We arrived home this morning from a lovely few days away. It was just what we needed. Enjoyed lots of walks and a picnic with our youngest son and his girlfriend in Macclesfield Forest, Only after we had walked to Shutlingsloe .

Plenty of space on the CL and as the mobile signal was very patchy and wifi almost non existent it was very peaceful winksmile We enjoyed our first post lockdown drink in a village pub garden too.

Full day in garden for me today, hedge cutting (by hand😱), ground clearing and then laying membrane and chippings. Finished off with some weeding, and I am now cream crackered. I think I am going to be stiff in morning.

I did mutter words to the effect we had paid by CC, also its under 6 mths old I thought the sale of goods act  etc etc.

As it is they only have a Sony and a JVC in a 40" we don't want another Sony and the JVC you have to have an Amazon account for it, which we don't want. Trying to get them to understand that where the TV sits we can't get anything bigger than a 40"

Enjoy your trip next week, Berberis are are bu**ers to cut back, long sleeves and thick gloves are the order for that. I've got 4 of them in my garden I take them in turn each year to get a good cut back.

We are off to Cruden Bay for 3 days then around the Moray coast for 3 days.

Good luck with Currys PC World! On 8th July I ordered an electric BBQ from them which was supposed to have arrived by 14th July. Apart from the original confirmation I have received no tracking information from them. When I used their online system it doesn't recognise the order number. I then tried to phone someone but you just go round in circles. No way you can contact them by email! Yesterday I received an email asking if I would rate their service, that is going to be an interesting form to fill in!!!

Sorry to hear about your Sony TV. We have a 43 inch Bravia and it's been brilliant. It's the second LED Sony we have had and I am yet to find an alternative that gives such high definition (without going for 4K) Hope you get it sorted. Have you thought of going to JL to have a look at their range?

It was to deal with Curry’s face to face that had us do our one and only venture into our retail park last week. Some expensive Skull Candy WiFi headphones I had bought my OH for Xmas simply fell apart, so off we trotted with receipt and original packaging. Store wasn’t busy, well organised inside, but we were fourth in queue, everyone patiently waiting. Quite enlightening watching and listening how Currys deal with anything returned. (Couple of TVs, our headphones and some gadget I didn’t recognise) The opening gambit was always “receipt, original packaging, did you take out our additional cover?” Why would anyone, when you get a year anyway? Plenty of discussion going on every customer, and extreme reluctance to accept anything back. Staff playing hardball. Always the customers fault. Polite and informed hardball back is the way we went. We were happy to put proffered refund to another (more expensive) set of headphones this time.

Appliances, John Lewis online if we can find it. If it’s something required urgent, (Washer, freezer, fridge?) we have used AO (Appliances Online) a few times, and find them prompt, polite and helpful. Usually a good price as well.

Also been happiest with JL online. Plus there has often been an extended warranty thrown in. We could have bought our new TV in January from Argos for exactly the same price but JL threw in a 5 year warranty. Argos wanted £80. Unfortunately given their  current difficulties, I suspect they may be a thing of the past.

Hoping to get a walk in today, although still some very heavy clouds about.☹️

Slightly worried yesterday, received an email from Hermes, they were delivering a Whistl parcel today. All looked genuine, but we had not ordered anything. Checked credit card and nothing we couldn't account for, so waited to see if anything arrived. It just arrived, some seeds we had ordered through Dobbies, from Thomson and Morgan 112 days ago, they were dispatched on the 7th July. We received nothing to say they were on there way and in fact received a refund from Dobbies 3 weeks ago after much emailing. Ahh well, just relieved no one is using our details to order things.😀

Miserable day today. Mizzle since we got up. Plenty of paperwork and a few small jobs that needed doing in the house has kept us busy until lunchtime.

We've decided that the small freezer that has served us so well through the lockdown needs to be bigger, just in case, so will be appliance hunting soon.

Nellie, At least you get to attend the funeral today. Hope all goes as well as can be expected.

Just been catching up. Hope you have been able to see the online farewell Nellie.

Wherenext, hope you enjoy the CL, we had two nights there, a local concert in Delamere Forest meant the CL was busy that weekend but we were glad we sampled a stay.

