What are you all up to

Been overpowering in terms of warmth here today. Our little weather station showed 38.8c in garden, and very humid with it. Tremendous downpour and thunderstorm has eased things now. So luckily I escaped the watering😁

I envy you living so near the sea comyras. It has been exceedingly hot here. We had some friends here for coffee in the garden this morning and we all enjoyed sitting in the deep shade under our tree at the bottom of our garden. I had to walk up to our vets this afternoon to fetch a prescription for our cat and it felt like I was being blasted under a hot hair dryer. I do feel for you at the hairdressers brue. I hope you liked your haircut. Lots of storm clouds here but no rain so far.

Warmed up here around 11am, but only reached a modest 24C. Thunder and heavy rain late afternoon.
Down at Guide Hall today, new deck there looks great. Measured up for anti slip strips, now ordered, also waterproof adhesive, so that will keep me busy in about a weeks time. Also measured up for handrail for steps down to car park, so OH will need to see what she can find now.
OH had a meeting with some of the committee to discuss a timetable for opening the building......lot of red tape to negotiate, and paperwork to organise.
Tomorrow I have been engaged to assist a damsel in distress.....SiL's sister has a new bed, which she has assembled herself, and it is wobbly.
Callum returns to nursery on Monday, which hopefully will go well. We have been engaged to look after him on Wednesday afternoon as Daddy is off out with friends and Mummy has to work.

That's kind of you TDA, after the initial inspection and outside clean up (removing travel stickers etc) we had a drama with the dog (going to vets just now, coughing and making choking sounds most of the night...) I think he spotted a couple of bolt holes, further inspection needed!

Good luck with the dog Brue.
Got a bit wet this morning on our walk but nothing too serious. Back home to catch up with a lot of paperwork and trying to book a CL in a weeks time. One bonus was an unexpected Christmas pressie for Mrs.WN. Those with an excellent memory may recall she was unable to find a special nib for her pens that we bought and put to one side last Yuletide. Looked everywhere and gave up.

Found in my camera basket with my cleaners and battery charger etc. Oops. Up side is she now has an unused 7 month old present. She didn't want it wrapping. Couldn't trust me I suppose.Ordered a new freezer from John Lewis, due in a fortnight.

Ah, that was a bit of serendipity WN! 🍀
Dog OK, thorough check. OH calls her our Chew-wawa...and I think this was the cause of the latest incident. 🐕
Nice and dry here, have been in the garden, now some housework to do. Dog sleeping!

Dry day but no sun, warm enough to work outdoors so the garden got the full works. Grass cut edges done and all the borders and beds weeded and the soil turned over.
Only 1 bush needed a tidy up so got of light with that. The rose bush that I dug up to make room for the caravan to go in the drive has survived
was worried about it as it was in full flower when we moved it. I pruned it back to give it a chance and its worked. All green now and looks like we might get a few flowers to.Late afternoon we did a skip run with the trailer, will need another one tomorrow as OH has started on the big hedges.
OH was busy with the MH this morning, water all drained down and puriclean put into the water system, will flush it all out tomorrow. Should have done this before now but we were just keen to get away and test it out. We never drink water from the taps.

Yesterday was our last full day in the cottage - and what a scorcher it was - so hot that it must have melted the wifi cables because we had no signal in the evening!

We spent the day in our favourite of all the Dales, Wensleydale. The drive over via Yockenthwaite and Oughtershaw is spectacularly beautiful the whole way, but very hard work for the group of (real) cyclists we passed on the way!

We walked from Hawes, up the fell side and down to the Green Dragon at Hardraw and back along the river bank. In the old days you could walk up to the waterfall (Hardraw Force) free of charge, then the pub started charging 20p a head - not sure what it is now, but we've been up and behind it many times so didn't bother this time. Hawes always seems to be bustling and noisy so we didn't spend long in the town itself. Club site must be busy, though, judging by the stream of caravans we saw arriving at ... er ...12:45!

