    Fingers crossed for you DSB.
When we bought our first camper van 10 years ago I really didn’t like the look of this site because of the lack of trees but booked because it’s open all year and it’s very close to home. I was wrong, the location is perfect for us having the dog and the country park surrounding the site.

We love the walk down to the river Irwell and have seen kingfishers on our previous two visits. Will see if we can make it three later.

Very misty start here, trees dripping even at 9am! Most autumnal. Now cleared to blue sky and sun but inky just into the 20's.

Thinking of those travelling in view of new guidelines/instructions. Stay safe folks

Had a very decent drive down from North Berwick to a CL on the Solway firth, our stay for 2 nights. Lovely distant views of Lakeland across the firth. Seems like a decent CL. Just bought some home made Plum chutney and, would you believe it, a small packet of Smiths crisps but minus the blue bag of salt. How many remember them? Haven't seen them for years and years.

Long clear roads through the Pentland Hills on a good weather wise day for travelling.

Really enjoyed our stay at Yellowcraig. Slow homeward bound few days now.

So slow on here, a bit like our journey north today..sunny stop over in Broadway and now Slingsby. Enjoyed the last bit through the arches on the Castle Howard estate, OH not so keen after his previous confrontation with an arch. Took a photo of the castle in Slingsby. Short stop over then a bit more of Yorkshire.

    Reading posts...slowly. wink

    Brue

What is the motorhome parking like at Castle Howard? It's on our list at some point and we would probably stay at Slingsby. There is a site on the Estate but not really walking distance, at least for us!!!

David, there's plenty of room for M/Hs on the car park at Castle Howard, right in front of the entrance to the reception.

We had a cloudier start to the day but the sun came out eventually, although there was an autumnal feel in the air. Took the river walk into Kendal this morning and then climbed up to the castle which has great views all round.

All the units from the rally had gone by the time we got back to our caravan, although the site is again nearly full tonight. This is our last night here before heading a little further north, to just outside Penrith. We would certainly use the site again, but only during the week out of high season, as we like less busy sites even if they are within walking distance of towns.

Well thats it. Just spoken to son in N Ireland and as mixing with other households over there is now not permitted our trip to stay with them next week is now off 😢😩. Also a couple if 'bubbles' in grand-daughters senior school are having to isolate as they have had covid cases and he is worried about us being in contact. I have had a few tears but have known over the last few days that it was inevitable really. Feeling a bit low as havent seen them since last february

Very sorry Millie, everything is on the proverbial knife edge. The one thing is we're all in the same boat. frown

I posted a reply to David about motorhome parking at Castle Howard but the web site shut down mid post! Nellie has replied and I don't think you'll have any problems. The estate looked lovely today and very quiet. Unlike the road to Scarborough which was jammed with day trippers.

Take care one and all. X

OH milliehull I'm so sorry. It sounds sensible but............ I think I know how you feel. Its 30 months since we were with our daughter, SIL and granddaughters in NZ. Anyone's guess when and if that can happen again. 😢😢. I'm beginning to wonder about seeing son and DIL which should be Friday week, they should be on their way to sons last year's birthday present from his wife - a weekend visit to a Kent vineyard - another victim of the situation! Hopefully 3rd time lucky 🤞. We get their dog so means we should see them on 2 days 😀

Brue I really hope you get an outside meet with your family. Likewise to anyone else trying to catch up with family.

After a very misty start yesterday we had a glorious day, but definitely an autumnal feel. I believe we are forecast some desperately needed rain, well showers, on Wednesday. BUT I really don't want to loose these wonderful days, somehow it makes not mixing etc easier. I'm really dreading the coming months. Fingers crossed it won't be as bad as I fear.

About to get up 😱 swift breakfast before meeting a friend's daughter and their dog for a walk, then back for the blind's man to finish tweaking the blinds fitted in May and replace the faulty one, just had a few stitch holes that shouldn't be there! Hopefully that'll be the job completed.

The friend's daughter starts her first fulltime job tomorrow - as an apprentice care assistant in a residential home for adults with learning difficulties - she wants to do mental health nursing eventually. She's a lovely girl and will have a lot to offer and the residents will be lucky to have her.

Enjoy your day folks and stay safe

Today we sat on a bench, in the last of the summer sunshine, outside the fishermen’s reading room at Southwold and ate our freshly-cooked fish and chips.

Never got on here yesterday or most of today so I had to do some work laughing

Millie so sorry to hear you still can't go to see your family in NI, its so upsetting when you have been looking forward to it. Hope you get the chance again before to long.

Yesterday I was at the dentist smile well the hygienist really but while there I was informed that the dentist is now seeing folk for check ups so I  have an appointment for tomorrow smile

Even better news today, we have flu jabs booked at the Dr's for the end of Oct. could have had them in the middle but we might be away so decided to take one at the end of the month instead.

MH now back home and washed, the satellite dish looks good and working fine. Just now need to decide when we next go away, I think the sooner the better before we end up not going anywhere.

Yesterday we had lovey sunshine so managed to get the grass front and back cut and strimmed. The garden still looks good and plants not yet shedding leaves, the whole garden got a tidy up as well.

Think we are going to get some rain later on and then its to be cold until after the weekend.

