What are you all up to

A nice site David. Used to be our go to when we were working, as although a little further for us than Castleton or Chatsworth, you could usually get in at short notice, even for most weekends. However, since they refurbished it and put in service pitches it has been more popular. We visited in 2019 with our MH, however went for a standard pitch as we prefer the top of the site. We even had a phone signal there, which was a plus on earlier visits.

Raining since early morning here so nothing much done job wise outside.
Went to pick up our M&S order as requested. Parcel bag says to be collected tomorrow!! Had a reply to our email agreeing they need to do something so hopefully they will.
Nice site Buxton. Used to be our go to weekend place as well Steve. An hour and a half from home but a different world. Walked most of the Peak District. Kept me sane (well almost).
I'm like others, not keen on Brid as a town but plenty for us to do and see in the area. A couple of really nice CLs in the area around Flamborough.

No comments on any town / village / country area excepting only Crewe aka the Tip of the Region
.BUT Brian does have a serious problem for you all to consider
.Topped up w/screen washer bottle with the remnants of my Halfords 5 litre bottle but the washer bottle only half filled. So I went shopping via Halfords this morning and bought another 5 litre / one gallon container which contains fluid with ' Berry ' aroma. Now my problem is :-- who the heck is going to smell the fluid sprayed on my screen when I'm doing a steady 65-70 mph down the M6 / M5 etc ??
Any answers welcomed,
Thank you in anticipation

We had the berry aroma windscreen wash - you will smell it................ Not sure why they need to 'flavour' it?? Ours has all gone now, not sorry!
Line dried my towels this morning 😀 it's raining now 🙁. Chap due anytime to measure up for new side gates, fitting has been put back by a week because of so many rained off days. Ours are doing their job but getting tatty, started this job 18 months ago! Was hoping to paint them to match fence before winter but may have to settle for the standard arrival colour. Chap rang tonsay hes in his way, he lives an the bottom of our road, but stick in traffic on other side of town and our town gridlock when its wet! Hopefully hell be here before dark 😯.
Took Dora for a run on the usual estate, first time since her op 2 weeks ago. She enjoyed it, but I limited it to 20 minutes. She wanted more. Took her to the groomers again to have more off her legs so she smells wonderful and is chilling as it tires her. She has developed a small pea sized lump near her op been there for a week, scar, it has got slightly bigger over the weekend, sent more photos to the vets, who agree. But as no discomfort and all other functions are normal continue to keep an eye on it. If I'm worried they will do physical exam. All checks have been photo and phone call.
My mans arrived 😂

Arrived in Peterborough just after 1pm in the dry, got set up, then a spot of late lunch and you guessed it it's raining
. MillieH will keep a look out for you if we do pop into town/cathedral tomorrow would be nice to see you, yes we are very proud of him. Looks like more rain so a cycle is out of the question.
Francis, we like Whitby to but decided it would be far to busy just now to be comfortable.
Bridlington, we did look at staying at the site there but given it was almost a tenner a night dearer than Scarborough(we like Scarborough) we decided to stay there instead. Brid is I'm afraid like most of the East coast seaside towns a bit past its best. The worst we have visited this year was Cleethorpes. We've been doing the rounds of the places my parents took me to when I was little. As my OH is Scottish he has never had the pleasure of all these wonderful resorts

When we went into Scarborough there was lots of folk in the sea surf boarding, assuming hardy locals, far to much of a whimp to even have a paddle.

WN, hope the bra wasn't to big for you

Nellie, 3 miles down to the beach, all service pitches, I would have said Cruden Bay but there wasn't a commercial site next door when we were there so I must be wrong.

Just been watching Boris, we will have to choose out sites carefully going back up the road. Wouldn't want to fall foul of the restricted travel areas.
Bakers, hope Doras lump goes away without any intervention.
Been watching a very busy squirrel running back and forth across the road, must be collecting food to store, magpies keep following it.

Forgot to say we did go to Flamborough head but it was mobbed, the car park was a quagmire, parking meters only working sporadically, wind trying to take you over the cliffs and horizontal rain. Decided we would leave it for another day.