Then in the afternoon we headed for Askrigg - where much of the James Herriot series was filmed. Another scenic walk, including, deep in the woods, the little know Mill Ghyll waterfall.
Still extremely warm in the evening and dry - until I was walking back from the fish & chips shop when it decided it had enough of being dry and produced the sort of downpour only Yorkshire can produce!

Lovely photos moulesy. OH regards that area as his 'home' as lived in and around the area for most of his boyhood. Swaledale is his favourite though. We walked to The Green Dragon many times in the past - such happy memories. We visited the falls one New year with youngest son when it was so cold there were icicles everywhere..
Glad to hear that your little dog is OK brue. It is always a worry when they are not well. We are having to keep a close eye on our cat as his thyroid level is now very high and he has been put on the highest dose of medication possible. Back to the vets in 2 months for another test unless there is any cause for concern in the meantime. He is 18 now so we are having to face the inevitable sadly. He seems quite perky in himself though.

Arrived in our cottage in Ambleside, well an old bobbin mill, and settled in. Booked a self drive boat for tomorrow. The view from our window.

We love Swaledale too (it's actually pretty hard to choose a favourite I think.) We had planned to drive over Buttertubs Pass to get there - sadly the weather on Thursday was murky and damp so we stayed in Grassington, walking in the afternoon from Threshfield up on to the bridleway called Mastiles Lane - what an unremittingly hard uphill slog that was, though worth it for the 360° panorama from the summit!

I can envisage quite a few visits to the toilet during the night.

Self drive boat? Do you mean a Canoe? Enjoy it anyway.
Managed to book something away from next Thursday but just for the 4 nights, then home for the rest of August before hopefully a longer break in September.

Glad to hear that your dog is fine, brue. Always a worrying time when they start coughing.
Lovely photos, M. Good to hear that you've had good time up in the Dales.
We had a short drive over to our latest CL, near Jodrell Bank. We had light drizzle as we were setting up and had a short downpour after lunch, but managed a couple of walks around the farm's tracks without getting wet.
BTW has anyone had notification from the TV Licensing authority about the new charges for the over 75s?

No nth no notification yet. Apparently they are going to be sending out the letters during August. I will post on here when we get our letter.

We hired a self drive boat on the Broads many years ago, got caught up in a regatta and discovered 5mph couldn't get you out of trouble!

Hope your cat keeps well Millie, at least you are doing your best.
Took the dog out for a walk this morning OH warned me about the electric fence round the field, a low step over by the entrance gate, unfortunately a high step over by the exit trying to carry the dog at the same time. It felt like a real life version of the wire and buzzer game! At least it keeps the sheep in the right place. 🐏🐑

Understand what you mean only tooooo well Brue !!
Yonks ago we used to play very occasionally against a footy team on the Country Estate near Bridgemere, where the farm animals were kept away from the pitch after it had been mown & marked out. Looked fine on arrival, performed it's task ok during the match, but when 22 plus sweaty footballers trudged off after 90 minutes the occasional squeak could be heard, and some pairs of eyes were seen to be rotating like Daffy Ducks on a bad day !!

Just spent the morning cleaning the caravan and getting it ready to go on Wednesday. We weren't due to go away again until the 18th of this month, but last evening, we were thinking that seems ages to wait - so we rang a CS we know, near Thornton Le Dale - they had vacancies - so we're off.
This will be the third trip since we were allowed out on 4th July
!!Might as well make the most of it whilst we can. Like others, I have a 'orrible feeling we're going to get locked up again, soon.

Noooooo, we are away again on Tuesday for 3 nights. Off to Yorkshire to see our youngest and his family, haven't seen them since last November. Also getting a dish fitted to the MH while we are there and collecting a set of screen covers from Taylor made.
We are then due to set off at the beginning of September for France. Here's hoping it will happen.
Did our food shopping this morning, usually nice and quiet on a Sunday but it was busy in Aldi today. Then onto the Range for a few bits and pieces, managed to get some 'Fat squares' so can make a few more masks for the Gkids

Back home and shopping all away I decided to '.Perm' my hair, all now done and its looking good. Will go for a light trim at the hairdresser once we return from this next trip.
Today we have a nice warmish dry day and even periods of sun, not what was forecast but I'm happy they are once again wrong.