Off on our Devon trip soon, packing up slowly, organising garden watering etc. Think it will be CLs next time as the sites look a bit busy. Not going further afield till September and then up to the NE, see how things go but just now it will be good to be looking at some different scenery...the maize is blocking our views here! smile

Hope all goes well today, Nellie, for the most recent funeral in my family I told the world I could be found / seen by my camper in the crem car park, so as to leave room inside for others, but it is never pleasant alas.

Strange how things are working at present -- I put a prescription request in on line Sunday evening expecting the usual six or seven day wait, but the phone call came before lunch today surprised. When I got there some ten minutes later 2 things were obvious : I was the only customer they had, and I was also the only bod around wearing a mask  innocent not that I'm boasting but I have decided to start wearing one in order to get into the routine.  Did not like it tho' it was too small to cover the beard and it causes my glasses to steam up, so if we are still in this situation come winter I expect to be walking round without the specs but carrying a dgb hand lens !!

We have just been for a Covid test, voluntary. Town is trying to be pro active, inviting anyone who wants to get a test to get along to a couple of extra testing stations set up. Drive through, run by Army, all very well organised. We have no symptoms, aren’t doing anything risky, so not worried. Couple of days hopefully for results. Not many there though, and perhaps not the demographic they would hope for.

Dull and miserable here, and after yesterday, I need a break from gardening, so I am off up into attic to look through some “treasures” and see if anything can be sold, thrown out or recycled into something new! Had to send Oh up first to relocate the six cycles up there🤷‍♀️

We have hundreds of EH, NT, Cadw, Historic Scotland, etc......guides up there. Some very old stuff back when it used to be all one under Historic Monuments Commission. Time to get rid, somehow......

Having been "on the road" for a week, I'm now catching up. Two things have cropped up with the moho which went in for an an overdue tab check a couple of days before we came away. When it went in everything was working. Since coming away we find one of the spark igniter rings doesn't and the microwave lights up, goes round but does nothing!. As Mark Twain observed "Life is one darn thing after another"

Bit of a damp rainy day here in Yorkshire first grey day since we got here. We got up early and went to the York Air Museum at Ellington which was great we have been before but always enjoy visiting when we are in the area we spent most of the day there. On the way back to the van we decided to have dinner in the pub near the side booked on Facebook and showed up at the allotted time and had a lovely meal the new procedure seems to work well lovely meal and a couple of pints very nice hopefully we will get back in before we move on to our next site. Nothing much planned tonight just sit out in the awning with a few drinks listening to the rain

Thanks all. The service, at the crematorium, was short with only a single eulogy, written by Vi's God-Daughter and read by the Minister. All that was shown on the screen was the front row of seats and immediate family, the minister and the coffin area. Glad that we were able to be there in essence though. I'm now the eldest living member of the family line, that I know of.

Has been a dull dreary sort of day here with low clouds on all the surrounding hills.

Hope that your test come back negative, tda, and that you found some interesting things up in the attic that you never even remembered having.

Good to hear that your trip went well, Helen.

To all that are away and are heading out soon have a grand time and that the weather stays fine for you, we may be following in your footsteps shortly, all being well.

JVB and ABM I too decided to wear a mask tonight for our weekly shop, and found that although my glasses did mist up / at first they soon cleared and it wasn't too much of an inconvenience. I even got complimented on the mask's design by a lady on the tills at Tesco, although credit must go to OH who chose the fabric and made the mask.

Nellie & JVB,  The masks I got were from WELL PHARMACY on line but they appear to be the same as those they sell in their shops i.e. the one I get my medications from. Don't know how you felt about wearing yours but mine were distinctly too shallow 'cos they don't adequately cover the chin due to the presence of my beard yellsealed.  Anybody coming up with deeper versions please tell Brian, 'cos he will use those already bought but will be on the look-out for more efficient ones  wink

Just noticed that Nell has masks made by OH to their own design but that's way outside my talent pool these days embarassed I could cut etc to fit but sewing is not my bucket now --  I'd prefer epoxy resin or waterproof wood glue !! Not really desirable to get that sort of stuff on my work surface which, in truth, is normally the ironing board for the more delicate items surprised

P.S. / Edit : ~~  I have to say that this site is going along at a decent pace this morning, most welcome improvement !!smile

Wearing a mask can be an expensive business!!! I was at the pharmacy wearing a mask and as I came out the door and started to remove the mask my glasses fell off and got scratched on both lenses when they fell onto the step!!! I pick up the new glasses next week!!