A lot cooler here today only 15C but at least the washing dried.
Had a ride out yesterday to a local lake a few folk there and the little campsite was still open but nobody on it, a lot of ducks on the lake.
Had bad news this morning our friend's dog passed away at home nearly 16 years old and she was so pleased to see us last Friday evening when we went around for a meal although a bit slower than normal, been through this twice so know what they are going through.
Take care folks and enjoy your breaks for those away.

Spot on, Kjell. We drove down to Gardenstown and walked round to Crovie. Very interesting spots.
Have you stopped here? We're on the "old" CL, which is to become the "new" 6 van commercial site, whereas the new pitches beyond will be the new CL next year. All the pitches on both sites are fully serviced, and each area has it's own elsan point and bins, and there a separate M/H service point on the new CL, too.

TG, Cruden Bay is our next port of call...we head down there on Wednesday. Just hope that the west improves as today has been the wettest we've had this trip. At least yesterday we saw lots of rainbows and some sun whereas today it's been grey skies all the time. Only managed a couple of walks from the van this morning, and still got a bit wet. This afternoon was worse so just a short wander round the dog walk, not that Flyte was complaining too much. Might just get a dry walk in before bed later.

Brue wrote "..memories of a small lump of concrete in our wedding cake! "
That's what you get with a cordon bleu( Blue Circle) chef.

A bit of a soggy drive to Minehead today. Only dried up for the last couple of miles and the A358 is tortuous enough anyway without that. Site pretty busy. Choice of only four pitches upon arrival. They all looked pretty much the same anyway. Supposed to dry up from about mid-day tomorrow so perhaps a lazy full English before sampling the delights(?) of the town.

Ha ha Cy, it was a memorable cake, i think we were given a replacement (can't remember, too far back.) We often wondered about it, still remembered with a smile and thankfully no cracked teeth!
Hope you enjoy Minehead.
Yes it's been wet in Somerset today but looks better as the week progresses. I've booked NT Barrington Court, will have to take it in turns as dog not allowed in the formal bit. Decided to try and book something each week to alleviate any leanings towards cabin fever as winter progresses. Family giving us a fairly wide berth as they are in contact with a lot of people including a whole school of snifflers and coughers.

NTH, that explains it then you're at Gamrie not Cruden

I looked at Gamrie for a visit, sounds like the owners are putting in a lot of effort to the place. Would you say its better suited to the caravan or MH?
We've had rain since lunchtime today, I blame WN

I remember friends staying at Gamrie years ago and we intended to try it, looks greatly improved but will obviously be busier with more vans.
Good to hear about all the places being visited.
I think we'll be back to day trips with the van unless we get a short break on a CL in Cornwall, just on spec.

The week has not started well here. Yesterday I took the Smart For service and MOT, decided to go at the earlier of the 2 times they had "confirmed" and took a book to read and a banana to sustain me should it be a long wait.
There was no explanation as to why we had been sent 2 different time slots, and I was told I could not sit and wait! Fortunately, OH had arranged with DD to rescue me if necessary, to avoid taking a bus, so she came and drove me home.
Just as well as it turned out, as the poor little car has hit too many potholes and has a broken front spring. So that will be another big bill, 2 new springs and tracking etc all to be sorted out, at Mercedes prices. It might be ready later today, whether we should fetch it today is another matter however.
Little Callum was "not himself" yesterday, off his food and had a high temperature before bedtime, so fearing the worst, Mummy booked a test for today and said she thought we and the other grandparents should all self isolate until the results arrive, which might be in 48 hours.
Not ideal as OH is due flu vaccination tomorrow pm, plus car to be picked up.
Apparently Callum is "absolutely fine" today, but has been tested, so not sure what we should do now. We, and the rest of the family, are all fine.

Hope the little one and the rest of you are ok Kjell, 🤞

+ 1 From me also !!
Little Ones tend to be Well or not so well normally, but when they are Proper Poorly they can be poorly indeed !
Thinking that the same might be applied to little Smarties as well, alas.
So very best wishes all round Callum & Co

Glad to be of assistance and welcome to my world.

Fair this morning but not this afternoon. Mrs WN tweaked her back so 2 hours of ironing for me. Why do you women have to buy things will frills and fancy buttons or different materials on the sam garment? Think of the Ironer in future.
It could be me.1 -
Nellie, OH has sent a booking request to Gamrie Bay, they have space, they have sent a photo and asked us to choose a pitch number on the "new CL" and have offered numbers 7,9 or 10.........any advice?
10 seems to be near to a large building of some sort.

