What are you all up to

We are at present not allowed any indoor visits, but outdoors we can have 6 from 2 households. We are allowed to be indoors to provide childcare, so on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays we go to our daughter's house, she is working from home, around 10 so I can work on the flooring of the garage loft, which is a very slow job, before we pick up Callum at 1.
Once he is home there is little chance of getting much done!
We will not be visiting our son and family until the local restrictions are relaxed as it is generally far too chilly to sit outside now where they are.
The shops seem pretty well organised, gradually getting busier according to OH, and there is certainly far more traffic now the schools are back.
We have not been to eat out, but then we rarely do eat out when at home. DD and DS have both eaten out and things apparently were well organised and not too busy, but SIL was at the pub with a friend not so long back and said they checked out a few places before they found one they felt OK to enter.
We are booked to start a 4 week tour, heading south, on the 20th, but we are on the verge of cancelling due to the increasing number of cases and the lack of places to visit when away. We have plenty to keep us busy here, so are thinking to stay home and get on with a few jobs.

We have had a lovely last day up here, sunshine most of day, so we booked to look around Chesters Roman Site. Had a heart in mouth moment when we pulled in.....Coach Tour😱 (Unfathomable to us how anyone could think of doing a coach tour at the moment, but hey ho....🤷♀️) They were long gone by the time we had finished lunch and went in on our timed tickets. All outdoors, we didn’t bother with indoor Museum this time, as we have been around before.
Now back on site for our last night, all the awnings are down, I think the wind won that competition😂 It’s been a good little stop, popular with MHs and camper vans. Some seasonal pitches as well, with gravel HS. Some photos.....

We haven't bothered with the awning at our present CL as, whilst not as high as some, it is quite open and exposed and the winds have been strong enough to be glad it's not up. Dry though and sunny mostly.
Talking of which, is exactly the weather we got today. So drove to Saltburn on the coast for a coastal path walk along the Cleveland Way for a few miles and the return on a loop. Didn't tarry in Saltburn, too many people, but a lot quieter as soon as any climbing was involved!
There was a nice sculpture on route and a ruin of a Fan house for the mine below. Very poignant. Mrs WNs father side were originally Tin miners from Cornwall before migrating north for jobs.
TG - Is the site an independent one?
Safe journey home Ttda.

It's a C&CC site WN, lots of walking/cycling paths around in the park next door. Haven't been into it today as we cycled along the canal. Lots of narrow boats up and down. The park is a wetland park so I imagine there is a fair bit of wildlife there.
Lovely sunny day today again, still got the breeze that has been present since we left home almost 2 weeks ago.
Slept well last night, thought I might have an issue with the M42 background hum but didn't ☺️
BBQ out last night and again today, first time this year. We have put up the porch awning as we are here for 6 nights, it's doing well as we've had it for years.
Couple of MH's a few pitches down from us obviously together, kids running around shouting and kicking a ball. Parents sat on grass between, beer and wine flowing. Music started up late afternoon, boom boom boom. OH had a word😒with a bit of luck they will be off tomorrow. Can't understand some folk coming to a place like this and not leaving their pitch.
Bike batteries on charge as we are going for a ride into the park in the morning. Then out in the afternoon to see my nephew and a walk.
Glad to hear everyone enjoying their trips away.

A shame if you have to cancel KJ but understand the reasons, glad to hear you can still help out with the family.
Nice to see the holiday photos from TDA and WN. Lucky people away over the next few days in the warm weather, 25C forecast here.
Have been industrious today and decided to clean books and bookshelves, first bookcase done...several more to go, seriously neglected over quite a long time! OH said if we got rid of the books life would be easier but I don't want to part with them yet. Did have a good clear out a couple of years ago.
Day off tomorrow, no cooking, hooray!

