We've not had word from our surgery yet, but might just give them a call to see if we can book an appointment before we head off north. If not we won't get ours till mid November at the earliest.

Glad that you have found a good site, tda, and are enjoying your first trip away. Good to hear that the mini meet went well, WN &TG. Sounds If you had a good day out Francis, that's not an area that we are familiar with so a bit of research will be required should we ever visit.

Similar to you, Kjell, I've to take cheddar in for it's service and MOT this coming week. The garage is much too far away from home to try and use the bus to get back, and I'm reluctant to use public transport at the moment anyway, so I'll just wait for it to get done and maybe fit in a walk if the weather is fine. If not at least I can get a few CL reviews written

Not done an awful lot over the last couple of days....completed all jobs on the van, done some gardening and between taking Flyte for his walks, watched the TDF on the box.

I still think that jabs / blood samples would be easier if all surgeries had a series of " Cat~flaps" fitted.

We could phone in on arrival at the due time/date then :-

ABM To flap 5, present left arm !

Thank you ABM  - bloods taken / geriatric flu jab given ~~ results by carrier pigeon !

    Job Done

Well worth a visit Nellie if in the Stirling Glasgow area as I say we had never known about it until today when doing a bit of research for places to visit. We don’t have a dog ourselves but there were some nice walks around the damn and plenty of people with dogs so worth a visit if you are up this way

That was virtually the system our surgery was using, yesterday ABM - but instead of cat flaps it was a series of rooms along the corridor.  Nurse standing at the entrance - wife sent to Room 3 - me to Room 2 (numbers outside the door).  Stand there - give name - needle in - thank you very much - and out.  Took all of about 30 seconds.

Contrast that with last year's experience at our Chemists.  Please come into this room - do you need a chaperone? (pharmacist is female) - have you had a flu jab before - are you allergic to it - do you mind having a needle stuck in you - which arm do you prefer - what is your name, NHS number???? - have you ever had any of these illnesses  etc etc etc.  I know she was only doing her job and covering her back - and she's a lovely person - but for goodness sake, it took about 20 minutes from start to finish!

The difference between a doctors surgery and a chemist is the chemist do not have access to any of your medical records

JVB Are they able to let your GP know that you have had the flu jab so it is put on your medical records?

Millie, I see on NHS England web site that you don't need to inform your GP as the information should go forward.

The drive back over the moors to Stanhope was spectacular with sun shining. Ttda would like it up here on the moor.😁

We know up there quite well! It’s our usual route to Hexham if not in a hurry, or vice versa. The climb up Crawleyside always has us giggling, as our very first little camper needed ‘a rest’ half way up. Beautiful around there. There are interesting old lead mines all over the place.

Glad you had a good meet up TG/WN. Nice to say hello. We had a day around Site here, walking and cycling. Pooch isn’t too good at the moment, so kept him quiet, short walks. OH went for a couple of hours out on his bike, as it’s superb for cycling round here. I sat in lovely sunshine all day, knitting and reading in between walks, then went out on my bike later, dodging all farming traffic. Some huge combines around😱. Walked stubble fields around farm as well, so plenty of exercise. Off out today, possibly a beach somewhere close......

We are surviving nicely off hook up. It’s given us the best pitch on the site, although in truth they are all lovely. Plenty of wildlife around keeping us amused. 😁

Spoke to Manageress at local McColls while collecting  the Sunday Scandals this morning. She was looking forward to a more relaxed day than yesterday turned out to be, 'cos the local surgery ( not the one Brian uses ) had a Mass Flu Jabbing Session and folks were trotting into the shop for recovery goodies in huge numbers apparently wink. Must have been very busy jabbing if they can put such pressure on a corner shop like that !!money-mouth

Blimey, the only Stanhope I ever associated with the North East was a short dumpy secret booze drinker of a female detective called Vera !! Now was the character named after the place, or the place named after her I wonder undecided

Light mizzly type of rain when we got up. An hour later after sorting ourselves out it was the same. B****r it we said. Put bikes on back of car and set off.

6 hours, 2 sore bums, and myraid new bruises later we limped home.🤕 But were we happy? Yep.The second half of the ride was dry so that was something.

Bikes cleaned, normal jobs outside of caravan done, a shower and a glass of red, after sausage ciabatta and brown sauce butties for tea, later we are pleasantly pooped.

Gorgeous here today. Beach for us. Berwick was very busy when we drove through, but beach was deserted, so a lovely afternoon.

Got a phone call from Wardens at Marazion last night at 8pm, where were we? Scotland was the reply. 🤣 Some of you may recall that I rang Marazion Site a couple of weeks ago to check our booking wasn’t live any more, and to make sure they knew we wouldn’t be turning up. It all got sorted amicably though, just a glitch in our renewal.

WN, we are having fun dodging HUGE monster sized combines out on bikes up here. Some are actually tracked, and need two lanes of the road. I have managed to avoid getting stuffed into a hedge so far, but came close last night😱

Couldn't believe Covid new case figures out tonight. Bad news☹️

Looks as if we are going the same way as France and Spain, just glad that the deaths are still low, and that we're not in the same league as India, Brazil and the USA, tda. Good to hear that you're chafing a fine time, but sorry that the pooch is not too grand.

Thanks Francis for the info. We may well give replace a visit sometime, but not on our forthcoming trip to Scotland, as our sites are too far away. Glad to hear that you made it home safe and sound. Where are you staying while in the Lakes? We think that the Fire coast is a hidden gem, with some fine small fishing villages, castles and fine sands.

