What are you all up to

No, but we are considering it for September.
Still undecided whether to head north or south. Have invited DD and Callum to join us for the first few days, so will depend on what she decides, and where would be a good first stop with space for a 2 year old to play and maybe a beach or park nearby. We are invited to their place on Friday for brunch, so will discuss then
Miserable wet day here now, waiting to hear that our woodstain has arrived and will then need to fetch it. We also have a meeting at the Guide Hall this evening with a joiner, to supply keys and instructions, so hope it will not be wet then.
Still no word from our prospective painter, OH is worried that the height to the apex of our roof on the west side has put him off! Our alternative option is to get all the wood of the fascias and soffits replaced with that uPVC stuff.

We had a lovely day out yesterday. Took the Jeep rather than the MH. First stop for a dog walk was one of our old horse stomping grounds, a monument called Keppel’s Column, it was the finishing post for our race across the heath in past times, with added advantage of being able to circle the monument if we couldn’t pull the nags up quick enough😂 It’s one of the Fitzwilliam Wentworth Monuments, visible from Wentworth Woodhouse itself. The House is still shrouded while roof is being conserved. Then it was off up into Yorkshire hills, via a nice ice cream dairy. We meandered all over around Holmfirth area (never seen Holmfirth so quiet, usually heaving this time of year) took a small B road out into hills and found a lovely reservoir walk near Holme Moss. Just ok for pooch to amble down to water for a swim and back. Nice picnic in quarry car park which is full of heather and wildflowers, then a drive up to Holme Moss Beacon. Views are magnificent from up there, we could see right up to Dales, the White Horse at Kilburn, across towards Humber. Drive across to come out near Crowden on the Woodhead road is beautiful. There wasn’t a deal of traffic on Woodhead itself until we got closer home towards Sheffield. Hard to believe there’s a railway line along there... A nice day. Despite the lowering clouds, it stayed dry and we had some nice sunny spells. We did have to put roof back on Jeep though, it was quite chilly under the thick cloud🥶 Better off the Moor tops.😁

That is exactly what we did about two years ago because after 40 years the hardwood soffits were showing their age. We used the same company that a few years before had replaced all our windows and since them have done even more work for us. It's not a cheap option as you have the factor in the hire of scaffolding. We were very pleased with ours but our neighbour, using a different firm was not. It pays to go through in detail with them how they are going to do the job particularly the direction any panels. That was the issue next door as they went in two directions which caused annoyance!!!

Yes, it would be very expensive as we have long lengths of fascia and soffits as the house is L shaped.
OH just got a text from the painter, he will be able to start work on August 13th, weather permitting, and it will take 2-3 days as some areas will need 2 coats. I thought his price was very reasonable......£390 for his labour......OH said it was more than reasonable! We provide the materials.
That should last us another 5-6 years, depending on the elements.
Still raining here, so no chance of doing anything outside today.

With the cloure and still partial closure of the council "tips! people have been leaving alsorts outside ,and there has been a marked increase of white Ford Transit "tipper" high side type vehicles "cruising" the nothing stay outside long in this area

Miserable wet day today so more time at the sewing machine.
This time to make a cover for the tv in the van, I've made it with a padded bit that goes next to the screen, then a pocket with a piece of thin mdf in it to protect it from anything bumping the screen.
Phone call to the garage we bought my Kia Picanto, we have a high pitched whine at 48 mph in 4th gear. Dealer says not a problem bring it in and we will get it looked at. They can have for the week as we are going away.
Went up to Toyota garage to collect OH's car that was in for its big service. Wallet now empty

TV saga with Currys/PC World now resolved, managed to get through to their call line and spoke to a very helpful and efficient member of staff. All sorted out, full refund has been issued and a certain Store Manager has had a 'talking to' just got to take tv in tomorrow.
Ironing being done by OH at the mo then I'll get mine done. Food shopping tomorrow then van to repack for our next trip away.

Kj if it was me I'd head South come September, always an iffy month in Scotland weather wise. Maybe a couple of days first in Ayr with DD and Callum then head South.

That sounded like a smasher of a day, Ttda.

We had a lazy morning before meeting up with my cousin and her husband for lunch at a pub. Wow. Almost like olden times.
Except no-one ever pointed a temperature gun at my forehead before letting me in.
The establishment's precautions were exemplary and all 4 of us felt relaxed about matters. All tables set far enough apart, all staff on song about procedures and an excellent meal as well. They left us at the table for a 2 hour blether, which was also gratifying.Got back to the CL and put our boots on to walk to Delamere from site, just over 2 and a half miles away. Had a nice ice cream at the station before returning.

Mixed couple of days, work as usual, video call with son who should have been in the USA on a planned visit to his girlfriend's family, but is obviously still at home
. My bottle of Gin arrived from the Whitby Distillery, came with a hand written Thank you note, a nice gesture.
Had an email from the owner's of a CL we use, they have decided that they are going to close their CL, sad news, another loss to the CL network

OH picked up the caravan from storage this afternoon, ready for a weekend away from Friday. Discovered that the carbon monoxide detector had fallen off the ceiling
so it was a quick repair job. Glad you enjoyed Dunham Massey Wherenext, hope you are enjoying your trip.
Ttda sounds like you had a lovely day out.
Tammygirl safe trip, enjoy your few days away.

