Battening down the hatches, stormy night here hoping it will have gone by tomorrow for a day out.
Picked lots of damsons yesterday, put a box out for passers by, left with an empty soggy box so someone must have wanted some. Did slightly better than a neighbour who put a crate of apples out, the crate was taken and the apples left behind...
Wondering how daughter and partner are getting on in windswept W Penwith, a lone caravan in an exposed field (borrowed from a relative.)
Hope this weather passes soon!

Bad night Bakers? Best wishes for a reversal of your luck.
Coffee break after cleaning the caravan. Of course to start with it was just a tickle, a wipe here and there but obviously that doesn't cut the mustard and you end up getting everything out. Ladders, sponges, hose reel, black streak removers. Still, keeps me out of mischief.
Ladies taken themselves off to get some trousers for MiL. She's down to her last dozen.
Off to do the car in a minute or so. Breezy out there but warm when the sun comes out. Take care one and all.

Spent a most productive hour after breakfast this morning checking thro' my kindle library for a decent long series to help fill my last hour or so before sleeping at nights. Rediscovered the " Chronicles of Thomas Covenant " series
, so lined them all up in correct order, checked carefully and, and, and only woke up when neighbour started power-trimming the hedges
.
That's three ( 3 ) days now when I should have been shopping for a much loved variety of North Walian {??} cheese and not a crumb bought
. Woe, woe, oh woe is me

Nice bright day as expected so we managed a late morning visit to NT Montacute again. This time the cafe and shop had been opened up, so we shared a sandwich and a large cheese scone in the courtyard. As we finished our lunch and walk it started to feel very busy so I think we got the timing right.
And now for more storms tonight, we've got big Cornish Palms around our home and it sounds a bit tropical!
Another photo or two of Montacute. The local stonemasons did a wonderful job with the hamstone all those years ago. Just behind the first photo, right hand is a glimpse of Mons Acutus, where the village got it's name, all part of the ancient Ham Hill network. You'll be relieved to hear the history lesson ends here! 🐶

Rising three (3) hours since my latest posting and I went out for the CHEESES !! Circumnavigated the Roadworks on the A530, travelled some of Cheshire's finest back lanes and got to the designated Garden Centre only to discover that the " Cheese Fridge " is O.O.O. and the Sales 'junior' could only find the very last two " Black Bombers" until it is repaired and then restocked. Don't think they are members of CAMC or they would surely have E-mailed me.
. Still I spent the rest of a £20 note buying Bird Food Suet Blocks ~~ not as tasty but great fun to watch the tweets feeding
.
Not sure if I needed to find those sleep-inducing books 'cos the World Geriatrics { Seniors actually } Snooker is taking place live ( barely ) on BBC 2 and they want me to buy a licence ?? REALLY ?? The mind Boggles

Love Montacute Brue, always an interesting visit.
Been a beautiful if slightly breezy day here. I have had Mum most of day, so took her for a park walk, she did really well considering she hasn’t been out and about much in lockdown. Then plonked her in front of Talking Pictures TV (Burt Lancaster hamming it up as an Apache😂) That kept her safe and occupied dog watching while OH and I set too and sorted out Mushroom vent on MH roof. I was merely a foot on the ladder and a bit of “it’ll work ok” support, and happy to report all went well. Bit more involved, as inside of vent was hidden under interior roof lining (it’s probably there for if MH had been designed with an over cab bed, which it hasn’t got), but is all back in place now, looking good as new. Dread to think what it would have cost to have it done at a service place, all it cost us was a few pounds for the vent and a bit of sealant.
AD, have you seen Portugal is off the quarantine list?

When FiL was with us at home with his Dementia before going into a care home we used to seek out Westerns or Sea Epics from his era and he used to love them, along with any slapstick, usually Laurel and Hardy or even Compo and I used to worry that we were demeaning him sitting him in front of a TV. However I soon came to realise that a) He was happy and b) The 2 people who loved him most were glad to see him enjoying something and see something of the person who was slipping away from them.
So who was I to moralise? I'm no expert in these matters and no-one gives you any training so do whatever makes all main parties happy.
Glad the DIY went well Ttda.

