distance as there is only one way in and out.

Office staff was of no use all I got was "I didn't make the rule" and "you can always use your own" to which I replied "we are now"

Yes, the blocks were not designed for a pandemic!!

We have the same problem in the Guide Hall OH looks after.  There are 3 toilets and 3 basins.  Each unit (Guides, Brownies, Rainbows) Is allocated a toilet cubicle, but  all 3 basins are available, to encourage hand washing.  Only one child  allowed in the area at a time.  Only one way in and out.

At  least, when it comes to entering and leaving the building, we have a front door and  back (fire escape) door.

Bakers2 The reason that Flag Fen is closed is because Vivacity who ran all the health and leisure services on behalf of the council decided to terminate the contract in the middle of lockdown which threw everything into confusion.  They are now being run by the council who are gradually re-opening libraries, theatre and museum but it is too late in the season the open Flag Fen sadly. It is now in need of some TLC and will hopefully re-open next spring.

    Thanks brue.

Good news, Callum's test was negative, so we can all resume "normal life".  The time for the result to arrive was much shorter than predicted, DD was originally told 48 hours, then at the time of the test, 24 hours, but she got an e mail with the result late last night, so about 14 hours.

She had gone to bed by then, so only read it this morning.

Still no word on when the car will be ready, but at least we can go out for milk, and a flu vaccination for OH.  I will go too and ask if they can fit me in at the same time.

We've just had a phone call from the dentist. Mrs WN due in tomorrow for the first part of sorting out her tooth that has had a temporary filling in since early March! Dentist's little daughter not feeling well so they may have to postpone and will let us know tomorrow. Not sure she wants to go in now.

Do any of you remember the kerfuffle we had in trying to trace a lobe that had fallen off MiL's hearing aid in her bedroom some time ago? We turned the place upside down and inside out. It didn't stop her using it but she finally went back to the specialist today as they have finally received replacements. Whilst there they checked her ears out and yep, they found the dome pushed down into her ear cavity!!!surprisedsmile About the only place we didn't look. Mrs WN doesn't need a haircut as most of it has been torn out by her.laughing

Speaking of hair cuts I had mine done today and I think I look worse than when I went in... yell There was a slight air of doom and gloom in there, even more covid prevention going on and the three very elderly people who came and went hadn't got a mask between them!

Daughter bought me some nice garden flowers later on, puchased from outisde someone's cottage home, lovely dahlias and salvias. Lifted my spirits!

Brue I think it takes a while to get your hair back in shape after long time of no hairdresser visits. I've had 4 cuts since things eased and I think this time the weight and length is as it was before lockdown. Fear it might be back to square one again 😱.

Lovely that plants have cheered you up,nature is great for lifting the spirits. I'm finding that now Dora and I are amongst the greenery trees etc, even if it's been HEAVY rain. It's only been our 3rd day 😀

Been pottering all day, 2 hour dog walk, chose my own veg in Lidl, ok in there, to roast. Home prepared and roasted them. Now 10 bags ready for easy use in the freezer. Line dried washing. Walked Dora to the vet for check of her 'lump'. It seems to be getting marginally bigger. Confirmed they think it's a knot from stitches in deeper layers. Naturally heavy rain whilst we walked and whilst I stood outside the vets.

Been invited, fingers legs and everything else crossed, to our son and DIL for Christmas.they haven't spent all of christmas Day together in all their years together 8 or 9. We can make a bubble of 6. However, I will prepare things incase it goes belly up at the last minute! So that'll be 2 lots of prep. But will keep me out of mischief!

Oh forgot to say son says 6 cases in their Peterborough office, smallish office not sure in numbers but well under 40 Testing and self isolating happening. Closest contacts, office wise, were some but others in the office not so close! Glad he was transferred a year or 2 back to their Cambridge office.

He's been incredibly vigilant since the beginning, maybe years of working as a physio on hospital wards gave him an insight??

Need to say there is no physical interaction between offices currently thank goodness. He's coming Friday so we get to see him for 2 nights and the part of Saturday when he's not playing golf.! Got to practice before going to Kent for 3 games. They've all swopped to single rooms rather than share several weeks back. They've checked it all out again and all seems good 🤞
