We once had to make a mad dash shopping trip to Skipton. We were well on our way to a camping (tent) trip and realised we had left all the bedding at home. Skipton market came to the rescue

Good to hear you're having a good time and that is a great pictures that sums (pun intended) it up perfectly.

It is a CS travel tradition that we have to buy an new umbrella every time we go away. For some reason we store them all at homeembarassed

We have now left Scarborough after a wonderful 16 nights at the clubs West Ayron site which as usual was great but very busy although we did have an excellent pitch that got the sun most of the day. Hadn’t been to Yorkshire for a couple of years so it was nice to go back also I got a good bit of cycling done but overall we were just happy to relax in the mornings and head out in the afternoon.

Now we are over in Lancashire where we have met up with sister and family who are here in their caravan. Easy journey this morning over the M62 but very windy at the higher points so had to take it easy. Got set up here after arriving just after one it’s warm here too but windy just had dinner cooked on the Cadac will probably pop over to sisters van tonight for a drink or 2 in their awning. We didn’t bother putting the awning up just the sun canopy. Here until next week not sure what plans we have yet hopefully just relaxing.

Goldie, lovely photographs. It’s so nice to see family history recreated many years later.
We’ve had a quiet weekend. I had to wear my face mask for the first time yesterday. I did some small bits of shopping for my mother in law in our local coop...... I’m not a fan of face masks. I totally understand and comply with the need for them but every time I breathed out, my glasses steamed up and I couldn’t see what I was looking at on the shelves!  I won’t be going shopping if I can help it. All our food is now being ordered online and delivered. I feel much safer that way.
Ive cooked a roast pork dinner and we’re now relaxing with a drink before our working week starts again tomorrow at 7am.

Gad you enjoyed getting away WN even if the CL wasn't so good (I suppose the cafe and garden were the main attraction for us so if they're closed it wouldn't be the same.)

We didn't dislike the CL Brue, merely feeling that they were charging far too much for what they are providing. If the pitches were flat, on hardstanding and had its own water point then I could understand the price. I'm not broke and have paid more than this for a CL pitch and felt it worthwhile. Coupled with a closure of all of the other aspects one would have felt that they would have tempered their price accordingly. Another stayer felt the same, having just come from a CL with those very same points I mentioned as being worthwhile and he paid £2 per night less.

The position was good for what we wanted to do but its not prime tourist area. If they stop taking motorhomes then they may struggle to keep it going. Nevertheless we still enjoyed the break.

Where are you thinking of for your next jaunt?

ADD46 - Mrs WN neatly folds a tissue and fits it on the bridge of her nose, then puts the mask on top. The tissue doesn't cover the nostrils but picks up the moisture so reducing fogging of the glasses significantly. Try it.smile

It does indeed sound a bit pricey for what was available Wherenext. I've just been looking at a basic no ehu  site in Devon, £7! But then found they weren't opening this year due to Covid. Thinks we'll stick with the southwest just now, we're hoping to go north in September. smile

We, just recently, decided to forego the France trip in September for various reasons so we are currently scrabbling around to fill in a break of about 3 weeks. Plus we are trying to sort out a cottage break for MiL, all the time working around health appointments.

Life is complicated but we could be in far worse situations so am rather guilty even feeling harassed.😷😊

We've are on a CL near Garstang for our third night. It does need a bit of TLC but it is all hardsanding, toilet (closed at present due to Covid) and a fair price at £12 pn. We had an easy but slow drive down on Friday due to the amount of traffic on the roads, with lots of caravans and M/Hs heading north. Yesterday we had a couple of walks around the local lanes and today went up onto Beacon Fell for another couple. It has rained but mostly through the night. We move on down to Cheshire tomorrow.

Belated congratulations to you and your OH, Goldie. Smashing photos too.

Sounds as if you had a good day out M . Hope that the rain holds off for the rest of your stay.

Good to hear that you are home safe and sound, WN.

TG, how we're you able to get a CL in D&G? We tried a couple and they were both full. Guess you were quicker off the mark than we were. Which CL are you on at Stranraer?

Don’t forget that nice cottage we used at Seat House WN. That had 3 bathrooms, one definitely a walk in wet room. Fabulous location, about 15 minutes from Skipton, but out in lovely countryside.

on another subject, need some help. Looking to upgrade a new phone, will be something like an iPhone SE. Can I simply put Sim from my old iphone into this new iphone? Likely to be same size sim? We have a sim only contract, so want to use existing Sim in a new phone. Excuse my techs dimness if this is a very obvious🤪

Might you not get a better deal going onto a monthly contract if your current SIM is pay monthly? Most recent phones seem to use the micro SIM cards. A search online would establish what size SIM card the new phone takes. When I changed to my current phone just over a year ago I seem to recall that Virgin sent me a new SIM not quite sure why unless there is some indentifier on the data card but it was on a contract? If you are going to order a stand alone phone you could always wait until it arrives and try the old card in the new phone to see if it works? I have always had Android phones so not so well up on iPhones.

NTH, we only managed to get 2 nights here. We are @ Green Loch House, if you've not been might be worth putting it on your list 😉 The photos of the site are pretty accurate, pitches nice and big the whole site is very well kept.

The sunset tonight was stunning, from about 3pm we had lovely sunshine so got the bikes out and did about 6 miles on the quiet country roads.

