Back in the tropics of Abbotsbury today, making up for missed trip to Trebah. A lot busier than previously (in the cafe area!) But gardens uncrowded. We went on to West Bay which was packed with visitors, took a look at the crowds and headed for home. smile

Woke up to a beautiful morning and view whilst having breakfast. A slow pack and off just after 10.15 for a stress free trip up the A1 and inland to follow the River Wear to a private site. We managed to coincide our arrival with the start of the rain.😀

Only 3 on site at present but due to be full at weekend.😠 Mind you there are less than 20 pitches.

Weather seems set fair from tomorrow for a week so we'll work out whether we want a bike ride or walk tomorrow over a glass of red.

I wonder how the oven caught fire if they weren't in? Have to get our on site investigative reporter onto the job.😊

    Glad you got sorted Ttda.

Oh yes, some lovely smelly, green water there Boss !  Now if I can just slip out of this collar, I'll not need to roll in anything else  smelly for ages.innocent

And there appears to be a couple of hounds following a fox, if they catch up I bet the owl will think it's a right hoot  laughing

Good to hear that those on the road today have reached their respective destinations, just a pity about the weather, and also that you got fixed up, tda.

.uk experience with dentist is different to those mentioned on here. A filling came out late this afternoon, and I immediately phoned our dentist at 5:00 pm. Was able to get an appointment for 2:15 on Monday, so very pleased. If the tooth needs drilling I will require more than 1 visit, but hopefully they will be able to arrange that before we head off again towards the end on the month.

We managed a couple of dry walks this morning but it has rained steadily since then, at times quite heavily too. I did get rather damp during our afternoon walk!😟

Got back yesterday from our first foray in the Carthago. So far so good although the Truma provided the trauma until I got the hang of it. Bit of tidying up at home and then for some serious touring in between doctors, dentist and opticians.

WN, glad you got away ok and that the site is good.

Not sure but could it have been an electric hot plate?

CY, glad to hear you are getting to grips with the new MH and looking forward to more trips away. Such a shame you can't try it out in anger across the water.

Rain seems to have stopped now, wind dropped to.

    NTH, good service from dentist.

TG that must have been a sobering sight to see a caravan burnt out.frown

You mentioned flu jabs (jags of the border wink) we can start to book ours on Sept 7th but I'm wondering why we've been told we  have to press no 7 when we call the surgery. Whether we have to listen to six other commands...eg press 1 if you feel ill, press 2 if you feel really ill, press 3 if you can't remember why you pressed 1 & 2.....7 seems like a lot of recorded listening!

Brue, you are right it is a sobering sight. It's the first thing you see as you drive through the gate. The caravan is on the front row all taped off. I guess they are waiting for the insurance people to see it before it can be moved.

Had a close look at it, still not clear where the seat of the fire was. The cooker and fridge cabinets are pretty intact, burnt but still standing. The caravan was a side island bed, which looks to be all burnt out as was the front seats. Pretty awful when you see it close up.

Lovely sunny day today, very windy but warm enough to sit outside of out of the wind. Had a nice cycle ride out this afternoon all along the sea front. Of course we had to stop for an ice cream on the way back.😀

Off to Barnard Castle tomorrow, then a meet up with the WN,'s on Saturday afternoon. Weather looks to be fine for the next few days.

Caravan window all sorted at dealer's expense laughing. We picked it up this afternoon.  Now to get sorted out for going away on Sunday.

What absolutely terrible news about the caravan fire TG.  It doesn't bear thinking about. Fire is one of my greatest fears. Those poor people must be devastated.

A day of all types of weather today, from drizzle, rain, glorious hot sunshine, and now gusty winds and dark clouds.

Had a large breakfast in Keswick then a full walk around Derwent water.

    Opted for a walk today.

Drove to Stanhope, a small town up the Weardale valley. Lovely little place with a smashing castle, now converted into housing and an old church reputed to have had Saxon roots with a Norman tower built on it. Unfortunately it was closed today. However there is a really interesting Fossilised tree trunk in the grounds. It's only about 320 million years old. It may have been climbed by a few of our members in their youth.😙 Photo enclosed. Apparently it was then filled in by river sand which solidified when exposed to air and was found in a nearby quarry and moved to the church.

