What are you all up to

We have got a couple of face shields brue that SIL gave us. I find them a bit difficult to put on a do up. I will practice some more. We all decided yesterday that we thought they would be a better option when on the Welcome desk so I will take one with me as well as my home made cloth mask and see which suits best. I loved your photos of your trip away. Such a lovely part of the country.

CONGRATULATIONS < GOLDIE & THE PRESIDENT !!

And I hope somebody else is doing all the catering / serving & ensuring your recently dusted crystal glasses are regularly filled and all then washed & dried and put away for you

Thanks......the news was a lovely surprise......and a bit sooner than we had expected. They will have their work cut out with 2 little ones under the age of 3!
Francis......I think you go quite often to The Ranch at Maybole, do you know what they charge for the use of the pool? Website only says "small charge" as far as I can see.
Are the touring pitches all serviced?
Are they a long way from the pool etc?
Is the site quite exposed to the wind?Thinking of taking DD and Callum there for a few days in Mid September, so maybe, just maybe, the pool might be open again by then.

Congratulations Goldie.
I wondered if that's what the catering was for. Celebrate in style 🍾🍻. Did you get a telegram for 50? I seem to recall when looking but it's 60 years now? I'm sure you'll make that one too.
What a beautiful couple and photo.

MillieH,
A little tip from the staff at my local McColls corner shop.
take a piece of tissue paper folded twice -- place it along the inside of the top of the masks ( if they are of the common standard Blue sort ) I've used a paper staple one at each end to hold 'em in place. You might find that will reduce the misting up of specs even if it cannot totally eradicate it !!

That's not how it works. My husband has blown up balloons and strung bunting along the beams, but food is my department. He will be carving a huge joint of ham later (and he cleaned out the bowl I whipped cream for meringues in). It's a quiet day, but we've spoken to our "children" in Leicester and Derbyshire, and a niece stood on the doorstep to wish us well.
Only washing up and table setting to do now, then feet up for an hour or so.

Best wishes to the handsome couple. Enjoy the evening.
Sat here in the van looking at the top end of the CL where a young Buzzard has sat on the ground for the last half an hour! Thinking he is waiting for inspiration or guidance. Doesn't look injured or upset in any way and one of the parents flew over 10 minutes ago.
Nice day today. Good walk in the dry despite the forecast. Off home tomorrow. More planning to do.😀

Yes you are correct we use the Ranch as one of our local weekends sites so get down there quite often have been going for the past 15 years or so. It’s a lovely site with great owners the pool fee isn’t much I can’t remember exactly but think it was in the region of £5 per session they also have a small gym area and a good kids play area that would be suitable for a little one. There are pitches on what they call the bottom field but these can be quite exposed to the wind coming up the valley and are quite a bit away from the toilet block so my advice would be to take one of the pitches on the long drive leading to the bottoms field these are all close to the toilet block and each has a water tap and waste point the are large pitches but more long rather than wide so easier to park the car in front of the caravan but you would have room for an awning no problem. Overall a great site and in my opinion better than Aye Craigie if you have small children with you as the play area is better and there is a large field for games etc as well as the pool. We use Craigie when on our own and wanting quiet but if meeting family such as the grandkids or my sister and family we tend to use the Ranch so the Childers can enjoy it too.
Hope this helps

Arrived in Grassington 3pm after a fairly uneventful journey, even the M6 was flowing freely. Nice welcome from the owners who live next door and, as we are the first guests since lockdown we didn't have to wait till 5pm to get in so that was an unexpected bonus. Managed to get a walk down into the village (well, apparently Grassington calls itself a town) which seems very busy. Dogs, as usual, were the star attraction!
Just about to settle down with a nice glass of the red stuff and try to decide which walk to do tomorrow.

Ah, Moulesy, glad you've posted.
We, namely I, are/am looking for a cottage to hire in that area that will be suitable for an elderly person and you seem to have been heaven sent to let me know if the establishment you are staying in fits the bill.😙
MiL needs a walk in shower and adores that area. So how is the cottage? Do you need to get your leg over or is it a walk in? Careful with your answer!
ps Enjoy the week.😀

Are you suggesting M is an elderly person? 😂😂😂

Oi! I may be "late middle age" but I've still got all my own teeth and what's left of my hair!

The cottage is very cosy, a short walk away from the main square - 2 bedrooms but the stairs are quite steep, the shower is walk in though so relatively little need for getting my leg over there (or anywhere else knowing my luck!
)There seem to be loads of holiday cottages in the village though.

Belated comgratulations Mr and Mrs Goldie. I hope you had a lovely day.

Thank you for your good wishes. It's only the second Golden Wedding at Strickley in recentish years. In 1914 my husband's Great Grandparents celebrated 50 years with a photo on the steps, with some of their family (they had 11 children and 35 grandchildren). We tried to recreate it with our small family (two branches are socially distanced in the Midlands) and an uncooperative dog.

How lovely Goldie. Hope you had a nice day, and can perhaps have a larger gathering when circumstances permit. I love the photos, nice to carry on the tradition. We have one or two places we tend to recreate photos from on our honeymoon. The dog/s tend to change down the years, and the hairstyles😂

Thanks! They are already making a list of things to be done before the arrival!
They plan to make the current unused bedroom into a new nursery, Callum will stay in his present room, so want to re fit the en suite with shower over a bath, it is the oldest bathroom so needs done up soon anyway.
They will get someone in to do that, but the bedroom has far too many wardrobes in it so it will be my job to dismantle several and relocate the rest, no doubt paint as well, and the carpet is to go in favour of laminate. There was also a mention of the ceiling being altered (it has been lowered in a strange way) so that will have to be investigated first.
The bathroom should be done first, so they will need to start getting it all organised. I can foresee much upheaval, and plenty for me to do!
However, if DD takes a year off work, we will not be required so much, so we should be able to get away whenever we wish, which will be good.

Arrived at the CL near Stranraer and all set up. What a beautiful setting.
We've had 2nights in Moffat, lots of overnight rain but ok during the days. Took a drive out yesterday to the Grey Mare waterfall, then onto Lady Marys loch where we had lunch. Then onto Selkirk and Peebles and back to Moffat. The scenery was stunning going over the hills and through the glens. Sun came out for some of it but sometimes you couldn't see the tops because of the mist. Still great no matter.
Now sat on the front pitch looking out over another loch, life doesn't get any better

Glad you enjoyed your trip WN.

We've had a fine first day in Grassington after some early drizzle cleared. Walked up the Dales Way towards Kettlewell and then back along the River Wharfe which is still quite low at the moment. For those who know the area, the picture is where the river narrows to form a series of rapids at Gaistrill's Strid - didn't quite manage to get everyone posing though - Ralph had his attention on some marauding sheep!

Have just made a mad dash to Mountain Warehouse in Skipton because "we" suddenly realised that "we" had forgotten to bring umbrellas and tomorrow is going to be wet, wet, wet!
(Obviously, although Mrs M had the job of packing the car, in some strange way it turned out to be Mr M's fault that we'd forgotten them - how does that work, as if I need to ask!)

Love the area around St Mary's Loch TG, rarely gets busy. Hope you enjoy the next place.

Trying to think of somewhere local for another short break, quite fancied the small NT site at Lansallos but they're busy till September.
Ooh Moulesy, fancy forgetting the umbrellas...I forgot all the coats on one very wet occasion, so now we have spares stuffed everywhere including umbrellas.

Gad you enjoyed getting away WN even if the CL wasn't so good (I suppose the cafe and garden were the main attraction for us so if they're closed it wouldn't be the same.)