We were at Saltburn a few weeks ago WN when staying at West Ayton. It was late afternoon when we got there so wasn’t too busy we had a nice walk along the pier and sea front area.
Had a nice day today went a drive up to Luss with daughter and granddaughter had a nice walk around the village and then a walk up the hills lovely views it did rain but luckily we were back at the car by that time. Just home now about to open a beer. Plan tomorrow is to get the caravan cleaned out ready for the off later in the week. Collecting the car on Monday.
Nice to read everyone else’s news. I hope B2 is ok I don’t think she has posted on here for a few days

Thanks WN, it’s going to be scenic. Up Allendale, down into Barnard Castle (eye test optional) via Middleton in Teesdale, lunch at Egglestone Abbey, stop off at Farm Shop on A66 if it isn’t too busy, then from Scotch Corner to Wetherby via mostly the old A1, final leg on A1 proper. We’ed normally go over a Moors from Hexham to Stanhope, then onto BC, but it is tiring doing it all in a day, so only doing a bit of Moors this time.
Ten nights away, using four sites (one CL, three private Sites), we have averaged a mere £13.65 per night. Had an absolute ball, cycling, walking, swimming, three castles, two Abbeys, a Roman Site and some of the best scenery UK has to offer. We have enjoyed the varied sites as much as anything....
Bingfield Combe CL, Foulden Hagg (private side), Hexham Racecourse, Low Hedgeley (private)

Lovely weather here today so spent a lot of the day enjoying it on site. We then ventured over to Castle Rising and finished the afternoon in the pub garden where OH enjoyed his first pint for months. When we got back to the site we discovered the mobile pizza oven van had arrived so didnt have to bother cooking on out last evening. Home tomorrow.
Yes WN the excellent cafe at Pensthorpe was open with lots of well spaced outside seating. We saw the lovely and lively red squirels and also the flamingos who were showing off with lots of wing flapping. Sadly the crane hide was closed so we only saw them from a distance.
No nellie we didnt venture as far as the shipwreck this time. I cant believe how the beach has changed. We used to park at the top of the cliffs and walk down the steep steps (now a ramp) and spend the day on a lovely sandy beach. Since then there have been a lot of cliff falls so cannot venture near the cliffs.
Has anyone heard from Bakers2 recently? I hope she and her OH are OK. Similarly we havent heard from Helen and Trevor for a long time. I do hope all is well.

Like wise Millie, hope they are ok.

OH has just cancelled all the 8 sites we had booked, only one night, a Saturday at Kendal showed as fully booked, so a bonus weekend for someone no doubt. Time to start planning for next year now!
Part of the reason for the trip was to visit an old friend in Wales, he will be disappointed to hear we are not coming, but who knows what visiting restrictions may have been in place by the time we were due there.
DD, who was due to accompany us to our first site for a few days, is hoping Callum will forget that he was supposed to be coming to stay in the caravan with us!
We have said that once they are allowed to visit us again they could come here one weekend and he can visit the caravan........they could even sleep in it if they want..........on the driveway.

I can tell it's nearly time to set off again as I resorted to cleaning the house windows and facial boards today!!😁 I did also partially completed an essential job this afternoon, downloading the updated road map for the Volvo's Sat Nav. Just have to upload it into the car now.
Sorry to hear that you've cancelled your trip, Kjell. Hope that you are able to get away next year.
Tda, you certainly have had an adventurous trip, hope our's works out as well, ( and as cheaply 😉).
Must get that walk, at Saltburn, from you some time WN, as I suspect would suit us too.
TG, there are some good footpaths round the wetland park with lots to see.....at least there was when we used the site.
Hope that tomorrow we get some of the blog weather that the rest of you appear to have had today, as it's been rather dull here and raining this evening.

I use this website Nellie. It's free and there are hundreds of walks in it. They are broken down into counties and can range from 1 mile walks to 15 miles plus and everything in between so worth non serious walkers checking it out as well.
The contributions come in all shapes and sizes, some with maps some without, some put up by individuals, some by councils or newspapers. Just choose one that seems to suit and download it.
I didn't bring any books for this area or maps as we weren't supposed to be here but both walks have come from this site with decent maps and descriptions.
I'll email you this particular walk tomorrow though.