Anyway the walk went well alongside the River Wear. Home for lunch then a visit to Low Barns Nature reserve (Durham WT). Enjoyable few hours.

Cycling tomorrow then a walk Saturday before meeting up with Tammy and her OH later on. I foolishly offered them a drink.😱

ps Already had my first Germolene moment of the holiday!🤕

Millie, well done with the window. Enjoy the trip next week. I was going to say "break" but thought better of it.

CS, I think the view down Derwentwater to Skiddaw and Blencathra, especially from Kings How is one the best I have ever come across. I've informed Mrs.WN that she has to stay fit as that is where I want my ashes scattered. She told me she'd hire someone to do it. Last I heard there were rather too many applicants.😀😱

I thought my mother was rather canny having my middle name sponsored by Elastoplast.🤕

As you say, milliehull ( full title today  wink ) Fire is awful, so much so that I often think that every site should have at least large display photographs just to ram the warnings home !!

Should we all have an 'Emergency Escape' bag containing keys, cash, cards, basic clothes handily placed by the door perhaps undecided??

You could be dropped off just up from Stanhope at Parkhead station which is then the start of the Waskerley way cycle route which is really downhill all the way to Sunderland along the old Stanhope and Tyne dock railway.

Glad to hear you're having a good time in my back yard. Shame we're away or we could cycle along

    Where are you cycling tomorrow?

ABM. If you saw all the  Covid19 notices on sites at the moment I think a caravan fire photo might just about put the kaibosh on the holiday! wink

Sounds as though some holidays are going well. smile

Good to hear you had the window fixed Millie!

Another day another dog...two nights bed and board for visiting dog and then hopefully a visit to my sister at the weekend. Both of our daughters have gone back to work this week, both working with lots of youngsters, (senior school and agricultural college) they've got over the initial apprehension so I just hope things continue to be ok.

That's a strange second name WN,  I thought it might be more "uplifting" like "stretcher." tongue-out

We're driving to the car park near Consett to cycle back up the Waskerly Way so it's downhill on the return, hopefully with the wind behind.

Not seen any notices on sites, Brue, cos I've no intention of going 'camping'  yet --  there's too many folks not playing this verdammt game nicely ! I'll give it at least another fortnight before I start to look for my Christmas Shopping Sites  surprised

I suppose I could start looking for a nice, warm & friendly kennel, tho'undecided

And with that thought I'll wish you all a happy and peaceful " Good Night  "

A good route, done all those cycle routes and probably the Derwent valley to South of Newcastle  from Consett is prettier and more interesting with lots of old railway stations (check out the unsolved murder at lintz green) but you'll enjoy the viaduct. Consett has a good car park too. The town has changed out of all recognition since I first went there in the early 80s as the steel works were still there. Now it's a lovely rural town with lots of new housing.

If you have time go to Blanchland.

We arrived on site here at 1 and there were 7 vans in front of us so had to que to get in seems everyone has the same idea of getting to the site on the button. Bit damp but warm not much planned tonight just a few drinks in the van and watch the TV hoping to get out a cycle in the morning so long as it isn’t raining. Here 2 nights then home. We have just spend a wonderful 4 nights at Balbirnie CC site first time for us there but very impressed we enjoyed it and was nice to go to Anstruther St Andrews etc.

Mrs C kindly dropped two of us off at Lanthwaite Green where we went up Whiteside then along to Wandope, Eel Crag, Sail, then down the mine road to Newlands.

A gusty windy day but warmish. Photo shows the top of Eel Crag with Sail in front.

Ventured forth this very day, Brue to look at some houses smile    No no no not for me, the bug-house on the protected end of my workshop (shed !!) is shewing signs of age, either that or there's some big bolshie bugs around this year surprised, so I ended up battering my way thro the neighbours bushes in order to firmly fix the new one in place. Also took an hour or so to treat the rotting timber window surrounds to a coating of wood hardener, with black rubberised sealant to follow on the next warm, dry dayinnocent -- proper little angel today  !

    P.S.  / Edit

Forgot to say it must be warm n dry 'cos it means there will be a pile of wood, tools, work bench etc to be removed so that I can get to the inside of the windows -- no point in grafting away on the outside if the glass can just drop into the goodies stored there now is there ??