Glad you got your TV sorted TG. Sometimes the monkeys need a clout from the organ grinder!😂
Good to hear folks have got plans, or enjoying themselves currently. We are happy around home still at the moment, little projects coming along. OH has been busy working on MG. He’s been sorting out bits of rust around headlights, and it’s looking good. I have had a cleaning day, which is never interesting, but it needed doing. Up to Mum’s tomorrow, so I shall probably take her for a ride out somewhere. Forecast is for rain tomorrow though. ☹️

Thanks TG. If we decided to give it a visit I'll pop it up on Google maps to see what's what.

That sounds a great day out yesterday, tda. Must get to see that and the other monuments at WW sometime.
Agree with WN about of the loss of yet another CL. Please let me know which it is as Maddie hasn't been putting up the list of closures lately.
Miserable day weather wise here although didn't get too wet when we were out walking. Had to take OH to the doctor's this afternoon for a Shingles vaccination. We have spent a couple of hours trying to book CL's for our next trip. No joy at a couple in. D&G, both full, so quick change of direction and have now managed to book 4 in Cheshire and along The Marches, and waiting for a couple of more responses. We could be heading off as soon as Friday, all being well.

Tried twice to download posts from phone, nothing happened...is there some sort of social distancing going on...two metres and you're out?!

Apologies but will have to miss replies to posts, just had a nice two site break in sunny Devon. Will try again later...

Yes, OH was thinking we should head south too, we can go north at Easter next year.
We had DD and Callum with us in June last year, and stayed at the Club site in Ayr, so thinking they might like somewhere different this time, will discuss on Friday.
Not easy to keep a 2 year old entertained when it is raining and all his toys are back at home.
Suggestions welcome!

Quick trip into Town in car (after cleaning all the cobwebs)with OH shopping done no queuing at any store now back home
Just a Heads Up to all those who have flue vaccines, pharmacist who i see sometimes when walking Rosa told me today, that there is a good chance that a lot more people wil be looking to have the Jab this year and supplies may be short ,
If (like me) have it done at your local pharmacy ,then see if they are taking bookings for the October start
I have been to our lloyds and they have quite a few bookings already, now me as well

Dry day so far today.
Shopping all done this morning, car taken to garage to be checked for weird noise.
TV returned to Currys/PC World full refund now back on credit card.
New tv for MH now tested and working fine, will need to check out the satellite part of it once we have the dish fitted.
Ferry booked for April next year

MH almost packed ready for the off tomorrow, just got fresh food to go in once the fridge has had time to get cold.
I do believe its starting to feel like we are getting back to normal
JVB66, you're lucky you can go to a pharmacy for the jab, up here if you are over 65 you have to go to your GP's surgery. Goodness knows how they are going to manage it this year. Last year was bad enough trying to get an appointment for the normal Flu jab, if there is a jab for Covid by then it will be a nightmare trying to get in.

Got back yesterday from a sunny two site stay in Devon, Exebridge and Slapton. Sites busy but locally areas much quieter than usual. OH managed some fishing at Exebridge Lakes and we had a good river side meal at the Anchor Inn, everything disposable, no plates or glasses etc.
Lovely view of the blue sea in Start Bay from our Slapton pitch and also enjoyed pizzas made by the site managers one evening. Great to get away, I think others were thinking the same too.

Been a busy day for us today. Raining here most of the day so we headed in to York for the day, never saw York so quiet we had a walk around the minster and then had a lovely lunch at The White Swan Inn we hadn’t been there for a few years but it was excellent as usual and reasonably priced we were able to sit outside in the courtyard area. Back at the van now and it’s pouring the rain is bartering off the roof of the van leak we had last year in the awning seems to be fixed as it’s dry inside so that’s good news

Lovely photos Brue, glad you enjoyed your time away. The photo Start Bay brought back memories of a holiday we had there with our sons, they did some fishing off the beach and caught what our youngest son said were "angry crabs "
Did you like the Exebridge site? Have driven passed and thought it would be a nice site to try.0 -
Not quite the peaks but CL is Slack Lane, Mayfield near Ashbourne. The owners had built some rather smart lodges with private Saunas and hot tubs, more lucrative than running a CL.

Thanks, Helen, duly noted.

Do some potato printing with him! Grandad cuts letters into halved potatoes, dip in washable paint, print names, patterns, designs on paper. Good for learning letters as well........ 😁 Drawing round feet and hands with crayons is good fun for tots as well. Cut them out and lay a trail.......😁

Managed to clear my desk at work today, worked a few extra hours so I don't have to go in tomorrow. The caravan is packed ready for a few days away, we can now set off in the morning

Thanks for coming back Helen. Shame to lose another one.
Wet miserable day today. Had to go into Northwich today. Interesting to see the town and environs as I used to work there many years ago. Mrs WN happy enough as the Art shop still trading and fortunately for her, but not me, was open for business today.
This seemed to be in the 2 hour window when the rain ceased. Otherwise that was all she wrote.

We too had rain for much of the day, and my first 2 walks were carried out under brolly. In between we managed to get most of our stuff loaded into the van. Received a call just after 9:00 confirming our request for a pitch tomorrow, so we're off in the morning. Unfortunately then received an e-mail saying that our proposed 6th site was full, so this afternoon, out came the SD to search for an alternative. Success at the first attempt, so only one more site to book on the way home towards t g scene of next month. Rain eventually stopped and it was rather warm during our afternoon walk with the sun breaking through the clouds. Managed to clean the car this evening ready for the off.