Seemingly it's only 3mls to Stranraer.

Thanks DK. It’s a nano sim, so no problem swopping it to another more recent iPhone. I should have realised to be honest.

We have always had Virgin contracts, including getting a phone from them. However, earlier this year I negotiated a Sim package as part of our Virgin Media Broadband/landline deal. It’s a tiny amount, something like £2 per month for unlimited calls, unlimited texts and 2G of data, which is more than enough for my OH, as we rarely use our phone data unless we tether iPads. So, it’s a whole lot cheaper than the usual pay monthly contract. But his iPhone is now vintage, he uses lots of Apps and it’s just not functioning as it should. So, buying a phone cash, probably an iPhone SE will be cheaper than getting one on a contract from Virgin, and then he just uses the existing SIM at £2 per month, until that contract expires. We are just weighing up the options at the moment. He’s expecting an ancient iPhone 5 to run his life for him at the speed of light! All good fun.....🙄😂

TDA, do you mean the new iPhone SE 2020? I hope so because the original SE does not cope well with ios13 and won't be supported for much longer. The original  was very close to iphone 6s whereas the 2020 version is pretty much iphone 8.

My original SE performed so poorly on ios13 that I swapped it for a Android phone which is definitely more phone for your money.

Question for TDA Some years ago when we were staying on a site in Hinderwell you recommended a lovely garden centre in that area.  It is a long way off but we are off to that area again next July, staying in a cottage in Staithes this time with our family from NI.  I know that our DIL would love that garden centre so please could you let me have the name and details again. I will keep a note of it this time.laughing

Thanks for this. We are still looking at what’s out there. Good to get feedback though. We shall have to be careful. Bit of a minefield, we like Apple products, mainly because they are so easy to use, but they are a crafty company. Sister’s iPhone 4 is still chugging away nicely somehow or other😂

I had forgotten the small SIM  was called "nano"

Both my sons seem to be devotees of Apple products but I have never been convinced. I can understand the connectivity between products but that just ties you in to even more expensive products!  I am still a committed Windows user mainly because I prefer a proper screen and keyboard, especially for working with my website. I also find the Android phone system suits me, on my third one now. The main issue I have had with phones in the past is that of available memory which limits the number of apps you can have. Hopefully I have overcome that for a while with my Samsung A50?

Sounds like our son too! In fact OH was about to have an apple cast off as lockdown struck! We might have found out the mystery qualities but we've always used Android. Not keen on the control Apple exerts on users. Best to go for what suits your needs with all these things but updated devices do improve things generally. smile

Millie, I think it might be The River Garden, Perry’s Nursery at Ruswarp. Nice cafe, riverside sitting out area, quality reasonable priced plants. Garden is always beautiful, you can sit and watch river and steam trains, even go for a row if you fancy it. I will post a link at bottom.

Another nice place is Ryedale Folk Museum. A lot to see, lots outdoors as well. In Hutton le Hole, a pretty moorland village with a good foodie pub, some nice little shops and a craft area.

Near Pickering is Rogers Nursery. Great for roses and other plants. Don’t think they have an eatery though.

    Thanks for reminding me Ttda.

I asked MiL where and what she wanted to do. She asked if we could go back to where we spent a week in February so I found a week at the beginning of October. There was quite a bit we didn't get around to and I think she would quite like to go back to RHS Harlow Carr, if only to see the dishy Doctor.laughing I'll file Seat House to next year.

After sorting that lot out I managed to get a couple of sites booked for the first 2 weeks of September. Leaving the other 10 days or so fluid.

Picked up a click and collect from Tesco tonight. Popped into the shop for some fresh stuff. Only about 10% had face masks on. We were in and out very quickly. Wish Wales would follow same route as the rest.

Thank you TDA. Yes I remember now it was Perry's that we went to. A really lovely nursery. I will now make a note and put it in a safe place. 😁 Thank you so much for the reminder. We have been to Ryedale Folk Museum and agree with you that it is a really good day out. Would, like you really recommend it.

Somewhere else you might enjoy, if you haven’t already been, is Helmsley Walled Garden. It back open now, with tickets in advance. I was really impressed when I went round, and it nestles right underneath Helmsley Castle, so a lovely day out.

You do gradually get used to it although agree not the most comfortable thing to have to wear. We have been wearing masks for as long as we have been back out in public, we didn't wait for it to become mandatory. I suspect it will be the way of our world for at least the next six months. And no escape when you go abroadwink

I think the spectacles thing is what is irritating most folks, I overheard a couple of conversations today about this very thing. Most are advocating putting a small folded piece of tissue just over bridge of nose that seems to help. Good to see everyone in small supermarket I popped into was wearing a mask. The masks we bought seem to be doing a good job, and fit well. Wash great as well.

It's what Mrs WN and MiL do when wearing a mask, Ttda. Shame that Wales lagging behind making them compulsory in shops.

A new Whirlygig arrived when we were away as old one giving up the ghost so I've just finished hammering the post in. The staging post is quite deep on this Brabantia. MiL is tiddily, as in small not drunk (although I reserve the right to amend that), so the new dryer is height adjustable. The old one had a distinct lean as she often reached up to the wire and dragged it down to her level.

    Enough excitement for one day.