Hope the test result for Callum is OK Kj. Our car had it's MOT today, OH could stay for that and took a look under the subframe to see what BMW had done for the very expensive service last week...not a lot apparently. OH and MOT garage not impressed! We never use dealerships for long term services after the warranty finishes but because this is an EV it needs BMW computer work as well as the few mechanical parts.

Well today turned out nice
rain was forecast, glad they got it wrong.Took a trip into town to the Cathedral and met MillieH
nice to put a face to yet another CT member. Did a bit of shopping in town afterwards and then back to the van for a late lunch. This afternoon we got the bikes out and managed a 10 mile ride.
Suggestions for tomorrow welcome.

Site is busy but not full, other side is open but almost empty. Strange thing in the facilities block they have taped off the hand wash sinks
the area is restricted but better than at other sites we have recently been to where they have at least had 1 sink in operation.OH says the urinals have been taped off to.Using our own facilities now as having seen folk walking out without trying to wash hands I really don't fancy using them. Have spoken to site staff but got nowhere so have sent a message to sites team querying why this site has taken this approach.

He seems absolutely fine today brue, we had a long facetime with him just after lunch and he was his usual self. Possibly Mummy panicked when he had the high temperature yesterday! Better safe than sorry however.
I know what you mean about dealership servicing! We took a 4 year deal with the VW dealer for our Touareg, a good deal at £700 for 4 services, but anything else needed we had done elsewhere. Last year it was tyres, this year, next week, new brake discs and pads all round, they will be done at an independent VW specialist for 60% of the dealership quote. We wIll also use them for servicing in future.
The Smart is a bit tricky as there is only one independent Smart specialist in Scotland, which is pretty well out in the sticks on the other side of town, but now our service plan is finished on it too, we will be looking at what this other place offers. We had some work on the brakes done on the Smart at a local garage last year and that was not much of a saving in the end.
With the car also in for the MOT, which it would not pass with a broken spring, we felt we had little choice other than to have them fix it. That is 2 days they have had it now and no word as yet on when it will be ready. Just as well we are not relying on it for transport at the moment!
We do however need it back before the Touareg goes in on Monday, that will apparently need 2 days to complete too.

Tammygirl, it was lovely to meet you and your OH. I can't exactly say that we can put faces to names as we were all wearing masks! It was good to have a chat though. It was a bit quiet today. We have noticed that our visitor numbers have dropped considerably the past 2 weeks. Perhaps people are more wary of going out? We were so busy chatting that I didn't get round to telling you that we have Mary Queen of Scot's original resting place in the Cathedral but I expect you found it. A suggestion for an outing tomorrow would be Fotheringhay Castle where she was executed. The castle doesn't exist any more but you can have a wander round the site and go up the castle mound. There are some good information boards. Fotheringhay is a lovely village and Fotheringhay church is wonderful if that is your sort of thing. There are some nice walks around there as well. It is near to Oundle which is a very interesting old town.
Glad to hear that little Callum is much better today KjNN. I don't suppose it was easy doing the test on a 2 year old. I hope it comes back clear.

I would read it again while I'm there but not got it on Kindle, WN, so I'll have to wait till I get home. That is if I can get away from there after our stay.

The pitches are large so suitable for either, but some do slope so ramps are needed to get level. Some of the roads are narrow and steep down to the coast so perhaps a car would be better to visit them, rather than a M/H.

Kjell, along the top side of the site are a couple of parental barns which are part of a potato store. This week being "potato week" there's a fair bit of activity what with tractors delivering the crop and then large Stobart wagons taking the sorted and cleaned spuds away, but not any bother. The 3 pitches offered are all fine although you would need levelling blocks, but No.10 is the largest. If you put the van in forwards with your moved the view is over open fields. If you want to have the buildings at your back you could ask for pitch 11 or 12, if available. The coastal route from Gardenstown junction towards Pennen and New Arberdour is closed at the moment. If you are coming from the East I'd turn off at the second Gardenstown sign and follow that road for about 4 mls and the site is on your left by the large where and PrawnTrawl building. Hope this helps.