I think that you both deserve a rest tomorrow, after today's exertions, WN.

Ttda, just after 8 this morning we had about 20 tractors drive past site. As all local shows seem to be cancelled I wondered where they headed. 4pm tonight on our way home from Consett on the A68 we found them all heading homewards causing mayhem. Still don't know where they were going.undecided

Yes the number of new cases very worrying but not unsurprising. Passing the local Working Mans Institute this morning we saw an elderly man standing outside greet someone with a hearty handshake and then bump elbows and laugh about it. A lot of people have become blasé about it all.

It's busy in the countryside now, you will get held up by machinery on the move. The maize harvest will be next! 😈

We were on the M5 yesterday can't remember seeing so many vans on the move at this time of the year.

Had a nice outdoor visit with my sister and nephew's family. We managed to dodge the showers. 🌦

It’s blowing a proper gale here this morning. Straight down the Tweed Valley. Pooch is doing fine, so vet visit postponed for the moment🙄

Scenic drive and then a stroll for us, probably ending with a fish and chip supper from Eyemouth. Thinning out here on site tonight, we might even get a hook up😂

Managed to get the awning down about 6pm yesterday, everytime we thought it was dry enough to come down we had another shower yell

Very heavy rain from 7am this morning but by the time we had finished  breakfast it was dry, so pack up the van and set off for Mablethorpe. Had a decent rundown bit early so stopped for a leg stretch.

Seems a nice enough site, we couldn't get 4 nights on one pitch so having to move after 2 nights,  currently on grass, then move to H/S. The site managers tried to to work it for us but couldn't, never mind. There are still a number of empty H/S left at the mo so might be some no showssurprised

Weather was good enough to sit outside when we arrived but its gone chilly and a bit of mizzle now so back in the van.

Hopefully out on the bikes tomorrow.

Glad your are having a nice trip away TG

Been a miserable day here today wet and windy feels like winter. Bit of a problem with the Volvo when we were leaving Morrison’s earlier the electric handbrake warning linger came on indicating a fault so took it to our local garage who say they can put it on the diagnostics machine tomorrow but won’t be able to do the job whatever it may be until next Tuesday and we are due for the off next Thursday for 5 nights in the van so it’s going to be tight I’m hoping it’s just a sticky calliper or something simple like that that can be done in a day so it doesn’t disrupt our break down to the Lakes. There is always something isn’t there.

Good luck with the car Francis. It's probably complaining about the number of times you are making it pull that caravan.laughing

It carried on raining hard off and (mostly) on well into the morning TG. Enjoy the bikes. We'll be back in the saddles tomorrow.

Mostly jobs day today but we did have a gentle 3 mile stroll from site, mid afternoon, alongside the river rhat runs behind the site. Saw a flying blue bullet (Kingfisher) which certainly brightened the walk.

It's rained on and off here too, but did manage our walks without getting wet. Had my visit to the dentist this afternoon, and all went well. Filling replaced, general checkup done and a clean and polish too. In and out in about 20 mins.

Hope you get the car sorted out before your trip to the Lakes, Francis.

WN you may be right the caravan hasn’t spent much time on the drive over the past couple of months. It’s going to the garage in the morning to be put in the diagnostics machine hoping it’s not a big job we spent £1800 on it just before we went away for our months break in July.

I think we must be very lucky at moment with our weather. Bit of rain yesterday, early morning, but yesterday was lovely, and we have dry bright skies again this morning. So beach today for us.

Thought we better sort out our last couple of Sites for heading back South and two phone calls to our first two choices got us exactly what we needed. Two nights at Low Hedgeley, followed by two nights at Hexham Racecourse. Sorted😁 Really surprised, as it’s super busy out here up in Northumberland.

Re-booked our flu jabs on our complicated surgery phone line, it was indeed a press button 7 event but I was surprised to be the only one in the queue...maybe because no-one knows what's going on?! Cancelled Boots appointment for October and can now get jabs done next week before we go away.

Phoned elderly neighbours to explain how to do it but they have memory problems now so I'm just hoping they did it straight away...undecided

Hoping our van gets sorted this week, so good luck with your car Francis we're cutting it a bit short for our trip north. We're doing a loop via N Yorks, Northumberland and the Lakes...getting quite used to this circuit to see the family!

There has actually been some good news in that front. We were going to put it in to the local garage but they said they wouldn’t be able to do any work on it until next Tuesday so we decided to call the Volvo specialist in Glasgow that we have used before they are very good and know the car inside out. Called them this morning and they can take it in on Friday so that gives us almost a week for an work to be done hopefully just a small job and we have it back for the weekend but more optimistic about having it back in time for the Lakes trip next week. Fingers crossed. Hope you get the van back in time for your trip

Margaret had to take a full sharps box into the surgery yesterday so she took the opportunity to ask about flu jabs. She was told to try again in October as they didn't have a firm date on when they were getting supplies or how much they were getting. I suppose the hope to immunise  more people this year will interfere and make it different from previous years?

    Brian

No knowledge of it until I saw it on the news. I do remember on one occasion there was one in the Midlands and my computer monitor started to shake. We were also in an after shock to one of the big Italian earthquakes a few years back and that was pretty scary!  You are momentarily transfixed and seem pretty useless!!!

I am surprised we didn't feel the Leighton Buzzard earthquake as we are only 15 miles away!