WN,
In those circumstances I would recall the tale John Suchet, News reader used to tell. He always got very upset when leaving the Care Home that his ailing wife was living in. Until, that is, one of the staff arriving for duty saw him & realised how very upset he had become.
She took him on one side & pointed out that Mrs Suchet no longer knew who or what he was, just that a very pleasant gentle man came and sat with her, brought her nice things and talked with her until it was time for her nap. Why should he be upset when Mrs S had such a lovely opinion of him ? Just ensure that both of you were smiling when you leave

Lovely photos brue. It looks a beautiful place.
I heartly endorse your sentiments about letting people with dementia do whatever makes them happy WN. My lovely Mum had dementia and Dad (and I when she was with us) encouraged her to watch whatever we could see made her happy. That to us was the most important thing. I hope your MIL managed to replenish her trouser wardrobe.
What a difference a day makes. Yesterday was non stop rain from mid morning until after we went to bed. Today has been wall to wall sunshine. I had a meeting (the first for months) this morning - I am a trustee of our local adult education college - isnt modern technology wonderful. Everyone at home! This afternoon I sat in the garden as there might not be many more opportunities. We need to have a good tidy up and clear out over the weekend providing we are not blown away.
I hope you are OK Bakers2.

Smashing photos brue, another of our favourite NT properties.
Well done that repair person(s).😉and
As with you millie, we too have had a very different day weatherwise. Maybe not quite wall to wall sunshine but plenty of it, with a strong, warm breeze at times. Went over to Attingham Park and had a long wander around the estate. We were surprised at the number of people there, the car park was nearly full when we left about 2:00.

Glad to hear that your MIL is going to be well attired WN 😄
Pleased you had a good day nellie. Hope you survive the forecast windy weather.

Thank you Brue.
We thought we would try Shell beach yesterday..... couldn't get anywhere near. Tried Knoll, Studland Middle and Studland South..... all the same. Just wondering what to do and we saw the signpost to Arne, and remembered Brue's recommendation. It was quite a long drive down what was virtually a single track lane. Eventually we reached the RSPB car park. Plenty of people around to help and advise. As I do suffer with arthritis, (as a result of a longstanding condition called Acromegaly.... another story!!), they gave us a ticket allowing us to drive to the disabled parking.
It was still a really long walk (for me), but what a glorious place. Managed to get up to the viewpoint (Shipstal Hill) with excellent views all around... across to Poole, the Studland/ Sandbanks ferry in the distance, and excellent views on all the islands in the Frome estuary - Brownsea, Furzey, Green Islands etc), and a view down to the little estuary beach - Shipstal beach.
We didn't make it down to the beach, but it looked wonderful. What an excellent find! We will definitely return someday, and I will psych myself up for the walk....

Well done you David for taking it on! The views are truly beautiful across the water and worth the effort. We like seeing the deer, wonder if you saw any?
When I was there last time I visited the little church at Arne, looking up some Dorset family history.
What a stormy night, hope everyone affected managed to hang on to the tent poles.

......fortunately, when we got back yesterday, we packed everything away in the knowledge that last night was going to be very windy. It feels very strange having everything packed away, and yet one more night here at Hunter's Moon, before we move up to Cheltenham on Ssturday, for the last leg of our 6 week summer jaunt!!

Yesterday we came home from our 10 night stay at New England Bay. It was a bit different from our usual annual visit there - completely full. We usually go June/July, but I suspect it was the new campers making up the numbers. There were no problems though. It's a sprawly site so never seems overcrowded. We parked up in front of some scrawny trees, under which we sheltered in the blazing sun of the first week. And which protected us a bit during the raging storms of the last night.
There were several groups of families with children, all enjoying the beach and what looked like very cold sea. We didn't use the facility blocks so can't comment.
We did our bit for the local economy by enjoying an amazing afternoon tea, luscious lunch (both full price) and a chancellors's special at a fish restaurant.
We took enough food for the full stay, apart from milk and bread. So had to venture into Lidl - my first step inside a shop since lockdown. I didn't enjoy the experience and won't be repeating just yet. I had taken some bread mixes, so sat in the sun kneading and then baking buns.
The places we ate were very organised - just a few tables in each corner of the room and staff with masks or visors.
I'm now catching up with farm admin - it's amazing how much has accumulated in 10 days.
P.S.
The site WiFi was just about OK, but tailed off during the day. I just used it to check emails etc. EE 4g was very good (until the last day) so we could use my phone as a Hotspot and tether to my Ipad. The television reception was very hit and miss - maybe our location, or the age of the television. For light relief on damp evenings we watched episodes of Silent Witness via Iplayer on my Ipad.
Now, back to reality!