I do wonder if there is a lot of profiteering going on in selling masks. I noticed in Boots the other day a box of 50 for £30!!! You can get the same quantity online at a third of the price and as far as I can see they look the same?

I have now dug out (ex BR) some 3m face masks that are of a design that the elastic straps go round the head instead of behind the ears ,they are far better when wearing glasses and hearing aids as it can be kept on round the neck but clear of the face when not required by just using the lower strapwink

Profiteering indeed. Simplest and easiest thing is a Buff, however it will need lining each time it is worn and washed frequently. Or a cotton bandana, again lined and washable.

Get those old cowboy films out ABM!

I was worried about doing that DK, plus them misting up. I was thinking about not wearing my glasses. Since my cataract opp, one eye is long sited, so I can function without them, except to be legal for driving. However, I assume even if only minimal, they do afford some additional protection from the little blighters flying about in the air.

Those masks do seem expensive. I bought some back in May they were £27 for 50. Just looked on Amazon and similar are now half to a third the price. You do have to watch delivery though, some are quoting September.

Yorkshire is having a good old chuckle today.....

Its been suggested that during the refurbishment of Houses of Parliament, the House of Lords could move up to York.

One of York’s most famous sons was a certain Guido Fawkes..........🤣

apparently if you wash your specs in washing up liquid it stops them from steaming up, not sure what effect washing up liquid will have on the lens, but used it for years before Spec savers gave me a bottle of cleaning fluid free and did not have any problems.

Not yet dropped my specs, but it is a real danger

‘’Taint hygienic, but scuba divers and swimmers usually add a little saliva to the inside of their eye masks, goggles. Not so bad if it’s your own, of course.

Serious suggestion..........don’t loop the elastics around your ears. Fashion something that goes around the back of your head instead, you are less likely to drag glasses off then. It can be hidden under hair if long enough. If not, it doesn’t really matter. It takes any risk of rubbing behind ears away as well.

DK, hope the glasses get fixed pdq, not what you need at the moment.

Edit, you could consider a loop for glasses as well, so if they do come off, they don’t drop far. Risk of tangling though, needs care.

Unfortunately nothing can be done with the old lens as polishing them would alter the prescription. Fortunately I was due new glasses and had my eye test in early March but decided to leave selecting new ones. I suppose it could have been a lucky decision as it could have been the new ones that fell off!!! So the £300 wasn't completely unexpected expense!

I used to wear peeper keepers but since having varifocals I have kept my glasses on all the time. After the "accident" I did buy a couple which I might wear with the new ones.

    There’s usually a silver lining😁

I took to wearing a string on glasses in car, as with sunglasses you can be a bit off and on, and it’s easier than fumbling around when driving solo.

I put a mask on and then make sure it's behind the bottom edge of my glasses, helps with the misting problem. My most comfortable mask is the simple men's hanky and PO elastic bands, the hanky is nice and soft. I've got a selection but some are horrible, OH decided to try different ones in his quest for the perfect mask. wink

Arrived at site in Devon, had to give card number etc verbally from behind a screened doorway. Coloured bands with pitch number and hooks in place for facilities.

Children using the water  taps so will need to be vigilant but all OK generally nice to be away. Seemed like a major effort this time round!

Off for a walk now. See you all later! 🐿

You're in a particularly chirpy mood today, TtDA  smile You'll be advising me to carry a sawn off shot gun next you scamp wink !!

Right now I'm actually wearing the specs that normally reside in the movan's glove box --  got them out to give them their annual clean and have taken to wearing them so the newer versions will be retired to their cases next time I go for a drive.

    SteveL,

when was your cataract op please ?? Mine were done just after the turn of the century but both eyes had the same 'distance' treatment so I have better long distance vision than I've ever had. Alas that means I need a white stick to find the orange slice I'm about to eat, so it's bifocals for me sad to say cool

It was in May 2018 ABM. Just the one done, other eye OK but short sighted. The eye doctor did say I might have to have the other done as some folk can't cope with one of each after so many years. I seem to manage OK, it just takes a while to adjust if I put my glasses on part way through the day.