Lots of cooking and freezing of meals today and the sewing machine is now back on the dining room table as more work to do.

Hope everyone out and about are still enjoying themselves, safe journeys where ever you are going.

Sorry to hear your news Milliehull.  It’s the same for us, and I realise for many others, as we were hoping see our family next weekend.  To be fair when our son advised that we postponed our visit, as much as we’d really love to see them all, my disappointment also included a tiny bit of relief  too as I had been getting jittery, but I’m rather risk averse at the moment.  As for our Hong Kong and Macau families, like Bakers2, heaven knows when we will get to see any of them again!😥. Keep safe everyone.

Sorry to hear that the NI trip is off, millie, but much better safe than sorry. Hope all those that have arrangements for outside family meets are able to carry them out.

What a change in the weather up here. We've moved up to Penrith today and had to have the fog lights on as we drove over Shap, and it's raining at the present😞

Don't rub it in please you scamps  frown  !  Last of the Summer Sunshine indeed     grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr  yell

A certain young weather man on BBC North West ( Owain Wyn Evans by name wink ) has taken great delight in pointing out the fact that it is Autumnal Equinox and that it means the nights are drawing in surprised.

I just thought I'd mention it since the usual chappie doing that is not on here nowadays, sadly.

We have had an amusing, and interesting couple of days.

Monday, I fitted  the new handrail at the guide hall, with some help, had to go to DD's place to make some wooden blocks to complete the fitting.

As we had told little Callum that he was coming to stay in our caravan, on holiday, and he had certainly not forgotten that, he and Mummy came here yesterday, had a socially distanced dinner with us, Callum had a splashy bath, then they retired to the caravan.

OH had turned on heating, we had put out bedding  etc, so they intended to have an early night.   Callum  however was so excited to be in the caravan that he had to press every button, turn every knob, and open every cupboard, so it was 9pm before he conked out,

Apparently he woke a couple of times in the night and was not sure where he was, but Mummy was there to comfort him.  They appeared inside at 8am so we had breakfast then they went home.

Midday he slept 3 hours, so obviously had not slept enough overnight,w

Tomorrow we are childminding, and Mummy and Daddy are out for dinner, so we are on duty then too.

Spent yesterday fitting some additional fixing eyes in the MH garage. I've now got the table, clothes rack and track mats stowed in the roof, freeing up floor space which my OH will doubtless fill up again. Found a bag of dirty washing lurking in there from last weeks trip as well. embarassed

Thank you everyone for your kind messages.

Rocky Thank you so much for your lovely comment. It is such a help.

Brue I do hope to manage to see your family on your NE trip.  At least for now we can still see 1 other household indoors as long as we keep to the Rule of Six.

Bakers2 You and your NZ family were very much in my thoughts on Monday evening as I know how very difficult it must be for you all. I do feel for you. I hope that as we can still meet up indoors in England you will be able to see your son, DIL and grand-dog. It will hopefully give you a lift.

NI son rang again last night and we had a long chat and a good laugh.  He told us some wonderful tales of various characters in their village. There is always a story to tell there! They are planning to get some chickens so we shall see how that goes. I think he is beginning to feel a bit isolated as is older brother and family were planning to go over for half term and have also had to cancel. I realise that we are by no means the only people affected by this.  I have a number of friends with family either in different parts of the UK or abroad and haven't seen their families for a long time. I rang Aer Lingus and was immediately put through to a very helpful man and I have been able to defer our flights (with no penalty charge) for next April to go over for grand-daughter's 13th birthday. We will keep our fingers crossed.

We have had 2 days of glorious weather so made the most of it by doing lots of tidying jobs in the garden and yesterday afternoon I decided all indoor jobs could be put on hold and sat on the swing seat in the sun and read. It is a different story today though - very damp and dull so will have to tackle the ironing.

Tammygirl I am glad you have managed to sort out your flu jabs. I hope all those away are having a good time.

We are booked in for ours mid October. Drive through location, so suspect military personnel will be administering ours. They were brilliant with C19 testing. The added bonus is that they take no nonsense from time wasters and prevaricators so it’s in, out and done. Polite, professional and efficient.

Just had a most productive phone call to Doctor's Surgery smile.

Had to ring them to check who is my Doctor now, 'cos the old one has retired.  logged on to website to find out two more have / are retired so needed to find out 1 } who is my designated doc   2 } when did I last see a doc  ( April 2019 surprised )  and 3 } are they doing flu' jabs this year, please ??  In process of sending out the letters right now !!

All answered by a chirpy receptionist  total time taken, including automated C19 update  was four minutes  --  Not a bad result all round wink.  So now I can fill in the blasted form to renew my driving licence when I've had an updated piccy taken of course .

Ventured into JL in MK today as we needed a new ironing board. Not sure how old the previous one is but its years old. Cause of replacement was that part of the iron stand was broken and Margaret was concerned the iron could fall off. New one lighter which as we are getting older is a bit of bonus!!! It was good to see that the Place to Eat, in JL, had reopened so we treated ourselves to lunch. Speaking to the manager he was saying that from tomorrow they can only do table service which given that the whole place is designed to be self service is going to prove a bit challenging!

Take care that the new, lightweight ironing board is anchored down securely , David ~~  it just could take off with all those quakes / tremors down that way surprised