Son and family are returning from 2 weeks on Islay this evening, so may come in past to pick up the new cushion covers we have made for our grand-daughter's new bedroom. Will be nice to see them, though it would only be for a few minutes as it will be late on.
Maybe we can offload a couple of cucumbers too! We have 24 coming along, so need to distribute them.
Otherwise I have drawn up the shape of the new handrail at the Guide Hall to e mail for a quote, and now have to finish some shredding in the garden. Nice day here, so best get on with it.

Decided to get stuck into the garden before any sun came out today. Overcast first thing this morning. Brown bins that were emptied on Friday are now full and I have 3 old black bins to take to the tip tomorrow together with our old whirligig.
How can you be wrong when you are right?
Whilst I was finishing mowing the front lawn Mrs WN was searching for the cycling maps for Wales. I came in to a "Where have you put them?". "In that folder my dearest one' I gently replied. "But that is so organised! I wasn't expecting that so didn't even consider looking in a folder".
I've promised her that I will revert to type.3 -
That’s us just home after a wonderful 3 and a half weeks away in the van. Spent 2 and a half weeks at West Ayton site In Scarborough great time decent weather and we just relaxed visiting a lot of outside places and a few museums such as Eden Camp. I done a lot of cycling and we generally just chilled visiting a few country pubs etc. Last week was spent at Blackpool South Club site a completely hectic but enjoyable week meeting up with my sister and her family so we visited amusements piers etc but great all the same. Home today after an easy 4 hour tow home came back to a wonderful surprise youngest son has been in while we were gone and decorate the hall way and the kitchen even got an new carpet and flooring unbelievable SWMBO is so happy and it saves me a job great work. Home for 4 days then away at the weekend to one of our local haunts.

A great day. After the morning rain a hot sunny afternoon and a very restful self drive electric boat on Windermere. Then a pleasant wander around Ambleside. Not as busy as normal.
The photo is of the Fairfield horseshoe, tomorrow's adventure.

Cheers millie, I'll keep my eyes open for your post. I guess ours will be lying there in the hall when we eventually get home. They'll just have to wait for the payment.

We have bitten the bullet today and agreed to buy a new (to us)car. Our Nissan bought new 13 years ago is getting old and tired although we shall be sorry to see it go as it has done us very well. We are getting a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander with only 4,500 miles on the clock. We decided on a diesel as OH prefers it for towiing. One of these days we might exchange my little old car for a small hybrid but not just yet now! We pick it up on Friday. Tow bar fitting arranged for the following Tuesday.

Sounds like a bargain, millie. Hope that it meets your expectations.
The weather was better than forecast today. We walked from the site along lanes and hideaways as far as Brereton Country Park and back. While having what we hoped to be a peaceful picnic lunch at the CO there were a small group of people with about 4 dogs, two of which were barking almost continually the whole time we were there. Why do the owners not put a halt to them doing that I wonder? The walk took us through the village of Swettenham, at the end of a dead end road, and the pub there was doing a roaring trade, so I guess must serve good meals.

Visited the village pub for lunch today for the first time since lockdown started (thank you, Mr Sunak!
). Very, very quiet, we were the only ones in a room which normally seats 20! The "eat out to help out" scheme should encourage a bit more trade for which they are desperate, but, and you really wouldn't believe this, they are not listed on the government website because the owner has two pubs and his business address is at the other one and he's only allowed one on the listing. Can't quite work out the logic in that!Anyway, it made a nice change, and they were pleased to see us again (though more pleased to see the dogs I think!

A fantastic day over the Fairfield horseshoe. Now queing for fish and chips.