And now for something amazing (I think) - a link to a Trail Cam video down our fields.
Sorry, it's on Twitter. It won't harm you!

Brilliant Goldie. Is that the first time they've been spotted? Awesome is right.
Got to sleep about 5 this morning due to strong winds rocking van. Out at 1 am to take down an awning rail guard we use to stop black streaks.
So, washing and jobs this morning, exploring this afternoon.

No, we've seen them (mainly on camera) for at least 10 years now, but often at night in black and white. My son got a new camera for his Birthday (half the price and many times better than the old one!) and was luck enough to get this HD recording. To film them "live" you have to be in the right place at the right time.

We've been down in Cornwall this week and had probably the best week's weather of this truncated summer!

Warm enough for Mrs M to get the wet suit out and venture into the sea for the first time (too cold back in March and too crowded in July & August) - this was Trevaunance Cove this morning - and really pleasant walking on the coast path.
But too hot in the afternoon for the dogs racing across the dunes, a good job they know where all the shady spots are! 🐶👍
Balmy evenings, just right for sitting out with a nice G&T before dinner!

Lovely video Goldie, you are so lucky.
You can go off folks you know M😂 We should have been down there this week. But we have had a good ten days elsewhere. Our drive home was stunning, and very windy. Right over the top of Moors at Allendale, down into Stanhope, and then up Weardale, and across Teesdale. Barnard Castle was busy as we drove through, didn’t stop. Just sat in big car park at Wetherby now, psyching ourselves up for last leg of A1.
Photos of Moors..........

I'd have loved a sea swim this year so I'm envious of the Moulesys too! But won't complain as we've had a good sunny day, managed to sit outside for a very enjoyable pub meal (small family get together with our Cumbrian visitor plus dogs.) Then scones, jam and clotted cream in the garden back at home, slight argument over the last scone...

Hope you get home safely TDA, we'll be ploughing our way up the A1M soon, not enough time to make detours but we'll break the journey in some pleasant spots, hopefully.
Will have to make the best of 26C at home tomorrow...sigh.

Lovely photos moulesy. That sea looks so inviting. What sensible dogs. Lovely photos of the moors TDA. I hope the rest of your journey home went well. I am glad you had a good meal out with your family brue.
We had a good tow home from Sandringham. We were certainly going in the right direction as there were very long queues going the other way towards the coast. We have 2 days of good weather forecast so I will try and enjoy it in the garden. Lots to do out there. I can't believe how much has grown while we have been away! The ironing can wait until later in the week when it turns cooler.

Lovely day here today.
Bit of shopping this morning then back for lunch sitting on the grass outside the caravan.
This afternoon we went to see my nephew, never been to their house before wow what a stunner. Lovely big garden, fruit trees and a small meadow with pond. Had a great afternoon catching up with his wife who we haven't seen in years. Their daughters were also there being home from Uni just now. Eldest one going back soon to do her Master's, while the younger one just starting her course. What a lovely afternoon.
We got another 3 days here so more exploring tomorrow. The water park looks interesting Nellie, also the NR couple of other places to check out as well. Think this is a place we will return to, weather has been a bonus.
TDA, glad you've had a good trip, will check out some of the sites you used as we like that area.
WN safe drive North.

Cheers, WN. Will respond to email tomorrow, as have spent much of the day watching sport on the box and catching up on the bits that I haven't been able to watch. Safe journey up the road tomorrow, and be interested to hear what you think of the site.

Great video, Goldie, you're so lucky have them at the bottom of your garden, as it were!
Looks lovely down in Cornwall, M. Wish we had as good weather up here.....a bit breezy with spits and spots off rain this morning and the sun didn't appear till late afternoon.
Good to hear that you got home safe and sound, millie, and hope that the same applies to you too, tda.
Glad that family visits went well, brue and TG. Sounds as if you both had lovely afternoons.