Didn’t have a good day yesterday, despite being away and also celebrating Ros’s birthday. My GP rang with the results of the MRI scan I had on my knee, last week and it turns out I have an aneurysm in the artery going to my knee. She is referring me to a vascular surgeon😕 Plus she thinks I might have rheumatoid arthritis. Oh, the joys of getting old - still, it’s better than the alternative!😀
At least it makes me feel a bit better about shelling out all that dosh to have the E&P levelling system fitted to the van so that I don’t have to kneel down to fit the wheel locks😀

Welcome Home Goldie !!
Glad you enjoyed your break, meals out etc !! As for the trip to Lidl -- I got a shock in Crewe t'other day when I found out that, masks apart, ASDA is back to pre C19 opening routine ~~ no segregated entrance / exits, trolley & hand sanitiser available if you look for them, and no real queueing system , just find the check-out operator you like, wink and join the crush !!
David, DSB nice to hear you are enjoying yourself but I have one question please? I notice in your first photo there was a little figure taking a dip
Nobody I know I trust

R&S, not the best news to receive on holiday but sounds like your GP has you on the radar. As you say your investment in a levelling system will be worth it.
Glad you had a good break Goldie, I expect all those families on the site enjoyed their holidays too, there is a sense of relief in getting away at the moment!
ABM avoid ASDA!!
AD...get a ticket for an aeroplane!

Very Confused wrt supermarkets and the carparks, Brue -- ASDA in Crewe has a Cheshire East Council carpark but thro' the lockdown they started off free, then about a month ago only accepting phone app or contactless fees and the trollies were loose and free as well. Went in t'other day as I said and council had surrendered and restored the real money charges, then I found the trolley charge was back so I had to walk back to the motor and pick up a token. Definitely trying to get us all up to 10000 steps per day I reckon
. Suppose I could always use Tesco or Morrisons in Crewe or Sainsbury in Nantwich or even go to Sandbach to check on David K's fave i.e. Waitrose ( giggles are permitted at this point I hope )

What a difference 10 miles make, on Wednesday morning we left home to drive to Inverness. The weather was dull and grey like we'd had for days, got to Dunkeld and the clouds broke up and the sky cleared. The rest of the drive was made in lovely sunshine, 10 miles off Inverness back to grey skies again.
Yesterday we took the MH off site and drove along the Moray coast, stopping off in Nairn, where where we had a lovely walk along the beach, I had my first paddle of the year, then a sit down for awhile watching the world go by. Sun getting hotter we drove into Findhorn where we got parked up close to the beach and had lunch. Then on again to a forestry site Roseisle where we got the bikes off for a great ride through the Forrest trails. Finally getting back to the site at 18.00 after stopping off at Lidl for milk. What a great day.☺️
Today we caught the bus into Inverness and had a nice walk along the river then crossed over and walked back the other side. Stopped off for a coffee/tea before the bus back. Rain started on our return.
Off to Rosemarkie tomorrow. ☺️

Thanks ABM - will pass on your kind wishes. Sitting here at Thornthorpe CS, near Malton, wishing that this wind would abate. Blowing an absolute hooley here at the moment and the rain is lashing down - but - in the distance there is a glimmer of blue sky!😎
We were joined, yesterday by another couple who have just bought a Starclass 695 - the same as ours - so it looks a bit like a Knaus rally here at the moment 😀

Richard, quite a few years ago we bought a Coachman Amara at the Lawns show. A couple were also admiring the model at that show and we got talking to them. Roll forward several months and we pitched up at a CL in Holt, Norfolk. Who should pitch up the following day but the couple from the Lawns in their new Amara.
Happy you know what to Ros and yes age is a bugger but you can't do anything about it.
A youngish couple from the village have just set sail to the West coast of Wales for a weekend camping trip! I kid you not.
Anyway, a boring day of a trip to the tip followed by one to town to pick up some library books and home to avoid the squally showers and 50 mph winds. Hope those towing including DSB took things easy.

We arrived on site just before 5 easy hours tow from home was windy last night but it had died down by the time we set off so no problems. Site busy but the sun has came out so might get to sit outside for a while. Seems we have a problem with our oven looks like the gas isn’t getting through properly cooked but takes ages. Will need to have a look see if there is a blockage somewhere.
Hope everyone else has a nice weekend
